Starting last season, i no longer trust metrics from years prior. The game is getting more and more unpredictable. I'd much rather just watch the game as it happens. At this rate, we may have a few unpredictable seasons over the next few years. Talents, skillsets and chemistry are rising at a rate that hasnt been seen in thr past and the new rules makes it so that dynasties are impossible to reach 5 years+ together. GSW may have been the last. I won't be surprised if a couple of small market teams alternate in winning the chip for the next 10-15 years.

Normally, I would say that AGE IS A DETERMINING FACTOR, but this Thunder team spreads the ball around to many teammates. They don’t conform to a model that leverages only a few players for success, instead they relay on depth to achieve success horizontally. They are less likely to struggle because all top 10 of their roster can put up double digits and they all play efficiently on both sides of the court. They do have some weakness but with home court and matchups that don’t appear to be heavily stacked against them, they are in a good position to make it deep into the playoffs. Likely matchups are: Pelicans, Mavericks / Clippers, Nuggets / Timberwolves, and Celtics. The Thunder are above or equal to 500 against all of these teams this season. Pelicans (3-1), Mavericks (3-1), Clippers (2-1), Nuggets (3-1), Timberwolves (2-2), Celtics (1-1). The couple teams they struggled with are the Lakers, 76ers, and the Pacers, which they are not likely to play if Denver takes care of the Lakers and the Celtics do what everyone believes they will do in the post season. So, give them a watch and judge for yourself. Even if you don’t believe they can win, I think you’ll find that they are the MOST ENTERTAINING team to watch.
theyre gonna be a very tough team to beat, but playoff basketball is a whole different animal. i wouldn't at all be surprised by a conference finals run or even a championship run, but the pressure is gonna get to these guys at some point and OKC is gonna have to hope that they hold up through it
Oh ok, what rules are different? .... What extra skill do older players get in the finals? Surely you're not suggesting okc will forget how to play. 🤣🤣
I can imagine that ‘lack of experience’ can be a factor during unfamiliar situations, when stress and fatigue is high. So, a LeBron wouldnt be phased and would probably know how to handle himself, young people are still in the process of figuring that stuff out.
People can argue that this team is young and still has much to learn, BUT they are runner ups for a title right now. They swept the pelicans, one seeded over the nuggets and the t-wolves. imagine this team in 5 years…
I wouldn’t say it’s impossible for the Thunder to make a Finals run, but we’ve never seen (at least personally) a team this inexperienced and young in the playoffs make it all the way. Maybe this year is the year, but I’m keeping my expectations low
The problem of figuring out whether the Thunder can win isn't a coding problem. It isn't even a maths problem. It's a very old philosophy problem. Ancient Romans used to wonder what the chances were of finding a swan that was black, given that every swan they'd ever seen so far was white. On the one hand, the probability was zero, because there had been zero sightings of black swans and millions of sightings of white swans, and 0/1000000 = 0. But on the other hand, who knew if they'd seen every swan? Perhaps a black swan might exist somewhere and it's just that they hadn't discovered that part of the world yet? That's why when Dutch sailors bumped into Western Australia in the 1600s and found actual black-coloured swans, the philosophy community had a hearty chuckle. The same thing is going on with the Thunder. Can an NBA team win a championship with a team that has a weighted age of 22.7? On the one hand, no, because zero teams have won it at such a young age in all 75 or so seasons, and 0/75 = 0. But on the other hand, have we seen every season? No. In summary, this is not a question we can answer using maths.
This Thunder team has heard that too young shit for a while now tbh, and finally they can put this bulletin board material to work and prove ppl wrong. They can’t wait to tell y’all it don’t matter
The only issue I see the Thunder facing is more likely the lack of experience at the start of the season but then they traded for Gordon Hayward which provides a vertern to the them which I think will help develop the thunder to possible winning this season championship. But this season championship could be anything goes with abunch of teams doing amazing
Anyone who says the Thunder aren’t capable of making a playoff push because of their age… haven’t watched the Thunder play this year. Yeah, they could crash and burn and get swept in the first round. But there would be no shame in that. Making the playoffs this early in their “rebuild” is just icing on the cake this season. So no, Thunder fans don’t care what anyone says about our chances. We’re just happy with our progress so far. Way ahead of schedule.
