own tissue is always more predictable. donor tissue definitely can be used with very good predictability too but its kind of hard to find a good periodontist that is predictable with it with all your teeth, with any instance of bone loss, etc.

I have question please I also did gum graft on my lower teeth and today I was applying gel and accidentally I touched the gum and it’s moveable🥹is it normal???please and thank u for ur answer!!

@@TenzSang not relating to your question but may I ask how much it cost or was it paid via insurance?
My periodontist told me not to brush any portion of mouth or even swish or spit for two whole weeks. Is this normal? My entire mouth is coated in a sticky layer of food residue and white sloughing tissue from quitting vaping for the surgery (I assume). I’m worried I have tartar and cavities developing because of these aftercare instructions. The mouth washes they gave me are far too gentle to cut through the food and plaque especially without any kind of swishing movement…
Hi, I got my gum graft a week ago, and the pain is gone. I brush my teeth everywhere except the area but no matter, I still have an oder that returns back to my mouth. Is this a sign of an infection? This is the only issue I am having
Same here but day 8 and I have followed every to a T. Horrible smell this AM but not looking because I was told not too but man I’m so sad and scared if this failed, the cost was very high and painful. 🤞🤞it’s going to be ok,if not I’m not doing again
HELP!!! Dr. Choi I've been told that I need another bone graft. The last one I have was in 2007 and it the same area. Now the same aging periodontist wants to do the same procedure. I got to researching and now I'm seeing they are less invasive and modern procedures. Should I say hold up on this procedure? By the way I don't smoke, I don't vape, I'm not diabetic.
Is the graft supposed to slowly grow down over the tooth or do they cover the root right away then it heals. I Just had it and it is the worst pain I ever felt in my life (hypersensitive to pain and etc.) The white pack came off and it dosent look like they covered the root of my tooth. They gave me no antibiotics either. That would have helped with pain and healing. Very little O meds too. Not strong enough. They make me feel like crap anyway.
Today I’m 3 days after my surgery and I had to work and someone made me laugh and it hurt so much (this kind of movement has happened a few times) I’m so scared that my graft is going to fail because it keeps oozing blood (I can see a little in my Invisalign retainers)
@@vanessahuizar11 How do you get a gum graft? Where does the gun come from? A dead body? Also, if you don't mind could you give a ballpark estimate to about how much the cost is? Thanks
I paid $4000 in Canada for 2 little bottom front teeth. I did also have conscious sedation. I hope it works. I'm only on day 4 and I'm a nervous wreck. Plus my allergies are acting up and I've been sneezing and coughing a bit which is making me freak out more.
I had to get it done a 2nd time as during my 1st try I accidentally hit the graft in my sleep. If it's not successful this time, I'm just gonna get the tooth extracted... Ridiculous.
My gums have thinned out over the years of vaping. I didn't know that it could cause this issue. Now I'm depressed about how my gums look and how it's going to affect me in the future. How much does this procedure typically cost doing it with donor tissue? I'd like to do this but I heard it's a pretty expensive procedure and pretty scary too.
@@huntersaunders6136 I'm fine thank you. I went to the dentist to get them checked out but they said that i'm ok. They didn't really agree with me that my gums have thinned out. Which is kind of weird. I know my body and my gums didn't look like this before. Probably because not a lot of research have been put into the effects of vaping to oral health? But I know for a fact that nicotine constricts blood vessels so I can see this having an effect on my gums. What I suggest is to completely stay off nicotine. You might still be fine. How bad are your gums now?
@@Ed-uu9eo I quit a week ago, my front two teeth have recessed and I can tell but I went to the dentist for a check up. I just had a gum graft done last Friday (5 days ago) and the whole area where the graft was located is still nearly as numb as it was during the procedure. It's also looking kind of white in one area, though I try not to pull at my lip or cheek to not disturb it so can't really see all of it. Should I wait one more week for the post-op appointment or request to be seen before then, assuming there's any way to save the graft from potentially failing?

