It's OVER?! 😭Let me know in the comments what you thought of this ending, what your predictions are for season two, and what shows/movies I should make commentary on next! ❤ This has been so so fun. I love the Arcane community and I can't wait to react to season two. Should I go live so we can all talk about this season?!
one of the reasons I think why Vi and Jinx couldn't connect at all in the end was because of Vi's inability to recognize any changes that powder had gone through and what she became. The reason you hear Milo's laugh at the tea party is because he recognizes that what Vi is saying is a lie, but Jinx wants to believe that lie, so she shoots the doll to make him shut up
The first season of Arcane was the story of Powder becoming Jinx. Even if in real life the descent isn't necessarily permanent or irreversible, for story purposes there is no longer Powder. Moving forward, Jinx will not be the main focus like she was in this Season and will assume the role of antagonist moving forward is most likely what will happen. My guess for Season 2, will part of it be Vi's story arc in dealing with the aftermath of finally losing Powder, and basically finding out what her purpose moving forward will be as all these years she only thought about getting back and taking care of Powder. And this will be undoubtedly become more complicated with the inevitable war between PIltover and Zaun. Given we don't know who is dead from the Super Mega Death Rocket Jinx fired, it's hard to say how the war will be shaped. But one thing is certain, Jinx is but the first 'monster' that will come in the chaos of the war.
14:00 Vi is naming the people that are her fondest memories, her safe place, what got her through her hardest hours not realizing these are the exact opposite for Jinx. Its her worst nightmares, her trauma and guilt. Here is the twist, I think Silco knew this. When he yells at Jinx to not listen to Vi, thats not cause he think she will actually convince her. I think it because he knows the pain its causing her.
I have watched nearly every streamer ract to this show because I love everyones reactions and point of view. YOU have been the FIRST streamer I've seen hit the nail on the head with Vi stroking the fire that is Jinx's psychosis by trying to get her to 'remember' her trauma. Vi didnt know the harm she was doing, but Silco did which is why he was trying to kill Vi in his final moments. To protect Jinx. I'm so glad I watched your reactions as well. You also gave some amazing, amazing thoughts.
I don't think Silco was doing it to protect Jinx. I think his fear of losing Jinx to Vi is bigger than his concern over whatever mental health impact Vi's words have on Jinx. He is just afraid that Vi's words might actually pull Jinx away from him and "to her side". Killing Cait was the ultimate compliance test for Jinx: Cait was an enforcer, she signified everything Piltover stands for and what they were fighting against, and if Jinx can't kill her because Vi asks her not to, this means Jinx is lost to Silco. So Silco MUST convince Jinx to do his will instead of Vi's in that situation.
@@lolnoob5015 I rewatched it again because I didn’t remember him saying that and I can confirm he only says “Shut up! Don’t listen to her!” But I am on the side of Silco genuinely cared about *her*, not that she was just his weapons pawn etc
Something I liked about the Silco and Jayce scene is how Silco's gaze is unflinching until Jinx is mentioned. When Jayce brings up Jinx Silco breaks eye contact and looks away. A little detail but something that shows how much Silco cares about Jinx. He never considered her for part of the peace deal and when she's brought up as a bargaining piece he becomes defensive and even puts himself as responsible instead of her. Also the death of Silco has an interesting difference from Vanders. When Vander died Vi punched and "abandoned" powder. Where as when Silco dies he specifically tells her "you're perfect". A completely different response and one that kind of solidifies for Jinx that Jinx is who she is now.
I love that he says YOURE perfect . not like when he has previously said it...JINX is perfect. He accepts her as she is, even what little is left of Powder.
@@Hohum37 This is because Powder has called herself Jinx since Silco took Powder. She probably doesn't like being called Jinx, Powder by other people. Except for Violet, of course. Powder chose the name Jinx and Silco knows it. Silco shouts to Violet the name Powder has chosen, because that is her name. Silco knows about Powder's trauma and all of her past, and until this episode Silco constantly tried to save Powder from all sorts of situations that would annoy her, most of the time (until Violet sets foot in the underground city of course). After all, they have been living together for 7 years. I think it's a possibility, guess, theory, whatever you want to call it.
The show is full of those little expressions. When Vi is punch drunk and "Vander" taunts her with "Your guard could use some work" (9:25) the show went to the trouble of putting in a sneering "Heh!" from Vi. It's silent and half-formed in her delirious state but it's still there. And it may have any number of layers (from "Good one, you jerk" to "Great, I'm so headsmacked I'm hearing Vander's voice") but it feels so natural. I love the details in ARCANE. The details are everything.
@@n0bleonline222 but Vi is the only one here who realises how much damage the name "jinx" is really doing to her psyche? She renamed herself to the cursed word that her sister called her after she just accidentally killed her whole family. "Jinx" is a very unhealthy coping mechanism and silco is feeding that.
My favorite callback in this show - remember Vi telling Caitlyn about the game she would play with Powder when they were kids - inventing monsters, then having to chase her monsters away when it got too scary for her little sister? Compare that to Jinx' words when she puts the gun in Vi's hands... "Make her go away. Please?"
Silcos "Is there anything so undoing, as a daughter ?" has to be taken in context: EP3: Silco ask WHY Vander stopped fighting, how can it be that he became this tame peacemaker. EP9: "it all makes sense now brother" < As Silce realizes that he is NEVER going to give up on his Daughter and would do anything for her, he realizes that THIS is the reason why Vander changed: His Daughter Vi. "Is there anything so undoing" refers to him saying no to the dream he chased his entire life, the thing that gave his life meaning... to keep Jinx save.
Another thing I noticed about Silco's "Don't cry. You're perfect" line is how it relates to the last time Jinx accidentally caused family to die. Last time, she was yelled at, hit, told she messed up, and (to her) tossed aside. This time, there's no anger, no violence, no pushing her away. He just tells her he accepts her for everything she is, something she's NEVER had before. Because even though Vi did love Powder, she was often pointing out her flaws and mistakes, being told she's not good enough (even if it was to protect her.)
That’s not true at all, Mylo was always the one pointing powder flaws e mistakes, not Vi. Vi actually was always saying that she was enough and always defended powder against Mylo accusations.
