My parents bought a Lane coffee table, a two-tiered end table and two more end tables, the model you are restoring. They have been in our family since I can remember and are still in the living room, except for the two-tiered which was given to me to furnish my apartment 15 years ago when I moved back home after my divorce. It was water-stained but functional. It wasn't until 3-4 months ago that I knew about these tables or their value. When my mother passed three years ago, I moved in with my widowed father, leaving what little furniture I had behind, including the Lane end table. A few months ago one of my daughters flew in for a visit. When she walked into the house, she marched right up to the coffee table and asked that I please leave it--and the others--to her in my will. She had never asked that before, and I couldn't understand why she was so anxious to have these tables, so she showed me on her phone how much they were. I couldn't believe my eyes! I asked my father if he knew these were Lane tables and he said yes, then he turned the coffee table over and showed me the LANE markings underneath. When I mentioned that I had left behind the two-tiered table in my apartment when I moved, they were absolutely furious with me, but no one had told me about these tables or anything about them. I was completely unaware. Oh well, at least we still have three of them, they really need refinishing but are otherwise in good shape. If my daughter had not said anything, I'd still be living in ignorance to this day.

Beautiful work! I love your videos. I am taking notes to renovate my own furniture. I personally only purchase wood furniture or antiques because I know it will last. I think that the modern furniture is just not built the same. I am from France and the French now tends to buy modern furniture, if you go on "Leboncoin" (the French Craiglist), you can find some really good deals on antique (outside Paris) . I purchased a 1940 dining room set with a very large table, canned chairs, hutch, and a sideboard with marble top for only 400 euros total.... All the pieces are hand carved and made of walnut. It would cost thousand of dollars in the US.

I recently picked up a Lane Acclaim coffee table from a yard sale. The finish was so faded and dry that the entire table appeared to be a light blonde color. I cleaned it, applied a feed and wax because it was incredibly dry, done some light sanding, used Restore-a-finish in Walnut on the center of the table and Golden Oak on the lighter areas. Using the two different stain colors created a more dramatic coloration.

Also, these were lacquer coated from the factory. Poly is okay but it does create a different finish. Not to detract from the job that was done here. But to be period correct and accurate lacquer coatings will sink into the grain over time and will look different than a poly finish will over time.

However, while your resto's are great, you have stained this too dark compared to the at least 100 pieces of Acclaim I have come across and sold. It's looks great and may be the lighting, but the pieces from the factory are lighter than your end result and showcase the dovetail detail more. Just My Opinion.
