Okay I understand the on-field officials calling it as it's a split second decision, but the fact that the guys upstairs lack the mental brain capacity to overturn these absolutely shocks me
Thanks, I was about to say the same. Unbelievable.
Can’t the refs overturn the guys upstairs though? There the ones that say the call.
The officials on the field have to call any helmet to helmet contact. Player repetitive injuries and the speed of the game force the on field Umps to make the call.
The problem is where the upstairs umps are drawing the line. Right now it's basically any helmet to helmet contact and you're gone. They really need to address this.
Benjamin Miiller if it’s a big hit fuck the guy that got hit, if it was my kid I’d say get hit or hit someone, football is a violent sport that’s like saying no punching in UFC, just keep it clean and if it’s ACTUALLY targeting then fuck that they shouldn’t be allowed to play.
Looked like good calls in every case. The announcers & some posters here sound like they've been whacked in the head once or twice, though.
7:44 the ref shaking his head says it all.
Kreate as a husker fan that is BS
Even the ref is like “What?”
The first and last are very questionable but the others were targeting by rule
Lol he pulled that flag
Jason Arruda you’re missing the point
That Michigan-Michigan State ruling was so insane. How in the world did the refs in the booth that were reviewing the play not catch that the guy was pushed into the ball carrier? This is getting so ridiculous.
i thought they were gonna call it on number 3. 3 should have gotten something there, but 35 didn't do anything
I don't think they even watch the games or replays anymore there's just to many bad calls in football
herogibson 3 shouldn't get anything. he was going for the tackle and the qb slide under him. completely legal.
ScrewedForTheCentury i know im late to this but your absolutly right should there be rules of course but the rules are getting so stupid i mean you have to wait for a receiver to get 2 or three steps after he catches the football (if im not mistaken) that alone speeks for itself
ScrewedForTheCentury i
At around 7:48 you can see the ref behind the coach disagreeing to the call
Nathan Barfknecht yeah he's like 'that's bs'
Nathan Barfknecht ii
Without a doubt. Even HE was like “You gotta be kidding me...”
Completely missed that. Wow. Whoever confirmed that call should've been investigated.
The Nebraska one is literally just how you're supposed to tackle someone
Hunter Campbell same with the BYU one at the beginning
When they zoom in on Nebraska’s coach the official behind him is shaking his head lol terrible rule can’t play football anymore
It's a textbook tackle. Horrible call.
Just a great all around football play. Terrible call, that's the review team just wanting to save the ass of the stupid ref who threw the flag
I would’ve have quit if I was that Nebraska player F that.
These boys have to remember that they are playing in the NCAA
No
Contact
Athletic
Association
Justin Pate NFL - No Fun League
Justin Pate LOL
Trojan this is college football
Also could be No Compensation Athletic Association.
Yeah when someone dies that will be just awesome fuckin dumbass
Nate gerrys was the worst
Cteamballa Yeah that was a horrible call
Nah the michigan vs state one was the worse
Chunky chode it was terrible. I was so pissed.
L it was the worst, at least we won that game
Michigan one was worse, Stevie wonder could've seen that
that nate gerry tackle really got me. it’s literally what you’re taught from middle school on for tackling. come up, break down, head up, and follow through... mind blowing, really.
the referee at 7:45 is like "wtf?"
Keith Youngblood RIGHT
shit, good catch
Keith Youngblood I saw that myself. I laughed at that.
Keith Youngblood I never saw a more clean play
Keith Youngblood I was so pissed when he got rejected. that was such bs.
You did a good job on pissing me off with this video, good job my friend👌🏾
Jack Pulse Thank you haha. That was the goal.
Modell Highlights dumbass refs I tell you hah
They need to penalize the damn offensive players for leading with their heads, how the hell are you supposed to tackle somebody without hitting them above the shoulders when they duck at the last second
I guess they are supposed to dropkick the ball carrier. it pisses me TF off!
Agree 1,000 percent!
The NCAA needs to do a comprehensive study of every "targeting" call. Most times when a defensive player is shorter and is tackled like the Nebraska game, and a helmet is grazed they get called for targeting. It's completely bull shit!
this video makes me hate NCAA referees
NCAA and the NFL both have terrible referees. It makes me not want to watch it.
srgfowler ikr
LOL, its the rules not the refs. Referees have a tough job. They all do their best. We need countless replays to figure it out, they only have one.
Yea, there are rules. But when there are refs to mess up the calls then it's their fault.
Come on...there's a reason nobody wants this to happen. You don't want to kill a football player by decapitating him. That would be bad.
7:45 the other ref even knows it's a bad call. He is shaking his head
Kris Weatherhead he's in as much disbelief as anyone else
at 3:21 dj smith did not know if the ball was caught so it wasn't his fault
How are any of these "referees" referees anynore? I can 100% understand making a questionable call first, they have split seconds to see and make a decision, it's not easy. However, they spend minutes rewatched it in slow motion, seeing the exact same things we do and they STILL uphold bad calls just so they don't have to be embarrassed backtracking. They need to be fired for putting their egos before the rules.
