    From the UK gov website: 'A child aged 3 or older can travel in a back seat without a child car seat and without a seat belt if the vehicle doesn’t have one.'
    I would be happier with the children in proper child seats, but worth knowing at least, particuarly as it could solve the centre seat issue in three-across vehicles where there isn't space.
    Cheers for another informative video.

    I've been going through the motions with this, with an 18-month old, another on the way, and my teenage sister who lives with me, my 330d touring is absolutely not going to work. Went to test drive an X5 and 530d and fear that the middle seats aren't big enough. Frankly, one car seat and two adults in the back of the 3 series isnt enough room. Naturally a multimac wont apply for me because of my situation! All roads point to an MPV unfortunately. Any advice Ben or other dads on potential options? Only saving grace is I hope to pick up an MK Indy in the coming months to take the sting out of getting a "boring" car....

    • @dadcars
      @dadcars  หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can get a seat belt attachment so the outer seats can be used with the cars seatbelt for small adults but it may not be a long term frequent use solution. 7 seat X5 is very tight in the back too… I hope to review more large family cars in the coming months.

      @@dadcarsThanks for reply! It's a tricky situation, cant imagine the need to have all 5 of us in the car will happen very often, but when it does, it will be for long journeys so wouldn't want to put anyone adult-sized through being squeezed between two R129s (or in a multimac) for 3 to 6 hours. After having a proper think, realised if we are going toward MPV territory, may as well get T5 or similar! Will keep an eye open for those reviews, hopefully something will crop up for me 🤣

    Only really useful when the kids are very small, as a family of 6 with 2 dogs I looked at the multimac, no issues with safety but the size of the individual seats is small and frankly having them all sat together on a long journey would be like setting off a grenade every 5 minutes.
    If you have a family of 6 there is only one option if you don't want a van with loads of seats, JDM mpv. Swapped my merc viano for a Toyota velfire a few years back and won't consider not having one until the kids move out.

      Afraid Land Rover really cocked things up with the move from Disco 4 to 5. We were the same - having all 3 kids in the back of the Disco 4. Couldn’t believe much much narrower the seat was in Disco 5 - no longer a proper middle seat. Managed to get them in but required some new seats to do so. Our own fault as ordered the car at launch (never again!). It’s possible to fit an eldest in the middle - just needs some thought. We ended up with him in middle for short school runs and then for anything longer, he sat in the rear. Moved to X7 which was way better - much more room all round (and a far better car). Sadly Covid stuck business so now back in an old Disco 4!! Only one in a car seat now but other two taller than me, no chance of getting a small car. Enjoy the Disco 5 - the new ones are totally different to our early one (which I wouldn’t touch with a bargepole) - build has significantly improved.

    Honestly didn't belive it, but this is 'technically' legal. But there is some serious aviation there if you do have an accident, first is with no disease protection, the kids next to the door are going to take some serious damage from a side impact, not the airbag, the car that tboned you.... second, fully loaded you have all your kids weight and the bench locked onto 2 isofix points that have a max load of 33kg each, and point loading one could sheered both in an impact. So if u got 4 kids at 8kg each, in an Impact your in trouble, and to reiterate, thats not the seat failing, thats the points it's locked onto failing.
    Another qualifier, some insurance policies limit the vehicle passengers to how many people the vehicle was designed for, thats essential to know because insurance always tries to screw you in the UK. I had a mate at work get done for this because the transit documentation said 7 passengers but he had 8 (the front single passenger sear was changed to a standard double at one point), and while this was legal, the insurance refused, therefore they charged him with driving without insurance as well.
    But for just for me, having been in a tbone, don't put your kid in a seat without that protection.

    • @dadcars
      @dadcars  หลายเดือนก่อน

      The multimac DOES NOT fix to the isofix points, I literally show this in this video! I also said many times that it’s passed the R129 where it’s actually physically crash tested for side impact… loads of child seats have been discontinued because of failing the side impact test for R129.

