I own a 1999 Villager and have dealt with misfires, both due to an intake manifold leak, then a fuel injector another time. Always cheered to find anyone doing analysis on my vehicle. All the better when someone at the Danner level of diagnosing is the person. PS: My Villager had a knock sensor issue on a prior occasion. $600 for removing intake manifold to get at the $20 part. At least the repair (which had set a code) turned out to be the actual cause.

I went from making 33,000 in south Texas to making almost 100,000 a year . Trust me it's worth it, I'm working on F250s Diesel 6.7L from 2012 to 2017s and I'm telling you having great foundation is the key to success. You don't have to believe me try the 14 day trail. If you want to change parts till it fixes a vehicle this is not for you, If you want to diagnose a vehicle that 3 other mechanics worked on and couldn't fix it but you come across it and find a shorted map sensor guess who makes the big bucks. YOU !!!!

I’m a truck driver from Harrisonburg, VA. I have always worked on my own vehicles, and decided to start doing side work in the evenings and weekends on vehicles of friends and family. I became a SDP subscriber to get a better understanding of scan data. The ScannerDanner Premium videos and training have opened up a whole new world of diagnostics for me. To be able to not just read a scanner code and blindly replacing a part and hope that its the fix is amazing. To know how to test components and wiring harnesses and circuit to not just find the problem but to understand exactly what caused it is what its all about. Throwing an AutoZone bag of parts at a vehicle hoping to fix a problem does no good if the issue is still there and the MIL is still on and the car is still running like crap. Great video, Paul. Nice to see a father and son together sorting out the cars. Too rare these days. You always put up great content and I agree that the basics never change. I do very little with diesel as well, but still know how to check a sensor or fuel pump or..well, you get the point. Keep up the great work!
I'm from Norway working as a ford master tech. Followed Paul for over 2 years now and have his book and just got the 4425 pico. As he said, even if he doesn't work on diesel engines, the fundamentals can be applied to anything. He is a lifechanger!
ScannerDanner, I'm a heavy truck tech from Southern California. Been doing it for going on 11 yrs. I primarily work on heavy duty diesels but I also get gas engine motorhomes and sometimes small pickups with gassers in them. I picked up a vantage pro about a year ago and it was because of watching your videos, I knew I needed to get in on the scope game! I saw them when I was in school for automotive but never realized the POWER of the scope until a year ago. It has totally changed my diagnostic technique along with how you go about your diagnostics. You have helped me TREMENDOUSLY and yes the theory crosses over to diesels. Most sensors and ECMs on even the big diesels all use the 5V ref's so it definitely crosses over. Thank you and keep it up. His premium channel is legit people. Been a subscriber for a long time. From Wichita Kansas. I went from lube tech to lead tech and my last shop in a matter of 3 years. Granted part of that was we had a lot of people leave but no one wanted to do the trouble shooting. I found electrical diagnosis fascinating. I watched his videos for countless hours learning this stuff. I'm in the motorcycle business now and some of this does transfer. Paul's teachings have kept food on my table and am forever grateful.

I learned more from Paul's videos in 6 months than I learned in my 8 years as a mechanic in Australia in the past 2 Years I have come so far in diagnostics still no were near as good as Mr danner but I have the confidence to trouble shot the basics with no specific info on the vehicle to rule out easy stuff. I'm generally excited when there is a problem or a check engine light to diag as I used to bet stressed about it 😂 fantastic teacher and all round humble dude

A lot of bases covered here. It's also good having a rookie learning the game ask these type of questions so as to bring up concerns one might not think of themselves when watching the video. Commendations Paul on going that extra mile and pulling out a spark plug with the compression / no compression sound test considering it did not even have a compression issue. It shows you care about your viewers.
GREAT WORK ...I'm retired and do this for a hobby on occasions but if I was looking at starting out as a young guy I would definitely start out at rosedale in Scanner Danners classes. I see why you pinned Andrew Hinojosa's comment Paul. That says it all.

