Every Easter, my grandma would wake up the whole house playing this song. Every year, no matter where I am, I continue that tradition. Today is the first Easter since she went to meet Jesus. I'm in my mid twenties, I live out of state, and I'm damn sure I just woke up my neighbors with this song. Hallelujah!
Remembering 35 years ago, still in high school, This song was being played on secular radio. I can recall swirling around my friends room, my arms up high to Jesus, as we danced. There was such joy that filled that place and us, I didn't think I could contain it....... I thought my heart would burst. How can you not rejoice? Jesus is Alive!!!!!!!
I became a Christian back in 9/30/1975 listening to this music has brought a flood of emotions to me. I'm actually typing this with tears in my eyes. This brought me back to a time when God and Jesus was more real to me than anyone.
Thomas Hutchinson You joined the 'family of God the day after my 20th birthday! (and before me! Though He has always been with me - I have ZERO doubt!) Awesome! He is more real than EVER these days, no doubt for me anyway. May God bless you and yours always and forever.. my source, my Savior, my first love - and I pray yours as well!
I was saved at the same time , hardcore drug addict came to know Jesus when he saved my life when I was trying to commit suicide at 15 yrs old , crazy . Jesus is Lord !
He is Risen! This song brings me right back to my 1970’s childhood and our wonderful choir from the church of my youth. We worked for 2 months to get this song just right for Easter service. Great memories of worship.
I am a product of the Jesus Movement in the 70's. I saw @nd Chapter of Acts in concert in Ocala, FL. They remain my all-time favorite group, and this is my favorite Easter song! This song always brings back memories of my salavation.
Favorite Song for sure: I am moved by the many comments and add my prayer: "oh Dear God, give us another pure move of the Spirit in our generation": I am now 85 years old and had the 2nd Chapter as well as most of the Maranatha music come to San Diego when I was pastor of Christian Faith Centre meeting in the El Cortez Hotel...Best of times!!!!
I remember you!!! You came to speak at NEW LIFE BIBLE COLLEGE in Cleveland, Tennessee!!!Norvel Hayes was the founder.I enjoyed your ministry Brother Barnard....watched it on TBN later in life. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMIKY!!!
Yes, I knew their music as a teen and many concerts...your 90 now (so many flourishing ministries back then).....my first pastor is 97 and still alive....I'm 64 and agree completely to the "lost pure gospel", we barely had money.....wow, did we walk in the simple/gentle power of God.....thank you Jerry...see you in heaven!
Been listening to these brothers and sisters since as soon as I got saved in graduate school in the late 70s -- had an important impact on me then and they still do. Such a big blessing to the church. 2nd Chapter bro's sis's - you're getting older like I am but let the Lord work more and more in your life. Be sure are at peace w/ one another & let Lord finish you with grace and mercy and full first-love joy into your more-golden years - my hearty prayer for you and MANY loving thanks.from Oregon
this song has stayed in my heart for 36 years from the moment i first heard it. i think i wore out my vinyl album from then. thank you for posting. this was one of the first groups beginning the current genre of Christian music.
2nd Chapter is one of the first vinyls with christian music I head in the 1970's. Still own "In the volume of the book" and it's amazing to see and hear this music 30yrs. later. Also found that another christian rock band (The Way) republished their work few yrs ago - good music will never die *g* - thanks god!
