Awesome video, really puts Fred's accomplishments into focus. Thank you. I met Fred several times. The last time I saw him was in Indian Cove at JT. What a legend. So committed, so inspiring.
As a young climber I met Fred in Anchorage Alaska in 1992 or 1993 he was giving a slide show at UAA we were completely blown away by it and how many places and first accents he did. Respect 🙏
The last photo of him tells so much of the man. really moving photo. It took balls to live the life he choose, its one thing to do it in your teens, 20's,30's and even 40's but all your life? R.I.P. Amazing man
For many years, you knew that you had made it in Cascades climbing if you received a call from Fred asking you to join him on a climb. No one turned down such an invitation. Everyone wanted to climb with Fred. Thank-you Lowell for such a beautiful memorial.
One of the best/funniest conversations that I have ever had in my life was with Fred while we were standing in my brother's kitchen about ten years ago. It was late at night and Fred was about to retire for the evening (he would often sleep at my brother's place on his many trips to the Canadian Rockies) and I had consumed about two or three beers too many. Anyway, it was just the two of us and I was suffering a serious case of laryngitis and Fred, being Fred, was getting on in years and was a little hard of hearing. We stood there for about an hour while Fred was telling me some incredible stories about some of his past conquests ... mostly about some of the women he had met over the years and a few about the mountains that he had climbed. We had chatted many times over the years but that night he couldn't hear a word that I was saying but he kept me laughing the entire time. For anyone who knew him, Fred was, without question, as rough around the edges as the mountains he climbed but he was truly one of the most unique souls that ever walked the planet. I miss you Fred. RIP, or should I say CIP (Climb in Peace). I hope that your final ascent was a good one.
I still have every edition of all his Cascade Alpine Guides. Back in the era before the mountains were swarming with climbers making TH-cam videos, they were the encyclopedias we studied. I saw a number of his slide shows over the years, where he frequently repeated the advice he gave in his books to tread lightly and carefully, and be willing to turn back when faced with foul weather, or any other conditions for which you are not prepared. There would be more old mountain climbers if everyone took that advice.
Thank you for posting this about the Legendary and one and only. Words are NOT sufficient to the task.

Thanks for putting together something really cool for a really amazing and unique person
I would love to have the opportunity to keep going into the mountains as long as I physically can. Beautiful work here, well done.

Lived until 94. Says a lot about being active and doing something you love.
