Tenacity down can’t be resisted…..
Pinned - Yes! tenacity Down cannot be resisted, just learned. some character kits actually say “which can’t be resisted”, like CDooku which adds confusion. However, Rex’s 1st special also inflict bebuffs so it would be wise to maintain some solid potency anyway for when the enemies cleanse, and many will. Edited for clarity.
He uses his AOE so often I still think potency is largely useless @@thegerbil23 better to just go for straight speed/health/cc imo. Works for me and I beat LV Reva teams with my Phoenix.
I suspect that Crex applies Tenacity Down first, so potency modding may be unnecessary. This could be tested in a galactic challenge, perhaps.

Heras basic is not useless. The expose on basic is actually pretty useful
Well... ya, it is. I meant that in the sense that it's not something to mod for as it will not win/lose you the match. And while it is more damage, you have to target the healthiest enemy, which is something you generally don't want to do. Also... because it's only the healthiest enemy, it can only be done a few times per battle, if you are lucky.
Would rather have defense sets with health primaries for the tanks, but definitely interested in 3 potency sets on Rex
Was thinking about the defense sets as I was recording, but not sure. As for the 3 potency sets.... I might be wrong about that. Turns out (I did not know), that Tenacity Down cannot be resisted, so not sure Rex needs so much potency. Now leading toward 1 set and 2 health sets on Rex. :( See, I'm still learning too. :)

Dang it, now I have gear all 7 ;) Also, tenacity down is unresistable and (in CRex's instance) unavoidable.
Right, I just learned this and pinned a similar comment. But note it could be cleansed and his basic and other special all debuff, making potency important still… in my humble opinion. :)
Hello Gerbil, was wondering if a speed set would be more viable and 1 health. I know a lot of the community set their captain Rex in this fashion. What is your thoughts on this. . Trying to watch my grammar here since I know you a teacher. . . 😂😂😊😊

CURIOUS QUESTION’S: FEEDBACK
Let me start by saying what I am about to say to you isn’t meant to be Offensive, Mean, or Hurtful in anyway.
I understand making videos isn’t easy.
I understand a lot of time, effort, & energy is used on your part to create and narrate a video.
You are trying to make a well informed video to help the general public the best you can.
You are making recommendations based on your own situation and experience.
The game is extremely complex and there are hundreds of different ways a person can play.
I completely understand and I appreciate what you are doing.
The reason I am here commenting to you today is because I have a few curious questions.
Before I say my question, I just want to give you some Background Information.
I have been playing SWGOH for about 3 weeks.
I am a Beginner and I am still learning about the game.
I have spent some money on the game.
I bought the Hyper Bundle.
I spent few days looking through TH-cam to try and find a Beginner team to start with.
The Game is overflowing with different characters which can be overwhelming for a Beginner.
I wanted to find a good starting Path.
In the end, I believe I found a Beginner Guide which I can enjoy.
The Beginner team which I believe would give me the best bang for buck is the Phoenix team.
I believe the Phoenix team will help me unlock 3.5 Legendary Characters in the Solo Journey Adventures.
- Thrawn
- Chimera
- Emperor Palpatine
- Partially, Grand Master Yoda
Even though, I picked the Phoenix team as my starting team.
I didn’t know what 5 characters to use.
The Phoenix team has 7 characters and to be on the safe side I decided to level all 7 of them.
It wasn’t a huge sacrifice to level them because the characters use different currency.
- 2 of them use Cantina Energy
- 3 of them use Regular Energy
- 2 of them can be bought in Shop
Also, The stronger the characters get the stronger their ships become.
I plan to use Phoenix team as my first Ground team.
I plan to use Phoenix ships (Ghost & Phantom) with Bigs + Wedge + Ackbar as my first Rebel Air team.
This should help both my Ground & Air Game simultaneously.
SO NOW THAT I EXPLAINED MY PLAN ABOVE:
You can see how I found my way to your Channel/Video.
I have the Phoenix heroes almost maxed.
- They are currently lvl 80.
- They are using lvl 8 gears.
- I have 3 of them 7 stars.
- I plan on making the remaining 4 maxed star as well.
What I don’t know is:
- What 5 heroes to use on the team.
- What Move Order to use on the team.
- What MOD’s to use on the team.
KEEP IN MIND, I’M NOT A TOTAL IDIOT.
I am new to SWGOH, but I have been playing games for over 25 years.
A lot of games use similar gaming models.
They are not exactly the same, but they can share similar elements.
I don’t know what 5 heroes to use.
I don’t know what move order to use.
I don’t know what MOD’s to use
BUT, I DID TRY TO FIGURE IT OUT ON MY OWN.
I thought about how I would do some of the above things.
Before, I committed to my own ideals and thoughts.
I decided to get a second opinion.
I decided to COMPARE NOTE’S.

