  • Are you using Hot Cues to the fullest in your DJ software? Hot Cues and cue points can be used in several ways to help improve the flow of your DJ set and add creativity. By acting as a marker inside of a track, Hot Cues allow you to easily jump to a certain part, such as the drop or chorus.
In the video above, our good friend DJ Hapa, a.k.a. “The DJ Coach,” shows us his Hot Cue strategies and essentials. Watch now to learn how to create your own color-coding system with cue points, use the quantize function, set loops, and more so you can effortlessly jump around a track.

I think I followed an earlier video of Hapa's to set up cues according to length. I do by phrases though I also colour the cues by vocal or instrumental (or able to have vocals over). So for instrumental sections green is 4 phrases, aqua is 2 phrases, blueish is 1 phrase. And for vocals, fleuro purple is 4 phrases, red is 2 phrases, orange is one phrase. Dark blue is the drop. Yellow is scratch point, purple is auto loop. This certainly has stopped the dreaded vocals on vocals. It's a bit of work to set up but well worth it as you can understand the track just by looking at your pads.

I was wondering what the jump to cues is used for? Do you Use it to jump back to the intro. Good work as always I enjoy your videos thank you

For me... Green = Intro and Mix In starting point(s), Pink = Vocals start, Blue = beats/melody in middle of song (light blue is soft sounds, medium blue is normal, and dark blue is hard), Teal = instrumental break/bridge, and Red = Outro or Mix Out point(s). For loops... Orange = 8-bar loops (90% of my loops are 8 bars), and Yellow = loops that are not 8-bar loops. Every song uses the same hot cue colors, so I know where I am at instantly, and can mix in or out super fast. I gives me have more time to do creative actions, like mess with effects, add drum loops, etc... and to look up and see people in the room and not stare at my laptop.

Can someone help me? I try to right click on my ques to change their color because I want to follow the format he gave us. Everytime I right click on the Que it just plays the song. I don't see a color wheel. And I've tried holding control and pressing the numbers keys on my keyboard and it will only give me 2 color options. For my first que I want it to be for 4 bars yellow, but I can only make it red or orange and it's making me go crazy

My cues won't continue to play it only plays the cue then stops. How do I actually start the song from the cue point? 2/18/24

it depends on the "quantize value" in "quantize preferences" ;)

This is correct. Make sure Quantization is enabled in Serato DJ Pro, and check preferences.

I’m sure you have figured this by now. If not….. lock the song. TH-cam how to do that. Once you lock it saves your settings…. Forever