Apparently, you don't understand how the system works. It isn't the NFL where the referees on the field look at replays. It's a different set of refs looking at them.
Subangelis Gaming same thing though. The NCAA would rather have the call be confirmed and make their refs look good(because they hired them) then make them look bad by reversing their bad call.
The3rdID listen sir the refs make the original cal but the replay booth says hey that is targeting so it's not the refs fault
Targeting isn't black and white. I saw these in the gray area, it could have gone either way.
Subangelis Gaming How do you explain the first one?
It's should be the refs getting disqualified
lmao
Reaper Squad i
Wayne Gretzky whats "I" WHAT THE FUCK ARE U TALKING ABOUT
If you think about it, it gets reviewed upstairs so whomever is upstairs needs to be less of a yes man and make the right call
yeah i agree
The announcers are right at 7:08, it's getting ridiculous. It reminds me of the Southpark episode "Sarcastiball". I don't want to see players wearing bras and hugging on the field chasing a baloon.
Is that Tom Savage from the 2nd clip?
Conor Horn Yes
Modell Highlights if you do a part two do the one on Antonio Kinard vs east carolina
Odell highlights
Conor Horn yeah he is Tom Savage
Every day we wander closer and closer to Sarcastiball
on 7:46 u can see the ref shake his head no
Thanks for this video. Complete reminder why I’ve watched considerably less football every year for the last 8 years or so.
It’s just not fun to watch the best athletes in the world play at 80%. The game could be sooooooo much better.
A ref making a bad call... How shocking...
In other news: grass is green
did you notice the sun came up this morning too?
Wait really? I live in the middle of a desert town, so I honestly wouldn’t know.
*BREAKING NEWS: YOU MUST CONSUME NUTRIENTS TO LIVE*
Man I love watching Nate Gerry.
You're gonna love watching him in Nebraska's bowl game
welp, I hit a running back with my ear, I guess I'm disqualified
That call in the Nebraska UCLA game was an absolute disgrace.
The ND vs. Texas game there was a targeting much worse than this..but it was not called... and that caused tori hunter jr. a concussion
i mean there was also the terrible call on the fumble they gave back to ND even though a UT player recovered it...
Hunter ended up missing several games from the BS hit. The refs were going to do everything in their power to help Texas win that night.
Christopher G. Oh fuck off that was a clean hit.
What gets me is half the time the offensive player lowers his head right before getting hit.
I barely got through this damn video, the way these ball carriers are lowering their heads is ridiculous, where are they supposed to get hit at if they're lowering their head to the torso level?
this last one makes u ask what is a clean tackle that won’t be called for targeting
This is what ruined football ladies and gentlemen
But guess who has a Super Bowl ring now...not the refs...my boy Nate Gerry.
They might as well just make this a two hand touch game. These are ridiculous
1:13 this guys voice makes him sound like he had to wear a helmet in kindergarten recess
2:28-2:30 "And we all know why they're doing this!"
Me: If the NCAA is concerned for the safety of the players, get rid of the goddamn pads and helmets, and have it be flag-football.
These calls are fucking horrendous.
stackleft Agreed
This is challenging my faith in college football fair play. Every one of these calls were horrendous and this rule is ruining the game.
I was soooo pissed at the first play. I'm a BYU fan and I was furious
The only one I think was a reasonable call was the Kentucky vs. SC. The guy was in the air trying to catch a ball, but the ball went way over, and as the commentators point out, Smith wasn't even looking at the ball. I agree that most of these are bad calls, but I think that one was reasonable.
Kreate I think 1 his momentum carried him a little bit , but it was one of those close calls they have to make
Yeah because, even if you put your head to the side, and hit them in the shpulder, like they want you to, you still get ejected. I mean, concussions are horrible, but its fuckimg football, not a quilting bee.
The last one, even the sideline ref was shaking his head.
that last hit is some bullshit
I remember watching that last highlight in disbelief when Gerry got ejected. Worst call I've ever seen live because it cost a young man the opportunity to play.
Ref, he hit me so hard. Ok, he's disqualified.
I saw the Nebraska one live. The announcers on TV were saying, “Yup this is gonna be overturned, definitely not targeting,” then the refs said the ruling and the announcers were like “Well....”
And that bowl game was in Cali and the booing was still insanely loud.
2:45 DJ Smith didnt even lead with his helmet bruh as a South Carolina fan i was pissed when this happened
Being a Michigan\Lions fan, refs always feel like a 2nd enemy on the field
The Nebraska one is really bull crap
3:44
Sounds like a person who has never watched football before.
