Hayden’s complaints are actually the same I have! I think there are a lot of us, we just get drowned out by fans of this book. Lol also, I think if this book bugged you, you will HATE Fourth Wing.
I read this whole series with my husband earlier this year and he actually ended up loving it at the end. We do our own version of DBBC and it’s fun to watch y’all discuss it. So please keep going!

I can’t wait to hear more of you guys’ thoughts on the next books!
I am of the belief that the text *is* trying to say that Celena is the best, baddest, most skilled assassin around, because *all* of the characters believe this by the end, but that the book does a bad job of arguing this, because she is actually making a lot of dumb assumptions and stupid mistakes. I think that’s why so many people find this book irritating and the character annoying.
I’d love to see Haden’s thoughts on the rest of the ToG series. But if you want to move in a different direction, I’d be curious to see his opinions of Fourth Wing!

I think 16-year-old me would have eaten it up but as a 30 something who also reads a lot of good fantasy, I'm pretty in line with how Haden feels. Not a whole lot of character development and I also wanted so much more from the competition! But it wasn't like the worst thing I've ever read.
I’d love to see y’all read The Aurelian Cycle by Rosaria Munda It’s YA, but it’s the BEST political fantasy I’ve read out of that genre. It’s take on class systems, “lesser of two evils” and exploration of trauma is really interesting and done SO well! It’s also slow burn and sort of a reverse Anastasia take lol
First off your videos together are my absolute favorite. Chandler your humor has me dying every time 😂 and Hadens takes are always great! I think a lot of people who read the series can agree that the first book is definitely not the best and I personally didn’t care for the second one too much either. But once the 3rd one hit I was hooked.
I would highly suggest starting with Assasins’s blade first. I do not regret starting with this book first. The rest of the series just went smoothly with this start
I've also also read ToG and plan on continuing with the series, so I completly agree with Haden in the points he made about Chaol and Dorian. I know that Chandler has read the entire series so she might have some biases towards some of the characters, but being in the same boad as Haden and have only read this 1st book, I have the same complaints about the characters (at least up to the 25/50% mark of the video) Also having read this for the 1st time as a 25 y/o it definitely impacted my enjoyment of the book. I will continue because I've heard other people say that it gets better and I know this is SJMs 1st work, but this book was only an okay read for me
I feel like this book is proof Sarah can write, but she has always needed a little more editing than she got. I read this entire series through, and only had a few complaints, but I couldn’t even get through the first book in the Crescent City series.

For me, so far, assassins blade was 4 stars and throne of glass was 3 stars, I'm hoping I like the rest of the seires😂
