No one seems to understand he had this planned all along. He trained for years all for this one moment. During training he never did anything wrong, he ignored the boring toys he played with all his life, and the small amount of stale treats in the bins. The contest finally started, the big day, and there it all was: hotdogs, fresh meat, balls and the coveted plush animals. It was the biggest heist of the century.

I don't think they took into consideration, that one dog may eat all the food, and if there is enugh food. The dog could potentially die if it's stomach is overfilled. If the dog isn't able to get the food up itself by puking or a vet sucks out the food of it's stomach.
Most likely this wasn't the case, but most of those plates had a lot of food on them.

A typical Golden! I have owned two of them now. My favorite breed; insomuch, Golden’s are notorious for staying puppyish much longer than other breeds, and are very food-driven! Real chow hounds.

._. the point was to ignore the toys and treats and obey their owner, the dog went for the treats because he wasn't trained to go towards his owner when they commanded it, so neither of the dogs were dumb, the golden just wasn't ready

I have a golden retriever and she would be able to run this without eating the food or playing with the toys, its just about proper training/discipline from an early age.
Her problem is more with other people/dogs, as i havnt had much opportunity to train her to ignore other people/dogs and just listen to me, although shes gotten alot better.
I think its just likely that that girls is the sole person training that dog and doesnt understand the discipline it takes to not cave into the human desire to constantly just give the dog everything it wants.
He's the most intelligent dog there. The winner won't even know or care that he won so at least the retriever got something out of it.

This competition does nothing for the dog really but a test of obedience, so the owners win. This Golden Retriever did the opposite - for him it was like going to an All you can eat buffet! how often does that happen?! better take advantage of it and look how happy he was!! owner may have lost but the dog won!