@@rafaelacol2216 She didn't when Vander died. Now, obviously that was extreme heat of the moment stuff, so it's understandable to literally everyone. Still, Jinx screwed Silco over in the worst way imaginable, and he still accepted her.
Does Silco love Jinx as his daughter? Absolutely. Is he also sabotaging her so she won't abandon him? Yes. Caring about someone and being toxic/abusive is not mutually exclusive
@@manuela9872 See that is interesting, I think "she won't abandon him" is less of a issue than people think. One of the conditions that Jayce had for Silco was to take Jinx and Silco's response was "No, take me instead" (presumably to prison) which Jayce shot down with "We can't deal with a snake and cut off its head". Silco already volunteered to be separated from Jinx earlier in the episode to keep her out of prison.
"Is there anything so undoing as a daughter?" That's... almost the thesis of this series... or at least one of the major repeated notes. Vander and Vi, Marcus and his girl, Mel and her mother, Silco and Jinx. This episode was _so_ powerful in so many ways. The fight between Vi and Seveka, which solves nothing... it's just an emotional release for Vi. And the ending... To this day, I haven't forgiven them for getting Sting to sing the final song. Seriously!
It actually seems ironic how Vi was so desperate to kill Silco thinking it would bring "Powder" back and that turned out to be the biggest catalyst for Jinx to be the only one remaining. Also, I can never get over the song at the end of the episode, because, to me, it's directed at Vi. She's the one that created the "monster" that is Jinx, and Jinx just wanted to be loved by her. Now that the only person that really seemed to love her as she is has died, she's reached the clarity of having only Silco's voice in her head, the only person that was willing to fight for her.
You did not watch the show well if you truly think Vi created Jinx. Trauma created Jinx and Silco helped telling her Powder and Vi were dead. Vi, her fourteen year old trumatized sister, did not create a "monster'. And Silco adored Jinx like a daughter, but she loved her as Jinx and wanted her to be only Jinx
@@manuela9872 I think when they mean Vi created Jinx it was a mix of jinx herself saying so and the fact that Vi also played a role in traumatizing her sister despite that not being her intention. When she punches Powder that’s traumatizing for her and when vi left her WE know Vi tried to come back but for seven years or so Powder/Jinx thought Vi abandoned her and that’s traumatizing and it happened partly because of Vi and don’t forget when vi says “Milo was right you are a Jinx” take it in from powder’s perspective the person who always defended her and supported her against the idea of her being a jinx punched her and suddenly confirmed something that she had always defended her against. Essentially a lot of her trauma was from the hands of the person she was closest to (Vi) yes Silco helped build on that trauma but silco didn’t have to say anything that caused powder to say vi wasn’t her sister he simply asked where she was and on her own she said (with no convincing from silco before hand and at that very moment) “she’s NOT my sister anymore” Surely Silco continuously solidified that in her mind but the thought originally came to Powder through how she perceived Vi’s actions without any external influence and these events basically built the foundation for powder to become Jinx a “monster” and you can’t really build anything without a foundation and we have Vi to thank for that yk
@@Itsjustme-g7g "Vi to thank for that" and its a literal child who was traumatized by Powder and her bomb too. Vi created nothing, Silco literally ended the life of Powder's second father too and thats way more traumatizing than Vi hitting her, but Jinx pushed that back in her head bc Silco left her with nothing but him. Vi came back to a sister that was working willingly with the man that kill3d Vander and she still pushed her own trauma back to try to get to get to Jinx and love her
@Itsjustme-g7g You phrasing it like that was wrong bc it absolutely leaves it as if Vi was to blame and Jinx is the only one allowed to make mistakes bc of her trauma. No, just bc I defend Vi doesnt mean I hate Jinx. Please let me know where I did seem to dislike her though, bc i honestly think Jinx's character makes Arcane. I really like Jinx, but i do heavily dislike Silco and their defenders. I know Silco loved Jinx like a daughter, but some people honestly want to believe he was a great parent figure and didnt manipulate her all the time. Even if yes, he did adore her, he was an awful man even to his own zaunite people
I love that Riot and Fortiche decided to have Ekko and Heimerdinger team up, because its such a nice subversion of a popular trope, instead of the Wise Old Master Teaches Young Student, it becomes The Old Student Taught By The Young Master. Ekko's existence in this show is so unique and such an Ekko thing. He has always been a character that defies odds and expectations, and I cant wait to see where he goes in Season 2
There's a realy good video here on TH-cam that specifically talks about how Ekko breaks / subverts every rule / steteotype / statement that comes up in Arcane. How he is the ultimate side character that breaks the mold. The "Anti-Jinx" that shows what would've been if Powder didn't run after the others thst night but Vander still died. Before the time skip he and Powder are basically the same character but then follow different paths. Because he lost his "Vander", Benzo, and decided not to go after Silco because he had enough to deal with his grief already. Piltover vs Zhaun - Neither Future vs Past - Present Hextech vs Chemtech - eventually developinf his "Chronotech" It explains how Ekko is the only character thst doesn't get a flashback but a reintroduction after being absent for the entire 2nd act (appearing as the Firelight Leader isn't appearing as Ekko)
Well I think it's mutual. Still subverting the trope, but let's not pretend like Heimer with his 300 years of knowledge, especially since he's a freaking scholar who spends all his time studying science That he wouldn't have an upper hand in knowledge Vs Ekko Ofc Ekko has things to teach Heimer, but it's not accurate to say that this is just a reverse and it's a purely "old student taught by the young master" I've seen this a couple time under react vid comments, and it always irks me It's not instead of. It's in addition to, an added layer to
@@wynoglia You are missing the part where Heimer is in the undercity, probably for the first time. Ekko corrected Heimer about his issue on the design of Ekko's hoverboard. Heimer might have centuries of knowledge on Piltover's technology, but he knows nothing about what Zaun has made for themselves.
@@Drachendaemon1 To be fair, Ekko also has his parents to raise him. Benzo was his employer who allowed him to pursue his technical skills, but not his only adult guardian.
It would definitely be an amazing inversion of the trope to have this young, impoverished black boy from what is basically a ghetto teaching a man who was essentially the face of rich privileged society for so long.
