No surprise here, for those who don’t know, the original G1 prime has ALL these features like chrome parts, die-cast metal parts, real rubber tires, and of course the thermals-sense color-changing autobots badge! The real new gimmick is the flexible joints!
Most of the people watching this already know about G1 Optimus Prime, he is literally one of if not the most well-known transformers toy and character.
Compared to most G1 he really wasn't a brick. You couldn't pose the legs as he wouldn't stand but he had knee, leg, arm, and elbow joints. The transformation gave you pivots on the arms and you could rotate the hands.
I had the original Prime decades ago. I would have been ALL over this if they did all the commemorative/resiues like this back in 2002-2006 (pre-classics), but I'm fine with Kingdom Prime and look forward later this year to Studio Series 86 Prime💯
Ultra Magnus missing link would be very interesting. The complete magnus armor pretty much was a giant brick with arms in which you put a Prime figure. Giving that proper articulation sure would be a challenge.
Ya know, when Optimus can jump in truck mode into robot, I wonder where the spin the waist modern takes have came from. It would help disguise the legs better, especially if they transform the feet.
In September of 1984 Transformers just exploded in popularity. The cartoon had just debuted and was all the talk amongst the boys in my grade 4 class. I still remember coming back after Christmas break in January of 1985 and most everybody brought their new Transformers to school. The holy grails of course, were the bigger toys, like Optimus Prime, Megatron, Starscream, and Soundwave. Of course, I only got a Windcharger that year. Lol. Just imagine bringing this updated missing link version to school back in 1984, we would have gone crazy with excitement.
I want that figure too. Did you read skybounds transformers comic’s yet because they are awesome, and you’ll find some bay verses call backs thrown in there that you will love.
They even referenced _Rise of the Beasts_ with the death of Bumblebee in Issue 1. Unlike _Rise of the Beasts_ though, his death seems to be permanent. And to this day, I'm appalled that they killed off Bumblebee right then and there.

Good video and very excellent analysis sir. This Optimus prime is the holy grail of all transformers. I brought 1not 2 but 3😮 l had to. The missing link c1 Optimus prime is one best of any toy made. I had to pull the trigger on 3. My wallet will is hurting 😢now. Takara need to do Megatron, prowl, Jazz and Bluestreak.

You seem to forget that most of the Transformers figures from 1984-1985 were imports of Japanese figures. For example: Soundwave from the Micro Change toyline and Sunstreaker from the Diaclone toyline

This isn’t the first cartoon colours on the G1 Optimus. There was a New Year Convoy that was the first with show colours and had a diecast Matrix designed for it. It also came with a show colours Action Master Optimus.
And you can use the trailer from the Wal-Mart exclusive 40th Anniversary Optimus Prime toy that's coming out later this year... Sorry, but the trailer that came with the C-01 version has to be used with the C-01 figure...

This costs $70 without a trailer and $110 with one. Meanwhile the G1 reissue with the trailer is going for $50 on eBay. I don't really understand the appeal of a well-articulated version of that janky design when you can get the reissue for much cheaper.
This wouldve been cool when i collected these as a kid 40 years ago. 40 years too late for me. I Cant go back after all the modern versions that have been produced.
I had the original G1 from 1984, the inner kid wishes I still had him but this is 20x better than the original. I think I lost his hands within a week of owning him haha

I ordered and got the C-01 'L Optimus with trailer. Much more worth it because it look like the original G1 that came to life. I adore those sticker details on the bot that are 3D and painted. Plus the new feature of the trailer is cool.
It's likely I won't be seeing this figure at any of the retail stores in my area due to Hasbro being chincy. Also, as for a Missing Link Megatron figure; sorry, but airport customs says no.

probably will NEVER get an upgraded G1 megatron to go with this guy, sadly. Not in this day of age. Would have been sick, But doubtful. The last gun transformer if i recall, was that nerf gun megatron. Since then theyve only done Tank megatrons and called him "g1". 🙃

What's the big deal with rubberized tires? I am lucky enough to own the 2001 RID Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus and some of those tires have already fallen apart, even while the rest of the figure remains in good shape.
if this was shown back in the ‘80s id imagine hasbro (or whoever paid for the production of the G1 toys back in the day) would pay whoever brought the toy to them a SIGNIFICANT amount of money in order to study it and then apply it to the G1 toys in the future
Looks good enough with in hand video to make me regret not having space for him on my shelf or in my budget, though seriously the last thing I need is yet another Optimus Prime no matter how nostalgic. I'm not a fan of die-cast, precisely because I remember how much those original toys chipped and rubbed paint off at any edge or corner, but the modern articulation is awesome and if you'd showed it to my younger self it absolutely would have blown my tiny little mind. I wonder if you can slot him into the original Ultra Magnus trailer armor? That helmet would be the ultimate test of G1 head sculpt accuracy;' also the one part that needs significant modification to fit onto the old Classics OP mold to use the trailer with that Target exclusive white-OP UM that came in a two-pack with Classics Skywarp.