The First Time I heard this song was back in 78ish in New Castle PA at a little church called World Christian Center. Pastor Gilles Belec invited Bob Noble and the Lost Then Found Group to sing. They performed it beautifully and I shall never forget it. (even though I was about 6 at the time.) GO GOD!
This was the very first song I ever heard of the 2nd Chapter of Acts while I was for the first time in America as a Dutch Naval Officier on board the USS John King (DDG-3) and I immediately fell in love with them. I have attended one of their concerts in Virginia Beach in 1980 or 1981 when I was a student at Rock Church Bible Institute! They took an offering. Their experience was that trusting God this way for their provision brought more than selling tickets for their concerts! WAY TO GO!
Very nice song. Keith Green also recorded this song and he added another part to the song. Both versions are great! The fact that our Lord is risen is Good News enough.
@@TheSirChasman No, Keith Green didn't write this song. Annie Herring of the Second Chapter of Acts wrote it way back in 1974. This was before Keith Green was singing for the Lord. He did, however add a second stanza to the song that the Second Chapter of Acts' version doesn't have. It says "The angels they all surround us and they are ministering Jesus' power, quickly now reach out and receive it for this could be your glorious hour"!
A very innocent time for us back then. We just loved the Lord, very simple. Now they put labels on us all, liberal, conservative, evangelical, NIV, king James, Love the Lord with all you Heart, Mind and Soul. Everything else will fall into place.
Meter - This is the time for Christians to reunite and pray for our whole country to reunite as God's people who love and speak boldly even if we are sent to jail for hate speech. But love those who persecute us and rejoice that we suffer for Christ's Kingdom. Easy to say, so pray that I can live up to this myself.
I knew the original drummer..from the I.a. valley now I'm in Hawaii..so,many years..this music is 'killing' Matthew did his warm ups with me, when they were here in da 80's..(just to be nice) Aloha
I saw Second Chapter live one time decades ago at their height. Noone sings like they do and Matthew Ward is exceptional. Thank you for this video preserving the past.
I was in a church that had much of this kind of music around it, including original things for us. I suppose you could say I was one of the "Jesus People". And I still am. We looked like clean hippies back then- there was all this flowing hair, and very earthy-looking people. The Ecumenical Movement was big- one of the earliest attempts by the larger Christian Church to bridge differences and share common gratitude. It was a very good time for me...we were very happy there in our folky church. I was eighteen. I had received Christ not long before this song became such a treasure....
Thank you so much for this video! I can listen to this song the whole day! I think it's the best easter song ever! I'm going to send it to my sister, she also loves the song. So thank you
what ever happened to this very gifted band of family singing out of jesus's praise, love you guys very much, keep on blessing and singing forever!! :)
I will tell you what happened....the move died, really about 1980. They hung in there, but I feel from their testimony at the time......they retreated (even Matthew to some degree).....Gods still moves deeply, but privately and in smaller, non-money/ego oriented groups/gatherings!
Annie Herring, Terry Taylor and Andrea Crouch were, in my humble opinion, a few of the best Christian writers that has come down the pike. And this one was one of Annie's best. Great song!!!

