I've stopped eating sugar for about 1 year now. I AM down to 155 lbs from 204 lbs. The foods you can eat is limited to natural foods, the outer isles in the grocery store. If you read labels you will see that everything processed has sugar added. I've never felt better and I am now 68 yrs young. Thank you Dr Mandell for all the info you put out there. We use pure cane sugar in the west Indies. The US uses corn fruitose syrup.

Hello, also, if I may suggest, there's a strong gut health mental health connnection. By repairing the gut you'll be free of mental problems. I healed from depression, anxiety and brain fog. I used the gaps diet, with probiotics rich fermented foods everyday. It makes a great difference in little time.

I think high fructose corn syrup is the worst ingredient ever concocted. It should be outlawed in the U.S. Just like other countries.

I swapped soft drinks with water. I have maintained this for months now. This is my first big step in cutting down on sugar.

I get no colds and flues like my mum did and we liked cookies and cakes. Why are you punishing yourself. Other things causes alzheimer and deseases.

My parents didn't let us eat sweets until around Christmas when my mother made pies and bite-sized confections, all homemade. Even then the amounts we ate were rationed. I never had a cavity until I was eleven and I was buying chocolate bars with my allowance. Went off sugar until the drinking years and then the sugar was through beer and sweet cocktails. After that, no sugar again until my current roommate who lives on sugar, is fat, borderline diabetic, etc, had/has sugary cr*p everywhere. He has neuropathy so badly! So I am off sugar again, probably for life. Thank you for this. I don't believe people know how bad it is for your entire body and brain. Cheers! 😊

A person with so much knowledge
I was hypoglycemic years ago. I used the Schwartzbein Principle to go low carb, which really helped for years, but when I went ketogenic, it was a game changer! Strict keto for 10 years now in a couple more months and will never go back! Just have to add electrolytes like magnesium , potassium and salt, and drink more water, because keto makes your body throw off water and salts. No sugar, no grains or starches. Eat high good fats like coconut oil, butter, avocados and fatty meats.

I quit sugar 8 years ago and did keto for a long time. I now eat some gluten free starches, fruit and occasional honey. I still have inflammation and GI issues and am now questioning sugar alcohols and tree nuts (two major players in many keto/low carb recipies)
A video on pros/cons of sugar alcohols and/or tree nuts would be awesome

I am a carbohydrate addict. I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes. As with any addiction l had to quit the carbs cold turkey. Just cutting down for me is like telling an alcoholic to just cut down on your alcohol intake. Am now eating carnivore and don't even crave carbs.

Two points ( among many). Losing weight is nearly impossible if you consume sugar. Your body uses sugar for energy and will not burn fat. Carbohydrates turn to sugar, with the same results. Seventy four year old man here. 6' 3" 180 lbs. 32" waist. Works for me. Although I do have to limit potatoes and pasta.

Shew! I've drunk my tea and coffee with sugar all my life. At 60, I drink black tea with no sugar. Slowly cuttting back in my coffee. It was easier to give up carbonated drinks. 😅