@@imeldacordova7908 hi. No I haven't done gum graft. I had only one tooth with receded gum due to one misaligned tooth. Trying to keep excellent hygiene by water flossing and brushing twice daily.
I had a extraction and gum graft last week. Cheek was swollen for the first few days and bruised. Now i have a big lump between the gum and jaw near the bone graft. I had it done 4 days ago. It almost looks like the gum is caving in on the one side. Is this normal?
@acspectator8636 0 seconds ago I have my graft done of teeth numbers 7,10,11. I have severe bruxism and all I have is just a rubber otc night guard for my lower jaw(I typically make them for my upper jaw). It’s scary to hear some in the comments saying that they can bite down on teeth…when I have been needing to replace the guards every now and then. Despite having told my perios explicitly about it and the possible worst case scenarios. They said I can wear the bottom guard. I hope that they aren’t overconfident or that the stitches are strong enough. I’ve told them how I express that the bruxism could jeopardize everything but they remained confident.
I smoked after my graft was done. Really wish my dentist told me it was a 100% failure rate instead of focusing on the size of the whole that was in my jaw. Guess il have to spend another $2200 right?
I just had a gum graft done 6 days ago and today it was hurting again, I am a heavy smoker - of course I wish to quit - and the periodontist said that smoking would not make it fail, but I don't know, I can see the top of it looks red and I doubt it is attaching properly. What happens if the gum graft fails? I go back to the periodontist to have it checked in a few days.
I think part of my gum graft failed. I got to get stitches out in two days. I've taken care not to disturb the area, but I can feel movement and when I touch it with my tongue, it feels very coarse compared to the other areas that were grafted. Is this feeling a possible indicator or could this mean the donor tissue was applied backwards?
I had mine done three days ago and I can already tell it's failed as some of the parts of the graft that filled in the gaps of the tooth are starting to come off when I breathe. Maybe it was my fault for putting an ice pack on my lip but I didn't do it too hard only left the house once to go to the pharmacy and think I've said maybe like 5 sentences. Haven't brushed it and followed every instruction and honestly I'm praying I'm wrong when I go back in two days for the periodontist to check it. Literally could cry spent so much money and took two weeks off work but hey ho 😫

I bet you got gum grafting already but this is what I got at kriss ai, "gum grafting is a common procedure used to treat gum recession and improve the health and appearance of your gums. However, having a severe autoimmune disease can complicate the healing process and increase the risk of complications, including the potential rejection of donor tissue." Anyway, how was the procedure??

Not much. The procedure sounded to me worse than it actually feels. I got my grafts yesterday, and already I'm off painkillers (all I used yesterday was Ibuprofen). The main problem is not pain but the restrictions on life style, namely, bans on the following: eating foods that are chewy, crunchy, acidic, or hot; leaning on the side of the mouth where the surgery performed as one might be in the habit of doing during sleep; opening the mouth in large movements as during talking; tooth brushing. Most of this, I am told, should be unnecessary after a month, at the end of which I have a post-op appointment to see if it actually worked.
The healing process was brutal. I want to go back in time and slap past me for doing this procedure. I'm sure it is necessary for some people but I think I got suckered in by people looking to make money off me.

