I think that the single biggest stage in a reno is when it is finally watertight. No more leaks, a dry interior. No further decay. What a milestone you are about to hit. ( OK there are probably still leaky windows but ….. do-able). What a joy. 🇦🇺
Thanks Kate - we can feel this milestone getting closer...
I am happy for you. What a journey!
A big problem is gonna be the fungi and spores, mould in the air🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉prob start with air filtration, keep the water, humidity, temperature all stable remove dust🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Fabulous!! It’s a thing of beauty indeed. I can’t wait to see that completed roof. It’s the most dramatically beautiful part of the building! Great work team.
Thank you for your message - we can't wait to share further progress!
Wowza! Can see why you’re so excited. Those stone masons are wonders.
You bloody fair dinkum legends! As a Frenchman with an Australian citizenship, I am in admiration of your work, your passion and your love for this piece of French history. I can't believe (and I am somewhat shocked) that it took two Aussies to rescue this magnificient place. Thank you, thank you. I will endeavour to visit once you finally open the doors.
The roof is such splendid work ! It’s a sculpture
Congratulations on having the canopy covering the last section of the old roof. You won't know what to do with no rain coming in the chateau anymore...lol!! I am so happy for you and for the chateau....all so exciting with everything going on.....love it!!!
This such a beautiful thing you are doing ... on so many levels. Good on you. Colorado Cherri
Good job, great progress! Love the show and restoration. I am hoping that you have photos of the property taken in the 1050s. I was born in 1951 and I’d like to see the Chateau from that time period. Looking forward to your next video…
Purnon is waking up so very beautifully . I love seeing her rising out of the decay and yes rain . How very marvelous she is !!
The finished section of roof with its stunning curves always puts a smile on our face. We assume a dry moat must be a first line of defence? All the best with your weather, we've had our first snow. Brrrrrrrrr. M&R
Apparently one of its functions would have been access for staff to come and go from the building without being seen from ground level.
Thank you for sharing another wonderful video today, much love from our home to your home 🫶😊
Wow, I didn't realize the moat walls and cellars would get restored so soon!
Your excitement over the beginning of the last portion of the roof repair had me grinning in sympathy with you.
We look forward to a ceremonial Removal of the Buckets from the top floor!
What a legacy for centuries to come. Bravo!
Thank you!
What an amazing work of art for all the artisans. Would love to know the cost of all the steps. ❤❤❤
Such respect for you both. Thank you for sharing your journey.
It’s Sunday morning here in Ct and I’m starting my day here
Amazing progress. 👏
Bet you are excited about getting the rest of the roof done! Well done looking Great!
1) you channel has made me a great admirer of French stone masons, true artisans
2) your color grading skills for drone footage has improved significantly, true treat for the eyes to see the new footage, kudos!
3) great recap of the week, so much progress despite the torrential rains
It's easy to forget how bad the roof was, until you see the unrestored part up close. Fabulous work.
This is a grand task you have Taken so gracefully. Congratulations for the wonderfull results😊
Thank you! We're thrilled you're enjoying our journey.
The completed roof look so nice!!!
So much amazing progress!
Even under the scaffolding she is beautiful! I am in love with this beautiful bldg and her surrounds! Incredible job!I am interested in how the moat functioned...
It seems to me that the Châeau became a place for the people during the Revolution. After all, it was built during the this time period. So then out of necessity and survival, this place became somewhere for the villagers to live and have comraderie. It was a place that had abundance. look at the size of the Bread oven and all the out buildings The Château may have started out as opulence, but it then became something bigger than the owner. Just like you two, our legacy is not what we take from the journey, it's what we give back.
Excellent update, it gives one exhilarating hope for the entire project. The fact that you and the architect are joined at the hip on this project fundamentally ensures success. I lift a glass to your efforts.
Thank you for your message!
Just imagining how great a relief it will be when the roof can be a roof and not a sieve. The work this week is a visual reward for all the planning and preparation by you and your team. I can hear the joy in your voices at the progress. Well done.
What an exciting time for you. I particularly love the outbuildings and to see the dry moat walls with all their little caves getting restored is wonderful. Watching you sitting on the bridge steps I wonder what was on the little pillars either side of you? .. looks like something missing topped those stone mounds?
Going great guns. So exciting. I was wondering that thought exactly. How did they achieve all of this with only manual labour and tools? Suppose they used horses and sleds to move heavy things around. Wonder what those original artisans would make of all of this machinery today? No wonder people lived shorter lives back then. So much more manual must have taken its toll.
It's all so impressive 😊
Another fabulous episode showing the progress on so many aspects of the buildings and property.
If I may suggest, it would be well worthwhile to acquire either the services of a local farmer with a flail mower on his tractor or buy one for maintaining the many acres of grounds you have. The flail mower will radically reduce the amount of time to cut away overgrowth of vegetation.
best restoration channel ever
It’s great! Amazing work. Check out Escape to Rural France! Also amazing.
The final section! How exciting! I wonder how it was determined where to start. Most in need?
This is an exciting stage isn't it? Last stage for the roof? Wow, what an accomplishment! Interesting to see the work on the dry moat being done. Excited to see what it will look like when it is completed!
So exciting!
Thank you! Exciting for us too!
Giving you just some heads up on the weather situation, please be aware that by Wednesday the remnants of Hurricane Kirk will arrive at your area. Possible strong rain. Harold.
Building a Chateau "new" was a relatively simple thing..... It's maintaining, repairing and restoring the structure that makes it complicated.
Like a game of Jenga, you need to be planning ahead
It might be one of the reasons that Purnin was allowed to deteriorate to that point
Loved the excitement in your voice Felicity 😊
How did they do that back then?....Is indeed a question many have wondered. Beautiful restoration, Loving seeing the progress.
Thrilled you enjoyed it!
If they say Storm Helene is coming ...duck! She was a bad storm here.
North Carolina? Hope you're OK. We consider ourselves warned!
Not sure how all that work got done without Supervisor Truffe being on duty!
Крыша делается в первую очередь, чтобы не заливало
When this huge project is done, will you still get support to maintain this massive estate?
No, the maintenance will be, quite properly, our responsibility.
Wow!
I’m curious to know where the kitchen is? Also what was the dry moat used for? Is it all cobblestone under the current grass? Was it used as a garden for the kitchen?
On the bridge were there statues? It looks like there once was but they broken and worn. Will you replace/repair/restore them? Also what were they originally?
Yes, they were originally statues. We go into further detail about them on our Patreon video this week.
👏👏👏
Those old lime stones were clearly prone to deterioration and get really ugly over time, I wonder if the new blocks were maybe made more weather resistant.
So where in France is the chateau and was it in the path of war In WWII
I can’t recall, was a drainage system installed in the moat?
what was the purpose of the moat (with the vaults) and bridge originally?
How is this affordable?
Du mauvais temps vont arrivè cette semaine. Faites attention
When it rains a lot, does water settle in the dry moat, or is there a drainage system to evacuate the water?
There are two water evacuation systems - one, partly covered, dating from the construction of the chateau and one installed at the end of the 19th century when the level of the dry moat was raised by about 30 centimetres (about 12 inches). Rain water in the moat clears pretty quickly.
Thanks, and interesting that the level was raised. I'm still catching up on older videos, so I look forward to finding out about that. I'm restoring my small 1920s home but of course it's nothing like the scale of your project. :)
What are you going to do with all the extra time you will have now, given that you don't have to run around checking buckets? 🤣😂🤣It will be nice to get a good night's sleep during storms. Then again there are windows.....
Sell old tiles for donations.American people would like them
