Agreed. But, if he isn't in the movie, the actor going as Obi-Wan is gonna have some big shoes to fill, a loooooot of pressure. Much like how Ewan had to live up to Alec I suspect...

Ngl but Disney saved Star Wars. Sure you might not like the Sequels, and you don't have to, but you have to admit that before Episode 7 came out Star Wars just wasn't being talked about anymore and the Sequels helped bring it back into the spotlight. Also, we've got so many other great things from Disney era Star Wars, like The Mandalorian, The Clone Wars Season 7, the spin-off films and we're going to be getting so much more content now Disney+ is up and running, including an Obi-Wan show which is something fans have wanted for YEARS. So just because the Sequels weren't amazing, doesn't mean Disney is doing an awful job with Star Wars.
+Crysta1Pisto1 they should seriously consider putting a new movie with Darth maul in and incorporate obiwan... maybe even an in between movie with Darth Vader... cause let's face it, it'll be hard to never see a badass like that on the big screens

@@thetoxicraptor8479 you obviously dont know much star wars. Or more specifically Obi wan. I recommend you check out the star wars legends books there are quite a few detailing what obi wan did right after "killing" vader and dropping Luke off on tattooine and between A New Hope.
@@Inebriated_Goat I know lots about Star Wars. I know a lot about Obi-Wan, perhaps it would be sort of interesting to see between 3-4. I was tired when I wrote that. Lol. I mean, he went young to old between a movie, so...and I have a lot of the legend books, FYI.
I'm surprised I was expecting all kinds of ewan will never be Alec comments but there is a surprising amount of love for ewans Obi wan with good reason too
***** Agreed. Alec Guinness's Obi-Wan, even though he died halfway through the original Star Wars (and that's what it will always be, to those of us who grew up loving it and endlessly re-watching it!) absolutely made the film what it was; the character and backstory of Obi-Wan is at least as interesting as that of Darth Vader. And Ewan was, indeed, one of the few saving graces in the "Prequel" Trilogy - which was largely just a load of CGI and bad lines thrown together... unworthy of the name "Star Wars". And don't even get me started on the "Midichlorians"... how could they *DO* that to the all-powerful and mysterious Force? Sacrilege.
Nell Smith You're an ignorant! The Prequels had more practical effects than the Originals! The lines were just the same as the Originals... goofy! And midi-chlorians didn't explain the Force, the Force is still mysterious! It just explained why certain people can use the Force!
jimbo jones Let's be honest, while Alec Guinnes is a brilliant actor, his performance as Obi-Wan was stiff -- and he even admitted to phoning in his performance. I generally found the acting stiff in both trilogies. And Ewan's performance was one of the few departures and with that, highlights of the trilogy. I'll say it without hesitation that there was more fire and immediacy in McGregor's performance than Guinnes' tired performance. Generally, people need to stop deifying the original trilogy and nitpicking the prequels. They're really within the same sphere as far as film making is concerned and have their own strengths and weaknesses. They're both technical visual exercises (even the original trilogy for its time) with plotholes, stiff acting and awful dialogues. But it doesn't matter; Star Wars isn't about the individual movies or scenes. It's about the awesome universe that is made up by all the movies. And all those movies are great for their contribution to the greater Star Wars universe. I'm also in complete agreement with Yallow Ayez . The midi-chlorieans do NOT change the nature of the force. Some people complained that now it seems "only select individuals can use the force"... ..but that was already said in the original trilogy (Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi both made a point of how the force is strong with Luke in particular). The force is still an intangible mystical, supernatural phenomenon in the Star Wars universe. The midi-chlorieans only explain why someone is force sensitive, and more force sensitive than someome else. In other words, it only explains why some people are more force sensitive than others.
Nell Smith It's not like the original trilogy was that good either. People just have this idea that it is the greatest movie series ever created, but it's really not. The originals, with it's own universe and so many special effects, were rather new for it's time. People found it so great because of that, so they didn't notice all the bad things, plot holes, acting, continuity errors etc. The prequels wasn't new for it's time, it was CGI and we had seen it before, so not many people had the same wow feeling as when they first watched the originals, and without that wow feeling, people began noticing all the bad things, and immediatly began saying how bad they were compared to the originals. Both series had it's flaws and wow moments, people just didn't notice them the first time around.
TheAndersand2500 Best explanation for the PT hate, ever. Make sense for me. And the fact that the "hardcore" fans of the Original Trilogy grew up with that movies, so they would have attachment for them and more of a phycologic reason, the "first" impression
Dooku and Windu should've dueled in AOTC, especially since they had sort of the same dynamic as Anakin and Obi-Wan did; being former friends turned foes.
Ewan’s performance brought my love of Obi Wan to a whole new level. He was definitely my fadovite character from the prequels, along with Qui Gon despite his short time with us.
"Anakin wasn't supposed to kill the younglings... he just came on set one day and started whacking those f*ckers. Turns out, I had the cameras rolling the whole time." -George Lucas
thepunkster90x The rumor mill seems to be pointing that way. The story goes that Ewan was up for the role of Dr. Strange, but Disney came in and said it couldn't be him (can't remember if stated or implied he'd be needed elsewhere). Given Disney's intervention and their ownership of both Marvel and Star Wars properties, the tie is that Obi-Wan is getting a spinoff, and Ewan's back at lead.
I think that Ewan and Haydn became such good if not close friends when they played as Obi-Wan and Anakin in Star Wars 2 and 3 for they helped tell and bring the story of how their character came to being when we first heard about them in the early films about how did Luke's father be with his mentor and the friendship they once had and how did Obi-Wan see how Anakin became Darth Vader.
Simply put, their friendship status is/was unknown. As the audience, it's natural for us to want them to be friends outside of the workplace due to their portrayal of a captivating duo. Alas, that's not always the case. I wouldn't be surprised if they rarely talked (if at all) following Episode III.
What I love about Ewan's performance is he never tries to imitate Alec Guinness instead he plays him his own way but adds in certain motions and expressions which Guinness had in A New Hope which ties the two together and you can see him age into the Obi Wan we see in Ep 4
Anytime Ewan Mcgregor interacts with Hayden Christiansen it’s just Obi-wan and Anakin

