My 2015 MacBook Air's fan was left disconnected for about 5-6 months. I only realized this when I was using a CPU performance tool that the fan wasn't coming on. There was some sluggishness but it wasn't horrible and I work with alot of tabs, plays games, watch videos etc, use a second monitor, etc. After installing the fan it still barely ever kicks on but at least its running at its base speed instead of nothing. I was was very surprised that it held up without a fan for so long without bogging down. So I think Apple's cooling solution is adequate.
Hey, have an idea for how the fans work..
Since there are 2 air vents, the fan sucks in the cool air which passes through the CPU, then blows the hot air out. Sure, its not the best way, but I do see changes in intel power gadget. The temp will stay at 100 during heavy tasks but the performance is higher :))

What was your previous OS? I had a friend who moved from Linux to OSX. He loves it but he can't really tell why. I like how it's a middle ground between windows and Linux but I really hate some design choices.

@@HalloweenJoni99 I've been annoyed with all the reviews that Linus has criticized screens for not being 4k or 1440p in a laptop. He's relaxed on it a lot through 2019. Look back at early 2019 though.
In my humble opinion, 1440p is plenty for up to 14" displays, 1600p fine for 15", and I'd want 4k in a 17 or 18" luggable/laptop desktop replacement.

I have a 2008 Mac Pro that I upgraded, and I can run Sildurs Vibrant Shaders in Minecraft at 80 FPS. (I'm primarily using Windows 10 and sometimes High Sierra)
Edit: Minecraft with optifine without shaders gives me about 300 FPS

Apple is really the worst designer of laptops, and it baffles me how they can put out such middle of the road products but still charge a premium.
And folks can claim MacOS is the reason, but Linus own defense of MacOS vs Windows cuts both ways: the air is NOT a production device, it's a consumer one...
So why... oh why... would you ever pay that much for a facebook machine?
Actually if you get the dual core it's likely unable to handle Facebook well.

@Ther Ther magsafe is patented, but the existence of older (and current) magnetic connectors gives some leeway in how the patent is applied. basically Microsoft had an army of engineers and lawyers working together to make a magnetic connector that does not go against the apple patent.

The difference between apple and other companies is that 3 for 4 years down the line their products still function like brand new . Where as every other companies products feel like a 2005 PC trying to run GTA 5. my HP laptop( I5 ) legit had to load/ process my shutdown request for 10 seconds before it started powering down,and this was only 2 years in.
I'm waiting on the 2021 laptops from Apple to upgrade my laptop because atm my HP is still as or more powerful than most builds of MacBook pros under $2000 for less money

a mac is always cheaper, it doesn'T matter what it costs, it keeps it's value based on its new price and you can sell it after 5 or 7 years while any windows machine will fail in the first 3 years

@@Unexpectedstuff I have a wacom pen, and my touch screen lets me take notes with it. I don't need to use paper anymore and it lets me directly write onto pdf files for my classes so I don't have to take photos of my work for a class like Pre-Calculus. Plus I hate trackpads so I prefer to scroll with the screen. Zooming in with my fingers is also a great bonus!
@@Unexpectedstuff I will often reach forward to use my touch screen to zoom in or out on an image, PDF or office file to get the desired content to fit my screen more precisely than my trackpad can; tap on the screen to pause or play a video; or open or dismiss a notification.
While it's not much, I really miss being able to interact directly with the screen when on a non-touch device.

Got the M1 MacBook Air as an upgrade over the 2017 HP Spectre and absolutely loving it. Doesn’t run hot or loud at all (Spectre did both), keyboard is amazing, monitor is fantastic, speakers are far better, and performance even for basic tasks is better as well. Editing photos in Lightroom is ridiculously smooth! Not to mention the trackpad is just so much better than HP’s which uses the lacklustre Synaptics drivers.

