The thing with Land Rovers is if you don't maintain them then that's when your issues start. The first owner ignores things but gets them fixed under warranty then trades it, the second owner buys it and is super thrilled they have a Land/Range Rover but an issue happens and ignores it for a bit, then maybe something else happens and then they get it checked. So begins the "that's too expensive to fix right now" and then they eventually sell it or it breaks down completely. Then the second owner bashes it to everyone.... I have a 2015 Evoque with 160,000 miles thats been serviced by myself religiously and the only things that have been replaced were Ford parts like the boost control solenoid (uses the same one as some early Focus ST's and they died early too) and I replaced an O2 sensor a month ago. Typical things that go with age really... it's been a trooper of a little SUV and an absolute beast in snow. Take care of anything and it will take care of you.

I live in Mongolia, offroading is not a choice, it's the only way to go. In the capital plenty of new RR's. But all owners have a LC200/300 for when leaving the comfy city streets. You can repair most LC issues with a wrench, but RR's need a computer. I do know some that bought the computer to do the resets in the desert, but even then, the risk is too high. You cannot bring all parts, plus passersby drive Toyota, so can't help you. If a part fails, you need to order it. Good luck when your car is in the middle of nowhere and months later when the part arrives. If everyone would drive RR's, it may stand a chance, but the high tech needed to solve issues is probably why no one would date to take one on the road. Same with Defenders.
@@stlwrxWrong. Maintenance doesn’t mean you won’t have breakdowns. I’ve owned 3 LR/RR’s. Maintained them properly-even more diligently than recommended by the manufacturer. For example, I did oil changes at 1/2 the mileage intervals the manufacturer recommends (1 year/15K miles)--they still broke down. Certain parts have a 100% failure rate, such as the air struts for the suspension (dry rot). Door lock mechanism, climate control panel, supercharger pulley, etc.-failed failed and failed. I even had a wiper motor fail on me-never had that happen on any other brand car I’ve owned and with way more mileage.
My aunt had a Mercedes GL550 4MATIC. That thing was the worst car I’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Broken. ALWAYS. Air suspension, engine work (oil leaks, faulty wiring, coils going bad, etc) not to mention EVERY SINGLE ELECTRONIC FAILING!!! Most problems started happening just before the end of her extended warranty, and after the air suspension failed for like the 3rd time my aunt ditched the car. It was about 7 years old, and only had 88,000 miles. Taught me to never buy a Mercedes.
@@Deadlybroom My work van is a 2012 MB SPRINTER. On average i am without my van 1 to 3 weeks PER YEAR. Same with my coworker and his identical van. According to our head mechanic, the cost per visit at the MB dealer is a minimum of $6 000 tona staggering $13 000 repair. We have many MB vans and VW cars. When they expire, never see a German car again. My van is slated for auction next spring...I can hardly wait. The ride quality of a Sprinter is atrocious. My 20 Tundra rides like a limo in comparison.
I had a 2013 Mercedes C300 4Matic. Zero issues. In all these years, I kept waiting for hammer to drop. 1 of the most reliable cars I have ever owned. Excellent experience.
The Range Rover was also optional with a rear locker. Shame you don't have that one (on the infotainment screen, the lock icon would show in the rear differential just as it does in the center), but they are pretty rare. Another problem you'll have with the supercharged v8 is that it's harder to fit smaller wheels on them. The smaller engines can fit 18" wheels, but I think 19 inch or 20 inch wheels is the smallest you'll be able to fit without swapping out brake calipers.
Recently purchased the identical vehicle with 27,xxx miles for $36k. It has been a dream to own, especially the long wheel base. The space in the back seat for the car seat has been life changing. The larger door makes it so easy to put the car seat in, and I can adjust my driver seat to any position i want with plenty of room to spare. Good to know these perform so well off road. The wading depth is nice since we often get flash flooding here in Florida. If you find the right vehicle that hasn’t had 6 owners, i think these are excellent “bang for your buck” vehicles with the help of depreciation. Thanks for sharing! New sub 😊

