I love feeling strong and my strength helps me in everyday life...I do miss a barbell, but I also fell in love with unilateral training. Thank you Justina!
Love this video! Since I’ve found you, I’ve focused a lot more on incorporating functional strength but also learning the risk in a lot of the traditional hypertrophy moves even though one of my goals is building muscle. There’s so much to functional training that I find to be so much more fun and efficient to both the now of getting stronger and later in life!
Remember that there's risk in everything! I definitely don't want you to think I'm demonizing these exercises. Everything has risk, you just have to weigh it against the rewards :)
I actually love doing a combination of hypertrophy and functional. Love lifting heavy as i can but also see the benefit of unilateral training. I think both are important.
Great information! I love unilateral work, and functional training is my tea of choice for the moment. During the chest press, I immediately thought of Team Fornever Lean and how he talks about the elbow angle.
I love this!! Such good breakdown and incorporation of different movement patterns. I'm definitely one that love the traditional functional moves and then add on a few reps of the "extreme" stuff at the end. Really fun! Thanks Justina I am absolutely enjoying your content. It's informational and realistic. Getting a little tired of the overly produced stuff out there with crazy filters!
I love your videos! Instead of front squats (because I hate the position to hold the bar) I do zercher squats, you can't load them that heavy but I find the position a great way to reinforce actively engaging your core in a squat movement.
I dont know how anyone enjoys or safely does an over head press with barbell! I just feel like the likelihood they're doing a back bend to get the bar up is very likely . Unless their face is flat as a board it's likely in their way. Glad there's other options. Loved the video!! Thank you!
I've been doing physical therapy exercises for my knee arthritis, so functional. I'm a pear shape so I do muscle building on the upper body. This method does make me feel better.
Holy schnike!! This is exactly what has been kicking around in my brain for a while, but I haven’t had the terms (labels) to define and refine my approach. Thank you!!!! So very happy to have opened up YT today and check my sub list (you and Briannah Jewel are my faves) PS: one request? Please no more discounting what # you’re lifting or explaining away any regressions. You very clearly stated your workout intentions and goodness!! anyone paying a kick of attention can see that you’re actually working 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻 (I catch myself apologizing or explaining it then remember, dammit! Ain’t no body’s business but my own) 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Any reason not to do both? I’ve been doing Natacha Oceane’s program and I like how we get to do the classic lifts, and track progress on them, and also functional movements (moving in all planes etc.) usually after the big barbell lifts. Great video, as per usual
I just watched a video on ObesetoBeast and rushed over to your channel! I immediately subscribed and I’m learning so much! Do you do online consultation for personalized workout plans? I’d love to get one!
I used to ask my trainer for functional movements and then complain that the movements didn't use barbells (I like lifting as heavy as possible) 🤦♀️ Thanks for showing everything put next to each other! It helps a lot especially since my goal right now is to balance quad dominance
Wow, such a cool video packed with so much good info 💪❤️! I absolutely hate that Turkish Getup thingey 😬🥺😅. I was doing some videos from Sydney and she added those in. And all I could say is: whattt are youuu doing, girl?! Definitely something I am not looking forward to do anytime soon 😜
@@JustinaErcole haha, they are, yeah. I had to go back and forth a couple of times in the video to understand what was happening. I am glad you also confirmed it, so it is not just me thinking that those are though...
If I’m hoping to hypertrophy but only have access to home dumbbells, would I achieve the same results compared to gym barbells as you’re showing in the video? I guess I’m asking whether my hands/grip strength will be limited more by dumbbells than barbell
Hey! This depends on a lot of factors. Your grip strength, weight you have access to, as well as nutrition. But there’s really no reason you can’t work for hypertrophy with dumbbells!

For a moment I thought I clicked on a makeup tutorial by mistake. Great video though 👍 Joel Seedman is a big reason why functional training got a bad name.
@@JustinaErcole YES! lol I have no idea why bcuz you guys really don’t look anything alike but it’s what my brain automatically goes too 😭😂😂 Everytime her videos pop up I’m like “wait isn’t her name Justina?” And then I’ll do the same things when your videos pop up 🤦🏽♀️ I swear for the longest time I thought you guys were the same ppl and I would get so confused lol 😩🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️

So is it just down to weight then? Hypertrophy is higher weight?
