    The bruiser is the ultimate original king. Your in a small group of owners . Pretty cool icon. I've had 2 and honestly they can still hold there own with any production rc kit. Change the tires and set up the suspension and it's a 40 year old design that is still capable. Just iconic

    I won this model in 1986 from a local hobby shop. I was 10 years old at the time, and built it with no help. The truck gave hours of entertainment. I see these listed on Amazon for 800 or so, tempted but quite costly to relieve childhood memories.

    I wanted one of these so badly as a kid, but it was just too expensive for my parents. I'm really tempted to buy this kit, but one of the things that attracted me to it, was that it was built like a tank! With the change from metal differential gears to plastic, it makes me wonder how well those will hold up against a really powerful electric motor, or if you could get a gas engine for it.

    Why do people think this is a crawler or a trail truck? Per 80’s Tamiya literature, the Bruiser is a truck “built in the spirit of Southern California mud bog tucks.” One would think the motto Hog Heaven, with a Hog in mud and a halo, would give it away 🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️

    • @ericwood2790
      @ericwood2790 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Golden Manuever probably because that’s what you see are mostly crawlers nowadays, back in the 80s it was monster trucks .

    Is this model go from 2wd to 4wd

    • @RCRetro
      @RCRetro  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a 3 speed transmission. So yes. Off the top of my head I can’t remember what the 3 speeds are but I do know two of them are 2wd and 4wd. Not sure the 3rd. Possibly 2wd or 4wd low…

  • @skeetermcswagger0U812
    @skeetermcswagger0U812 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah this thing is definitely not that much of a Rock Crawler..... it's more or less a highy realistic scale radio controlled vehicle that does mud and snow really well and the occasional rock crawling.
    In addition the little it can do in the rock is not very linear or precise and it's kind of rough on the truck considering the steering servo is in the bed and there's a long metal rod that actually connects that servo to the front steering knuckle.
    Basically it should be compared to buying a Toyota Hilux pick up truck off the showroom floor throwing a big V-8 engine between the frame rails,bolting on lift, 40" tires, and trying to go Off-Roading with it.
    It's 100% just like that!!!

  • @brucelevall2925
    @brucelevall2925 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Having trouble with the bruiser transmission not shifting into the gears I’ve took the transmission apart like five times now and I can’t figure out why it’s not shifting gears

    • @RCRetro
      @RCRetro  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I took mine apart at least 2 times when building it over a year ago. All I remember is something about the little balls LOL... I know that sounds silly... When holding the built transmission in my hand, the rod was locked up and not moving or sliding in and out. That was after the first time building it. Then I took the whole thing apart maybe 2 more times carefully going over each part and crossing it out in the manual with a pencil. Each time it did the same thing... The rod would lock up and not shift or slide back in. Then I dropped the tranny In the chassis connected the servo to it with the radio gear and it started to shift from 2wd low to high and 4wd. works now.... did you try it out with the servo's yet?

    • @brucelevall2925
      @brucelevall2925 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RCRetro it took it apart more than 5times transmission case broke the first time where the single bearing goes at end of the shaft that is facing the motor

    If u have to wait until spring to paint a RC body for me it would be time to move a little further down south! Because that's just ridiculous! There's no way I would live in an environment like that! And if I did. I would make me a booth with a vent system if it was just a dryer vent pipe with a box and AC filter. That or build me a shed outside with a heater inside of it.