I got my 22 rubicon with painted fenders, cold weather package, LED light package for 40k plus tax. The deals are definitely still out there if you look for them.
It doesn't break down all that often.... We have a 2014 Supercharged SWB and besides some minor suspension hiccups and oil changes every 5k I do here at home and diff fluid changes all is well. Did some preventative maintenance and changed out spark plugs and changed the radiator pipe to aluminum. So far 120K miles
This makes me hopeful that we will get to see many of the expensive offroad vehicles on the trail now that the used prices are less than half the msrp. Its a shame that something like the g wagon will practically never see a spec of dirt even tho they have triple lockers. And forget about a 4x4 squared with portal axles from the factory. Such a shame… Lookin forward to the offroad build guys!
Looking forward to this. I have a 2014 RRS with the supercharged V8 with all the off road goodies including a locking rear diff. It was 100k new, I purchased it two years ago for $32k. It has 22in wheels. I purchased 7x 20in OEM wheels for $50 per on marketplace. I wanted to have a full size spare and a couple of extras just in case. Right now I plan to get some KO2's in 275/55/R20. I am interested to see what you guys do with the wheels and tires. Voyager Racks makes a cool safari style roof rack for Range Rovers. Also, there are factory mount points for after market rocks sliders. When I spoke Voyager Racks they where looking at designing and producing sliders to mount to those points. I bet they would work with you guys on a prototype.
I have nitto ridge grappler g2's at 265/50/R20 on my FFRR that fit like a glove, not sure if you can go much bigger (or need to) without having to do some cutting into the wheel well liners.
We have the 2016 TD6 and have been waiting to see you guys really use one. It’s been my wife’s daily driver for 4 years (we bought it used with 40K for $58K) and we’ve loved it. Thought about selling it recently but only because we were looking for something new. However, we are having a hard time letting go. You might inspire us to keep it long term and use it more seriously off road. We live in Oregon and have great places to take it and put it through its paces.
Trying to combine Merc S class comfort and luxury, and almost Wrangler level off-road capability. When it works, it's probably the best car on the planet. Unfortunately, it doesn't work always, but from a brighter side, when it works it is so good that positive outshines the negative. This of course, if you ignore the price and maintenance costs.
"Wrangler level"? Not even much more capable true ladder frame/solid rear axle cars like Land Cruisers (any non 70-series), are close to Wrangler. Let's not be funny.. ;- ) Pretty much any road vehicle with AWD that has brake-traction system can do this type of off-roading, Land Rover does have the system well tuned though, beating even Toyota in the programming of it, but that can only get you so far.

