His combination of shred and finesse are the reason why he’s the best guitar player of our generation. Flawlessly combining sweep picks with everything else and it’s all articulated clearly..
As a great guitarist on youtube, Chris Zoupa once said, it's very hard to combine technicality and feel to the perfect blend so that it touches the hearts of all fans. Synyster, congradulations because you managed to do that. Listening to your riffs and solos give me eargasms XD
For radio friendly metal, yes I would agree that he is. But you should expand your horizons if you think he is the best guitarist of this WHOLE generation.
Synyster Gates is by far my favorite guitarist ever!!!!!!!! His style is so clean and impeccable. I love the fire and ice technique. Blues along with harmonic minor scales. And don't even get me started on his sweeping abilities. Phenomenonal!!!!!
I love how Syn has the titanium balls to call his masterclass a bunch of motherfuckers and genuinely does not care that Guitar Center was documenting it
Super Buu Mystic Gohan absorbed Everyone says that though, as great of a song as it is, it just wasn't the ending I was hoping for, wasn't as epic as Save Me was, I love God Damn and Roman Sky though
used to be a vocalist but Synyster Gates made me pick up a guitar. his leads are insanely great. they might not be as fast as other greats, But great melodically and harmoniously.
getting fed up with all these comments saying "this person's better. Syn's this". The reality of it is that Syn is insanely talented at what he does! He knows what he's capable of and he knows what his style of playing is. Plus not to mention the fact that he's clearly enjoying what he's doing. And that's a huge thing! Yes, technicality is great but I'd much rather take influence from someone who plays with feel. Anyone can go home and learn a few scale patterns but if you don't know how to play them with feel, then it's just a waste of time. With that said, Syn rocks. We know he does. Please quit your bitching!
iTryLess in every concert that they dedicate a song to the REV he use it and if they dont dedicate a song to him directly Syn usually uses it during one of the Nightmare songs of their set-list
Actually, you've probably never seen this one becaue the one he used in the so far away video didn't have a sustainiac. I'm not sure why though because in the song there is obvious sustainiac use but he just didn't have one for the video. I didn't even know they made a rev inlay + sustainiac model, it must be super rare. Or after filming the SFA video he got a sustainiac installed and it is the same guitar, but we'll never know.
ThunderHawk606 Schecter never released the Rev inlayed model to the public so after filming the video he either had another made with a Sustainiac or had Schecter install, my best guess is the latter.
Why isn't stuff like this on their new album. I appreciate going back to a sound that everyone knows and loves but capitalize on your talents and progress. This song was SICK and brought me back to the City of Evil days. AWESOME!
que sorprendente lo mucho que syn ha cambiado a lo largo de los años, ahora tiene muchísimos mas recursos, y ese tapping a dos manos!! que increíble, lejos el mejor guitarrista de esta generación
whats the name of the technique or whatever he does at 5:55 besides being called tapping or two handed tapping and are there some other examples someone could show me
The best guitar player of a generation or anything similar is just opinion. Gates is a great player. After seeing this I give him more credit. However fortunately for this current generation their are several future legends. My personal favorite is john 5 or Joe Bonamassa. But that's just my favorite. Just respect the player, their abilities and music. Be thankful we aren't stuck with 1 or 2 great players.
Marco Sfogli = the new generation. Syn has a long way to go, but he's learning. I can tell he's improving a lot. That tone is so horrible though. I wish he would redo his entire sound.
Got to give Synyster Gates so credit. Not much of an Avenged Sevenfold fan but he was so relaxed and in the pocket during that it was ridiculous and when he was getting into it during the slow hand phrases that was awesome. I think that the more he progress...man if he keeps getting better by the time he's 40 he'll be pretty freakin' sweet.
Thanks for posting this Danny! It's hard to get every last detail from my brother (Paul) about the class so I'm glad you recorded it! Enjoy your new guitar!
Why the heck is that guy swaying in and out of the camera, is he pissed ?, cos i know i am seeing his arm and back and not Syn, then the other person joins in on the other side just for good measure, Anyone else screaming at their monitors to get the F out the way lol...Great Video though, Thanks for sharing :o)
If you tap the actual feet fast and hard it rings out a harmonic. They can be moved and stuff too. Eddie van halen's live solos are full of it. Even the mean street intro has it. Experiment and find which ones ring leader for you!
How does he do that tapping harmonic.. Ive been wondering since I saw this vid years ago... And the piano style tapping. Hes gotten so much better since his first lesson videos lmao.
count up 5,7 or 12 frets from the note your playing and instead of hitting the note between frets hit the fret itself and pull off fast or put your index finger where the harmonic sweet spot is and hit the string with your thumb
John Coyne that's one way but the way I do it (not sure if this is what gates does) is I tap and hold my finger on the fret and with the back of my hand I lightly tap a sweet spot further down the neck.
