About the song:
Parson's Farewell is one of the most popular dances, published in the dance manual ”The English Dancing Master” by the famous John Playford in 1651.
The origins of this melody are unknown, as there are various versions, titles and arrangements that can be found in many European countries. Early versions appear in ”Nederlandtsche Gedenck-Clanck”by Adriaen Valerius (1626, as "La Boree"), in ”Friesche Lusthof” by J.J. Starter (1621) and the book ”Thysius Lute” (c. 1600). Also come out in French in a lute collection by Nicolas Vallet entitled ”Secret des Muses” (1615) as ”Bouree d'avignon”, in the Skene Manuscript (c. 1615, no. 14) under the title ”Ostend”, as ”La Bourée” in ”Terpsichore” by Michael Praetorus (1612, no. 32) and as ”Stil, stile en reys” in ”Der Fluyten Lusthof”by Jacob van Eyck.
Parson's Farewell was danced long after Playford's death, even in the 19th century, and is still set to a very recognizable melody, played by many early music bands and danced at many 17th century festivals and at early dance festivals.

Parson's Farewell to jeden z najbardziej znanych tańców dawnych, wydany w podręczniku tańca "The English Dancing Master" przez sławnego Johna Playforda w 1651 roku.
Geneza tego utworu nie jest do końca znana, bo różne jego wersje, tytuły i aranżacje znaleźć można w wielu krajach Europy zachodniej, środkowej i północnej. Wczesne jego wersje pojawiają się w „Nederlandtsche Gedenck-Clanck” Adriaena Valeriusa (1626, jako „La Boree”), w „Friesche Lusthof” J.J. Startera (1621) i książce „Thysius Lute” (ok. 1600). Pojawił się też we Francji w kolekcji Nicolasa Valleta zatytułowanej „Secret des Muses” (1615) jako „Bouree d’avignon”, w Rękopisie Skene (ok. 1615, nr 14) pod tytułem „Ostenda”, a także jako „La Bourée” w „Terpsichore” Michaela Praetoriusa (1612, nr 32) i jako „Stil, stile en reys” w „Der Fluyten Lusthof” Jacoba van Eycka.
Parson’s Farewell był tańczony jeszcze długo po śmierci Playforda, nawet w XIX wieku i do dziś jest on melodią bardzo rozpoznawalną, graną przez wiele zespołów muzyki dawnej i tańczoną na niejednym festiwalu XVII-wiecznym oraz na festiwalach tańca dawnego.