This show was so good, no matter how many times I’ve seen the show by now through other react channels. The finale still gets me. Can’t wait for season 2
There is a season 2 teaser out there. While the teaser doesn't really show much as far as visuals, it does feature some interesting sound bytes from Vi, Caitlyn & Jinx.
Violet knew Powder, who is mostly gone at this point. She doesn't know Jinx at all. She's spent seven years in a stone box with daily beatings, and time sort of stood still for her. Meanwhile, everything in Powder's world irrevocably *changed* ... For all his many failings, Silco at least understood Jinx.
In a way, Vi knew the person who captured her wasn't Powder. Despite all her insistence to call her "Powder", all her apparent belief that she was still her little sister, she dreaded the moment Jinx decided to lift the lid, thinking she would see Caitlyn's head underneath. She kept denying that Jinx was who she became, yet she *believed* her capable of beheading someone and putting her on a plate. In a way, Vi was trying to convince herself she could get Powder back as much as Ecko tried to convince himself she was fully Jinx earlier.
@@TheEarthisghetto I am not saying he wasn't a toxic influence on her, but his feelings for her are more complex then what you are making them out to be.
everytime i see this episode i can't stop crying... when jinx hear the words 'you are perfect' and then Silco dies... her eyes are so empty .. she is so broken... it is portrayed so good i feel it everytime... i'm lucky i never felt like this before but i can feel it thrue her
I’ve never seen animation capture that dead eye stare as well as they did here. The whole episode Jinx’s eyes and facial expressions are absolutely incredible! Even in live action I haven’t seen that pulled off so well!
A big thing I noticed about the seats for “Powder” and “Jinx” the seat for powder was right next to Vi while the Jinx seat was next to Silco showing how those two sides of her gravitate to those two specific people. Jinx is the daughter of Silco and Powder is the sister of Vi
A big part of that final talk around the table was Jinx trying to find out if Vi would ever accept her for who she is, rather than who she used to be. Jinx tested Vi with the food tray, to see what her sister would think. Vi clearly sees Jinx as a monster. Vi couldn’t accept Jinx, which is why Silco’s final words are so impactful. They’re why she chooses Jinx. “You’re perfect.”
When Silco was having his crisis of choosing between Jinx and Zaun it recalls his conversation with Deckard in episode 2 when he talks about being willing to do anything to achieve gaining power. At the time he would have but now there is something he is not willing to do, almost as if he learned Vander's lesson to Vi better than she did.
Vi was willing to start a war to get revenge on Silco. Silco actually was willing to bargain. He wanted to create enough fear to make war seem like the last thing on the table for Piltover to choose and war was actually a last resort for him. In the end, the only thing that would have stopped this bargain was him not willing to give up Jinx.
@@kalinora3901++ "war was actually a last resort for him" exactly Probably the gun Jinx made for Silco is "Fishbones", in case compromise and agreement go wrong, it would probably be that gun anyway. As many arcane fans have said, "peace was never an option."
I think Powder died when she pulled the pin on the bridge after the fight with Ekko. After that it was just Jinx. When she told Vi "... and you can have Powder back", she really meant "and I'll pretend to be Powder for you". And she seems to have some self-awareness of her condition and how it's perceived by other people; she's using this with her somewhat twisted sense of humor, like the joke with the "cupcake" on a plate in this episode, and when she questioned the terrified Thieram/Chuck in the bar.
If its DID, Jinx cannot kill Powder, she might be able to contain her, but Jinx, at her core, is a protector alter. It would be in direct violation of her function to kill the Powder alter. When she says "you can have Powder back", I take it as more of a "I'll stop fronting, and I'll let the Powder alter out of containment". If Vi kills Caitlyn, Jinx loses her source. There is no reason for Jinx to exist if Powder is safe and happy.
@@xandersorrows7341 I don't think Jinx is suffering from split personality, as much as every decision is a crossroads for her. One way is the normal, sensible way, the "Powder" way. The other is the violent, amoral, do whatever she has to way, the "Jinx" way. Powder is who she was as a child, needing to be protected, Jinx is who she wants to be, a person who is strong, isn't weak, is useful, can protect herself. Powder/Jinx aren't two separate personalities, as much as they are a decision for who "Powder" wants to be. She offered Powder back because she is desperate for approval and love, especially from those she cares about, to be told she's worth something, that she isn't a problem. And in Silco's final moments, after she made another terrible mistake, killing someone she loved, instead of being abandoned (even though that wasn't Vi's fault) or yelled at or hit, he tells her she's perfect, that it's ok. Vi loves her, but Vi can't understand who or what she is anymore. Silco (as unhealthy and toxic as he was for Powder) accepted and loved her despite all the horrible things she did, even when she killed him. That's why in the end, she chose the "Jinx" chair. When she says "I thought you could love me like you used to, even though I'm... different," she's plainly saying Powder and Jinx are her, they are the same person. That line wouldn't make sense if she thought of Powder and Jinx as different people/personalities.
Silco saying “Your perfect” when she killed him is probably both the best and worst thing he could have said to jinx in that moment. And now silco is going to be a big part of her insanity I think, something like Mylo maybe.
I'm pretty sure his intent was to avoid specifically that. She's going to blame herself for his death and that will add to the things she deals with. So hopefully instead of feeling like she can't do anything right and she messed up again, Silco made sure to let her know before he died that he doesn't blame her at all, wasn't upset and thinks she's amazing. Basically everything he could do to make sure he wouldn't be one of the voices in her head constantly reminding her she isn't good enough, like a Mylo.
I'm not sure that Silco is going to be a part, well, not like Mylo and Claggor anyway. Her scratchy demonic hallucinations stopped - and the stress of killing Silco would normally be when we'd expect to see them in another breakdown. But we don't. I think she's actually put those demons to bed. She's calm and talks rationally. Perhaps it's only temporary, but I wonder if she'll act more rationally in general now - perhaps with Silco as a ghost in her mind, but not a torturing one.