The 5.0 is a pretty good engine overall. Some of them (especially earlier ones) had timing chain issues which is a pain, but very repairable (though expensive). These are leaps and bounds better than older versions, except for the ones with the Ford derived 4.4 which is a shockingly reliable engine in a Rover.
I have that exact model - except 2014 and 119k miles. I have had it for a year, and all I have done was to change the trans fluid/filter and oil/filter. No service issues at all.
I went on this same trail with a 2009 Range Rover. It did well. But it did become unreliable, just like they're known for. I still miss the comfort and class of it, though. Even offroad
I bought a 2022 for $43,600 a few months ago. It has 27,000 miles when I bought it and it has a Land Rover Approved CPO warranty for 100,000 miles until 2027. So far so good. And the finance rates at 1.9% is a steal. Love mine. Great car. And my dealer are so nice. Love to maintain relationships with the same people for years at the dealership.
I worked for JLR when L405 was being developed.. part of the testing was Moab trips, along with Sweden for snow n ice, Italian Alps for brake testing, Dubai for sand, and Nurburgring/Germany for racetrack and high speed cruising on autobahns, amoungst others.. Range Rovers wear many hats.. but yeesh, expensive new!
I have a 2018 GLS550 with 50k miles. No problem. Just the maintenance is kind of expensive. Last service cost over $3000, just maintenance, new tires, and new battery. It is still a joy to drive, and more powerful and faster than a lot of sports cars. Every time some kids with sports car think they can out run me, they are stunned to find out I can stay on their tail or even pass them. I enjoy their stunned look. I’m riding in a 3 row SUV with my daughter in my back seat.
Would love to see you try this with a 2007-2015 LX570, or a GX470, and see how either of those compare to this Range Rover. BTW, the choosing the LWB Range Rover for offroad use wasn't a good idea, IMO. The departure angle will be terrible.
There’s a reason why Land Rover no longer exists in off-roading… There’s even a whole quote made for it. “If you want to go into the outback, take a Land Rover. If you want to get back, bring a….” Land Rover will go out of business in 20 years. Same for Jaguar. Tata killed old Land Rover.
My 2015 l405 is great off-road. I have absolutely loved owning it. I put 275/55/20 all terrain tires on it and that’s about it. The Range Rover does not touch the ground where Tacomas and 4Runners will.
Land Rovers are complex vehicles, but so are Toyotas and other vehicles. Have you seen the amount of electronics in a Landcruiser 300 or Prado? I've had both a Discovery and a Defender and their reliability is similar to other vehicles. The complaints often seem to come from people who have never owned an LR and are just repeating folklore.
The L322 was the pinnacle of Range Rover/Land Rover design.... it was also around the time of the LR3/LR4 and its boxy design that now more manufacturer's are trying to bring back like Lexus and Toyota.
@@stlwrx I am absolutely with you. The L322 is in a class of its own. Had a Discovery 4/LR4 after, but it did not feel the same. Sold it because of the problematic SDV6 Engine and never bought a Land Rover again, but still very interested in.
I’ve only broken down twice in a Land Rover Product. I’ve owned 5 different ones. The first one to break was 1991 county, with 70,000 and a cracked cylinder sleeve. The second was 2004 RR that had a really great BMW motor and there was some plastic internal cooling piece that broke and needed $1300 repair. It had 102,000 miles. The rest was some expensive maintenance and repair items, but not causing me to be stuck.
I daily drive a 2004 discovery and regularly take it off road. And it hasn't had any more issues than any 20 year old car would have so honestly this whole oooo unreliable is just hogwash.
When you fit a set of 18" wheels with a decent set of off road tires, it might be really capable. That would be an interesting project / video. Assuming, of course, it doesn't break down.
Sadly with the supercharged model the large brakes mean a 19" is the smallest wheel that will clear, and then you are extremely limited in tire options so most end up going with a 20" wheel. The supercharged motor also means extra cooling that makes it harder to trim inner fenders for larger tires. 32" is about the biggest you'll manage without surgery.
I love it. I've been doing this since my 20s older clean land rovers and range rovers, and it's always the same story. It can do whatever you ask it to as long as u can deal with all the beeps and bongs because something is always broken or thinks it's broken. The older stuff is definitely better simply because it's mechanical rather than electronics. They are definitely a different company nowadays. However, it's still pretty cool to show up to the off-road park in the new stuff. Atlantic British will be your new best friends.
I'd have done the same thing! Use the vehicle for its intended purpose. There are so many Raptors and Broncos and Braptors here in the Bay Area that will never see a trail. I'd love to offroad in one of these luxury SUVs