I looked at the different Phoenix characters and tried to pick a 5 character team.
After giving the situation some thought, I came up with 2 different teams as well.
The first team I came up with is similar to your team 1.
It seems we had the same logic in that regard.
The second team I came up with is slightly different vs. the teams you mention.
The second team I came up with doesn’t use Sabrina or Chopper.
THIS DIFFERENCE BRINGS ME TO MY FIRST CURIOUS QUESTION:
How does Sabrina help the team?
I couldn’t find a use for Sabrina on either of my teams.
I also don’t understand how Sabrina is helping your 2nd team.
Zeb does stun with his basic if enemy is Daze, Staggered, or Exposed.
The enemy doesn’t need to have all 3 of these Debuffs in order for Zeb to stun.
The enemy only needs 1 out of the 3.
Captain Rex can do Daze with Suppressing Fire.
When Rex does Suppressing Fire, Zeb should be ready and able to Stun Lock.
It seems redundant?
Maybe, there is something happening strategically which I am not aware of.
I do think it is interesting.

MY SECOND CURIOUS QUESTION RELATED TO MODS:
What do you think if I was to put 1x Speed set + 1x Potency set on Captain Rex?
I saw you recommending 3x Potency set on Caption Rex.
The build I had was kind of different.
- Arrow - Speed
- Triangle - Health
- Cross - Potency
- Circle - Protection
My thinking is to try and make Rex crazy fast so he can move before enemy and fill the team turn meter so rest of team can go.
I was thinking in order for Rex to reach his full speed potential.
He would need Speed set to give him extra boost.
Also, I was thinking Protection Circle could help in area’s of the game which have waves.
A Big Protection shield can sometimes help in wave fights.
What do you think?

MY THIRD CURIOUS QUESTION RELATED TO MODS:
What do you think if I was to put 1x Speed set + 1x Health set on Kanan?
The build I was thinking about.
- Arrow - Critical Avoidance
- Triangle - Health
- Cross - Tenacity
- Circle - Protection
My thinking is Kanan is a tank with Taunt.
Tanks with Taunt are going to be hit by enemy almost 99% of the time.
The question is how hard will the tank be hit.
I was thinking if I add Critical Avoidance Kanan will get hit, but at least it will not be big Critical hit doing tons of damage.
I am hoping to make the hits on Kanan be Baby hits.
In addition, I was thinking of using a Speed set on Kanan to make up for the fact I didn’t use a Speed Arrow on Kanan.
I am hoping the Speed set can make up some of the lack of speed.
Lastly, I was thinking of using Tenacity Cross because Kanan can do a Debuff Cleanse for the team.
If Kanan is Debuffed with a Stunned or something he will not be able to cleanse rest of the team.
This is my line of thinking

Again, I am no expert.
I am a beginner.
Comparing notes and sharing different ideas is how people can learn.
We all see things differently and sometimes we see things similarly.
These differences and similarities can have value.
At end of day, we just want to make a good Phoenix team we are happy with.
Comparing different set ups and having a discussion can help reach that goal.
Hey, I sincerely appreciate the time it took to write this, and I would love to address all of it, but it sincerely is beyond my available time to explain so much depth of detail in a YT comment. I 100% suggest you break this into smaller pieces and post on to Reddit's SWGOH subred. There, you can get a lot more in depth with great support from the community. www.reddit.com/r/SWGalaxyOfHeroes/ Otherwise, a couple ofquick things. 1) my advice on rex all potency was wrong. I address this in a recent vid admitting that was a bad tip. We all live and learn. 2) Don't worry about being tooo polite or defending your choices in the game. :) ): It's just that, a game. You should do what you like and that's all that matters really. 3) your thinking on Kanan's mods are fine, but I would go Health or Speed over Crit Avoidance 95% of the time. 4) finally, if you want to join my discord, I have an "ask Gerbil" section where you can post these questions and I may answer them over time. Really, you have great questions, just too many all at once.
Most optimal Phoenix roster: Hera/Rex/Sabine/Kanan/Chop
Mods:
speed+health on Hera
Speed+potency on Rex
CC+CD on Sabine
Health x 3 on Kanan (could also supplement in a defense or tenacity set)
Speed+potency on Chop
You want Sabine & Rex as your fastest (ideally sabine first then Rex) followed by Hera.
Zeb is a good support alternate to Sabine for specific fights
Ezra is the odd-man-out for Phoenix since the release of Rex.

It has been month since my original post.
In the end, I found the answers to my question’s on my own.
The set up I have been running is:
Hera/Rex/Chopper/Ezra/Kanan
I like the above set up because I only have to farm 3 MOD NOD’s.
I use my 3 MOD energy refreshed on:
- Health
- Speed
- Critical Damage
I use 1 Speed set on Hera + Rex.
The last 2 pieces are just broken pieces which give no set bonus, but give more Speed.
I use 3 Health sets on Chopper + Kanan
They are tanks and they usually get hit a lot so extra Health helps them survive.
I use 1 Critical Damage set on Ezra
The last 2 pieces are just broken pieces which give no set bonus, but give more Critical Rate or Critical Damage.

I could run 1 of other set ups:
Hera/Rex/Chopper/Sabrina/Zeb
Or
Hera/Rex/Chopper/Sabrina/Kanan
The only issue is they need a lot of Potency and a person would have to farm Potency NOD in addition to other 3.
I just don’t feel like doing it right now.