@@ArtficialFlvrz in the game she talks to her weapons and they all have different personalities. Fishbones (her rocket launcher) is the responsible, fatherly voice in her head. While game Jinx is more light-hearted than the show version, I could totally see Silco becoming the voice in her head that becomes a counter to Mylo.
My favorite part was the "geez I'm not that crazy" You can tell she is playing crazy oppose to being a mental problem, you can feel there is a side of her that just say "they think I'm crazy I will show them crazy". She was testing Vi and trying to decide if her sister still believe in her and that she couldn't do such thing, and she failed the test
But Vi wasn't wrong to worry about Cait. Jinx has murdered people and she wants Cait dead. Vi knows that about Jinx and STILL she loves her and wants to leave everything behind with her.
Silco is a fantastic example of how more stories should be writing villains. At the end of the day, what is your villain if not a person. The best stories are the ones we can relate to and engage with and feel strongly invested in. Silco is not comically evil... He is his own person with his own motivations and morals and reasons for fighting. Above all else, he is a human. His attachment to Jinx was genuine, and it came from a place of shared trauma. We felt his self reflection and doubt, and we cried along with Jinx when she was forced to kill him. There are no winners in war, only survivors, and nobody escapes war with clean hands. Speaking of war, Ambessa Medarda is likely about to go off the deep end. Even if some of the councilors do survive, even if Mel survives, Ambessa will not let this attack go unanswered. There will be consequences for what Jinx just did. Seeing as Ambessa has her own influence and soldiers from Noxus to support her, I'm fearful she's going to take things to Zaun herself. Season 2 is definitely going to be something, if it even focuses on these same characters.
I'd argue that Jinx did connect with Vi in the end. She voices her need to be loved despite the fact that she's changed, which is about as honest and vulnerable as it can get. And actually formulating that need is huge, because she dares to do it despite her mistakes. Vi's image of her sister is stuck in the past. She's not Powder anymore, she's Jinx, and Vi will need to come to terms with that in season two.
But realistically, Vi can't come to terms with who her sister is and still love her. She's a moral character, and Jinx just isn't. Vi would have to abandon her morality to accept Jinx as she is: A violent amoral killer.
@@sebrussell Heh, we'll see. In the recently released Arcane documentary (It's on YT, search for 'Arcane: Bridging the Rift', it's great), show runner Christian Linke said that the show, among other things, poses questions like "Does someone like Jinx deserve a second chance?" and "Can a monster be ever forgiven?" I'm rather sure that a decent part of season 2 will be spent on possible answers for that, and I'm all here for it.
I thoroughly enjoyed your reaction to this series, and your input and analysis. Thank you! I know that you've not posted anything in a minute on this channel, but I would definitely be invested in hearing what you have to say about season 2 :3
the thing is: Powder's acceptance that she's "jinx" is pretty revolutionary.. her demeanor completly changes from a trauma case to "i'm this, and i've accepted it" is a pretty powerful step
The thing that I love about this ending is how perfect it fits in the story. Ever since from a young age Mylo would tell her that she is a jinx. And in the end of the story she ironically jinxed the counselor’s meeting. It ties up perfectly because now she is embracing her “trait” that Mylo was implying on powder since the start of the show. Amazing
It's easy to empathize with Heimerdinger, with his long experience and moral compass, but then we have to remind ourselves that he led the council through the entire history of Piltover, in which the undercity was marginalized and downtrodden and eventually criminalized. If there is any single character who bears the most responsibility for the dire events of the series (complex though the history and motives and interactions are), it's Heimerdinger.
Also Yordles are immortal... He doesnt have the concept of a lifespan. Even if you kill a Yordle, they would just respawn in their dimension and hop back to Runeterra like it was nothing. This is something that makes him unable to understand the fear of "Time Running Out" that Humans have, thus he lost his friend Singed, and also his students Jayce and Viktor.
When Silco dies, the look on her face shifts from sadness to acceptance. She finally accepts that she IS Jinx. There's no going back, so she thinks there's no point to not just embrace Jinx completely. And when she chooses the Jinx chair, she fully submits to what she thinks Jinx is.
Young Vi: Powder, What makes you different makes you strong, remember that. Jinx: I thought you could love me the way you used to, even though I'm ... different.
Vi didnt judge her sister for all horrible acts she commited. She loves her sister and feels responsible for her. She just wanted them both to leave and let the past behind them. But Jinx just could not give that a chance. And instead chooses to leave her sister to murder a bunch more people to "show them". Without any regard for what her sister or even Silco wanted, she just kills people to blow of steam.
@@Ockerlord That's a very shortsighted view of things. The fact is that Vi, at no point in the entirety of the series, acknowledges Jinx; It's always Powder. Humans have a great capacity for change, but we cannot change what has already been done. There are plenty of excuses for what Vi did in Episode 3, but at the end of the day, what she did was abandon her sister to a crime lord. And while she feels compelled to "fix" that mistake by saving Powder, the honest truth is that there is no Powder any longer. Jinx is the sum of all of the events that have lead to this moment, the good and the bad, and while she has the capacity to change again, she can never go back to who she was before. And because Vi refuses to acknowledge Jinx, she can't begin to help guiding her back to a more stable and healthy individual. The only reason Vi didn't judge Jinx is because she does not consider Jinx and Powder to be the same person. And it's for that same reason that Jinx says "I thought maybe you could love me like you used to."