What it really is, is he likes things that are potential problems. Things that can give viewers something interesting to click on. But at the prices he pays for things, it does not coincide with his "we don't make hardly any money making videos". Have to be getting income sourced from someplace to sustain all the overhead and expenses.
I like the Range Rover, but my 2021 two door Rubicon was around 48k brand new (listed for 55-57k I think). If you’re looking for a wheeler, I’d go with a new Jeep over a used Rover as you have a purpose built off-roader, a warranty, and the JL isn’t a bad daily either (oh, and my cameras work 😉). If you want to test something similarly priced off-road, let’s go!
I enjoy all the fails and mishaps from TFL. I enjoyed the 4Runner SR5 fail on Razor rocks few days back. Of cause the multiple Defender failures. Hoping to see some fun with this Range Rover series. Go TFL..!!
We have an ageing 2013 TDV8 4.4L vogue SWB Diesel, here in the UK its on 86,000 miles, its use it to haul large boats up a slipway in a boat yard and it parks the boats in storage its rarely driven on road, we find it to be an extremely capable vehicle it tows 6 tonne yachts with ease the torque it produces at 1500rpms is something else, its only issues to date is a cracked windscreen and a water leak into the passenger foot well, only concerns are the rear tyres on the inner edge wear pretty alarmingly , but its used as a work horse so to be expected, we bought the car used in 2018 with 71,200 for £26,000 GBP with a part service history, it s get serviced at the local village garage annually and the bill is usually for serviceable items and is around £500 which I think is inexpensive, not LR, I cannot rate it enough and is as good as the rotten old 4.4L Landcruiser it replaced. The car is a bit battered and bruised cosmetically and it needs a deep clean but we will keep it until the car becomes un economical to the business. What we will replace it with who knows as it not manufactured any longer in the UK with this engine. The car has been 100% reliable. We modified the car to have a front tow hitch and and an extra down draught cooling fan in the engine bay which we operate at the flick of a switch.
At the factory when these girls was launched , the Rover was climbing a slope it was that steep you were hanging in the seat unable to move . Beautiful Cars
Literally every 2013-2015 RR I’ve seen so far in 2023 has had the rear suspension fail making the car sink down in the back like a low rider with hydraulics 😂
No surprised there for the RR. It’s also possible that it only has the reverse camera. My Discovery Sport only has the rear camera (whoever configured it didn’t choose the 360° camera option - I bought it used). When you first mentioned the incline of Baby Lion’s Back you said in degrees ° but then when driving you were calling out percents! Which was it as I believe LR show the incline in degrees not percent? The RR as far as I know can climb 45° slope (with enough traction of course) and can descend 45°. The new Defender 110 can climb 45° and descend 47° slopes. My 2015 7-seat (5+2) 2.0ℓ petrol turbo DS can climb & descend 45° slopes (traction dependent). It doesn’t have a low range but has 1st gear as a granny/crawler gear and a variable centre diff. My car would easily traverse what you did in the RR including the wading. But the RR should be more capable as I have no air suspension. And I have AT tyres though. Land Rovers are amazingly capable.
"If you cant afford it new, you shouldnt buy it used". If you are maxing your $40k budget and shopping the idea of this next to a 2023 Explorer, buy the Explorer. But if a 2023 $140k RR is in the budget and you dont need to flaunt the latest and greatest, you will easily afford the fixes that pop up along the way and its hard not to see the value in this 60% off MSRP with nearly all the capability of a 2023. 2017 is GOAT year, keeps the tactile buttons / HVAC controls with the updated Carplay screen.

Highly capable for 8.6 nanoseconds and then the shit hits the fan. Yep, you guessed it some factory worker re-routed the overboard shit dispenser and it got redirected to the radiator. The fan blew it over the air filter inlet and the MAF ingested it. The Oxygen sensor was not calibrated for methane and the completely altered the timing causing all 32 valves to smash into the pistons and the exhaust valves went into the turbo, making an enormous bang and lots of smoke. The turbo threw all the bits of valves and turbo vanes into all the 8 cylinders via the missing inlet valves. So much material was jammed in the cylinder heads, that the conrods snapped and disappeared out of the block via alternators, fuel lines, AT cooling lines, intercooler hoses etc. The resultant fireball blew off the hood (bonnet) and severed the head of a passing motor cyclist, whilst the motorbike continued on its way, with its headless rider until and it collided, head-on, with a woman taking her kids to school. Both were killed. Meanwhile the RR had come to a stop and on the verge and continued to burn after the explosion. Several acres of farmland were destroyed as were some very expensive cows. The driver managed to escape unharmed. He was heard to say, "Bollox, the insurers will never believe this, I'll need to buy another one".
I don't know why you are surprised... It's a Range Rover, You have more likely to breakdown up the hill than not be able to get up it if it didn't lol! It's harsh but they are probably one of the best if not the best factory off roader! Bar the G Wagon! Obviously!
After owning five different LRs, I just had to walk away. I now own a Jeep JLU and I couldn't be happier (though it isn't my daily driver... that's a Volvo). Still looking for the perfect combination of off-road capability and refinement.
Land Rover makes the best every day drivers. My 2018 Range Rover Sport was a great car and now my 2023 Defender is the best car I've ever owned! I don't think theres another brand that makes vehicles as capable and comfortable as Land Rover. And their customer service is top tier. The dealerships by me send someone to my house to pick the car up with its ready for oil changes and drops it off after its finished which is such a nice touch!
Hi, watching one of your videos on the Honda HRV there is way to disengage traction control all the way by stepping on the break and turning it on and off until it flashes, I would love to see the HRV tested when traction control is completely turned off
You guys should take a 'factory tour' and see the Lode Lane test track in Solihull 🏭 😢, if still in use for production cars off the line, its a pretty brutal test.....