It's kinda funny how some of the refs like the one from the Stephon Tuitt hit sound so disappointed and somber when confirming the ejection, like even they know it's a bullshit call but the rules technically say it has to be done.
aolerma intresting perspective
interesting **
Jarl Ballin' #DoItTuitt
Tuitts was such bs
2:55 When a player applauds the referees for calling Targeting it makes him look incredibly soft.
"Yeah, that's right, stripes! He hit me too hard! Get that man out of this game! He's liable to hurt someone!"
Thought targeting was when you hit somebody in the helmet when they were a defense Player
Weeb No it isn't. Targeting has two separate lists of specific occurrences that are used to determine if something is indeed targeting. The rule specifically refers to "forcible contact to the head or neck area with the helmet, forearm, hand, fist, elbow or shoulder." The rule also goes into launching at another player and using the crown of the helmet to lead into the tackle.
Josh Rogers theres nothing about launching in the rules. 4:13 my guy
Last clip: after the confirm you can see the ref in the background shaking his head -->wrong decision
I was at the BYU vs Utah game and I believe because of that call we lost that game.
Samuel Jones True.
Samuel Jones that call and the call after that cost us the game. It would've been third and 20 Utah would punt after not converting. Next play interception is taken away for another targeting call, those calls don't happen and BYU wins the game.
True I was at it too. The pick that happened next play was money but it got brought back. Now I’m a Utah fan but I really dealt bad for u guys there was no way we should have beat u that game
7:07 it breaks my heart to hear that’s what football’s gonna be soon
I swear if I was one of these players I might have to butcher one of these refs. Good plays are punished. And then the ridiculous ejections that ensue even though it is obviously not an egregious hit are absolutely horseshit and a taint on the game of football. I can't stand this bullshit. I cannot watch college anymore.
We saw one of these this weekend at tenesse v Alabama it was ridiculous
1:18 Peyton Manning in disguise
"Mike Riley is hot"
Riley: Gee wilikers, I certainly disagree with your call but I respect you as a person.
these genuinely made me mad lol
That Nebraska ucla tackle was textbook. I'd like to see a ref try that at the iron bowl this past Saturday
that byu one is a horrible call
Ha! My friend from ND is in the thumbnail arguing with the ref 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This garbage is ruining football. The players know the risks. Let them play the damn game like it's supposed to be played. I don't think targeting should apply to any play except for when a WR isn't looking and it's helmet to helmet or a QB is sliding and it's helmet to helmet. Half the time they call targeting just because it's a big hit, even if the defender leads with their shoulder. BS.
totally agree
You should have added Kenny Bell's hit in the Big 10 Championship game. That was the sickest block I have ever seen in my life and basically cried when they called that targeting
all this calls are perfect plays... wtf refs
Just once, I'd like to see a coach lead his team off the field after one of these terrible calls.
Imo, not all of these were bad calls. The first and last ones were absolute bullshit, both cases where the defender was consciously doing everything possible to avoid targeting. The fourth one (the Michigan one) was also absurd, considering the refs should easily have been able to see on the replay that the player was thrown into the qb.
The second and third ones, though, I think should stand. The ND player lowered his head and led with the crown of his helmet, and the South Carolina player led with his helmet straight into the receiver's chin while the receiver was in the process of attempting a catch, both of which are textbook examples of what should be called for targeting.
It's funny when the official is shaking his head in the last one behind the Neb coach.
I dont get how face mask to face mask hits somehow fall under targeting. I dont even know how the word targeting is a rule. By definition, every tackled player was targeted for the tackle. Football in the modern age is a fucking joke.
*Edit:* 6:20 is the worst example. That is a textbook tackle!!! He even turns his head away as not to get called for targeting and gets it called anyways!!! Do officials wanna see ankle tackles at all fucking times!! So infuriating!
who are they going to target, the head coach on the sideline?? its BS! "targeting" I agree, what does that even mean?? when I played in HS, we tried to tackle the guy with the ball
You are absolutely correct! If you look, the defender has him arms out to tackle the guy. Terrible call! Take care....
7:45 the ref disagreed with the call shakes his head for like 4 seconds
Football is no longer fun. Too many restrictions on the players. It is a contact sport. You should expect for injuries to occur. These rules just destroy the fun in the game. Probably why I watch the NBA more than I use to.
Where's when the Penn State Linebacker got ejected for trying to intercept a football?
Super Dick I am doing a part 2. I will include that ejection.
Modell Highlights That's cool, I just couldn't believe that when I saw that. Enjoy the videos!
Super Dick Thanks! I couldnt believe it either when I saw the ejection
Super Dick I'm a Psu fan and I came to this video to see that awful call.
lol as soon as i saw the title i thought of the call against kai nacua. absolute trash
Devon crump same and didn’t our back up get ejected the next play to another bad call
*starts with utah* this is gonna be good
Thats a Nice vid!
