Amazing game, but it's true that the world is far too small to be believable. FF7 Remake made it feel like Midgar was to scale, it was gigantic. Rebirth definitely felt way too small. I'd prefer they had isolated areas you explore and switch maps to another zone so the world map would be much larger without them having to make it all fully rendered and explorable. Highwind in Part 3 will only work if they make the map way bigger, like 20x or larger, and that does sound crazy but otherwise either they're going to shrink the Highwind or it'll move incredibly slowly and still feel like the world is too small. Will be interesting to see how it turns out
@@TurboMintyFresh a fully functioning highwind was a stated early priority for part 3. I believe the tiny bronco flight sequences were early ideas of how you'd fly.
It's a bummer with not just Rebirth, but FF16 aswell. It's even wilder that there's a dedicated chapter in Rebirth where you're on a cruise ship, of which the trip seems to last days, but you can cross the ocean within barely 5 minutes on your own. For FF16, it's supposed to be a grand island for which multiple nations are fighting. But the scale shatters so damn quickly - fast travel points that are about 1 km apart already seem to be half the size of the big map away from each other lmao
Cruise ships never travel at full speed. Thats why it took them a day to get to Costa. Cid's ship travels as fast as you want it to. So if you just speed straight to Costa from Junon, yeah its bea shorter ride.
It will be interesting to see this region once it's had a facelift for the airship in part 3. For this part, they've only modelled what you can see from a distance as a stand in. I expect that, Midgar in part 3 will function in a similar manner to Midgar in the OG. There is a smaller representation like this on the world map by airship, but when you enter it, it will be an isolated area. Like any of the times you play Midgar as Zack during Rebirth. Those areas don't actually exist to scale on this world map and likely never will. If part 3 follows the OG, we'll likely just see Midgar during cut scenes and the WEAPON attack portions and then we'll parachute into isolated areas from the Highwind late in the game. They're not going to let us into the whole city to the scale we see during Remake's opening. That'd be awesome, but it's beyond the scope of the game.
Really makes me wonder how they plan on implementing flying the Highwind if that's even going to be a thing. Going from one continent to the next across the ocean with the Tiny Bronco is already very quick so i can't imagine how fast it's going to be flying from one place to another. Surely they're going to massively increase the size of the map because in Rebirth everything just felt so close to each other that the sense of scale of the world felt just too small. Midgar is also supposedly in the middle of a huge desert but here it occupies the entire desert.
They have the ability the make the entirety of Midgar 3D, I would love to explore more of this place. I mean of you've played Jedi Survivor the first level has an entire 3D city on top of you, so this could be possible.
Given how many new areas they're already gonna be adding, I doubt they'll add much more to Midgar. You'll just get to return to some areas from the first game probably.
@@beechwoodbandit8680 A pretty short part of it. I'm willing to bet we only get a small slice of Midgar as a dungeon-style setpiece and that the city is never accessible from the open world
@@ngwoo That would piss a lot of people off since at least Sector 5 and Wall Market was accessible in the original, and letting us into at least those spaces could mean some cool story moments.
Great video thanks for that, It does make me wander how they will technically get Midgar to work in the world map for part 3 with the high wind, it was obviously impossible to make the world map to correct scale where the Midgar from first game would fit. So i wouldn't be surprised if there is either a invisible barrier stopping us from reaching it or "air defenses" then the time we do go to visit we will get a cinematic video of us entering Midgar and appear in the city properly after a loading sequence. same likewise when we do leave
I wonder if the Midgar model is the same one in the Shinra museum from Remake. The same sequence as the little planetarium presentation with the ancients.
since you were able to explore the midgar region, was it possible to explore the northern region and beyond? to see if the northern Crater could be reached? =D
And what’s even funnier is that isn’t even an accurate representation of how massive Midgar is, I guarantee the next game is going to FEEL way bigger, areas are going to be larger, and the simple fact that we will be able to go back to midgar, I think it would be foolish to not let us travel seemlessly through the entire game like they did with this one at the end
From above, I can't help but see Midgar as an impact crater, the outer plates resembling blast marks. I wonder if that's an intentional, grim implication.
Insane amount of detail. Always wondered how they manage to pull off making Midgar scale accurate for part 3 cause I knew just by looking at it, it was a lot smaller than it was in part 1. However I wanna know, is the Wutai section mapped out? You couldn’t even see it from the minimap.