Lexus is boring. If you want a real off road machine you buy an older Land Rover or Range Rover. Even an older Lexus. Id take a old Lexus over a new Range Rover anyday, but the new Lexus SUVS are not as good.
Its capability is inversely proportional to its reliability. Ours was fine until we hit 100,000Kms (60,000 miiles). But when they work they are sublime.

I'm more than happy to see what a vehicle can do on stock wheels and tires if I can then go watch a video of what it can... you know, actually do. New wheels and tires for a 110k vehicle is like 2 percent of the purchase price. It's just *dumb* to pretend that people who can afford this vehicle cannot also afford the correct wheels and tires for it if they plan to go off-road. But a side-by-side comparison of capability before and after is also well worth watching.
I had one , it is very capable off-road ! However as it aged the electrical gremlins kept it from being reliable in the Australian outback . So sold it and went for a reliable Lexus lx .
Only 6 years and 48k miles, this is almost a good deal. Hope you left $10k tucked away for some repairs just in case. Looking forward to this follow-up.

I own both a Range Rover and a Mercedes. The Mercedes is in the shop a lot more than the Range Rover.

It doesn't break down all that often.... We have a 2014 Supercharged SWB and besides some minor suspension hiccups and oil changes every 5k I do here at home and diff fluid changes all is well. Did some preventative maintenance and changed out spark plugs and changed the radiator pipe to aluminum. So far 120K miles
You've done the preventative maintenence to avoid premature failures. Most people don't and complain when things break.

This makes me hopeful that we will get to see many of the expensive offroad vehicles on the trail now that the used prices are less than half the msrp. Its a shame that something like the g wagon will practically never see a spec of dirt even tho they have triple lockers. And forget about a 4x4 squared with portal axles from the factory. Such a shame…

The L405 is tremendous, never actually seen one mechanically or electrically fail. Service them and they’re faultless
sample size of one but my LR4 has been perfect for almost 100,000 miles. The one before it I maybe spent $600 keeping it running. Fantastic trucks!
My discovery 4 has over 140,000 miles, my ground worker has a disco 3 which has 270,000 miles and neither have left anyone stranded.
It's all about the maintenance. They don't do well when it gets deferred. Take care of it and they'll do ok, as your experience shows.

