@@oxirylexirae5981 "Renaissance India". Medieval India was Gupta empire, Delhi Sultanate etc. Mughals were renaissance as they got support from both the ottomans and safavids around the same time as the siege of Vienna
@@tausifchowdhury8180 I dont think so. Just because their time coincides doesn't mean that they can be called the same. The European Renaissance was characterized by a revival of classical learning and values, with a strong emphasis on humanism, art, science, and exploration. It marked a significant shift from the medieval period to modernity in Europe. 19th century is often considered as the beginning of Indian Renaissance as it was a period of intellectual, cultural, and social reform. In every history book I have read , Gupta era is considered classical as it was the continuation of the Magadhan dominance starting from the days of Bindusara and Ajatshatru. The Gunpowder Empires could be seen as Early Modern, but cannot be considered for Renaissance. But an argument in the context of Islamic Renaissance could be made.
@@Aryan-wl1pu They are Early Modern or Proto industrial civilizations. But they're still a part of the wider renaissance era as it refers to a period of time as well as the movement. The Mughal rule in India also marked a significant shift in Indian culture, society, technology, economy and overall history. Sure, the Mughals weren't as philosophical as the Europeans were but they're still Renaissance era civilization. In fact, the reason many don't acknowledge it as one is due to the Mughals spending the Renaissance period in decline in the late 1600s to early 1700s. Especially after Aurangzeb (that A- hole managed to single-handedly destroy everything his forefathers ever worked for) and wars with the Marathas and Afsharids. But it is a known fact that Mughal reign coincided with tge Renaissance and even kept regular contact too. How do you think the Europeans got to trade here? The Mughals already knew about them. They weren't as backwards as they seem in history.
@@tausifchowdhury8180 I very much agree to your all of the assessments. The point of contention is Can they be considered a Renaissance era civilization? There are certain characteristics of Renaissance era. It is humanism, cultural revival, intellectual awakening, social reform, decline in feudalism, scientific and technological revolution, and these are not the traits of Mughal era. I agree that Mughal era brought new changes to Indian art and architecture as we see the Persian influence. But those were not a revival of something. There were technological advancement but the Mughal advancements were often more focused on aesthetics, administration and integration of diverse cultural influences, whereas the Renaissance emphasized individual enquiry and the scientific method(Empiricism). The European Renaissance was marked by a revival of classical learning, leading to breakthroughs in various sciences, including anatomy, physics, and engineering. Figures like Leonardo da Vinci and Galileo Galilei pushed the boundaries of knowledge with empirical observation and experimentation, which laid the groundwork for modern science. You don't find their equivalents in Mughal era. The timeline for European renaissance is (mid 14th to mid 17th century). That means it had already come to and end there before even Aurangabad rose to the throne. Their engagement in trade was more a function of economic necessity than a reflection of shared renaissance spirit. It is the 19th century where we find the traits of renaissance in Indian context which were Social reforms, revival of interest in Indian culture, philosophy, and literature.
