- You want to feel the nostalgia, because the gaming industry let you down the past years? You remember all the good memories you had, when you were a kid and played on your #nintendo #3ds? Now you are on to buy a 3DS on the second hand market. But you are here for the best, because you are older, your eyes getting weaker, so need a bigger screen. Also you maybe have more money now than when Ali were a kid. So you just don‘t go only for the 3DS XL, but the New 3DS XL. And maybe you even look for one with the IPS Displays. And you even managed to find one.
But.. what is this? The one you found d for a good price looks bad on the outside? The painting ist fainting? The chassis is ugly?
Here I am! Showing you what to do, to #refurbish your future #handheld #console so it not only last for years, but looks like on day one again.
Unfortunately, changing the covers on the New 3DS XL is unnecessary hard compared to the totally easy swap on the New 3DS.
And also unfortunately you need to search on the aftermarket to find some third party spare parts.

I found it tilting that you went to all the effort but then didn't work on a soft towel or such like to avoid scratching the new shell - other than that thanks for showing me how its done as that has given me the confidence to give it a try

What type of wipes did u use for cleaning the console in the beginning?
These are some alcohol cloth for medical purpose. You can see them in my video from one month ago, named „How to clean your handheld console properly!“
I love the original new 3DS XL front and back plate as it’s looks nicer especially with the beautiful blue color but the aftermarket cover plate is better as the paint chipping is not going to be a issue.
That's right. Also, the accuracy of fit and the recesses on the different connections are not perfect. But at least a visual fresh-up after a few years.
Where did you get the replacement backplate that says "XL" instead of "LL"? I've been struggling to find one.
I bought them at AliExpress. There was a seller with both plates. The Japan version and the US Version.

Put the link into description with the shells. Why you don't take the console apart for cleaning the plastic and use wipes instate?
I bought the shells from AliExpress. The shells are often only available for a short time and next week there is a new dealer where you can buy from.
And cleaning the surfaces and the little spots and parts inbetween is more convenient than taking the whole device apart. But yeah, it would be a bit more clean at the end. 😊
@@HandHero0711 How much did you pay for them? Did they fit well because a buyer from Aliexpress said this: "thicker than the original, the bottom is more ill fitting than the top. it wasn't fitting around the headphonesl Jack and it was bulging out pretty bad ,I used and exacto knife to shave it from the inside and it fits with almost no bulge now. there is over spray inside too that makes it even thicker you need to shave some plastic off to make it for better bit it still doesn't fit perfectly. there are also some minor bubbles in the clear coat on the top shell. I love that it has the silver diagonal lines under the paint just like the original though. the top fits a lot better than the bottom but it does stick out slightly and when the lid is open and you are looking at the screen you see that the top overhangs a little. I don't think this part can be shaved down like the bottom because there are plastic clips there. shaving the inside of the bottom made a mess too. Overall not bad but not perfect and not as good as the original the console feels fatter now too."
That’s why I don’t like the new 3ds xl build materials. The plates can easily peel off as shown in this example. Mine started peeling the other day.
I kind of prefer the New 3DS more. Because you can swap the cover plates so easy.
But the big screen is really an advantage.

I did my 3ds and unfortunately the bottom one didn’t fit!!
Yeah, it’s a bit flimsy sometimes. Mine fortunately fitted okay, nothing big to complain about. But I can imagine, that they are all a little bit different.
The back plates stink. They are pretty flimsy
Removing the little brackets which are attached to the screws is a nightmare. But the rest is pretty doable.
@@HandHero0711 my backplate caved in where the screws go. Had to order a new one from nintendo. The one i have now is just flimsy you can hear it creek on the side where the screw is and it drives me crazy.
@@Zetchzie How long were you able to buy them from Nintendo directly?
@@HandHero0711 No clue. It was just leftover stock. Couldn't get an exact Black plate so went for the Blue Zelda one.
@@HandHero0711 unfortunately it looks like they all gone. All thats left is 2DS covers and game cases. We really need quality replacement covers. Metal ones if possible.