And giddey is actually the youngest of the starting 5 (3rd youngest in the team)... he'll be younger than most rookie draft picks next year, and he'll be a 3 year veteran.
Playoff experience does matter, even before Steph Curry won in 2015 he was battling against elite veterans and losing for years to Spurs. SGA does have some playoff experience which is probably why it looks like they could make a run. Another stat you should have incorporated is : In the last 5-10 years how often has the first place team in either division won the finals??
Age aside, I think what we're really talking about is experience, and experience is really important, especially when it comes to the playoffs. As NBA fans, we are all wondering whether or not OKC have the emotional stability to claw a playoff game back when they're down 20. To claw a series back when they're down 3, zip. To keep shooting when their shot isn't falling. To keep their cool under immense pressure and be able to adjust on the fly when the game plan isn't working. Every person on this planet develops these abilities to various degrees, but the one thing we all have in common is that we all develop these abilities with time. It's weird, but I'd have more confidence in OKC if they won a game 6 or 7 on their way to the conference finals, than if they won every series within 5 games. Because then I'd know that they were able to adjust and will their way to a must win. Add to that the ability to be able to play hard while minimizing the risk of injury, there's is so many things that comes with experience that we, as OKC fans, are worried they don't have. We're hoping though 💯
In the Playoffs, the nerves go high, the pressure is havier, andmuch older teams know how to deal with it better. Unfortunately. Cause I like the OKC chances.
history is being rewritten quite often nowadays tbh, heat last season were the first 8 seed ever to get to the finals so i would not put it past this thunder team to win a ring this year, even if they dont they have such a good young core who honestly seem better than the young core with kd russ and harden, they'll be back
NBA runs on salary cap rules. OKC has definitely one of the best teams of this season with so much talent on rookie contracts. They have 5 players who should / will earn 30-50 M$/yr each. Still, some other teams have maybe slightly better superstars. The idea that age or experience is determining championships is just stupid. The best teams are almost equally good, and chance is a major factor in these series.
I don't think age matters as much today. Defense isn't really important anymore, which is something that is typically honed through experience. Today's nba is almost exclusively about offense. Heck, that's how LeBron managed to weasel his way into the conversation on defensive awards even though he's mediocre since he left Miami when it comes to defense. So if great defense isn't necessary, then a young, efficient scoring team has a good shot.
Yes, this is a team all for 1 and 1 for all mentality they are going to be hard to beat. Dorture Chamber is taking somebody's best player out of the game and now teams have to figure out how to win without that star.
So tired of hearing everyone claiming their team is “the best in the West” when the Thunder, Nuggets and Twolves have been trading spots all season. Swear to god every day I watch a video that claims OKC or Minnesota are “#1 in the Western Conference” but I look it up and they’re actually 3rd by the time the video is published and gaining traction. None of them are definitively the best team in the Western conference, even when they’re on top. The Celtics are the only team in the NBA that are clearly the best in any and almost every metric.
this is quite literally the toughest conference in nba HISTORY statistically. The fact Thunder are even up there is insane and should heavily be noted and not overlooked.
The question is how many teams as young or younger than OKC had the best record in their conference. I bet is hasn't ever happened, which is why a team that young hasn't won a chip. My gut is that "experience" is relatively unimportant and that old heads just think it matters without ever having looked at the data.
All the nay saying and doubting should encourage this young team to prove em wrong! When they win the western conference OKC will be on fire, the residents won't know how to act, Especially if the thunder bulldog their way to the world championship!
Age doesn't mean much in this case. They all grew up playing the same kind of basketball so it makes sense that the team clicks so well