Very apt that Jinx put Cait in her Enforcer’s uniform. A way of saying, “hey, remember, we hate these guys?” And that also contributed to her line of “you changed too.” Yikes. I could literally write pages on that dinner scene but I’m going to try and keep it brief. It’s such a master class of everything coming together. The story, the music, the tension, the animation. Everything about that scene just adds that extra layer and it’s astounding. Any scene that makes me think even for a split second, even with meta knowledge on my side, that Cait’s head was on the platter deserves an award in all honesty. There was a cupcake, however… that’s some dark humor there, Jinx. The way this show plays with Powder vs Jinx is so good (even if people take it far too literally sometimes). Jinx presents the option of Powder and Jinx to Vi. Says that she’ll be Powder again, if Vi can kill Cait. But it’s a false choice, and I think even Vi knows it. Powder’s chair is pushed into the table, surrounded by clutter. Jinx’s chair is pulled out and ready to be sat in at any time. It’s inevitable how it’s all going to end, that Jinx is going to sit in that chair no matter what at the end of all this. And it’s heartbreaking because we know Jinx is a victim. She’s been through so much, but she’s not the only victim in this scene. Vi loves her sister so much, still thinks there’s maybe some sort of hope. But no matter how much she loves her sister, she can’t enable her homicidal tendencies. She can’t defend her actions anymore. Silco has become Jinx’s enabler. When they were kids, Vi would’ve let Powder get away with murder (figuratively). But she can’t anymore. There’s also just the idea of how their past loved ones affect them in the present. For better or worse, Vi uses the people she loved as a means of pushing herself forward. It’s what kept her sane in Stillwater, it’s what pushed her beyond her limits in the fight between her and Sevika. It’s why she can’t see that it’s not the same for Jinx. Jinx sees them all as demons, monsters that torment her. And it’s this disconnect that is ultimately their undoing.
I think my favorite part about the show is how it handled Jinx. When trauma happens and it affects you in such a way, like with Jinx, there is no wake up and return to what you were. That's what Vi didn't get a chance to see. In order to actually talk with Jinx, she was always talking to Powder, in the past. Great breakdowns! Loved the reaction to the series!
Silco saying that bit about being undone by his daughter.. is also a reference to how Vander gave up everything to save his children. Something Silco could never relate to or understand until that moment he had to choose between jinx and his dream. Because he actually did regard her like his daughter.. he just never had to make that choice before. His convo with Vander is him bringing that to light.
This entire series struck me as basically the same sort of story as the ancient Greek tragedies, like Oedipus, or the like. Jinx truly does have a tragic flaw, in that she really *does* self-sabotage things right when she or those she cares about are right on the cusp of success. Knocking the board over which led to them losing all the loot at the beginning. Her monkey bomb resulting in the deaths of her entire family, basically. She recovers the hex gem, but is nearly killed in the process and forever changed by what Singed did to her to save her life. Then, at the end, the council have all unanimously agreed to give her and the Undercity literally *everything* Silco has wanted for decades, but right as they finish voting, her rocket impacts and could wipe out the entire council.
I LOVE that people in the show keep treating Powder/Jinx like a dichotomy or a duality, like they are two separate people that she has to choose between, but even at the end, that simply isn't true. Silco tells Jinx that Powder needs to die when he 'baptizes' her, but we still see those moments of childish vulnerability, and remorse, and love for Vi. And then even at the end when she is setting up that dichotomy, kills Silco, and chooses to sit in the Jinx chair, she still isn't 'just' Jinx. She cries and shows that vulnerability and insecurity when talking about how she thought Vi could love her even though she is different. It's almost like in that moment her personality is at its most integrated. She cries as she commits her biggest act of violence and chaos yet, and regrets that things hadn't gone differently. A lot of makes her Powder is what makes her Jinx, and people aren't so simple that in a moment they can just choose to half of who they are (I recognize that DID is a bit different and also complicated, but Jinx doesn't seem to exhibit that to me.)
I got the sense that Jinx loved Silco because he accepted her and her "issues" but Vi couldn't accept that she has changed and this is who she is. We all grow in different ways, and others will always have their own opinion on whether that change was for the better or the worst. Jinx needs Vi to see who she is now and not who she was as a child, she needs to acknowledge the trauma she has faced and how it has shaped her to be the young woman she is
The edit at 10:15 had me *dying* well done xD Love this series, even though I only just watched it for the first time two days ago, and your breakdown of everyone's mental situations was really spot on.
Very late to the party here, but I just got to say, I love that quote from Viktor. "In our pursuit of great, we failed to do good". That resonates so much with me, not just in the parent/child dynamic as you pointed out, but in so many aspects of life - it's like telling us to take a step back from our ambitions, dreams or goals, and try to remember why we are pursuing those in the first place.
Vi wants to go back. Jinx wants to move on. Vi thinks she's providing Jinx comfort when reminding her of their past because she believes Jinx to be running away. When in reality those memories are harmful to Jinx, and Jinx wants to move on. Such a perfect clash of motivations and sensibilities of character, and such a wonderful display of a relationship falling apart. As a writer this show in amazing, with so many layers to strip away.
I keep thinking what would happen if when Jinx asked Vi where should she sit, Vi answered: sit where you want, you are still my sister and i love you. To be honest that's what Vi was feeling (look 13:08) and Jinx wanted to hear. Would she believe her or was she really too far gone? Also, awesome series! Definitely gonna stick around for more.
I binged your whole reaction series to Arcane, it was great! I feel like I've learned a lot by watching your reactions and they've helped me think differently about my own thoughts and emotions. I'm grateful for that.
Has anybody else been seeing Jinx trying to get herself killed straight after each time she is stressed? Episode 4 at the end of the scene where she projects Vi onto the pink haired girl. She taunts Sevica, you see Sevica powering up her arm under the cloak before getting distracted by the alert. You can see Jinx's disappointment/anger when Sevica turns away. Later when she is in her "room" after being side-lined by Silko you see her playing chicken with the grenade countdowns when she is being haunted and only stops once she reaches a decision that drives her "demons" to silence and responds by throwing all the grenades/temptation away. On the bridge in "Boy Saviour" when Ekko has her pinned her expression changes from fearful, to a sort of peaceful acceptance like "finally" before she releases the grenade. Even in the final scene she takes that gamble when facing down Caitlyn and only puts the gun down when Vi stops Caitlyn and calls Jinx her sister. (It's also hinted at when you see her kill the raven in the arcade, during the bridge fight scene the raven is her background "mascot" in the childhood game flashback. As well as ravens appearing in various scenes with Jinx, the reunion with Vi being an easy example.)
Yas, finally. I've been dying to see you react to the final episode. I love how you explain what's going on in these person's minds and how that can lead to further problems and how to possibly overcome them.