    • @aloneinfinland
      @aloneinfinland หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@dadcars sorry the rear attachment points, they all have the same raiting, 33 kilos. And the side impact as you can see in your video, it's not the seat protecting the kid there isint anything between the kid and the door. I assume you haven been hit side on, but trust me that door deforms inward, I was litterally knocked out by the Central piller hitting my head! If your kid dosent have something between their body and the door, like the side rests on every child car seat, then that door isint being slowed on impact. That's a broken shoulder/arm, the airbag only covers the window, not the steel. Just go and watch some side impact testing espically on kids seats and you should understand.

    • @aloneinfinland
      @aloneinfinland หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@dadcars it's also worth if your putting this out there, the nature of the testing requirement, they simulate hitting the chair, they do not show deformation damage of surrounding car, only the chair on a platform. They also certify a booster with no surround just as protective as full surround seat, something anyone with ten bobs worth of brain knows is not the same. Yes the seats are legal, sure they could be useful, but are they as safe as proper seats, he'll no. I love you videos man, espically the 3 kid seat 911 😀 but as someone whose been in a few accidents, both someone else fault, or delibratly cause for fun, or the car flung into the air by a mysterious bang, I can tell you simpley, if the kid seats dosent have sides, it's not as safe. Most kids won't experience a crash, but the condom principle applies, better to have it and not need it.

    A brilliant idea I agree,but can I please ask you to listen to my following.?
    I'm a Retired Police officer and although I wasn't an RPU officer I still specialized in Traffic offences when I could. When I first saw your video I instantly said NO, ILLEGAL. Why you might ask,well car manufacturers such as BMW,AUDI,RANGE ROVER, Mercedes,etc make cars with 4,5,6,7 seats the RR is either a 5 or 7 seater which is where the Insurance companies take their guidance from. RR DONT make a 6 seater car as you well know so this "device" that turns your car into a 6 seater in my opinion(and others) would null and void your insurance. I know you state you've spoken to insurance companies and they say it's ok,but who did you actually speak to regarding this ? The normal person on the end of the line or someone high up the ladder ?
    I've spoken with 3 of my colleagues who are still serving officers,2 on the RPU and 1 on the Motorway,they have ALL seen your video and agree with me that it would void your insurance. I'll stand corrected if I'm wrong but personally I would get a yes or no from someone high up in the Insurance industry and back it up in writing. It's no different to squeezing 4 young kids on the back seat of your car, obviously except they all have belts on.
    I'm not trying to be a party pooper just trying to give you some legal advice.
    Please keep me posted.

      Doesn’t turn it into a 6 seater though.. can only seat children. This is the problem with the police rather than listen to what he’s said that his insurance company said it doesn’t void his policy you think your opinion is more important than those underwriting the policy itself😅you sound like a jobsworth and so do the people you’re still in touch with. FYI it’s one of the many reasons people don’t like you, you’d definitely try and take food off his table for this, probably will do now. Why not just word it as “have you got this in writing as in my opinion it would void the policy”😅I’ll definitely apologise if I’m wrong too, but you sound like you’re still on an ego trip from a job you’re not even in anymore.

      @@AI-Records24 Calm down you definitely sound like a Police hater,wow !!
      That's exactly what I said,speak to someone high up such as an Underwriter,if they are prepared to put it in writing absolutely sound.
      As for not making it a 6 seater,of course it damn well does,2 in the front and 4 kids in this device makes 6,the car itself is defined as a 5 seater,2 in the front and 3 in the rear,whether that's 3 children or adults. Add an extra child or adult in the back and that VOIDS your insurance,FACT. !!
      Just because you've got problems with the Police try to listen to people who have done the job and are still doing the job for a living.

      @@alanedwards7496 I am, you say it like it’s a bad thing🤣not only incompetent but dangerous with limited knowledge of laws and acts which they enforce as if they know inside out. No discretion used anymore just filling their portfolios and hitting targets, basically revenue collectors for the gov and hired thugs when the offer is large enough. Involved heavily in civil issues when they should be nowhere near, but no problem because we can always misuse an act to involve ourselves. I’ve had many nice cheques from police incompetence, arrogance, ego fuelled misconduct and misuse of badge so I’m hardly complaining but really should the public have to pay for their insurance to go through the roof every year? Should we have a functioning police service that goes after actual criminals rather than easy money? Anyway. Clearly we’re going to be too far apart on the issue, always like that.