Excelent explanation as always! So now I Know that the peak voltage induced by the magnetic field of the fuel inyector coil when closing describes the amount of magnetic field created by a good or bad inyector depending the case scenario, for instance a bad inyector coil winding is not going to be able to create 80, 70 or 60 Volts peaks because that fuel inyector winding has a higher than normal resistance. in instead it will have a low peak voltage due to a low magnetic field collapsing back to the winding once the inyection cicle ends. Argeny Sandoval - Key here is to remember the increase in injector coil resistance limits the injector current when activated and therefore results in a weaker fly back voltage.

I'm a premium subscriber and have been so for about a year or a little less. I've had the book, however, going on 4 years. Paul teaches the "fundamentals", as he calls it, which applies to just about every electronic system on a vehicle or equipment. You may have knowledge on how things work, how to do diagnostics, but the information Paul provides just enlightens us that much more. He shows techniques that cut down diagnostic time to a minimum without removing many components, if any at all. This is completely unlike the manufacturer way of doing things or their testing procedures, which are highly invasive and not accurate enough in results. I've grown ten fold in the time I've been watching Paul's videos. My speed to get to the root of issues has increased, which in turn gives me more time to work on other vehicles and equipment or just to cut off early and spend time with family. If debating whether to subscribe to the website, don't hesitate. You'll make your money back and find less stress while doing so.

Great video! I am a former Nissan master tech who went off on his own. Today I just replaced an injector on a 92 pathfinder that my old dealership diagnosed as needing an engine. They came to me for a second opinion. I performed my diagnosis almost to to the t as yours. Your videos are invaluable to young techs and even for me. Love what you are doing. And ps to any one wanting to know if theres money in this I make over 100k a year in fl. And if you love it and treat people right and have pride in what you do you Can make a nice living
I believe the downward spike of the injectoir signal after the injector shuts off, is called back-EMF. It is caused when the injector closes and induces a negative voltage spike. I love watching these videos!

Great Video as always! This one brought back memories. Had a 1999 I used for work that went 323K. Got really good at diagnosing misfires and changing injectors (although cylinders 1-3-5 were a pain). There were many. Used to keep one and a distributor on the shelf. LOL Glad you showed us shadetree guys how you can use a ohm meter to check the injector coils.
Just remember when an ohmmeter shows you the component is bad, it is bad but when an ohmmeter shows you a component is good, it can still be bad lol. The downside of resistance measurements.

As far as learning is concerned you need to put lot of basics togather to adapt newer stuff like diesel, its not like one course fits all but if you want to be an diagnostic technition this is the base platform where you can build upon. Always esp enjoy vids with Caleb in there. As a former foster dad to 70 plus kids it's always good to see passionate mentoring and an eager to learn student. Started wrenching in the 70s and I knew I needed to study if I was to be a top tech. No internet but I read a lot and invested in great training seminars with teachers like Jerry Truglia. SDP has been my best investment to date. Even with decades of training and experience Paul's book and videos have much to offer. Some is a review but a ton is new techniques that are an absolutely must. Nothing like it on the net IMO.
Extremely informative video, I learned more in this video alone than I have in multiple others I've seen in the past week. I was hoping in this particular video you could have demonstrated to your son and viewers the injector pindel hump on the good cylinder and not see it on the bad cylinder, demonstrating the mechanical opening and closing of the injector pindle. Great diagnostics! A scope isn't everything, but it's essential, and can find problems that a scan tool won't or can't find! One more thing. With all the electronics on board new vehicles, the scope will even MORE VALUABLE when diagnosing these new systems! Just remember, scan tools and even lap top diagnostic systems have fixed programs, whereas, a scope can "Turn On A Dime" or vary because its looking at signals in locating problems!