Lukas Harkamp no he hasnt because if you look in the more recent videos, hail to the king etc, and a couple on the nightmare album, he's playing the custom with syn on the inlays, newbie
Awesome! I've been waiting like 4 months for this so it's awesome it's finally here! It sucks the camera crew didn't respect your camera but you did a killer job making the best of the footage you've got. I really appreciate it and am eager to watch the other parts. How long was the class altogether?
The whole thing is to tap it right in the middle of the distance between the fret that you are holding and the Floyd rose !!!(this is how to get a harmonic with tapping) Tell me if it helped you !
Uhh, kinda late to the party but anyone got tabs for his first solo? I really can't figure out the tapping parts and some of the fast runs at the start.
I need the address of the person standing in front of the camera for...reasons
I think you'll have to stand in line for that pleasure damn it. So annoying...grrrrrr
Dat Boi that’s a threat get over it
Lmaaaaoooo
Ikr he needs to move he's blocking our view
:-DDDDD
His combination of shred and finesse are the reason why he’s the best guitar player of our generation. Flawlessly combining sweep picks with everything else and it’s all articulated clearly..
From what I understand he's doing what's called economy picking no?
i love that instead of saying " syn " on his guitar it says " rev "
As a great guitarist on youtube, Chris Zoupa once said, it's very hard to combine technicality and feel to the perfect blend so that it touches the hearts of all fans. Synyster, congradulations because you managed to do that. Listening to your riffs and solos give me eargasms XD
Oh my gosh, at 8:39 I almost clapped too and then I realized that I'm sitting at home by myself watching this video.
I do that every single time I watch a recording of something
best guitar player of this generation.
I wouldn't say the best of this generation in my opinion it is tosin. Abasi of animals as leaders but that's just me saying what I like
maybe i should rephrase one of the best guitar players. he has his own sound and style that he achieved. great soloist as well
For radio friendly metal, yes I would agree that he is. But you should expand your horizons if you think he is the best guitarist of this WHOLE generation.
You're joking
Alexis laiho is better in my opinion
3:58 - 8:47 really should be released as an instrumental on a new album
No man :/
What song
Synyster Gates is by far my favorite guitarist ever!!!!!!!! His style is so clean and impeccable. I love the fire and ice technique. Blues along with harmonic minor scales. And don't even get me started on his sweeping abilities. Phenomenonal!!!!!
Almost 2024, I'm here once again. This is damn beautiful 🥺❤️
Agreed!!!
Gates = Awesome
Guy blocking the camera = &%^$^% !@#!#!$
Man the person that kept walking infront the camera is pissing me off =D
Shh quiet, you might piss somebody off.....wow man this the worst joke ever...hahaha
João Lucas Oliveira Hahah, no, that was perfect! XD
João Lucas Oliveira that's a saying in critical acclaim nice funny a7x foREVer pitches
@@joaolcs we should change it for this occasion to "shhh move it you might piss somebody off" lmao
God dammit get out of the way
Lol I know right
Spud Glassman Right?!!
I know too no 😂
I love how Syn has the titanium balls to call his masterclass a bunch of motherfuckers and genuinely does not care that Guitar Center was documenting it
He's a badass
😂😂😂
"You ready motherfuckers?" Is that the part your referring to?
🔥💯LOVE IT
I'm done.... *throws guitar down and walks out*
ahah agreed
Right? Like at 9:14 "...I can kinda show you some simple stuff, like you just..." *dulududlududludlulddludludluduludu*
Seriously, if anything like this ends up on the next album I'll be god damn stoked
TragicGreek the stage is awesome
Indeed it definitely was, I'm glad I was kinda right on the predicition
TragicGreek Exist is my favorite
Super Buu Mystic Gohan absorbed
Everyone says that though, as great of a song as it is, it just wasn't the ending I was hoping for, wasn't as epic as Save Me was, I love God Damn and Roman Sky though
TragicGreek ik its just really good, all pf the songs are good though
used to be a vocalist but Synyster Gates made me pick up a guitar. his leads are insanely great. they might not be as fast as other greats, But great melodically and harmoniously.
may not have been as fast then, but god damn he is fast as fuck now
getting fed up with all these comments saying "this person's better. Syn's this".

Mike Tipping Wise words guys. Wise words.
WHOA. He brough his REV Custom-S out again. I haven't seen that one since the So Far Away Music Video.
I think he's used it in some live shows, don't remember which though
iTryLess in every concert that they dedicate a song to the REV he use it and if they dont dedicate a song to him directly Syn usually uses it during one of the Nightmare songs of their set-list

yeah, he probably realised that he needed to get one installed so he could have it when they played live.