Hard to believe it has been over 20 years since Annie, Nellie and Matthew have toured together. First saw them in late 70's with Barry McGuire. Remarkable harmonies, wonderful personalities and a dedicated faith, what more could you ask for. Thanks for uploading this.
While reading articles in The Elijah List today I saw the words: "Easter Song." Thinking it was a song from one of John Petersen's cantatas, I clicked the TH-cam link. I've been singing this song (the few words that I do know) for y-e-a-r-s in my private devotion but never knew the name of it, though I knew it was ministered by 2nd Chapter of Acts. Thank you and the great folks at The Elijah List for reviving the spirit of this timeless classic!! You both have really brightened my day!
Roger, the very same thing for me! Song came to mind today among all the present wrapping and typical Christmas stuff including the family arguing Good to remember why our Lord came..
@macpduff Yes, not only do I (we) still remember how grateful we were to be snatched from the jaws of evil-we still celebrate that fact! God dramatically transformed our lives and we have never been the same since! I am so blessed to still be on fire for God at the age of 58-mother of 4-grandmother to 5-and am getting even better at witnessing the miracle of what God did-and WILL DO- in people's lives if they will only let Him! Merry Christmas! Fan the flame and may you bear much fruit for HIM!
@mmlbowl....Hi! I was saved as a young girl but didn't "walk" with the Jesus until highschool. I was baptized with the Holy Spirit Dec 1974, At a Saturday night youth meeting. Boy, did my life change the next year. I stop missing so much School, My lousy grades went to A-B honor roll. And my future began to reay take direction. Thanks for the info on the DVD. I just got a CBD catalog in the mail today so I will check it out. Gosh I had forgotten about Love Song, and Nancy Honeytree.
Happy Easter dear friends and family. This song is one of my favorites and should bring back memories for many from the 1970s and 1980s. The Second Chapter of Acts played at the Taco Bell Arena (back then different name) in 1981, Doug and I were dating at the tine.
might have been 79? anyway great memories that led to great movements by being pioneers. Petra, Keith Green, and even Stryper have all cut their teeth in the Jesus movements. now we have the awakening. Have a Jesus Jammin Day y'all.
Happy Belated Easter, friends! I *almost* got a chance to see 2nd Chapter of Acts during the month or so I spent as a "Big Frosh" at ORU from mid-August through mid-September of 1975. To me, there was a genuineness back then to most of the "Jesus Movement" groups of the late '60s through the early '80s, and I was especially impressed by *this* group. They *look* like the sisters and brother that they are, and the brother (Matthew Ward) seemed effortlessly capable of the kind of vocal acrobatics that are too-often put on embarrassing display by amateurs when they are asked to perform solo versions of our national anthem before sporting events. Fans of Donna Summer should recognize Matthew Ward's soulful and powerful tenor from his pop duet with her from the late '70s: "Love Has A Mind of Its Own." (At the time, *I* didn't even recognize it to be Matthew--singing on a pop/soul LP!?! I just thought it was some lucky back-up singer--I assumed he was a young Black man--who had been given a chance to shine by Miss Summer.) Well, for *me* Easter isn't Easter until I hear what has become my favorite "contemporary" Easter song--quite possibly my favorite Easter song, PERIOD--playing loudly from my stereo early on Easter morning. This wonderful song was written by the eldest sister, and this family was intimately acquainted with grief (*and* joy) by the time *that* happened... There's something about this poorly-recorded video of one of their live performances of *Easter Song" that *gets* me *right **here***... Every time!
@wlknsoon Amen! I was saved in 1974-2nd Chapter was one of the first Christian bands I ever heard - first was Phil Keaggy. Are you aware there is a DVD of many of the early Jesus music pioneers out there done in 2003? You can buy it from CBD online and each person or group does a couple of songs & there are testimonies as well and also a CD of all the songs performed. Folks like Randy Stonehill, Barry McGuire, Love Song, Honeytree, etc.
I have heard this song performed by some of the best in the industry and yet NONE of them get it. They all try to soften this song. This song requires Sharp and Powerful voices. and Power punches at key moments. 2ND CHAPTER created it and Performed it Wonderfully. Why must everyone try to change it. I only wish there was a digital era version done in a state of the art studio sung by the 3 wonderful voices of the 2ND Chapter of Acts. !!! This is truly a Rock Hymn
Back when this song was written we didn't think about these things much, but it would be nice if the song weren't called the "Easter" Song, since Easter is a Pagan holiday. The mistranslation of the Greek word for Passover into the English word "Easter" by the KJV translators is why we refer to the celebration of the resurrection as "Easter." That said, I'm a huge Keith Green (writer) and 2nd Chapter fan. Saw 2nd Chapter full band twice, Annie twice and Matthew 3 times.
Remembered 2nd chapter when I just listened to Starland Vocal Band "American Song"... Boy, Phil Keaggy voice great. Who copied whose style? Or did anyone copy? Watched John Denver intro Starland... Hope that he is above now... I liked him, but a message AND great music won me over re: 2nd Chapter, when I heard them (belatedly) after 1980...
Can you, Mr. Lee Jones, make a video on how to play the bass line of this song? It is a great one, and I just can't find a video that does a good job of showing it played well.
I didn't know about Rock House, but loved the Jesus Festival. Do you remember Alpenglow band? They had an amazing percussionist. Wish I could find a video of them!
Lee, thanks again so much for putting these songs out. I listen to this concert almost every morning while I am at my computer. In fact, I got kind of interested in Second Chapter again and bought Matthew's autobiography (a great read). He had some really fun stories in it (like Phil Keaggy falling asleep in a storage crate). I was wondering if you have a favorite story as well. Thanks again! Ken