This garbage has got to be addressed..WAY too many bs calls that have ruined games and these idiotic calls have screwed many players and teams.

Modell Highlights I got a question does the terrible mean bad calls or just ugly hits
bad calls
The broncosfb718 Bad calls
0:50 this one is absolutely the right call, by the letter of the law. Defender initiated contact with the crown of his helmet. Automatic ejection, whether the ball carrier was considered defenseless or not. Gotta keep your head up
He led with his shoulder, QB ducked at the last minute, which isn’t his fault. How the hell is that targeting?
hope all those refs were fired at least
The call in the last clip is ridiculous. The defender makes a big play by reading the QB and tackling the WR. Perfect play and they call targeting...
I liked and subed
Tara Wolfe Awesome 🤙🏿
boy
Always feel bad for guys when they get called for targeting when replays clearly show effort and execution in making a solid, but clean hit.
I'm kind of ok with the South Carolina ejection, but the rest were horrible. I can understand how some of these were called in real time, but the thing that makes me angry is that all of them had instant replay and STILL made the wrong call.
*****
Then again it doesn't really matter as I've never really given a crap about South Carolina or Kentucky football anyway. (Especially Kentucky)
You know what you signed up for . don't go in the flames if you don't like hell
What about the Michigan vs Michigan St game where he was pushed on the quarter back and was called, that was horse shit
Jacob Lee That is in the video
Modell Highlights no I know that I'm just saying that's a horse shit call haha
Jacob Lee Oh haha. Yeah I agree, its ridiculous.
Funny how BYU got it not once, but TWICE against Utah. And both made the list. (Part 1 and part 2).
1:41 7 on 7 crime
"It might be a good idea to put dresses on all of 'em." - a very wise man
needs to be some rule changes about intent and whether or not the offensive player changed level during the approach. Especially when these quarterbacks are lowering there shoulder into 300 lbs defensive lineman. You need a knock upside your head maybe it'll jar some logic into you.
These refs can spend eternity in the pit of misery. Dilly Dilly!
This makes me triggered
2 kinds of tacklers, the ones shown here that got robbed and the ones that were so bad the deserved it. 10/10 Would hit hard if targeting gets called anyway
soon, defensive players will have to send a notarized, registered letter to offensive players stating they are going to hit them. but even then, they will only be allowed contact after being 100% sure, said offensive player has read the letter.
that actually made me chuckle
Wait, they sent an email instead? "Personal foul, targeting, notifying player of a hit by email instead of certified mail. That player will be disqualified... by FedEx."
I think this is a good example of a college rule that's written too vaguely. It would be good for the game if there was a reliable rule meant to discourage flagrant or malicious targeting hits instead of ejecting guys that are trying to make a normal hit and then mistime the hit. Frankly, offensive players are using it to their advantage. (With a price, granted). But it's gotta feel convenient for any offensive player that all you have to do is duck your head and then go "oh look, I drew a targeting flag".
that first one was SO bad and i hate byu
Makai Brown he used his shoulder to hit the ute player at the neck or chest just the way it looked like well i know you hate BYU and I'm not gonna get mad about that cause that's your opinion.
On the last clip at 7:47 you can see the official standing in the background on Nebraska's sideline shaking his head. Even he knew this wasn't targeting.
2:30 "We all know why they're doing this. We all agree with why they're trying to do this." Yea like we all agree that these stupid ideas for penalties are ruining the game. Typical commentator who doesn't know what he's talking about.
Samuel Lawrence these are college kids most of which are actually there for an education. the avoidance of head to head hits is justified in the lower levels.
the idea of the penalty isn't bad, it's just how picky the rules keep getting every year with the penalty in action. At first the only part of the penalty was "if you go for the head it's targetting" and then it became "if you get in the general vicinity of their head it's a penalty and you don't get those 15 yds back if it's overturned" and than now we're at the current one that basically says if you hit their head in general you're out, the only part they fixed was giving back the 15 yards if it's overturned
Joey bosa in his last game “Ohio st vs Notre Dame” has to be one of the worst I’ve seen
A few of those were questionable, but I think the second one was a good call.
The problem is, the rulebook is quite clear:
(a) If there is any doubt, the official should throw the flag
(b) If there is any doubt in the review, the call stands
I think (b) needs to be changed to "if there is any doubt, the 15-yard penalty can stand, but the player remains in the game."
Don Del Grande I agree. They need to change the "doubt" rule. I also think refs are inconsistent with ejection penalties.
Modell Highlights hi
Tman laser Hey
Modell Highlights good job
Tman laser Thank you
If you look in the background of the Nate Gerry ejection at 7:45 you can see the ref shaking his head and saying what looks like "that's awful". Even the refs and opposing coaches of the ejected players agree that these calls are terrible yet they are still being made.
