This channel is by far the best of the best on TH-cam. To sit here and watch uncut interviews with the brains behind our main top sources of inspiration, is truely an eye-opener. No wonder these guys made such deep marks upon the world as both a group and solo artists. Thanks for doing this John. Best regards from The Dusty Michaels
I always thought Pete wrote ‘Let us now make love’. Fascinating. ‘Pacidy’ did have lyrics. It’s part of the first Archive box set. Love those early early tunes.
Invisible Touch is not *quite* as lightweight as you are making out. Lyrics describing kids' faces dissolving in acid rivers, junkies desperate for a fix.. we are not talking Whitney Houston or Lionel Richie here.
John was Ant invited to this ? I know you interviewed him later on but to have him in on this particular part with the other 3 Charterhouse lads wouldve been amazing
I saw your response to a similiar question saying the reason he wasnt was a " band management" decision .WTF does that mean ? Those guys ( especially Pete Mike Tony ) all speak of Ant and his importance in the highest terms, Phil played and sung on Ant's solo stuff, he and Steve have collaborated previously. They guys themselves all seem to get along with him The only thing I can see being a bit awkward is if he was invited and you started things off with the " original 4" when it came time for the post Trespas discussion was Ant sticking around with nothing to say afterwards or maybe awkwardly being asked to leave ? So this was Strat not wanting him there ? @@JOHNEDGINTONDOCUMENTARIES
@@badrogue66 It means exactly what it says. I have no knowledge of whether the band members themselves were consulted. Sorry .I am not going to get into pointless finger pointing - 10 years after the event.
@@badrogue66. My suspicion is that because this is for the documentary, where John says BBC really only gave much of a shit about Phil Collins, then it would be awkward to kind of go "well thanks for this Ant, but would you f*** off now so we can talk to the others about after 1970" There is also the point that its easier to talk about him leaving without him there. Anthony isn't the kind to make a fuss, but you just never know. The intention of these isn't to get into arguments, it got close enough with Stevec and unpleasant enough with Peter. But I think adding him would then have people going "well then what about Ray Wilson?" or Chris Stuart or John Silver, and I think John Mayhew MAY have been alive still at this point. A real interesting comment was made in the genesis book by John Mayhew who said he couldnt really talk because he was hammering out a deal on his royalties, then he died. Hell even Rush has come out with some surprising stories, and this IS a rock band, so I suspect there's LOTS of things behind the scenes that we'll just never know. And frankly really don't need to. But I grew up in the eighties where all these celebrities were held up as being larger than life, these interviews have been great in showing that they are basically just like other musicians in making music.
I love Phil but it's really nice to hear these three together without him. Only a shame Ant isn't in there too. Was this interview conducted before The Five or after?

@@JOHNEDGINTONDOCUMENTARIES Thanks for your reply, and thank you for posting these interviews. Whatever technical issues there may or may not be, it's great that they exist.
"Hustled" their way is very different from "Hassled". Some might even say they charmed their way. It's a matter of perspective. But he did say 'hustled', which in modern terms is a form of business mannerism that is totally acceptable as long as there isn't anything nefarious or deceptive going on. When one is determined, hungry and motivated you get a foot in the door by doing just that.
Well, when you can wrangle all of the former members of Genesis together and interview them, we'd all love to watch your superlative and superior(to this 'inferior' presentation) -results. Best of luck.

Peter: Well my balls had dropped if that's what you mean

I’m running out of ways to say it, but these are always a treat. Many thanks again, John!
I love these uncut versions. The banter between them is great to hear. Thanks for all your work with these interviews!!❤
It’s my absolute pleasure!
Fantastic interview
If all of these segments were released together on dvd I would buy it!

This is really great. Thanks so much for sharing the full interview.

Thanks John, really enjoyed this. Great to hear the guys chatting naturally like the old friends they are.
When Tony gets into talking, no one can stop him.
and love him for that, LOL

Mike is so calm...😊 Perfect 👍
he's basically soloing the others know how difficult he is to stop
Much like how he got his musical bits in. Thank god :). Love watching these videos. Im a massive genesis fan so its a nice treat this
I always wanted to thank these guys for their work, Steve and Phil too of course. Decades of great music.
When Genesis came out witn their 1st album ...I thought i.was listening to the BEE GEES...💯💯💯🥰💯🥰🥰💜💜💜🎧🎤

Thats got ant written all over it. I use the line on my wife sometimes at bedtime, she gets a kick out of it.
@@mikearchibald744 I believe the kids call that ‘having the Rizz’ 👌 Smooth 🫡
Great to see Family get a shout out. Music in a Doll's House, clearly an influence
I believe they were quite a big deal at the time; sadly largely forgotten these days. The follow-up 'Family Entertainment' is also fantastic.
If The Silent Sun would have been a hit, we would have jumped straight to Invisible Touch as the second album. 😂

@jeffsimon9594 It's still mainly "pop music". And pop music CAN have an edge.
What a fantastic video have a wonderful day John also do you have regrets when looking back in life ❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊

It's unfortunate that they never invited Ant to these interviews....
Search for the song Peter mentions (Lee Dorsey) and tell me what it reminds you of?
I was thinking of Sledgehammer. Lee's voice and intonation are just right.

Excuse my ignorance. What was the reunion? Was it just this gathering? Or was there a concert? Seems to have passed me by.
They were releasing the remixed versions of the 70s material.
Ah the ever smiling Tony Banks

Despite their tremendous musical contributions, I’m surprised how inarticulate each of them is
I wouldn't go that far, Peter seems to express himself the best.