Great job Cameraman Caleb you seriously asked some really great questions, you should get a mic to. SDP has really helped me out a lot. When I discovered Paul's channel I didn't own my own scan tool, now several years later I have a verus edge, Pico scope with WPS500 pressure transducer, and a crap load of other diagnostic tools and accessories. Great video, as always. I just bought myself that AESWave kit and it's on it's way to me as I type this, to go along with my Vantage Pro (can't afford the Verus or the Pico)...was sure wishing there was a ScannerDanner discount code, as it's a bit expensive, but...I only need it because of what I've learned on this channel, but even more so, on the premium channel. I made a similar comment on another video that I initially signed up for the 14 day trial, figured I'd watch as many of the videos as I could and then cancel...what can I say..I'm a cheapskate. What I learned there changed my life and I have been a subscriber ever since. Anyone serious about diagnosing and fixing cars will not be disappointed. I also recommend buying his book to follow along through the course. My book is filled with notes and I refer to it often. I am not a mechanic by trade. I'm a corporate pilot. I live in the Charlotte, NC area and have been making money on the side on my days off with car repair and diagnostic. It's very satisfying when I'm able to fix things that local shops couldn't. This has happened to me twice since becoming a SDP member. I don't have all the expensive equipment but I picked up an old Autel DS708 with the last update on it on Craigslist for $225 and a Vantage Pro with 16.4 on eBay for about $650 and has set me on my way for now. I appreciate the time and effort Paul puts in, and now the time and effort that Caleb puts in. It has taken me to that next level of knowledge for very little money and I am so grateful for what they do.
Awesome, awesome, awesome! Tell Caleb to keep asking questions since I'm learning a lot with his good questions! What's also pretty interesting is messing around with a scope on your computer and playing with a DC motor. I was doing this with my kids earlier today and spinning a DC motor and watching the voltage it was creating on Pico scope. I have a little pico 2204a for only a hundred fifty bucks and it does quite well for DIY automotive and hobby uses and you can learn a ton just by watching how current behaves on a scope when you're sitting in the comfort of your own home messing around.
Great info. I had an injector problem on my old VW PD diesel that only occurred with a warm engine like u said. Turned out it was the wire harness under the valve cover(injectors located there too). Luckily I read that same issue that many others had because mechanic wanted 800 euro to replace the injector. Didn't make much sense to me how temp affects a wire harness, but for the two years I owned the car after that it never did it again.

I continue to learn on a daily basis from each video and its always there in the background for quick reference if your stuck with a vehicle fault or not sure what readings you should be seeing on your dvm or scope.With a 14day trial what have you got to loose.The only downside for me is that being in the UK we deal mostly with diesels. I'm in the UK and started watching SDP about 4 years ago, changed my life, I was in a aftermarket workshop just finished my apprenticeship and always struggling to fault find and diagnose even the other older guys were because things have changed so much, found and started watching danner after work and at night took that knowledge I learnt from him and put it in to practice and diagnosed a DPF pressure sensor wiring fault on a diesel car so danner is right when he says it's just fundamentals proof is here haha, decided to go to a dealer and 3 years on I'm an accredited master tech, still find older technicians that have been left behind and haven't kept up still throw around there experience and then struggle to diagnose something and don't listen because your a younger tech, only a few stubborn ones out there though changing 1000 pound ecus without testing first because they've seen it before after being a parts changer on that same job that they seen it before on , anyways awesome work guys can't thank you enough and Caleb get learning man this stuff is gold and awesome job on the video work

I own a 1999 Villager and have dealt with misfires, both due to an intake manifold leak, then a fuel injector another time. Always cheered to find anyone doing analysis on my vehicle. All the better when someone at the Danner level of diagnosing is the person. PS: My Villager had a knock sensor issue on a prior occasion. $600 for removing intake manifold to get at the $20 part. At least the repair (which had set a code) turned out to be the actual cause.

I went from making 33,000 in south Texas to making almost 100,000 a year . Trust me it's worth it, I'm working on F250s Diesel 6.7L from 2012 to 2017s and I'm telling you having great foundation is the key to success. You don't have to believe me try the 14 day trail. If you want to change parts till it fixes a vehicle this is not for you, If you want to diagnose a vehicle that 3 other mechanics worked on and couldn't fix it but you come across it and find a shorted map sensor guess who makes the big bucks. YOU !!!!

