How to Train Oneself | The Life of NOVICE Monks

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 19 มี.ค. 2024
- In this video, I wanted to introduce you to the novice monks at the Benjadhamm Meditation Center in Bangkok, Thailand. Since many of us are working on improving our own habits and mind, I think seeing how the novice monks train themselves can provide us with wisdom, motivation and inspiration for our own path. I hope you find this video helpful. Enjoy! #monks #buddhism #mentalhealth

What's the habit that you are currently working on changing?
Estoy cambiando muchos de mis antiguos hábitos. Fue urgente y necesario. Cambiar hábitos es cambiar emociones adheridas a ellos, muchos son vacíos profundos.
Hi Nick, welcome back and it was so great to see you in person in Singapore last Friday! For me I am currently working on meditation, to practise 5-10mins and twice a day. One in the morning when I wake up, and one at night before sleeping.
I’m working on being more flexible and positive .. to accept the present, to do not rush for things and to trust everything that happens has a meaning, a learning experience.. this earth experience is so valuable, as those kids are for humanity!! Thank you Nick for sharing the best of your community, of our community ❤
Stop starting the day with the smartphone.
Waking early to have some calm time before my very busy days working, kids in sports, and other daily tasks.
how beautiful. I loved the deep concentration on the novices faces to ensure their robes were correct and how they helped each other.
Same! I love seeing that also 😊
This really got me. I don’t know why, but something about brought tears. This seems so far away from what I think my life could ever be, for multiple reasons. They’re having a human experience from childhood that I never knew could exist. Seemingly free of so much corruption.
I was the same, really wasn't prepared for tears (although they were definitely the joyous kind) 😊
Thank you from Poland ❤I am asking everyone to send positive energy because we are facing war and everyone in my country is terrified.
May your country have peace🙏

The smiles when the disciples show their empty trays to their teacher are so adorable!
Waking up early to exercise and meditate
Wonderful my friend 😊
So inspiring! How can boys so young be so disciplined? I also love to see the generosity of the Thais. So much to learn from the young monks & the Thais! 🙏🏼❤️💕
Yes I love seeing both the dynamics of the novices and lay people as well. It’s so great.
These boys are sooo YOUNG ! Whose decision is this that they chose monk hood at such a young age. Obviously, they are way too young to make this decision themselves. Let children be children.. in young adulthood they can make their own choices.
@@judypella7044 it is a continuation of the merits they have gathered in their previous lives. 🙏🏼
@@judypella7044 I agree. They’re babies
@@judypella7044children are too young to have social media and smartphones and parents give them to them anyway in western countries without a blink. They're too young to decide if they want to go to school, if they want to eat meat, if they want to learn a language, if they wear certain clothes or other. Children are literally always too young to decide for themselves about everything, that's why their parents make decisions for all of us when we're children since the beginning of humankind. Your question is biased and unconducive.
Anytime I see you my friend, I feel peace😘🙏🙏🙏
Sadhu sadhu! Thank you so much 😊
Such a joy watching these kids with such bright hearts and spirits 😊 Purify the surroundings to purify the mind, sounds really simple yet hard to do sometimes! Love the one kid that was figuring out how to sweep under the table with a long handle broom, cute!
Haha! The novice under the table was my favorite also 😊
I've been teaching young kids for 24 years, and I can say that those are happy kids.
Greetings from India. I am taking you as my master. Master I am 16 years old and I always get distracted as I am very curious to know many things like new technology, new jobs, and many things due to which I can't focus on one thing. Master, please light my path.
Namo Buddhaya
I’m not sure if you meditate currently, but if not, give it a try. Meditation can be so helpful.
Try meditation for ADHD, and some other ADHD and multipotential strategies for time management, they can help you ❤ good luck!
The Pomodoro technique helps improve focus on tasks for ADHD, but meditation has been key for my mind long before I knew I had it.
This is so beautiful. Their calm discipline is so inspiring. I must admit, as a mother of a small child, I do worry about their bare feet, that they don't get hurt from any debris.
Feet toughen up almost like leather quite quickly. And being attentive to one's movement can avoid most trouble. In the video you can see the particular way they are stepping. 🙏
From Ivory Coast, I am learning so much from you. It already give me some ideas for my children😉😁
Greetings my friend. I’m glad it’s given you some ideas for your own kids. That’s wonderful 😊
It melts your heart to see children meditate. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾💞💞💞
Thank you for reminding us that it's OK to be human and to not be perfect, so long as we keep trying to do better.
Namaste, Ven. Nick! 🙏 😊