Guitar skills so good he cloned himself
lol
😂😂😂
Syn is the reason why I bought a Schecter and I'm just loving that guitar! Thanks for sharing this video. Syn is really a guitar god!
Love how he brought his REV guitar
Why isn't stuff like this on their new album. I appreciate going back to a sound that everyone knows and loves but capitalize on your talents and progress. This song was SICK and brought me back to the City of Evil days. AWESOME!
here from 2023 and boy you will love the stage and life is but a dream
Syn, if read this, PLEASE MAKE A STUDIO VERSION OF THIS!
that taapped harmonic is giving me goosebump
Thanks a lot danny for recording this. Synyster gates was one of my biggest influences into picking up the guitar, can't wait to see the lessons!
Wow he is a real inspiration. I never thought he would be so nice and thoughtful to express his ideas to everyone.
Wow that's amazing syn . I've never seen him shred that much. Syn you should make a solo album that would be sick !
He has THE REV on his guitar? Is it to honour him?
+thewilliamjrful that's right. They where in fact best friends =P
he has that same inlay in the so far away video
Is that usucknoob123 in the front there?
Wtf are you doing here???
I'm just sitting here yelling at my computer to all those people in the fucking way haha!
He plays like it's absolutely effortless!!
man, syn should make a solo album...
que sorprendente lo mucho que syn ha cambiado a lo largo de los años, ahora tiene muchísimos mas recursos, y ese tapping a dos manos!! que increíble, lejos el mejor guitarrista de esta generación
Lets give it up for synyster gates!!! *Gets in front of camera*
whats the name of the technique or whatever he does at 5:55 besides being called tapping or two handed tapping and are there some other examples someone could show me
This video is an inspiration for all guitar players; )
WOW! Realy good! The two Hand tappings and the arpeggios! Great! Like buckethead!
So they finally get synyster Gates to do a master class... And they stand in front of The recording the entire time?
What's going on around 5:54? How is he able to do a pinch harmonic from a pull off?
R.I.P. Pinkly Smooth.
Mezmer is my fav :)
I'am 62, just found this guy and his
band..... My new no. 1 favorite
guitarist. This guy is AWESOME.
He does EVERYTHING right.
Totally inspiring !

Umm that's not this generation
Marco Sfogli = the new generation. Syn has a long way to go, but he's learning. I can tell he's improving a lot. That tone is so horrible though. I wish he would redo his entire sound.
the guy that keeps blocking the camera is pissing me off

He's 40 now (almost)
4:51 and so on has a very "Per Nilsson" type style to it. I love It!!!
Guitar players keep getting better and better as the years keep going. I wonder what it will be like when I'm really old
i'm surprised they let you film
Thanks for posting this Danny! It's hard to get every last detail from my brother (Paul) about the class so I'm glad you recorded it! Enjoy your new guitar!

Awww, look who's trying to be Malmsteen, Broderick, Calderone, and Batio all at once.
Hey what is the name of that tap pinch harmonic thing?
i couldn't understand well but i think you mean " hammer on "
If you tap the actual feet fast and hard it rings out a harmonic. They can be moved and stuff too. Eddie van halen's live solos are full of it. Even the mean street intro has it. Experiment and find which ones ring leader for you!
+Tyler Saltmarsh *fret
Wtf is that guy doing moving so much
shout out to the guy who feels like he has the right to just stand in front of cameras
sorry for my ignorance but is that from ax7 song or did he just make that up
Very few people can make going out of key sound this good.
como se llama la cancion que esta tocando al inicio? what is the name the song he plays? sorry for my english
THE GATES HAVE OPENED
Where the hell does his pick go during the 8 finger tapping?! Doesn't look like he's even. Holding it in his knuckle or anything haha.
4:00 I swear he's playing Hallowed Be Thy Name
Ik right!!!
Is there anywhere you can get the song he plays? He was talking about getting the track; someone help me
Aww he's playing with the Rev guitar
What is the song playing synyster 3:58 minutes?
i am going to virtually slap that guy , cant you sit ... damn
I have to ask, cause I'm not a guitarist, where does he put his pick when he does the piano tapping thingy on his guitar?
I don't know exactly what fingers he used, but usually I hold the pick in-between my pinky and ring finger.
Dan B Roslan between his thumb and the side of his hand.
Ugh god i want to know how to play that weird tapping thing he did.. It's too fast for me to figure out though :/
Nah i mean in the song he played :) The tapping with both hands kind of thing. I got some of it down but im missing some notes.. hard to hear lol
8 finger tapping? Lol
well it's not really 8 finger i think :P But it's some crazy shite i tell you that!