I’m a truck driver from Harrisonburg, VA. I have always worked on my own vehicles, and decided to start doing side work in the evenings and weekends on vehicles of friends and family. I became a SDP subscriber to get a better understanding of scan data. The ScannerDanner Premium videos and training have opened up a whole new world of diagnostics for me. To be able to not just read a scanner code and blindly replacing a part and hope that its the fix is amazing. To know how to test components and wiring harnesses and circuit to not just find the problem but to understand exactly what caused it is what its all about. Throwing an AutoZone bag of parts at a vehicle hoping to fix a problem does no good if the issue is still there and the MIL is still on and the car is still running like crap. TAKE PAULS CLASS PEOPLE. It is worth the money!!!! And Caleb, thanks so much for all you do for the ScannerDanner brand. You and your dad are awesome. Thank you both!

Great video, Paul. Nice to see a father and son together sorting out the cars. Too rare these days. You always put up great content and I agree that the basics never change. I do very little with diesel as well, but still know how to check a sensor or fuel pump or..well, you get the point. Keep up the great work!

I'm from Norway working as a ford master tech. Followed Paul for over 2 years now and have his book and just got the 4425 pico. As he said, even if he doesn't work on diesel engines, the fundamentals can be applied to anything. He is a lifechanger!
ScannerDanner, I'm a heavy truck tech from Southern California. Been doing it for going on 11 yrs. I primarily work on heavy duty diesels but I also get gas engine motorhomes and sometimes small pickups with gassers in them. I picked up a vantage pro about a year ago and it was because of watching your videos, I knew I needed to get in on the scope game! I saw them when I was in school for automotive but never realized the POWER of the scope until a year ago. It has totally changed my diagnostic technique along with how you go about your diagnostics. You have helped me TREMENDOUSLY and yes the theory crosses over to diesels. Most sensors and ECMs on even the big diesels all use the 5V ref's so it definitely crosses over. Thank you and keep it up. His premium channel is legit people. Been a subscriber for a long time. From Wichita Kansas. I went from lube tech to lead tech and my last shop in a matter of 3 years. Granted part of that was we had a lot of people leave but no one wanted to do the trouble shooting. I found electrical diagnosis fascinating. I watched his videos for countless hours learning this stuff. I'm in the motorcycle business now and some of this does transfer. Paul's teachings have kept food on my table and am forever grateful.

I learned more from Paul's videos in 6 months than I learned in my 8 years as a mechanic in Australia in the past 2 Years I have come so far in diagnostics still no were near as good as Mr danner but I have the confidence to trouble shot the basics with no specific info on the vehicle to rule out easy stuff. I'm generally excited when there is a problem or a check engine light to diag as I used to bet stressed about it 😂 fantastic teacher and all round humble dude

I also appreciate that he's learning as I am so he asks all the questions that I would ask in order to learn what your looking for and what looks good vs what looks bad. A lot of bases covered here. It's also good having a rookie learning the game ask these type of questions so as to bring up concerns one might not think of themselves when watching the video. Commendations Paul on going that extra mile and pulling out a spark plug with the compression / no compression sound test considering it did not even have a compression issue. It shows you care about your viewers.

Professor Paul really changed my life in this automotive field. From November 2017 till now not even a year...... I'm blessed you do all this work for us. I'm from New Hampshire and it has changed my ENTIRE career for the better. Knowledge is power and I make over $20/hr at a shop with no ASEs strictly due to my diagnostic abilities and case study records for the past few years.
Excelent explanation as always! So now I Know that the peak voltage induced by the magnetic field of the fuel inyector coil when closing describes the amount of magnetic field created by a good or bad inyector depending the case scenario, for instance a bad inyector coil winding is not going to be able to create 80, 70 or 60 Volts peaks because that fuel inyector winding has a higher than normal resistance. in instead it will have a low peak voltage due to a low magnetic field collapsing back to the winding once the inyection cicle ends. Argeny Sandoval - Key here is to remember the increase in injector coil resistance limits the injector current when activated and therefore results in a weaker fly back voltage.