Also I think it’s incredibly insane to put the bridge you fight the air buster on knowing damn well no one should be able to see it but I’m glad someone on the team decided to go ahead and put that detail in there for the “what if” scenario.
i hope they really scale up the world in part 3, everything feels way too small, and i noticed that after going from corel to gongaga. Or how the cutscene at the end of Intergrade showed a much bigger area when they first arrive at Kalm.
Incredibly detailed for something you see over a mountain. Plenty of accuracy to the original models even from perspectives nobody would get to see. This is what low poly can do. There is no need for games with extremely high requirements. Segregation will get you nowhere. Ask for optimization instead, it'll get you better graphics resolution and frames.
Wow this is cool man. Thanks for the video. Curious. Will we need Remake files to enter Midgar? Or will part 3 include them? The game would probably be bigger than Rebirth was which is at 155 GB on the PC with Remake 94.5 GB. If they included their own Midgar wouldn't it be under a new engine wouldn't it? imo the scale at the moment doesn't look like how Advent Children looks. I thought they wanted to connect the trilogy with it? There should be a lot of highways and stuff and Midgar doesn't look like any of the two, AC and Remake.
This is just a low LOD (Level of Detail) model that you're meant to see in the distance from the Grasslands, it's not indicative of what the actual Midgar region will look like. Hence why the highway goes straight into a rock wall for example. Odds are Midgar will not be fully explorable. You'll be able to fly over it on the Highwind but the raid will probably be instanced areas like most of the linear dungeon sequences. They'll probably let us come back afterwards to explore the slums areas from Remake for sidequests and such though.
Is Midgar just scaled down or is it because the free camera has a massive fov? The city almost looks toy-like. The camera also makes far away accessible areas look way smaller than in normal gameplay.
my hope for part 3 is they make the entirety of Midgar playable and to scale. Upper and lower plate areas we see in the teaser trailer years before part 1 released included
Everyone on our party is now being hunted by Shinra, since they already know their identities. SE dropped the ball not letting us explore Upper Midgar on Remake, because at least there they could say "oh, nobody knows who Avalanche is, so explore it as much as you like", but now on Part 3 I'm 100% sure that Midgar is going to be just a dungeon like Temple of The Ancients. That's one of the major reasons that I dislike Remake and Rebirth, instead of the writers and devs taking stuff from the OG that weren't talked about a lot, like where did Jenova came from, or exploring Midgar fully, they prefered to add loads of fillers, comedy stuff and the Whispers, that IMO it's just a excuse to explain certains fan services, like Aerith on the final boss and Zack there too, feels like they want to please everybody even if it means that the narrative isn't coherent enough
Prolly wont. Still not doable with todays technology without MASSIVE amounts of money and time. Think about it, Cyberpunk 2077 has Night City thats prolly on par with what Midgar fully explorable and to-scale would be. And that game has ONE city that they focused almost all their time and resources to.
@ Yeah 99.9% sure it won't happen for those reasons. Something that big is a pipe dream but man, can't wait till some publisher/studio makes it happen one day
When I played through rebirth the scale of midgar seemed off. It seems too small. Is there anyway to play a character next to the objects in midgar to see if the scale is correct? If the aren’t right they will have to play with loading into an area in the 3rd game so as to correct for scale from the open world into midgar.
What's weird though is according to the actual in-game world map midgar should not be this close to kalm whatsoever. In fact the whole desert region doesn't connect to midgar at all
my thought is that they could potentially release part 3 on 2 playable discs, one with just midgar and the rest of that continent, and the other with the rest of the continents
I'm surprised Midgar is modeled , especially since you cannot access it. They might as well have used a PNG barrier since it's blockaded ( story wise and Unreal Engine model wise, literally speaking). They didn't need to model it. They could have just easily used a matte painting. However, having said that I have a gut feeling they may continue to work on the Midgqr model because spoilers, you re-enter it temporarily. Either that or when you revisit Midgqr, it night be a different map as opposed to the world map.
Midgar on rebirth is not 1:1 scale. I feel they miniaturize it. When you play in midgar on remake, you will feel the city is very large. I dont get that sense here. Overall all region in rebirth are miniaturized. The world feel too small. Though i feel they did very good job in masking it
The whole time playing the game I couldn't ignore how small the world felt, and Midgar was a big reason why. Since that first look at it with Aerith on top of the tower, I couldn't not see how tiny it was. Contextualized the whole world for me from that point on, everything seemed small. Once you get the Tiny Bronco, it was made even worse, the distance between the two "continents" could be traversed in less time than a single Queen's Blood game. The lost city of the ancients is closer to Midgar than my nearest costco is to my home. I loved the game, but these were intrusive thoughts throughout the whole experience for me lol. I'm very interested to see how they will do the Highwind in part 3, and how they correct the impression given by Rebirth without breaking immersion.
