    Started from one question to another, Great Sir because due to this we will not have that confusion that what is this and what is that, as you also know that these steering gear diagrams are very confusing due to their there symbols. Thankyou Sir.

    Very nice and up to the point explanation.
    Will you please explain what is difference between 2 vanes, 3vanes, 4 vanes? Why can't we use more than 3 vanes? Like 5 vanes, 6 vanes etc

    • @rmetcvideos
      @rmetcvideos  ปีที่แล้ว

      2 Vanes does the job. More vanes will add complexity.By increasing the vanes we may utmost increase the Torque handling capability...If the size restrictions are not there and we can do the job with 2 vanes -- why extra vanes with more comlexity??

    Hello Sir it's really a amazing video with great information., But I have a small doubt that when oil exerts the pressure on vane to move port the return oil has to pass through check valve and the check valve is actuated by the same oil which is used for turning but my doubt is that when the oil gets in check valve line there is a clear resistance free passage for oil to return to the tank and on the other side of the check valve there is pressure of return oil so how it is actuating the check valve instead of directly returning to the tank ??

    • @rmetcvideos
      @rmetcvideos  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The oil is returning resistance free..correct.. but the inllet oilTurning the vanes is full of pressure because the Physical Rudder is generating the resistance...This pressure can easily open the check valve

    • @rmetcvideos

      every steering gear needs to be hydraulically locked to retaijn the rudder position. It is already a part of this video. Hydraulic locks are also talked about in My earlier video on steering Gear Rules

    sir could you please tell me which is functioning as the bypass valve in the arrangement that you have shown? cuz i worked on a ship with rotary vane steering gear made by rolls royce. the circuit is almost the same. i have checked the instruction manual. i can't really figure out the bypass valve(being a cadet, haha). please sir help me

    • @rmetcvideos
      @rmetcvideos  ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not able to comprehend your question..BYPASS ..valve??Anway I will try ..The Pilot valve (4) in the center postion can be called BYPASSING or SHORT Circuiting..That is to Unload the pump when no control signal is given ..The other valve --on top- (6) -we are calling as SHock ABsorber..This also can be argued that it is Bypassing the OIL to the other side..Hope I have answered your question by accident Ha HA

    Sir, In framo system one oil heating valve is there which reduces the pressure of oil and due to this sudden reduction of pressure oil gets heated, can you please explain physics behind this that how oil gets heated if pressure on it relived suddenly.

    • @rmetcvideos
      @rmetcvideos  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Energy required to create a flow at any point in a hydraulic system is P(Pressure) x Q (Flowrate).SO pressure before the heating valve is more and Pressure after the heating valve is less. So Press diff x Flow Rate is the amount of heat generated

    Sir i have a doubt, what about the oil on the other half of the actuator, it has to escape back to the tank in order to facilitate smooth movement of ruuder without any hydraulic lock..how is it achieved?

    • @rmetcvideos

    Hi sir, normaly we fit filter on suction side of the pump, however, in hydraulic systems it is fitted on discharge side. Any particular reason for the same.

    • @rmetcvideos
      @rmetcvideos  ปีที่แล้ว

      we cannot fit filters on the suction side. AT best we can fit Strainers. Filters need to be about 10-20 Microns to be effectiv ein Hyd system which cannot be fitted in suction side since it will cause cavitation

      I guess --you are able to see--the Relief valve in Pump assembly and Shock Valves near the Actuator valve block

    How do we fill up oil ?? And how we remove air

    • @rmetcvideos
      @rmetcvideos  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most of the circuits with feed pumps have a self priming system.Operating the system on no load in either direction for a couple if times shud do the trick Additionally there are purge points.You can check up by operating them.

    • @rmetcvideos
      @rmetcvideos  ปีที่แล้ว

      we have Sealing Strips. These are available in YOuTube in some of the vidoes showing Ohaul of Rotary Vane steering gear ..

  • @mechanicalengineeringtutorials

    I think your circuit diagram explanation of the oil flow is wrong. If the rudder turns the way you have explained in the video, the ship will steer towards the starboard side.