This episode leaves a few hopeful spots for season 2. Number one is that Heimerdinger is with Ekko and the Firelights. Despite his youth and inexperience, Ekko has been shown to be an effective leader, and effective in moving the story and people around him in a positive direction. Heimerdinger was shown to be ineffective, but he is a genius with centuries of experience, so pairing those two in the vacuum caused by Silco's death puts them in position to be a poweful force for the whole of the undercity. Second is that Caitlyn is likely to be the next Sheriff of Piltover, the new head of House Kiramman, and a member of Piltover's council. She's been shown to make good choices, she knows a bit about the undercity (and has some sympathy), and she's one of the characters who is effective in achieving long term goals, so putting Caitlyn and Vi into leadership of Piltover's enforcers is probably a good thing. All of the old guard might be gone, but the old guard was largely responsible for the rift between Piltover and Zaun, and we've been shown young characters who are wiser and in good positions to lead in season 2. Also, Vander is almost certainly coming back. it looked like he was hanging from the machinery in Singed's lab in the last scene. he was pumped full of shimmer when he died, and he didn't shrink down the way people do when shimmer wears off, so he was likely still alive at the end of ep 3. In the council, I'm pretty sure Jayce and Viktor will survive, possibly with a hextech forcefield like the one Vi used to stop Sevika's blade. I want to tell myself that Mell will survive, because she turned out to be a great character; if she does it will have something to do with that gold chest piece she wears under her clothes and never takes off, even when "naked". The rest of the council probably died though.
One more silver lining, Sevika will probably take charge of Zaun/The Undercity. Now, I know that don't sound good, but here me out. Was it The Undercity that blew up the council? No. It was Jinx, who was already responsible for most of the recent problems plaguing Piltover. Sevika has no love for Jinx and has seen her as a problem from day one (or at least episode 4). I can easily see her agreeing to give Jinx to Piltover for a similar deal to the one Silco had with Jace.
Your little comment about Vander is almost exactly true ⚠️POSSIBLY A SLIGHT SPOILER?⚠️ He becomes Warwick, and I’m pretty sure there’s a short snippet of him too that you may be able to find floating around
I'm always amazed about the reflections of Vander and Silco. Vander had a peace which Vi broke, and all he had to do to restore that peace was give Vi up, but he was unwilling to give up his daughter, unwilling to make that sacrifice. Silco scorned Vander for this weakness, but in this episode, he realizes Vander's perspective. It's why he talked to Vander like that, because he realized he himself was not 'strong' enough to make the sacrifice Vander was unwilling to make. He realized his own hypocrisy.
I just finished watching the 9 episodes of your reactions and I can't believe that I just found out about these, I love this videos, the way you explain them and analyze it's great, plus it's awesome to learn some psychology and mental states while having fun 😃
Thank you for such an insightful set of videos about these characters, it's been a joy to watch, and along the way you seem to have been hooked on the series as much as anyone.
Thank you for your reaction/commentary on Arcane. It was very insightful getting your take on the mental health aspects of it. And also thanks Arcane for introducing me to the truth doctor (I'm currently on ep4 of "HUMAN First").
One thing I feel like I don’t often see people mention but is likely rolled into other things is the reason why I feel as though Vi still calls her Powder. And truthfully I think one of the reasons is because she never wanted to call her Jinx again. I think she feels like by doing so she’s validating what she said to her all those years ago, I could imagine she’s afraid that Jinx would say “so you DO think I’m a jinx” and I could absolutely see Vi being very, very afraid of that.
Gotta say, reactions don't normally stick with me psychologically, but your commentary on pushing-the-button with regard to suicides is going to ring through all my rewatches. This is an excellent reaction.
Thank you for your very unique and different viewpoint on the show. Its quite fascinating. I really broadened how much I thought about the show than I already do.
I know this channel hasn't been active in a few years, but I really enjoyed this series and it would be great if you did a reaction series for season 2 some time! Thanks for all your insightful commentary :)
There is a parallel between the scene where Silko says "Is there anything so undoing as a daughter?" to the scene where Vi says there are things powder can't do. The parallel is that in both cases Powder/Jynx fails to hear the next part. the part that comes after what Silko said is "They offered me everything I ever wanted, and all they asked for was the one thing I can never give them."
Thanks for the reaction series. In a series in which the principal character is "mad," it's always interesting to hear the viewpoint of a professional in the field of mental health (in addition to the simple views of another human being... which is why we watch reactions, I think). I think that storytelling is an important part of the human existence, which helps us to make sense of who we are and who we're supposed to be, and so I think it's important that such masterworks as _Arcane_ delve into so many fundamental issues of human existence, and I think your commentary a valuable addition tp that experience.
The show is all taking place in the past by the way. It’s the origin story/backstory for characters within the game League of Legends and jinx spiraling was always going to be the end result. Even know that I really enjoyed the story. I recommend checking out the “Get Jinxed” music video that was their first introduction of visual narrative
12:27 I don't understand why everyone think that way. Jinx and Caitlyn won't get along. Jinx rightfully hate enforcers because they're corrupt and oppressing zaun. Caitlyn doesn't care Jinx is Vi's sister and wants to sends her to justice. It's impossible for Vi to have Powder back while having Caitlyn as friend. So she does have to choose between Powder/Jinx and Caitlyn.
I hoping that Season 2 focuses on Vi unpacking her trauma as she works with Caitlyn and Jayce to hold the cities together during what's sure to be a civil war, with Noxian influence fomenting the conflict further.
No show has ever made me sob over the death of the antagonist/villain, but I cried so hard over Silco. Because over all of his flaws and how cruel he could be, he really was the good guy in his world. He had a movement he cared so deeply about, and a daughter that he valued over anything, and his death just hit so hard for me, Jinx's reaction just made me cry harder, this show is too fuckin good
Will you PLEASE make reaction videos for S2?! I love your insight about this show! It opened my eyes more to how well the creators constructed all the characters, especially the ptsd that Jinx is going through. I would love to know the psychology behind the rest of the story.
Your reactions to Arcane are among my favourites. You provide such a great analysis of the show. I wanted to ask, will you watch a docuseries about making of Arcane? It's called "Arcane: Bridging the Rift", and there are already 2 episodes of it on TH-cam (overall will be 5 episodes). It's super inspiring and insightful.