Amen … I can picture that special scene … it’s all about Jesus
A friend took me to see 2nd Chapter of Acts late 70's early 80's. I've been a fan ever since. Thank you Jesus for watching over me.
Got saved Nov. '75. 2nd Chapter Of Acts is one of the groups that kept strong in the LORD!
2nd Chapter of Acts lead me to give my life to Christ in 1980. Love them!

The BEST Jesus Rock song , EVER!!!!!! Hope to hear it like this, in Heaven, on day.
My mum and dad used to play 2nd chapter of acts to me when I was little- matthew ward has the most wonderful voice! Beautiful servants of the lord!
Still can't get over Matthew's colorful harmonies. Gives me chills!! They all just blend beautifully with their unique gifts.
this song has stayed in my heart for 36 years from the moment i first heard it. i think i wore out my vinyl album from then. thank you for posting. this was one of the first groups beginning the current genre of Christian music.
Siblings just sound good together. Beautiful song from a beautiful era.
Man, I wish I could live back then just for a short time. Keith Green, these people.

The GREATEST Christian music group EVER!
Wow, thank you so much, one of my favorite songs ever, Praise His Holy Name, He's Risen! What harmony, I love 2nd Chapter of Acts.
So many memories of those days when we the youth worshiped a risen savior. May the youth of this day return to those days. Jesus be praised.

Beautiful song I remember the song When I was a teenager I love it and Matthew Ward can really sing you can really hear him
Love it, Jesus movement was just phenomenal period in my life. ❤️❤️❤️😊
I was at Jesus 76 and heard this in Orlando Fl. Best summer ever!
Matthew's soulful vocal runs play perfectly to that of his sisters' styles. Love...

The ‘ecumenical movement’ back then was simply Jesus, and read your Bible. Today’s EC is something different, it is a false church with a false Jesus.

Thank you SO much for posting this!!! I LOVE it! My FAV Resurrection Day song! Praise Jesus!! :D
I have played this wonderful song on chuchorgan Easter morning in a church not far from Kristiansand, Norway. Thank you and Gods bless!
This is my favorite Resurrection song!
Annie Herring, Terry Taylor and Andrea Crouch were, in my humble opinion, a few of the best Christian writers that has come down the pike. And this one was one of Annie's best. Great song!!!
Plainly obvious is Matthew's incredible harmony thoughout this wonderful song!
Great song! Need more TH-cam videos of songs by 2nd Chapter of Acts. They're a great group!
thank you for posting this. I was so looking forward to hearing it at Church today, and they didn't play it! So disappointed, but glad I found it on your channel. thank you!!
Thank you thank you.....love their music!!!!!
Wow, thanks for this video. I love 2nd Chapter of Acts.
2nd chapter of acts are the only one's that can excite you when they sing it ! let's just admit it , they got the anointing !!!! Come on , I know you all out there want to agree with me , COME ON I KNOW YOU WANT TO !!!!!!!!
Excellant show. My wife and i saw them in place of Keith Green after the plane crash. It was a joyful and very sad time. We saw a huge video of Keith. This was at jesus nw vancouver wash.

It brings back good memories of when I was baptize,in the orange River of ft Myers FL 1977
Happy Easter! Here's the reason. I remember singing this so many times.
They look so different in the 80s! I had older cousins, so I met their music as a little kid in the late 70s.
STILL RESOUNDS STILL RESOUNDS AFTER ALL THESE YEARS! We sang that one in the 1970's
We Boomers still love you and your music!
Have a wonderful Easter. He is alive. You can have the Spirit of the living God dwelling in you. Just ask!

I Love Them So Much!!!!!!!
One of the most powerful songs.
I first heard this song by Keith Green, with the Bill Maxwell drums and production. 2nd Chapter is great!
RobL2756a "Easter Song" was actually written by Annie Herring, or "received" by her as she has said. Keith added a verse. They were good friends.
I'm trying to figure out who these (band) guy are..
My friend played on their 1st album..Aloha
Matthew Ward's tenor range is outlandish!
joyous news of the Resurrection of the Perfect Lamb of God now King of the Universe.
Happy Belated Easter, friends!

Degarmo and key: Mary, another great resurrection song from a great group
thank you Jesus
remember seeing them perform this at Resurrection City in Oakland in the '70s. Hasn't lost its beauty or power, and still important part of my Easter
I guess this must be there "signature' song. It seems like this song is the "Backbone" of their tour and ministry.
You think Annie is a soprano? :) WOW! Matthew's voice is one of a kind and Nellie is amazing too.
This music is so good that i have lost my head temporally.
@wlknsoon Amen! I was saved in 1974-2nd Chapter was one of the first Christian bands I ever heard - first was Phil Keaggy. I only wish there was a digital era version done in a state of the art studio sung by the 3 wonderful voices of the 2ND Chapter of Acts. !!! This is truly a Rock Hymn
YESS JOY TO THE WORLD!!!!
I always like 2chapter of acts
This song lit my Little Light...
Still relevant in 2020 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Especially in 2020! #TheLordIsRisen
AMEN
Good one James ~ Happy Easter!
@RudyGrace1: It's "Spin Your Light" from the Singer Sower album. There's a live cut of it here on TH-cam...I was just watching it.
Oh yeah. This one is among the greats.
Happy Resurrection Sunday everyone!
Ken