Can the hyperplasia tissue on upper back teeth (assuming it is healthy) be used to graft mandible recession?
hey VJ B, unfortunately it cant be. sorry!
I had a gum graft done last week and I’ve noticed that the site was white/grayish/black. I thought it was normal, but grew concerned. I’m going to see my dentist this week, but I the graft fell off.
Did it fail, then?
Which has a better success rate? Using your own tissue? Or donor tissue?
own tissue is always more predictable. donor tissue definitely can be used with very good predictability too but its kind of hard to find a good periodontist that is predictable with it with all your teeth, with any instance of bone loss, etc.
I had a military doctor do my gum graft. And I am skeptical that they performed it well. I’m on day 5 and i think I have some whitening around the gums
call them for a followup asap
Got my stitches and membrane removed last week. Now I'm on week 3 and got very little yellow liquid coming out of a small hole... Haven't even been given antibiotics when I first got it done. Contact doc?
i would just in case..
Hello Dr. Choi, I just got my first gum graft done on my lower left teeth (6 altogether) I am on my 3rd almost 4th day, I have tried not to disturb the area, but I see the very back molar has a patch of white on the bottom (but thankfully the others look like they are healing properly )
I have a follow-up appointment on the 25th, I’m wondering if I should remove that piece of tissue or leave it ? I worry about getting an infection
sorry for the late reply. usually its best to leave it there for a while
How is your gums now?
@ they’ve healed fairly well , thank you.
I have question please I also did gum graft on my lower teeth and today I was applying gel and accidentally I touched the gum and it’s moveable🥹is it normal???please and thank u for ur answer!!
@@TenzSang not relating to your question but may I ask how much it cost or was it paid via insurance?
I had a gum graft a year ago and my gum is right back where I started. It’s right back to receding where it was
My periodontist told me not to brush any portion of mouth or even swish or spit for two whole weeks.
If anyone finds this later. You CAN brush just not the site of the graft.
Hi, I got my gum graft a week ago, and the pain is gone. I brush my teeth everywhere except the area but no matter, I still have an oder that returns back to my mouth. Is this a sign of an infection? This is the only issue I am having
sorry for late reply. did it go away? sometimes people will have that odor until they can brush real well later on
I'm 11 days in and my gum graft is white and I have bad breath don't think it's working it feels like it's falling off . Very nervous
I’m 11 days post op too! It’s a very nerve wracking time!
I hope you went to a doctor about this and realized he can’t give you advice.
Can this happen 4 months post op? (also got an implant at the same time)
Is the graft supposed to slowly grow down over the tooth or do they cover the root right away then it heals.
Today I’m 3 days after my surgery and I had to work and someone made me laugh and it hurt so much (this kind of movement has happened a few times) I’m so scared that my graft is going to fail because it keeps oozing blood (I can see a little in my Invisalign retainers)
hopefully the retainer isn't hitting the gum graft
Any update?
Can this be done if the patient has very little gum bone left?
I had to have a bone and gum graft done
@@vanessahuizar11 How do you get a gum graft? Where does the gun come from? A dead body? Also, if you don't mind could you give a ballpark estimate to about how much the cost is? Thanks
@@thejword the gum tissue came from the roof of my mouth. It costs a lot I paid like $1800 because I went to a periodontist and they charge a lot
@@thejword I had it taken from the roof of my mouth but if possible try getting donor tissues. I think I paid like almost $2k
I paid $4000 in Canada for 2 little bottom front teeth. I did also have conscious sedation. I hope it works. I'm only on day 4 and I'm a nervous wreck. Plus my allergies are acting up and I've been sneezing and coughing a bit which is making me freak out more.
I had a dental implant removed. Now I think I have scare tissue in the back. Can you do a gum graft in the back
I had to get it done a 2nd time as during my 1st try I accidentally hit the graft in my sleep. If it's not successful this time, I'm just gonna get the tooth extracted... Ridiculous.
just make sure to follow your post surgical instructions very carefully
Any update?
@@jdahla503statistically it works fairly commonly. I am sorry yours failed but that’s always a possibility.
How does diabetes effect gum graft failure?
My gums have thinned out over the years of vaping. I didn't know that it could cause this issue. Now I'm depressed about how my gums look and how it's going to affect me in the future. How much does this procedure typically cost doing it with donor tissue? I'd like to do this but I heard it's a pretty expensive procedure and pretty scary too.
I feel you, same thing happening here. I’m only 18 and it feels like my life is over. How are you doing?
The dentist didn’t know much about the effects of nicotine on the gums unfortunately. I briefly explained to her from all the research I have done. My teeth are sensitive and I hate it so much. I used to have fantastic gums and teeth but I can feel them shifting. Just from one year. I wish I could go back in time and never picked one up. I have an ortho appointment this week. It’s a bummer
@George Email Much appreciated! Will make sure to do that
@George Email I’m the same age as you and need to find a periodontist here in Thailand where I live. Need to do a deep clean and gum grafts (if I can find somewhere that does it). I really wish I’d taken better care of my teeth...
How did it go?
How is the gum graft?
Mine too .... what happened after that please respond
My periodontist told me to not worry if the graft turns white. She said it’s normal 💀
Do you recommend pinhole technique in 3 months in case of a graft failure?
I had my surgery a week ago and I see a white patch near one of my teeth. I can’t think of anything else but get over it
Hi, could you please give an update on your situation? I'm about to have the same surgery, and kinda worried of outcomes.
@@azizmalik5224 did you have the surgery ? How does it goes? Thanks
@@imeldacordova7908 hi. No I haven't done gum graft. I had only one tooth with receded gum due to one misaligned tooth. The recession has been there for like 10 years, it was the consequence of my childhood orthodontics. I just decided to live with it now. Trying to keep excellent hygiene by water flossing and brushing twice daily.
I had a gum graft 2 years ago and roots are still exposed. What now?
I did everything right and it failed and I didn't have pain before but have it now- worst decision I shouldn't have made.
I totally agree with you. ☹
Did that heal? Or it was removed? I was told that i should do thia procedure for my implant
I had a extraction and gum graft last week. Cheek was swollen for the first few days and bruised. Now i have a big lump between the gum and jaw near the bone graft. I had it done 4 days ago. It almost looks like the gum is caving in on the one side. Is this normal?
2/4 of mine failed and my perio can’t give me a reason, I have filled post op care %100, these cost a fortune
whats his policy to redo them?
I got bone graft around my implants 2 months ago now. The gum completely receded and metal Screw parts of implants are exposed now. Is this normal?!
unfortunately no

