I still can't believe this robotic puppy isn't still available to purchasers in Illinois! I hate you Sony in not trying harder for this Aibo model to be available in my area! Been a big fan of Aibo since the early 2000's and was so excited that you released him back. To be only disappointed that I can't buy him in Illinois.
Also, what about the Rest of the world? aibo isn’t available anywhere beside Japan and the US. Europe, Australia, etc? Nope.

I read that they get to a point where spare parts are obsolescent so they effectively die. They held a Buddhist funeral for a number in Japan - obviously after they'd donated some 'organs' to give life to others.
No death? That's hilarious. Parts wear out. Companies stop supporting their "products". What do you call it when your robot dog is too old to receive software updates and won't work any more?

Sorry so late, but how come you felt the need to speed the playback up to show how fast this dog really isn't? It cannot run very fast at all. People that don't own one don't know this and they also don't know how heavy it is, which is why the movements are so slow. The motors and servos would burn out a lot quicker at higher speeds. Oh yeah! I almost forgot to mention that even at this slow speed the legs and hip joints fail because of all of the weight. Yes, the inner workings require so many different motors and servos and circuitry, etc., that it makes it quite heavy.
It is also quite expensive @$3000.00. But it doesn't stop there. People aren't aware of the fact that the "Cloud" services require a subscription that is quite costly. If you want to "Virtually" feed him you will need this service. So, if you aren't rich by any means of the term rich, then you probably should stay away from this. All of his accessories are very expensive also. Keeping in mind that his hip joints fail should send up a red flag. I bet the cost of repair is astronomical.
This year, 2022, Sony has come out with a new "Strawberry" color. Also, this year there is a new Cost added, it is the cost of a factory "Checkup" that is mandatory before you can purchase the Cloud service. WOW! Talk about a money black hole. Look it up.
Omg imagine if real dog joints failed, real dogs were heavy, feeding a real dog or buying s real dog toy was expensive, or you had to take care of real dogs. They would be extinct

That is a good point, but this was developed to meet the needs of a specific demographic rather than to replace flesh and blood pets.
It’s a way for Sony to spy on people and collect data.