Looking forward to this. I have a 2014 RRS with the supercharged V8 with all the off road goodies including a locking rear diff. It was 100k new, I purchased it two years ago for $32k. It has 22in wheels. I purchased 7x 20in OEM wheels for $50 per on marketplace. I wanted to have a full size spare and a couple of extras just in case. Right now I plan to get some KO2's in 275/55/R20. I am interested to see what you guys do with the wheels and tires. Voyager Racks makes a cool safari style roof rack for Range Rovers. Also, there are factory mount points for after market rocks sliders. When I spoke Voyager Racks they where looking at designing and producing sliders to mount to those points. I bet they would work with you guys on a prototype.
I have nitto ridge grappler g2's at 265/50/R20 on my FFRR that fit like a glove, not sure if you can go much bigger (or need to) without having to do some cutting into the wheel well liners.
We have the 2016 TD6 and have been waiting to see you guys really use one. It’s been my wife’s daily driver for 4 years (we bought it used with 40K for $58K) and we’ve loved it. Thought about selling it recently but only because we were looking for something new. However, we are having a hard time letting go. You might inspire us to keep it long term and use it more seriously off road. We live in Oregon and have great places to take it and put it through its paces.
There’s really no contemporary replacement. If you have a good one that you like, run it till it simply can’t anymore.
Trying to combine Merc S class comfort and luxury, and almost Wrangler level off-road capability. When it works, it's probably the best car on the planet. Unfortunately, it doesn't work always, but from a brighter side, when it works it is so good that positive outshines the negative. This of course, if you ignore the price and maintenance costs.

"Wrangler level"? Not even much more capable true ladder frame/solid rear axle cars like Land Cruisers (any non 70-series), are close to Wrangler. Let's not be funny.. ;- )
Pretty much any road vehicle with AWD that has brake-traction system can do this type of off-roading, Land Rover does have the system well tuned though, beating even Toyota in the programming of it, but that can only get you so far.

Have couple of these LWB Range Rovers I work on, both white and with center and rear lockers. Excellent cars. Love em.
The 5.0 is a pretty good engine overall. Some of them (especially earlier ones) had timing chain issues which is a pain, but very repairable (though expensive). These are leaps and bounds better than older versions, except for the ones with the Ford derived 4.4 which is a shockingly reliable engine in a Rover.

They didn't drop the weight by 1,000 lbs, check the weight measurements online. A full option one still weights nearly the same as the heaviest L322.

That’s because a full optioned L405 is a long wheelbase - that option didn’t exist for the L322.
I have that exact model - except 2014 and 119k miles. I have had it for a year, and all I have done was to change the trans fluid/filter and oil/filter. No service issues at all.

I went on this same trail with a 2009 Range Rover. It did well. But it did become unreliable, just like they're known for. I still miss the comfort and class of it, though. Even offroad
I bought a 2022 for $43,600 a few months ago. It has 27,000 miles when I bought it and it has a Land Rover Approved CPO warranty for 100,000 miles until 2027. So far so good. And the finance rates at 1.9% is a steal. Love mine. Great car. And my dealer are so nice. Love to maintain relationships with the same people for years at the dealership.
I have a 2021 Range Rover Sport and I go off roading in mine all the time. I’ve had her for two years now and never had any issues.
I worked for JLR when L405 was being developed.. part of the testing was Moab trips, along with Sweden for snow n ice, Italian Alps for brake testing, Dubai for sand, and Nurburgring/Germany for racetrack and high speed cruising on autobahns, amoungst others.. Range Rovers wear many hats.. but yeesh, expensive new!
I have a 2018 GLS550 with 50k miles. No problem. Just the maintenance is kind of expensive. Last service cost over $3000, just maintenance, new tires, and new battery. It is still a joy to drive, and more powerful and faster than a lot of sports cars. Every time some kids with sports car think they can out run me, they are stunned to find out I can stay on their tail or even pass them. I enjoy their stunned look. I’m riding in a 3 row SUV with my daughter in my back seat.
I’ve done an off road trip to Moab with a Range Rover and Land Rover group and it’s amazing how capable they are.
Would love to see you try this with a 2007-2015 LX570, or a GX470, and see how either of those compare to this Range Rover. BTW, the choosing the LWB Range Rover for offroad use wasn't a good idea, IMO. The departure angle will be terrible.

My 2015 l405 is great off-road. I have absolutely loved owning it. I put 275/55/20 all terrain tires on it and that’s about it. The Range Rover does not touch the ground where Tacomas and 4Runners will.
My moms has 56,000 and hasn't had any issues. Its her 3rd car now i drive it once a week or so.