I have my graft done of teeth numbers 7,10,11.
How did it go ?
Cuz I smoked a joint day 4 lol?!?!
Plz reply
Can I have bone graft 1 year after having and implant ? @doctor
Have it fully healed ?
I had mine done three days ago and I can already tell it's failed as some of the parts of the graft that filled in the gaps of the tooth are starting to come off when I breathe. Maybe it was my fault for putting an ice pack on my lip but I didn't do it too hard only left the house once to go to the pharmacy and think I've said maybe like 5 sentences. Haven't brushed it and followed every instruction and honestly I'm praying I'm wrong when I go back in two days for the periodontist to check it. Literally could cry spent so much money and took two weeks off work but hey ho 😫
How did it go did the graft fail???
@Boruto Haise I've no idea if it's failed my periodontist said its too early too tell and to just keep doing the recovery. I've been extremely paranoid about it as it doesn't look like the pictures I see on google of what it's suppost too look like 🥲. But it's only day 7 so time will tell

But a very small part of mine didn't take and its falling off I've no idea if that was suppost to happen but I'm calling tomorrow to get her too look but majority of it has taken and I'm happy with it.
Hi Dr Choi, I have a question my periodontist didn't seem to know the answer to. How long after gum graft surgery until I can perform oral s*x on male partners. Hoping you reply because I'm way too embarrased to ask anyone else!

I have severe autoimmune disease and my body rejects anything that’s not me and even attacks my own tissue. I’m scheduled for gum grafting in two weeks. How likely is it that my body will reject the donor tissue?
I bet you got gum grafting already but this is what I got at kriss ai, "gum grafting is a common procedure used to treat gum recession and improve the health and appearance of your gums. However, having a severe autoimmune disease can complicate the healing process and increase the risk of complications, including the potential rejection of donor tissue." Anyway, how was the procedure??
@@VanessaRodrigo311-nw8ye Hi please tell me more about that kriss ai!
I had a gum graft 5 or 6 days ago, I do vape and have struggled to not do so with my graft, and I’ve hit it very small only a few times each night since my graft because I couldn’t help myself. I know this is incredibly stupid of me but I couldn’t fight my impulse, but now I’m freaking myself out because I don’t know if the graft will work or not off of just a few hits. I’ve been taking care of it and following all other post op instructions, but I just don’t know if it’s working or not. Is there any way I can check or know if I’m still on the right track, or am I screwed because I took a few small puffs? A response would be greatly appreciated because I’m kinda freaking out and I want it to work but I just couldn’t help my self a few times over the past few days
So if I get a gum graft I can’t ever smoke weed or vape ever after the surgery?
at least for the first month
Lol 😂
Got a graft on bottom left nd it didn’t take fully cover. Did it on right & same thing. Redid bottom left while I did some on top and it still doesn’t fully cover

Is post op infection a strong sign of gum graft surgery fail? Is there hope when infection occurs?
heyy i got my frenectomy removed earlier this week like 3days ago or 4 and i heard them say they put a gum graft on it n i have to leave it alone for a week or so to not remove it until i checkup on them again 10days after. thing is earlier today i lifted my lip to see it if the graft was still placed right there between the upper two teeth n it seemed like a hole was in there. like above the graft where the frenectomy was i seen the graft go up but it looked like a hole and i cried n panic i cant find images on google to see how its suppose to look after. is this normal???!! they didnt stitch anything but put a gummy thing on it
honestly its really hard to tell based on your description
How much does a gum graft hurt?
It sucks. A lot
I have had a 3rd degree burn which I had to scrub every day. This was worse than that. It was awful.
It’s different from a person to another, to me it hurts like hell
The healing process was brutal. I want to go back in time and slap past me for doing this procedure. I'm sure it is necessary for some people but I think I got suckered in by people looking to make money off me.
Stick with the pinhole!
i had a gum graft 4 weeks go. I just looked at it and it looks like the grats are pinkish with a little bit of white in them. I read that means they fully generated? But my lower mouth where hte graft was done has been swollen the past few days.
