    This is awesome. You can also splice by just double clicking with the crosshair.

    You can also split a track by putting the cursor where you want it, when it turns to a plus sign, just double click, it will split at that point

    • @22jmike
      @22jmike ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly, then it gives me space to keep another useful tool under command+click (I personally like listen tool as my alternative) I don’t see the point in having split tool there. Maybe I’m missing something.

      Ditto - rarely use the split tool. Note; track height needs to be sufficient to differentiate between the tool positions.

    2mins and 30 seconds intro that are worth it sooo much :) i relearned DAW by switching to S1 from 25 years of cubase. worked with both for 1 year to progress with a friend on a chune (he swedish S1 user / me german cubase from atari ST user) and after that year i didnt wanna go back to cubase at any time. i used the cracked version for 2 months and became a sphere member after that. f*ck dongles btw. - i HATED that kind of protection when i was goin out with just my notebook. anyways: you and gregor ROCK - i consumed so many vids of you both - they are so interesting and just gooood. helped me a lot. motivated me. learning that things can go simple and fast was the key to step away from my old thinking. you guys take the best from all the DAWs (thankfully a lot of the good from cubase) and even make stuff used often way more simple. i am a f*cking fanboy!

    • @JohnDeCarteretElvis
      @JohnDeCarteretElvis ปีที่แล้ว

      Careful, you'll get so pulled in. I've been doing this now for 43 years and have spent 10s of thousands on it as a hobby come semi-pro. But I haven't regretted any of it. At least now it's cheaper to get started and easier to find and get help. So go for it and I hope you get a kick out of it.
      One word, never be afraid to experiment, never think that I can't do that because you don't have the perfect or even the right tool(s) for the job. The best sounds come from improvisation and are by far the most rewarding and satisfying. And I believe also provide you with your best musical inspiration. It's not what you've got, but how you use it.

    Hi Joe, great video. I hadn't realised that I was already working that way. I only found out when I went to set it up. But one thing you might be able to help me with is the Range Tool when selected and you press ALT on a PC (Windows) you get a PLUS sign + come up along side it; but I can't figure out what exactly that does. It comes up and appears to disable the cursor!
    It's like big Cross and tiny cross side by side. Isn't that sweet! 🙂
    Take care, now you hear!

    I wish when holding the cmd key (on mac) that it would not only select the alternate tool, but that it would select again 2 alternate tools with top and bottom half. This would mean that with the tip I read in the other comments that a double click splits as well, then we basically would get 5 tools in this quick access manner. @PreSonus Audio Electronics

    • @3kkoolguy
      @3kkoolguy ปีที่แล้ว

      Also click on the bottom half opens the track in edit mode so when 2 tools are set, Arrow and Range we already have 2 other tools. As you said double click top half to split and bottome half to edit. This also works with midi

  • @oyaarss
    @oyaarss ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Thanks Joe - secondary/third tool options are great, such a timesaver. Any chance you could address the same for MIDI note editing? One of the most awkward features is the cursor changing from Velocity to Arrow to Split tool when you slowly move cursor from the top of a single midi note to bottom. Maybe I have missed an option where I can disable this, but having cursor change between three tools on the height of a midi note is really confusing. I think it's called Smart Edit or something, but if there's a way to disable it, that'd be great. Thanks!

    I use the selection tool with range as the Alt. I would just use the combined selection/range but it just doesnt work well compared to cubase. the range tool it way to fiddly unless the track is considerably zoomed in which is strange since the range tool works fine when selected by itself. having it as the alt also fixes the issue but I feel its wasting another opetion i could use.

  • @DeutschlandGuy
    @DeutschlandGuy ปีที่แล้ว +1

    07:10 The problem I see (starting with "I don't want this area") is that when you delete out that area and make a cut (07:16), then use your arrow tool move the newly defined event to the left (earlier), is that when you drag it to the left, Studio One "remembers" what comes next (after the initial cut) and pulls it to the left as well. That gives us "duplicate notes" where initially there was only one right after where you made the cut. You can clearly see this at 07:19.
    So how do we get around this when we simply want to move a "chunk" of audio either left or right (earlier or later)? That is, when we use the slice tool and define a small event, then move it, how do we tell Studio One, "I only want to move what is in the event BEFORE I move it... I don't want to drag along whatever follows the cut?
    I can understand your reluctance to use the "Blend Tool" for this purpose because (as I am sure you already know) we end up not just "moving" events but rather we are stretching/shrinking them (which by definition) creates distortion. 😵😵‍💫🥴

    Thanks Joe! I have used StudioOne for years. Yet, I don't think I have ever understood how these edit tools were supposed to work. (Until now.) Some observations: I think the 1+1+1+1+1+1 thing is incredibly hidden because the teeny little blue indicator under the alternate tool is so microscopic and unnoticeable. (The entire icon should change color, not a little underline.)
    This is great but is only a partial answer. The thing that is still confusing to me is when you open the "Edit Window" this behavior all changes. I do most of my editing in the editing window...(call me crazy.) And I do mostly MIDI, so using the Arrange view to edit audio, and Edit Window to do Midi seems weird and counterintuitive.

    Studio One 5 has great quality of sound but very disgusting workflow... If the interface would be so simple an intutitve as in FL Studio 20 .... Studio One would be the killer... Right now the drag and drops, sellections are awful... you want to move someting and you sellect it or you increase volume of this piece of wav file!!!!! you make a loop and then it suddenly desapeares. yYou can not define play and stop by the same key Space as in FL20. everything is not intuitive and few moves and you make a mess in your project... If you want to move a piece with audio file accidently you increase volume gain... total shit idea!