Land Rovers are complex vehicles, but so are Toyotas and other vehicles. Have you seen the amount of electronics in a Landcruiser 300 or Prado?
I've had both a Discovery and a Defender and their reliability is similar to other vehicles.
The complaints often seem to come from people who have never owned an LR and are just repeating folklore.
Difference is build quality, but the Range Rovers will always be more luxurious.

The L322 was the pinnacle of Range Rover/Land Rover design.... it was also around the time of the LR3/LR4 and its boxy design that now more manufacturer's are trying to bring back like Lexus and Toyota.
@@stlwrx I am absolutely with you. The L322 is in a class of its own. Had a Discovery 4/LR4 after, but it did not feel the same. Sold it because of the problematic SDV6 Engine and never bought a Land Rover again, but still very interested in.

I’ve only broken down twice in a Land Rover Product. I’ve owned 5 different ones. The first one to break was 1991 county, with 70,000 and a cracked cylinder sleeve. The second was 2004 RR that had a really great BMW motor and there was some plastic internal cooling piece that broke and needed $1300 repair. It had 102,000 miles. The rest was some expensive maintenance and repair items, but not causing me to be stuck.

When you fit a set of 18" wheels with a decent set of off road tires, it might be really capable. That would be an interesting project / video. Assuming, of course, it doesn't break down.
Sadly with the supercharged model the large brakes mean a 19" is the smallest wheel that will clear, and then you are extremely limited in tire options so most end up going with a 20" wheel. The supercharged motor also means extra cooling that makes it harder to trim inner fenders for larger tires. 32" is about the biggest you'll manage without surgery.

I love it. I've been doing this since my 20s older clean land rovers and range rovers, and it's always the same story. It can do whatever you ask it to as long as u can deal with all the beeps and bongs because something is always broken or thinks it's broken. The older stuff is definitely better simply because it's mechanical rather than electronics. They are definitely a different company nowadays. However, it's still pretty cool to show up to the off-road park in the new stuff. Atlantic British will be your new best friends.

I'd have done the same thing! Use the vehicle for its intended purpose. There are so many Raptors and Broncos and Braptors here in the Bay Area that will never see a trail. I'd love to offroad in one of these luxury SUVs

What it really is, is he likes things that are potential problems. Things that can give viewers something interesting to click on. But at the prices he pays for things, it does not coincide with his "we don't make hardly any money making videos". Have to be getting income sourced from someplace to sustain all the overhead and expenses.
I like the Range Rover, but my 2021 two door Rubicon was around 48k brand new (listed for 55-57k I think). If you’re looking for a wheeler, I’d go with a new Jeep over a used Rover as you have a purpose built off-roader, a warranty, and the JL isn’t a bad daily either (oh, and my cameras work 😉). If you want to test something similarly priced off-road, let’s go!

We have an ageing 2013 TDV8 4.4L vogue SWB Diesel, here in the UK its on 86,000 miles, its use it to haul large boats up a slipway in a boat yard and it parks the boats in storage its rarely driven on road, we find it to be an extremely capable vehicle it tows 6 tonne yachts with ease the torque it produces at 1500rpms is something else, its only issues to date is a cracked windscreen and a water leak into the passenger foot well, only concerns are the rear tyres on the inner edge wear pretty alarmingly , but its used as a work horse so to be expected, we bought the car used in 2018 with 71,200 for £26,000 GBP with a part service history, it s get serviced at the local village garage annually and the bill is usually for serviceable items and is around £500 which I think is inexpensive, not LR, I cannot rate it enough and is as good as the rotten old 4.4L Landcruiser it replaced. The car is a bit battered and bruised cosmetically and it needs a deep clean but we will keep it until the car becomes un economical to the business. What we will replace it with who knows as it not manufactured any longer in the UK with this engine. The car has been 100% reliable. We modified the car to have a front tow hitch and and an extra down draught cooling fan in the engine bay which we operate at the flick of a switch.