Thanks venerable Nick for offering us glimpes into these novice trainee monks. Love your work and me fight the 3 source of our suffering as you highligted in one of your videos. Greed, anger and delusion. Cheers from Namibia.
Thank you, your videos are always helpful and inspiring. I often share them with my family and we talk about them together. I started my journey two years ago (I'm 52) and now I'm working on impermanence and attachment. Greeting from Italy. Paolo.

Watching from the Philippines 🇵🇭
Oh wonderful! Greetings to you 😊
Lovely to see. Yes, indeed, their pure energy... WOW! It can also be found in all other children... but these lovely boys are really special. Would have been nice to see you interviewing them :) Thank you for sharing| They might not even have the age to properly know what they want in life, but fortunatly they are in the best of the paths. If they get to experiencing adulthood's issues of the other part of the planet (the questions/doubts, "who am I?", "what am I doing here?"), they would certainly be way ahead to face it when it comes.
I wish this video were hours longer. Thank you Venerable Nick 🙏🏼
Wonderful and inspiring. May all of these precious beings be well! Thank you for sharing with us, Venerable 🙏
Thank you for allowing us a glimpse into how novice monks practise, & how alms giving are done. I loved how you have summarised with the line at the end of the video.
Awww thank you so much and I’m glad you get to see into their lives 😊
Thank you for sharing this Nick 🙏 truly inspirational. Blessings from the UK ❤
Who knows how many of them will become as Arahat. Thank you Bhante for your work. I don't have the power now to go by the Dhamma way, I am still on the same point. I can not go forward, but I hope, that you will be successful and will attain the enlightenment. I wish it to you. With a bow...thank you
Sadhu sadhu! Thank you my friend. Regardless of what’s happening, hopefully you can make time to meditate daily 😊

20/3 Wednesday
So happy to meet teacher last weekend.
One thing I learn since following you is to purify the mind. Be mindful 🧘 be clear. Through practising the precepts, learn the wisdom, apply it and meditate daily.
I do get lazy sometimes will skip but I will remind myself - back to self. Be grateful of what I have and not be mindless. Do meritorious deeds. Cherish the experience and most importantly to transfer merit to all.
Everyday is a learning lesson.
Transference of merit to Teacher. May Teacher be healthy. May Teacher stay strong in the path. And from bottom of my heart, thank you for remembering me.
Sadhu Sadhu Sadhu ❤
Sadhu sadhu! That’s a wonderful lesson. Keep integrating it into your life daily. Slowly but surely 😊
This video makes me miss for the time whenI was practicing dhamma in the temple of Thailand. Satu 🙏🙏🙏

This is so beautiful. Thank you for sharing. I am curious, however, why are they all young boys? Where are the girls?
Thank you for sharing this. I really enjoyed watching such well behaved children.
Coming to you from Boston, Mass ✌️
So good to see them wearing masks when out interacting with the public. The master monk even had an orange one to go with the robes =)

