I can attest that Simichrome metal polish works amazingly on antique gold plating, will clean as much as the dremel without any danger of too much removal, just takes a little time and patience and a bunch of tiny rags. Once you've got the dirt broken down, just buff with one clean rag after another until it shines like new. Had fantastic results on about eight art deco period watches so far.
IF IT IS WORKING OR NOT BROKE----DONT FIX IT!!!! I HAVE A WATCH WITH A CRACK IN THE GLASS, I LIKE IT,,, AFTER 20 YEARS GIVES IT PERSONALITY, AND LET US SEE THE GLASS QUALITY, CAUSE HAS NO SRATCHES ON IT, ALMOST NAYONE.
Totally inappropriate for a plated article.
God, this guy loves the sound of his own voice
better than hating the sound of your own voice

Can't you use a brass or nylon brush?
Jeffrey Morrissey you can use a nylon brush but with the Dremel at a high speed it does not only clean but polish
Muslin wheels and red ruge will make that case brand new, Or at least ready to replate.
