Great video, two things though. Number 1, level 3a body armor wont protect against a rifle round like a .223 or 5.56. Number 2, while rifles are not standard issue across the board, a large percentage of officers do carry them. Shotguns are also extremely common, and can be (with the right ammo) quite devastating at the ranges in this incident

The .38 special round that hit Matix on the left side of his head, flattened out and fractured his skull. This shot did knock out the murderer and he fired no further shotgun shells. He regained concouness and joined Platt in the cop car but were shot by Mireles before the car could be started. The 9mm 115 grain Winchester Silvertip hollow point that entered Platt's arm and then into his chest stopped 1/4 of an inch short of his aorta. It did drop his lung and the chst cavity filled with blood. It was not a survivable wound. No alcohol, cocaine or other drugs were found on autopsy. The men had been trained in the USMC and US Army extensively. The pair had the will power to continue to fight. The round carried in the six shot .357 magnum was the .38 special 158 grain lead semi-wadcutter hollow point. The same round would have been carried in the five shot .38 special model 36 or 60. This was the St. Louis load, FBI load or Miami load. Although speed loaders for revolvers were readily available, they were not issued or carried by agents at this time. Rock pits can great places to set up a range because you already have a composite berm surrounding you.