I'd have preferred separate zones that you get loading between rather than being able to free roam like we can right now. If The Highwind means we have this immersion break that actually millions of people don't live in the open world (we cross a continent in chapter 2 and it's only Kalm and 3 chocobo farmers) then it's too much of an immersion break imo for 5 minutes of hahaha funny flying ship. But the zones themselves are big, it's just we don't have an over-world map like in the original to give the illusion of the party crossing vast distances. They should've used the fort condor style avatars of the cast as overworld pawns we move between zones like in the OG.
The world did feel small compared to midgar and it kind of bugged me. I would've prefered an actual 1:1 scale of the world map by just letting unreal engine generate vast landscapes and then allow the player to switch between "overworld mode" where you are a representation of where you travel in the world like the OG and at anytime switch to "explore mode" where it zooms into the actual scale. Cmon how cool would that be? Mostly empty I get, but immersive as hell.
@@rainku498 The world map in the menu kind of hints at such a mode. It depicts the regions we explore as a tiny subset of the whole map displayed. But then once you free roam in the tiny bronco, it's clear that map can't be real.

And (here's hoping) will continue to flourish for many years to come. (I play World of Warcraft, but I encourage and cheer on this MMO's growth and prosperity.)

Will be interesting to see how it turns out
you probably wont be able to even fly it. I cant see them doing it
@@TurboMintyFresh a fully functioning highwind was a stated early priority for part 3.
Insane. Imagine if they add Wutai in the next game. Probably we pay more but I'm here for it.
The amount of detail is astonishing.
A lot of assets are left over from The First Soldier battle royale.
It's gonna be crazy to see the whole world complete int he next one.
Amazing flyby, thank you. 🙏
I bet there will be a no fly zone near Midgar, or Whispers blocking you from getting close.
Doubt it, as part of the third part takes place there.
I imagine for most of the game you'd be at risk of being shot down or something
@@beechwoodbandit8680 A pretty short part of it. I'm willing to bet we only get a small slice of Midgar as a dungeon-style setpiece and that the city is never accessible from the open world
@@ngwoo
That would piss a lot of people off since at least Sector 5 and Wall Market was accessible in the original, and letting us into at least those spaces could mean some cool story moments.
@@kurisu7885Would be nice if they made us explore other sectors of Midgar
Great video thanks for that, It does make me wander how they will technically get Midgar to work in the world map for part 3 with the high wind, it was obviously impossible to make the world map to correct scale where the Midgar from first game would fit. So i wouldn't be surprised if there is either a invisible barrier stopping us from reaching it or "air defenses" then the time we do go to visit we will get a cinematic video of us entering Midgar and appear in the city properly after a loading sequence. same likewise when we do leave
Aside from the fallen Sector 7 plate, I'm 99% sure this is the scale model replica from the Shinra tour in the first game.
I mean, we did get an entire game in Midgar, after all. Plus, we’ll be going back to it in Part3.
Nice to see a proper camera viewer. Are you able to take it to that northwest area obscured by clouds on the map? What I presume is rocket town area?
I always wonder how upper midgar city looks like more to explore
Midgar really is fucking massive. 😂
makes me wonder if theyll do a open world section on the midgar region, i think they could, but a lot of new stuff would need to be added
they wont
From above, I can't help but see Midgar as an impact crater, the outer plates resembling blast marks. I wonder if that's an intentional, grim implication.
I wonder if there will be transparent walls around Midgar for the Highwind...
I don't know if that's doable, but it would be nice if you could put Cloud into these out of bounds areas so we can get a better sense of scale
Or how the cutscene at the end of Intergrade showed a much bigger area when they first arrive at Kalm.
you gotta appreciate this one 3:06 damn!
Imagine Xenogears getting FF7 Remake treatment.
I wish you could teleport over there. I'm curious to the size of the characters compared to the model of Midgar.
i like to see some mad lad gonna mod Sector 7 and 6 slum into the Midgar model
Very nice
i'm really sad not even in remake we visited midgar that much, for a game only playable in that city i expected to explore more sectors
Real FULL remake of Midgar...
This “very low poly” model probably has 10x more polygons than the entirety of Final Fantasy VII.
I think part 3 is definitely going to be delayed with the amount of regions that needs to be done
Are you likely to cover Rocket region and Fort Condor at all? Would be ace to see Wutai too but I'm not sure if it's even on the Rebirth map?