Silco would never have given Jinx up. His monologue to Vanders statue was him trying to convince himself he should even tho knew he never could. Thats what "undoing". Jinx has undone what he was, his dreams, ambition and sacrifices all undone by a small girl he found crying in the rain so many years ago.
I'm glad you liked this show. It was nice journey with your commentary / insight. I expect many things in the season two but I will not talk about that here because I know alot about the lore of the actual game so this might be spoilers.
I don't say this often, but I consider this show a masterpiece. Everything from storytelling and soundtrack to animation and voice acting. 10/10 on my list. Sadly, there is no guarantee the second season would continue this storyline, as there are too many characters and stories from the world of League of Legends not even scratched upon. But one is certain, whatever the second season be, it would be a spectacular work of art, because all the artistic geniuses working on it.
I think it's ironic that straight after accusing Silco of being stuck in the past, Jinx says that Vi can have Powder back. One of the main themes of the show, in my opinion, is people being stuck in the past, and not being ready to accept the new reality. You can't turn the clock back. City of progress indeed. I also think that Jinx sitting in that chair... that's despair. She's not triumphantly claiming the name Jinx.... she's admitting to herself that yes, she's a jinx, and she can't escape it.
The reason Jinx couldn't connect with Vi, is because Vi refused to accept that she was Jinx. Vi had an idealised version of Powder in her mind that simply no longer existed, and apparently she couldn't come to terms with that fact. Jinx wasn't able to convince her sister to accept her, and after losing her 3rd father, she gave up on even trying.
Vi cannot accept the fact that she is JInx, She just wants Powder back, but Powder no longer exists. Jinx says " i thought you could love me like you use to". Basically, Vi is not accepting Jinx as she is now.
So here's the problem with that statement. How could she? Since breaking out of prison, Vi has interacted with Jinx three times. Three times. The brief reunion where they speak for less than two minutes, the bridge where Jinx fires on Vi and Caitlyn as soon they see each other, and the dinner party scene. How can Vi be reasonably expected to understand who Jinx has become? They've spoken with each other less than 10 minutes. Of course Vi wanted Powder back, that's all she knew and she was never in a position to be able to actually speak with Jinx as sisters, talking it out. Vi tried as best she could with what she knew. And it was the wrong thing to say when she was telling Jinx to remember, but Vi couldn't have known any better.
The reason you hear Milo's laugh at the tea party is because he recognizes that what Vi is saying is a lie, but Jinx wants to believe that lie, so she shoots the doll to make him shut up
Just the first episode of The Marvelous Miss Maisel.
also, Ted Lasso would be great for you to study. Many different characters pull from.
even if it isnt on a recorded reaction, you should watch the "enemy" video that they made for the series intro.
14:00
Vi is naming the people that are her fondest memories, her safe place, what got her through her hardest hours not realizing these are the exact opposite for Jinx.
@@cristiancandru8610 Naah he was doing it to protect her, he literally screams you’re hurting her to Vi before he picks up the gun
@@lolnoob5015 Silco has just urged Jinx to murder Vi and/or Caitlyn. I don't think that would have been too good for her mental health.
@@lolnoob5015 I rewatched it again because I didn’t remember him saying that and I can confirm he only says “Shut up! Don’t listen to her!” But I am on the side of Silco genuinely cared about *her*, not that she was just his weapons pawn etc
@@Melodyonleague I need to rewatch that again then
Something I liked about the Silco and Jayce scene is how Silco's gaze is unflinching until Jinx is mentioned.
@@matthewlayo9561 Monsters are perfect to Silco. He specifically counters Vi when she calls her Powder in this scene, insisting her name is Jinx.
@@Hohum37
This is because Powder has called herself Jinx since Silco took Powder.
Please?"
Oh my fucking god that's so good!
Before that, on the bridge as Vi runs back to Cait, Mylo gets bigger and bigger.
Silcos "Is there anything so undoing, as a daughter ?" has to be taken in context:
EP3: Silco ask WHY Vander stopped fighting, how can it be that he became this tame peacemaker.
Silce
His daughters, Vi and Powder, they were both his daughters at the time.
@@felixhenson9926Sorry but no, Vander was way closer to Vi than Powder.
@@hyril86 Vi, Powder, Milo and Clagger literally all called him father. They were all a family.
Fuck...
Seriously!
Love the song!
And one of the biggest catalysts of the entire series, Singed and his creation Shimmer, all to eventually save his own
It’s such a fun detail
OMG YES SAME
@@manuela9872 I think when they mean Vi created Jinx it was a mix of jinx herself saying so and the fact that Vi also played a role in traumatizing her sister despite that not being her intention.
Even if yes, he did adore her, he was an awful man even to his own zaunite people
GIIIIIRL! U have to comeback, plsssssssss!!!!
Agreed.
Does she quit utube,
I love that Riot and Fortiche decided to have Ekko and Heimerdinger team up, because its such a nice subversion of a popular trope, instead of the Wise Old Master Teaches Young Student, it becomes The Old Student Taught By The Young Master.
Piltover vs Zhaun - Neither
Future vs Past - Present
Hextech vs Chemtech - eventually developinf his "Chronotech"
It explains how Ekko is the only character thst doesn't get a flashback but a reintroduction after being absent for the entire 2nd act (appearing as the Firelight Leader isn't appearing as Ekko)
Well I think it's mutual. Still subverting the trope, but let's not pretend like Heimer with his 300 years of knowledge, especially since he's a freaking scholar who spends all his time studying science
That he wouldn't have an upper hand in knowledge Vs Ekko
Ofc Ekko has things to teach Heimer, but it's not accurate to say that this is just a reverse and it's a purely "old student taught by the young master"
I've seen this a couple time under react vid comments, and it always irks me
It's not instead of.

Made jinx* he never understood her he only saw her weakness and preyed on it
@@TheEarthisghetto no, it's more complex than that.
@@spamfilter32 no it's not, he preyed on her it's pretty simple
@@kalinora3901++
"war was actually a last resort for him" exactly
Probably the gun Jinx made for Silco is "Fishbones", in case compromise and agreement go wrong, it would probably be that gun anyway.