Great video Paul! I hope others watching this appreciate all the extra steps you took showing the different ways to diagnose a bad injector even though just minutes in you knew what was wrong. I'm a premium subscriber and have been so for about a year or a little less. I've had the book, however, going on 4 years. Paul teaches the "fundamentals", as he calls it, which applies to just about every electronic system on a vehicle or equipment.
You may have knowledge on how things work, how to do diagnostics, but the information Paul provides just enlightens us that much more. He shows techniques that cut down diagnostic time to a minimum without removing many components, if any at all. This is completely unlike the manufacturer way of doing things or their testing procedures, which are highly invasive and not accurate enough in results.
I've grown ten fold in the time I've been watching Paul's videos. My speed to get to the root of issues has increased, which in turn gives me more time to work on other vehicles and equipment or just to cut off early and spend time with family.
If debating whether to subscribe to the website, don't hesitate. You'll make your money back and find less stress while doing so.

Great video! I am a former Nissan master tech who went off on his own. Today I just replaced an injector on a 92 pathfinder that my old dealership diagnosed as needing an engine. They came to me for a second opinion. I performed my diagnosis almost to to the t as yours. Your videos are invaluable to young techs and even for me. Love what you are doing. And ps to any one wanting to know if theres money in this I make over 100k a year in fl. And if you love it and treat people right and have pride in what you do you Can make a nice living

I believe the downward spike of the injectoir signal after the injector shuts off, is called back-EMF. It is caused when the injector closes and induces a negative voltage spike. I love watching these videos!

It's obvious from your questions that you understand enough about the materials, to need to know how this works, to understand how that works, and why this or that doesn't work! TRUST ME!! Even if you don't get into auto repairs, diagnostics and fixing them, you'll be so much better off! Fixing your own car, to save money! Fixing your girls car, to impress her! Fixing your neighbors car, to entice a future neighborly swap!! (I'm a back yard mechanic, my neighbor was a plumber. I fixed his cars, he fixed my plumbing!! wink wink)

Great Video as always! This one brought back memories. Had a 1999 I used for work that went 323K. Got really good at diagnosing misfires and changing injectors (although cylinders 1-3-5 were a pain). There were many. Used to keep one and a distributor on the shelf. LOL Glad you showed us shadetree guys how you can use a ohm meter to check the injector coils.
Just remember when an ohmmeter shows you the component is bad, it is bad but when an ohmmeter shows you a component is good, it can still be bad lol. The downside of resistance measurements.
Got the book a year or two ago and it has made me a better mechanic. Thank you form the Blue Mountains west of Sydney Australia.

As far as learning is concerned you need to put lot of basics togather to adapt newer stuff like diesel, its not like one course fits all but if you want to be an diagnostic technition this is the base platform where you can build upon. Always esp enjoy vids with Caleb in there. As a former foster dad to 70 plus kids it's always good to see passionate mentoring and an eager to learn student. Started wrenching in the 70s and I knew I needed to study if I was to be a top tech. No internet but I read a lot and invested in great training seminars with teachers like Jerry Truglia. SDP has been my best investment to date. Even with decades of training and experience Paul's book and videos have much to offer. Some is a review but a ton is new techniques that are an absolutely must. Nothing like it on the net IMO.

Extremely informative video, I learned more in this video alone than I have in multiple others I've seen in the past week. Even though I'm an elite driveability technician in my area I find your premium channel educational and critical to keep me up on the fundamental of our field. I was hoping in this particular video you could have demonstrated to your son and viewers the injector pindel hump on the good cylinder and not see it on the bad cylinder, demonstrating the mechanical opening and closing of the injector pindle. Great diagnostics! A scope isn't everything, but it's essential, and can find problems that a scan tool won't or can't find! One more thing. With all the electronics on board new vehicles, the scope will even MORE VALUABLE when diagnosing these new systems!
Just remember, scan tools and even lap top diagnostic systems have fixed programs, whereas, a scope can "Turn On A Dime" or vary because its looking at signals in locating problems!

