Ape Escape 1 was not only innovative for having the collectible being these unique monkeys that all have personalities and requiring strategy to capture - it came at a time where true analog controls (especially in 3D games) were a VERY new concept for home consoles. Most games were trying to figure out just how to do d-pad controls, but with a stick. When I was growing up, I remember getting a DualShock for my PS1 and yet I'd still play Crash Bandicoot with the d-pad. Ape Escape came up with something entirely new, a unique way to use the stick not just to move, but to use your gadgets, with natural motions that translate to what's going on onscreen. Ape Escape 2 refined the overall presentation, but instead of strange and unique locales, the game just has a larger number of smaller levels with fairly generic themes. I found the game to be so incredibly tedious that I could not bring myself to fire up Ape Escape 3. Sometimes it really is just better to leave you wanting more and just end it at that.
Are we just going to forget that the planet was destroyed at the end of the gex 2 review? The fact that no effort has been made to address how our protagonist survived and made another review is maddening. Like, genuinely, I am on the floor, kicking and crying at this betrayal. LMAO.
when I got my ps2 randomly for free from my family a couple of years ago I had ape escaped pirated on it…well all the games were pirated it was from another family from the 2000’s and their ps2 ended up to us. Ape escape didn’t work and I still don’t know what it’s about
I beat this game long ago. Shit was trash. The first one is by far the best. 3 is also really good, but not as good. 2 was trying to be Pokemon. Surprised you didn’t notice it.