I haven't ever heard anyone talk badly about him, it's mostly complaining about George and Hayden
right? The dude is Obi-Wan Kenobi
fuck ewan mcgregor, fucking piece of shit !
And to think he is returning to that character, Hayden Christianson as well
The best perfomances in the prequels:
1. Ian McDirmid as Palpatine
2. Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan
3. Christopher Lee as Count Dooku
Elliot Tanner 4. Hayden Christensen as Anakin
All British actors lol
Hayden did a fantastic job as Anakin. People need to ignore the bullshit plot/script of Attack of the Clones and the famous sand rant. That was script-writers fault. Hayden himself played the part perfectly. But if you want my opinion, I prefer Anakin from The Clone Wars lol. Much more in depth.
Samuel L Jackson as Mace Windu

This Video is why Ewan deserves to be Obi Wan for the Kenobi Movie it can't be Kenobi without Obi Wan himself.
Agreed. But, if he isn't in the movie, the actor going as Obi-Wan is gonna have some big shoes to fill, a loooooot of pressure.
Much like how Ewan had to live up to Alec I suspect...
Disney has no other choice. They need to cast Ewan McGregor or Fans will riot.
My guess is, if anyone make a movie about Obi-Wan without Ewan, the actor acting Obiwan gonne ba flame all around social networks

The difference is no one wanted a solo movie. A kenobi movie would be more preferable.
The Kenobi movie must be about him learning how to become one with the force, and must include Liam Neeson at least as a voice.

It's a TV show now
Given that Neeson lender his voice for a few EPs in The Clone Wars, I'm sure he'd do it again for the Kenobi series

So just because the Sequels weren't amazing, doesn't mean Disney is doing an awful job with Star Wars.
lets hope he gets the chance to play Obi Wan again in one of the stand alone films

I love it when Ewan jumps down on a puddle all happy and splashes water on George and apologizes with a smile. lol
This makes me just want to watch the entire saga all over again
Do it.

thepunkster90x The rumor mill seems to be pointing that way.

Well, as good as they could have been anyway
It’s actually crazy how much Alec and Ewan do look alike.
Kanefan701 WELL WRITTEN!
Simply put, their friendship status is/was unknown. As the audience, it's natural for us to want them to be friends outside of the workplace due to their portrayal of a captivating duo. Alas, that's not always the case. I wouldn't be surprised if they rarely talked (if at all) following Episode III.
and not just his mentor, but his womentor and his childrentor too

Nuno Orange ....no
Nuno Orange you're wrong. the prequels are not classics but they are original.
Kevin Beswick They're not original. Lucas basically used the same movie template from the original trilogy for episodes 1 and 2.
Anthony Daniels still sounds like C-3PO without the vocoder.
YEP
What I love about Ewan's performance is he never tries to imitate Alec Guinness instead he plays him his own way but adds in certain motions and expressions which Guinness had in A New Hope which ties the two together and you can see him age into the Obi Wan we see in Ep 4