Here is a lesson someone posted teaching how to play it th-cam.com/video/hHzzMveDtEE/w-d-xo.html
How does he do that tapping harmonic.. Ive been wondering since I saw this vid years ago... And the piano style tapping. Hes gotten so much better since his first lesson videos lmao.
At least they got another camera filming him when that other guy got in the way. EVeryone here would be LIVID if you hadn't done that lol
True dat
What kind of phone does Syn have? By the looks of it, it looks like an iPhone 5s but when he holds in his hand, it looks bigger.
This is incredible. Synyster Gates is an amazing guitarist. Congrats Danny on making it there. \m/
How he did this tapping on 4:51 and i am not talking about tap harmonic
holy shit this is quite possibly the sickest shit ive seen thus far...
Dang son. I love how his facial expression hardly changed while playing...it's just as normal as breathing for him. I am in awe of this man😍
Why the hell does everyone beg for a tab as soon as they see someone play something they like? Why don't you try to transcribe something by ear?
Caltack8 late reply I know, but nobody seems to value ear training anymore
whats that song called hes playing? with the insane tapping?
Hopefully the new album will have some of this guitar in it.
it won't sadly. he said it wouldn't be
:(
+timothy hensel what he said wasnt true
I noticed that Syn doesn't use alternate picking but use economy tech., does he? Or am i wrong?
How does he hit the pinch harmonic while tapping?
Its a tap harmonic. Eddie Van Halen used to do it, check out his solo on 'beat it' by michael jackson.
Jesse Salmons Thank you for the info. :)
count up 5,7 or 12 frets from the note your playing and instead of hitting the note between frets hit the fret itself and pull off fast
or put your index finger where the harmonic sweet spot is and hit the string with your thumb
John Coyne that's one way but the way I do it (not sure if this is what gates does) is I tap and hold my finger on the fret and with the back of my hand I lightly tap a sweet spot further down the neck.
***** Just lightly tap the fret
Can someone explain how he does the artifical harmonics while tapping? Check 4:40 through 4:50. That technique is soooo sick.
It is a technique called tap harmonics. Google it or some shit
Captain Gunner Thanks
best guitar player of all time for me
Did Anyone else notice that Syn was using the Guitar he used in So far away?? The rev inlays
He always does.. you must be new
He doesnt always use that guitar.... Little you know the 1 he always plays says syn on the fret board..... "You must be new"
Yeah, but he has been playing the REV guitar since their nightmare tour xD
newbie
Lukas Harkamp no he hasnt because if you look in the more recent videos, hail to the king etc, and a couple on the nightmare album, he's playing the custom with syn on the inlays, newbie
I can give you two reasons why I don't consider myself a "good" guitarist, Yngwie Malmsteen, and Synyster Gates.
I feel ya man :(
Sam Pink I feel you lol in all fairness syn is like 87 on all time best guitarist
I love how those syn guitars are stationed to the place where they are like some sort of royal bodyguard to protect Gates... err I mean the King.
That's pretty impressive, but can he play Hot Cross Buns??!
where can i get that backing track?. so cool...
Finaly found the most hated person in music. The dummy that keeps blocking the camera.
What is the first riff/solo from? The state albun?
What are some of the websites he was talking about in the beginning? How you can jam over tracks and practice soloing. Someone tell me
Throw out the person who is standing near the camera, always blocked my view😂😮
Disculpen mi ignorancia cual es la canción que interpreta syn? está increible
Awesome! I've been waiting like 4 months for this so it's awesome it's finally here! It sucks the camera crew didn't respect your camera but you did a killer job making the best of the footage you've got. I really appreciate it and am eager to watch the other parts. How long was the class altogether?
How the hell does one go from two handed tapping to a pinch harmonic? I can't figure it out, please help!
Same here bro! Cant figure out the same thing!
The whole thing is to tap it right in the middle of the distance between the fret that you are holding and the Floyd rose !!!(this is how to get a harmonic with tapping) Tell me if it helped you !
did Brian say "shits and giggles?" 😂😂 tf..
This might be a stupid question but what does he say at the begginig about the website?
he's honestly rhe greatest of all time
Jacob Bastian ok, he's really good, but let's not say the greatest of all time. Let's say he's up there with the greats.
Anyone know what program is the one he talks about at the beginning of the video? thanks!!
Master class presents: Some dudes fucking arm...
Uhh, kinda late to the party but anyone got tabs for his first solo? I really can't figure out the tapping parts and some of the fast runs at the start.
I'm just pretty much staring at Syn saying in my head " He's SO HOT!"
Lololol apparently im not the only one resisting the urge to smash mr stand in front of the cameras face off XD still a great quality vid tho lol
it would be great if someone missile drop kicked the guy blocking the camera...