@Code Bunny I feel like it fits Linux best. With all of the tiling window managers that are based on dividing your screen into grid, snapping feels like a move to make it more mouse friendly.
But on the other hand windows was the last one to get the ability to create multiple desktops so there was the biggest need for a feature like this.
I like apples version. It’s more time consuming but it is neater looking since it opens up the 2 apps in a new window.

macos has windows snapping. you can snap any window using the green full screen button, and like with windows after you snapped one you can click another app to fill in the other half.

@@8roma8 it means a lawsuit in order to stop the use of the window snapping feature is a waste of time and only serves to hurt the microsoft brand. it's because its a feature coded by a community and is also non-profit. finding the "real" author of the code is a problem, and the backlash of attacking an opensource community is another.

Came to say this. I have a Windows desktop but like having a MacBook too. I would literally never think "oh I could get a DELL instead??" when replacing it and I extra doubt anyone dead-set on a Mac would either.

Ward my 2019 macbook air works perfectly fine. I use it for school work and light video editing every now and then. Does the job great. The battery life is amazing, the display is nice, and the speakers are one of the best in a laptop. If i want performance, i just use my gaming rig at home. Can’t expect insane performance out of an ultra book my guy...

Not really true. I am looking for a laptop and I can choose between windows and mac. Nowadays windows 10 is decent enough and can be valid choice, especially for people who use specific software that does not work well on macos. So the comparison made in the video is actually pretty valid, as my example shows (I am trying to decide between those models).

Yea, I lol'd hard on this one. Almost every MMO out there is pure P2W talking about how it is essentially F2P and "microtransactions" are optional and "non-breaking the game balance" (ny ass). And I'm not talking about bit titles like WOW, noo. Years ago I've played Cabal. One of this "essentially free" MMOs. Just for the heck of it. And yes, you could play for free. I've been playing from relative beginning to the time where level cap was around 180 or so and between start and let's say level 100 you could take it easy.
But then... man... maps started to be just too stretched so you either was walking/dashing for 20 minutes straight, or buy a mount. But decent one as just expensive as f*ck so you either were grinding like a madman to gain ingame currency or... buy one from the store for real money effectively skipping month of hardcore grinding. But here's another problem- if you dedicated yourself to grind... your inventory is so small that it fills up almost instantly. So then you had again 2 choices- either TP back to starting point with merchant to sell crap (and optionally TP even further back to action house to sell more expensive and rare things) which you would do non stop or just select what you don't want and deconstruct it to materials prolonging the unavoidable travel to merchant/action house. Either ways- you could TP back, but not TP back-back to front line so another 20 minutes dashing was ahead. Fun stuff, ain't it? All of this... or look, there's that one tiny thing on game site- this one, inventory expansion, just buy it, look, it's not so costly...
I guarantee you- by the time you end up in late game you'll be like 95% of players- either throw this game out of your drive or buy these mentioned thingies. Back then when I was still active I personally knew 1 player that let's say "ended game" and refused to buy any of these mounts/extra inventory slots. I knew him just because we were in the same guild taking part in the wars together.

What part of "never COME with macOS" did you not understand? Just because I can put a chevy small block in a miata doesn't mean miatas can come with a v8. And further more, a hackintosh laptop is difficult to set up if not impossible depending on the model, and will almost never fully work as it should. Even the hackintosh community will tell you if you want a mac buy one, a hack isn't ever going to be a genuine alternative to the real thing.

CPUs really can't handle high temps (superuser.com/a/749172), despite a lot of people trying to defend Apple. They run the CPUs close to the maximum capacity for temperature for their CPUs, and that maximum temperature isn't supposed to be a sustained temperature. They then have a kernel-level service that takes CPU power away from the rest of the system, effectively gimping the entire OS because they can't be bothered to have adequate cooling. They then have the audacity to essentially say it's just a natural thing (support.apple.com/en-gb/HT207359)

@@jub8891 the dell xps 13 comes in various configurations, I'd recommend you to look it up on their official website, if you're interested. I got mine off there. There's also the larger xps (15" I guess), which, of course, has a bigger price range