"We continue to train, we fight, we struggle, and we endure each and everyday vowing to overcome the self through sacrifice..."-
Your words in your video "Why I became a Buddhist monk."
😊😊😊
I listen attentively. 😊 Take care of yourself.
Thankyou for this video 🙏
Amazing thank you for sharing
How about a video "Dealing with what you can't control" ? I know this is literally everything outside yourself.
Then we should learn how to let it go
Very heartwarming, beautiful to know this is happening, thx for showing us!
Very encouraging video Venerable Nick, thank you so much. May I ask, do the young novice monks have a rest during the day? As 5am is a very early start to their day.
From india 🙏🙏🙏🙏
This is so imspiring to see. I just love them! Thank you so much for your content and the wisdom you share with the world! I appreciate it so much. I am not sure who to ask, but can you (or anyone reading this?) let me know how i can contact a buddhist monk for deeper spiritual understanding on two specific matters? I know i am throwing this into the ether and just seeing what i catch, but it is worth a shot! 😅
Thank you so much and here is my monk brother who teaches live weekly. You’re welcome to join and ask direct questions:

Venerable Nick,Although this is a beautiful video, I can't help but wonder if these boys have chosen this path or is it chosen for them? I think that you choosing to be a monk as an adult the best way, no?
I'm pretty sure there's a prestige for having a boy become a monk. Just like in my mother's culture sending a child to become a nun or priest is a big deal.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Dear Nick, I like you videos and your advice and sharing your experiences. I visited Pa Pea last year and will go back. It was a great experience. Are you back in Thailand? Or was this prerecorded?
Very inspiring! Would be there the posibility/time as a monk to make sports/yoga for your own or together with other monks?
Hello master i am your fan on Instagram and your follower on TH-cam . I find your teachjngs to be useful to me and i would like to make a small request to you on how to heal our inner child wounds. I have been seeing this concept several times on social media and i feel that the right person to ask for advice is from you as you are a Psychotherapist and a monk .
How do they come to this? Adults can make a decision, but how do these youngsters come to the monastery? I'm American, so I can't imagine making a choice like that when I'm that young.
Likely poverty or tradition or both. A child is fed, housed, educated, and takes on a very respected role. It's likely encouraged by the parents. Thai family dynamics is way different than American family dynamics, the children honor and respect their ancestors, the family culture is interdependent. The children likely learn that this is a moral duty. I am Southeast Asian btw.
❤
Thank you, Nick, for another video. Also, is it okay for Buddhist Monks to get tattoos?
Thank you and no we are not allowed to get tattoos
@nickkeomahavong01 Oh, OK, thank you it's just that I've seen people in orange robes get tattoos, so I was just curious.
😉
😊😊
Wake up.
Help each other get dressed in their robes.
Morning prayer (With text book).
Meditation.
Morning walk barefoot with bowl. (Teach generosity and gratitude).
Return, organize the food given, clean their hands and food.
Breakfast, having to finish everything on the plate(you put food on your own plate so it’s about not taking more than you need).
Clean up the dishes.
Cleaning, daily chores like sweep the floor. Laundry.
School.
This was a lovely video thank you. I am curious, do these children choose this life or is it chosen for them?
I wondered the same thing. Do their families send them to the monastery school in hopes of them becoming monks and/or to receive a good education. We have no equivalent in the West-at least not in the USA. Beautiful video. Blessings.
Hello master I’m an exchange student that is living in Chiang Mai and I want to see if there is any place for me to find any pali to English books so that I can learn for when I’m ready as a novice monk
Nick In which language you do chanting??
for how long theese kids will stay in monk training? Will they return to lay life?
Good evening....
How can anyone convert to Buddhism?
How you living without love and children,,, please tell me the secret..... Am 34 unmarried feeling lonely depressed and getting suicidal thought s.... Any tip from you
Having a spiritual community to be part of really helps. The wisdom/dhamma that we learn helps us to see life clearly. Also meditation helps us as well.
Do monks send each other occasion cards saying "Not thinking of you" 😂
I can hear that annoying Asian Koel in the background 😂
Seeing the young ones make their rounds just brought tears to my eyes. If only we could stay to so innocent and pure our entire lives. 🫠
🙏🩷🙏
Infinite Gratitude
Thank you