Great job Cameraman Caleb you seriously asked some really great questions, you should get a mic to. SDP has really helped me out a lot. When I discovered Paul's channel I didn't own my own scan tool, now several years later I have a verus edge, Pico scope with WPS500 pressure transducer, and a crap load of other diagnostic tools and accessories. Great video, as always. I just bought myself that AESWave kit and it's on it's way to me as I type this, to go along with my Vantage Pro (can't afford the Verus or the Pico)...was sure wishing there was a ScannerDanner discount code, as it's a bit expensive, but...I only need it because of what I've learned on this channel, but even more so, on the premium channel.
I made a similar comment on another video that I initially signed up for the 14 day trial, figured I'd watch as many of the videos as I could and then cancel...what can I say..I'm a cheapskate. What I learned there changed my life and I have been a subscriber ever since. Anyone serious about diagnosing and fixing cars will not be disappointed. I also recommend buying his book to follow along through the course. My book is filled with notes and I refer to it often.
I am not a mechanic by trade. I'm a corporate pilot. I live in the Charlotte, NC area and have been making money on the side on my days off with car repair and diagnostic. It's very satisfying when I'm able to fix things that local shops couldn't. This has happened to me twice since becoming a SDP member. I don't have all the expensive equipment but I picked up an old Autel DS708 with the last update on it on Craigslist for $225 and a Vantage Pro with 16.4 on eBay for about $650 and has set me on my way for now.
I appreciate the time and effort Paul puts in, and now the time and effort that Caleb puts in. It has taken me to that next level of knowledge for very little money and I am so grateful for what they do.

Awesome, awesome, awesome! Tell Caleb to keep asking questions since I'm learning a lot with his good questions! What's also pretty interesting is messing around with a scope on your computer and playing with a DC motor. I was doing this with my kids earlier today and spinning a DC motor and watching the voltage it was creating on Pico scope. I have a little pico 2204a for only a hundred fifty bucks and it does quite well for DIY automotive and hobby uses and you can learn a ton just by watching how current behaves on a scope when you're sitting in the comfort of your own home messing around.
Great info. I had an injector problem on my old VW PD diesel that only occurred with a warm engine like u said. Turned out it was the wire harness under the valve cover(injectors located there too). Luckily I read that same issue that many others had because mechanic wanted 800 euro to replace the injector. Didn't make much sense to me how temp affects a wire harness, but for the two years I owned the car after that it never did it again.

I live in Elko Nevada and I own mobile wrenches I am a mobile mechanic. I started watching this channel about six months ago I now have shops calling me to come diagnose vehicles and making way more money. UTI is $100,000 school scanner Danner is $11 a month you learn way more from scanner danner then you would at UTI keep up the good work.

Ive been subscribed to the premium channel for a few months now...Working my way through the classes in order is like being in the actual class.. Along with all the reference videos and case studies its well worth the monthly fee. I continue to learn on a daily basis from each video and its always there in the background for quick reference if your stuck with a vehicle fault or not sure what readings you should be seeing on your dvm or scope.With a 14day trial what have you got to loose.The only downside for me is that being in the UK we deal mostly with diesels. Mr danner we want diesel vids... No only kidding I know you don't get many over there..

"I see you mostly work on American cars and almost no diesel engines, how can I benefit from your classes when I work primarily on European diesel systems?" I'm in the UK and started watching SDP about 4 years ago, changed my life, I was in a aftermarket workshop just finished my apprenticeship and always struggling to fault find and diagnose even the other older guys were because things have changed so much, found and started watching danner after work and at night took that knowledge I learnt from him and put it in to practice and diagnosed a DPF pressure sensor wiring fault on a diesel car so danner is right when he says it's just fundamentals proof is here haha, decided to go to a dealer and 3 years on I'm an accredited master tech, still find older technicians that have been left behind and haven't kept up still throw around there experience and then struggle to diagnose something and don't listen because your a younger tech, only a few stubborn ones out there though changing 1000 pound ecus without testing first because they've seen it before after being a parts changer on that same job that they seen it before on , anyways awesome work guys can't thank you enough and Caleb get learning man this stuff is gold and awesome job on the video work