@@Hohum37 exactly
"Jinx is perfect" (baptism scene) + "you're perfect" = you're jinx
@@ArtficialFlvrz in the game she talks to her weapons and they all have different personalities. Fishbones (her rocket launcher) is the responsible, fatherly voice in her head. While game Jinx is more light-hearted than the show version, I could totally see Silco becoming the voice in her head that becomes a counter to Mylo.
My favorite part was the "geez I'm not that crazy"
You can tell she is playing crazy oppose to being a mental problem, you can feel there is a side of her that just say "they think I'm crazy I will show them crazy".
@@Ockerlord Yes but she doesn't accept "Jinx" - Vi wants Powder back.
I agree. Before Jinx walks outside she stands for a moment looking at Vi, not with any kind of hatred but with genuine sadness in her eyes 🥺
@@philthompson5093 Sadness for what could have been.
Actually it is Jinx who is stuck in the past.
Vi wants to leave the city and their past behind together with Jinx.
But Jinx just cannot let go.
But realistically, Vi can't come to terms with who her sister is and still love her. She's a moral character, and Jinx just isn't. Vi would have to abandon her morality to accept Jinx as she is: A violent amoral killer.
@@sebrussell Heh, we'll see. In the recently released Arcane documentary (It's on YT, search for 'Arcane: Bridging the Rift', it's great), show runner Christian Linke said that the show, among other things, poses questions like "Does someone like Jinx deserve a second chance?" and "Can a monster be ever forgiven?"
I'm rather sure that a decent part of season 2 will be spent on possible answers for that, and I'm all here for it.
These were great and I really hope that you come back to do season 2!
Hi just recently watched through your analysis of season 1 and I loved it so so much! It would be a blessing to watch you react to season 2!
@@revanflame Exactly
@@revanflame "...Vi at no point in the entirety of the series, acknowledges Jinx..."
The council would disagree.
@@TheRawrnstuff Sure, but did she say "my sister Jinx" or just unrelated terrorist Jinx?
Silco finally understood why Vander did what he did to protect Vi and the others and they both spent their last moments protecting their daughters
Vander did not spend a second comforting Vi in his last moment. He just told her to take care of Powder.
Loved the reaction to the series!
waiting on season 2😭😭😭
Yin Yang. The point is division within the whole.
I got the sense that Jinx loved Silco because he accepted her and her "issues" but Vi couldn't accept that she has changed and this is who she is. We all grow in different ways, and others will always have their own opinion on whether that change was for the better or the worst. Jinx needs Vi to see who she is now and not who she was as a child, she needs to acknowledge the trauma she has faced and how it has shaped her to be the young woman she is
When even the therapist needs therapy after the finale, you know the show hits so hard.
Such beautiful analysis of the show! If only my psychology professors were as engaging as you lol. PLEASE react to Season 2!
"Don't Cry, You're Perfect." punches me in the gut every time.
You need to do season 2
I cant wait her to meet Isha, really want to know her opnion about it
Sooooo season 2 reaction when?
PLEASE DO SEASON 2!!!1!!!
Definitely gonna stick around for more.
found this channel while I was looking for a therapist after watching arcane, cuz let's face it, we all need therapy after this finale.....
Everytime i recall jinx i remember this line
" this is how it starts the fever the rage the feeling of powerlessness that turns good men cruel "
I binged your whole reaction series to Arcane, it was great! I feel like I've learned a lot by watching your reactions and they've helped me think differently about my own thoughts and emotions. I'm grateful for that.
They say the last act of Powder was to kill SIlco, and her first act as Jinx was to bomb the Council.
That line from Viktor,In the Pursuit of greatness...we forgot to do good,is such a perfect line
I love how the show ends up making you sympathize with silco, no matter how repulsive he is presented at the start.
Yas, finally. I've been dying to see you react to the final episode. I love how you explain what's going on in these person's minds and how that can lead to further problems and how to possibly overcome them.
This show is a masterpiece. Really liked your insights.
I agree and thank you so much. This is the perfect show to dive deeply into.
Yea you need to hit up that second season
Hey!!!
I really love your videos to Arcane!
The 2nd Season ist out now to watch completly!!
I would love to see your reaction to Season 2 aswell!
Your little comment about Vander is almost exactly true ⚠️POSSIBLY A SLIGHT SPOILER?⚠️
He becomes Warwick, and I’m pretty sure there’s a short snippet of him too that you may be able to find floating around
She Jinxed it.
I just finished watching the 9 episodes of your reactions and I can't believe that I just found out about these, I love this videos, the way you explain them and analyze it's great, plus it's awesome to learn some psychology and mental states while having fun 😃
Season 2 now pleaseeee
Thank you for such an insightful set of videos about these characters, it's been a joy to watch, and along the way you seem to have been hooked on the series as much as anyone.
Thank you for your reaction/commentary on Arcane. It was very insightful getting your take on the mental health aspects of it.
And also thanks Arcane for introducing me to the truth doctor (I'm currently on ep4 of "HUMAN First").
I have watched this finale several times now... I will always tear up... It was great hearing your thoughts on the characters and their actions.
I love your analysis doctor, I hope yuo have the time to react to everything everywhere all at once, the mental health in that movie is so cool
Second season in a few months!! I can't wait to see you react to it!
Thank you for reacting to Arcane! I love your videos and I hope your chanel keeps growing so more people can enjoy them ❤
What a great run! Thanks for doing this series, can’t wait to see what’s next!
16:27 when the therapist needs therapy 🤣also it’d be cool to see a reaction to all the hidden secrets and Easter eggs like viktor out running the ship
I wish people would analyze Vi’s trauma.
I'm so glad somebody has finally made a comparison of Jayce and Vander. There's a whole bunch of parallels between those characters!
Pleaseeeee react and post season 2. After seeing your reaction to this, you NEED to see season 2!
Honestly this was wonderful Extremely well done, and very informative. Bravo
16:40 you could say she jinxed it... again lol fitting name
@@danc1513 No one is saying that it's Vi's fault, just that that is the way it is.
loved, your reaction to this series! looking forward to your future content :)
omg! I've been waiting for this!
Cool reaction, as usual! though I did thought you were going to say something about the Finn-scene, where Seveka decided to stay faithful to Silco.