At the factory when these girls was launched , the Rover was climbing a slope it was that steep you were hanging in the seat unable to move . Beautiful Cars
Literally every 2013-2015 RR I’ve seen so far in 2023 has had the rear suspension fail making the car sink down in the back like a low rider with hydraulics 😂

No surprised there for the RR. It’s also possible that it only has the reverse camera. My Discovery Sport only has the rear camera (whoever configured it didn’t choose the 360° camera option - I bought it used).
When you first mentioned the incline of Baby Lion’s Back you said in degrees ° but then when driving you were calling out percents! Which was it as I believe LR show the incline in degrees not percent?
The RR as far as I know can climb 45° slope (with enough traction of course) and can descend 45°.
The new Defender 110 can climb 45° and descend 47° slopes.
My 2015 7-seat (5+2) 2.0ℓ petrol turbo DS can climb & descend 45° slopes (traction dependent). It doesn’t have a low range but has 1st gear as a granny/crawler gear and a variable centre diff. My car would easily traverse what you did in the RR including the wading. But the RR should be more capable as I have no air suspension. And I have AT tyres though.

"If you cant afford it new, you shouldnt buy it used". If you are maxing your $40k budget and shopping the idea of this next to a 2023 Explorer, buy the Explorer. But if a 2023 $140k RR is in the budget and you dont need to flaunt the latest and greatest, you will easily afford the fixes that pop up along the way and its hard not to see the value in this 60% off MSRP with nearly all the capability of a 2023. 2017 is GOAT year, keeps the tactile buttons / HVAC controls with the updated Carplay screen.
Meh. Budget 10% of MSRP. For yearly maintenance is only 14k... Really not much to own a 140k car for a 40k down payment.

Highly capable for 8.6 nanoseconds and then the shit hits the fan.
Yep, you guessed it some factory worker re-routed the overboard shit dispenser and it got redirected to the radiator. The fan blew it over the air filter inlet and the MAF ingested it. The Oxygen sensor was not calibrated for methane and the completely altered the timing causing all 32 valves to smash into the pistons and the exhaust valves went into the turbo, making an enormous bang and lots of smoke. The turbo threw all the bits of valves and turbo vanes into all the 8 cylinders via the missing inlet valves. So much material was jammed in the cylinder heads, that the conrods snapped and disappeared out of the block via alternators, fuel lines, AT cooling lines, intercooler hoses etc. The resultant fireball blew off the hood (bonnet) and severed the head of a passing motor cyclist, whilst the motorbike continued on its way, with its headless rider until and it collided, head-on, with a woman taking her kids to school. Both were killed. Meanwhile the RR had come to a stop and on the verge and continued to burn after the explosion. Several acres of farmland were destroyed as were some very expensive cows. The driver managed to escape unharmed. He was heard to say, "Bollox, the insurers will never believe this, I'll need to buy another one".

After owning five different LRs, I just had to walk away. I now own a Jeep JLU and I couldn't be happier (though it isn't my daily driver... that's a Volvo). Still looking for the perfect combination of off-road capability and refinement.
Land Rover makes the best every day drivers. My 2018 Range Rover Sport was a great car and now my 2023 Defender is the best car I've ever owned! I don't think theres another brand that makes vehicles as capable and comfortable as Land Rover. And their customer service is top tier. The dealerships by me send someone to my house to pick the car up with its ready for oil changes and drops it off after its finished which is such a nice touch!

Hi, watching one of your videos on the Honda HRV there is way to disengage traction control all the way by stepping on the break and turning it on and off until it flashes, I would love to see the HRV tested when traction control is completely turned off

Now THAT'S more like it. I'm more than happy to see what a vehicle can do on stock wheels and tires if I can then go watch a video of what it can... you know, actually do. New wheels and tires for a 110k vehicle is like 2 percent of the purchase price. It's just *dumb* to pretend that people who can afford this vehicle cannot also afford the correct wheels and tires for it if they plan to go off-road. But a side-by-side comparison of capability before and after is also well worth watching.
I had one , it is very capable off-road ! However as it aged the electrical gremlins kept it from being reliable in the Australian outback . So sold it and went for a reliable Lexus lx .