They add the whole city for the cutscene, I guess.
Is Midgar just scaled down or is it because the free camera has a massive fov? The city almost looks toy-like. The camera also makes far away accessible areas look way smaller than in normal gameplay.
what about aeris' flashback? where does it take place?
my hope for part 3 is they make the entirety of Midgar playable and to scale. Upper and lower plate areas we see in the teaser trailer years before part 1 released included
it wont happen
Something that big is a pipe dream but man, can't wait till some publisher/studio makes it happen one day
Midgar’s too big to make that happen.
The only possible solution is we get a DLC for part 3 that takes place in a fully explorable Midgar.
When I played through rebirth the scale of midgar seemed off. It seems too small. Is there anyway to play a character next to the objects in midgar to see if the scale is correct? If the aren’t right they will have to play with loading into an area in the 3rd game so as to correct for scale from the open world into midgar.
i'm sure i saw the design of midgar in some star trek episode from the 90s.....
What's weird though is according to the actual in-game world map midgar should not be this close to kalm whatsoever.
In fact the whole desert region doesn't connect to midgar at all
Part 3 is going to need to fill all of this in. No more half-assing it.
really hope size change for part 3.
my thought is that they could potentially release part 3 on 2 playable discs, one with just midgar and the rest of that continent, and the other with the rest of the continents
i'm starting to think that they are gonna expand more all of the areas to fit on history, specially the area surrounding midgar
Shinra will definitely have some form of SAM's or the like to keep players away from Midgar until its story appropriate.
bro u sure using highest texture setting?
It looks like the secret ending of og FF7 lol
I'm surprised Midgar is modeled , especially since you cannot access it. They might as well have used a PNG barrier since it's blockaded ( story wise and Unreal Engine model wise, literally speaking). They didn't need to model it. They could have just easily used a matte painting.
However, having said that I have a gut feeling they may continue to work on the Midgqr model because spoilers, you re-enter it temporarily. Either that or when you revisit Midgqr, it night be a different map as opposed to the world map.
looks way smaller than it should be, its gonna have to look better in the next game when we have airship
What is Zack's area like?
Wow. Midgar is truly to scale then?
Dude didn't show us the slums and Wall Market......
Midgar on rebirth is not 1:1 scale. I feel they miniaturize it. When you play in midgar on remake, you will feel the city is very large. I dont get that sense here.
Overall all region in rebirth are miniaturized. The world feel too small. Though i feel they did very good job in masking it
Would've loved a character nearby for scale
@@coolguychecker7329 Yeah I noticed that too.
so sick!
no mans sky, nice
150gb...
PS1 Shinra building model had more detail..
I suspect this is a modified mesh of the model of midgar we see when visiting shinra tower in remake.
Now i understand why my game can't reach smooth 120 fps on world map. 😅
yep as i thought most of the map work is already done!!
Didn't the center building get destroyed in remake?
Only on the other side of the rift, the destruction translated to Zack's timeline but in the main timeline the building is fine and we see Rufus in it a couple of times
What camera mod are you using for this?
It's the FFVII HOOK - INI and dev console unlocker mod. Enabledebugcamera is the console command to activate the free cam.
@@LeonSKennedyRE4 Thank you. I've found it and have been having a field day getting good footage with it.
im playing ff15 parts of the map are restricted including large fenced off areas. so you cant explore the whole map
midgar just shrank into ps1 size
just hope they bring some dlc's while we wait for playstation 6
This is extremely cathartic. Seeing the place where many journeys in Final Fantasy began, in the engine of a game where even more journeys began. And (here's hoping) will continue to flourish for many years to come.
(I play World of Warcraft, but I encourage and cheer on this MMO's growth and prosperity.)
this is a FF7 remake, not the MMO FF14
What are you smoking? This has nothing to do with an MMO
I want to explore more of Midgar in it's entirety, more areas in the slum to the top portion to the the main building, I want to drive a car around the city's highways.
"very low poly" *plays original ff7*
It is to bad the midgar region has been cut out of the game as Rebirth should have started when the leave the city of midgar.
It wasn't cut, you where only able to return to Midgar earlyest in the Original FF7 after the Mideel Event, which still has to come in Part 3 of the Remake.
Least they actually made a 3d midgar this time and not just use a 2d image background like in remake. That shit was so cheap looking
Hope they ditch the minigames in part 3, there's even one for picking mushrooms, also chadley needs to be thrown in hot lava
The side quests are colon cancer giving tedium and need reworking
Okay zoomer real edgy and cool
