    I agree with you JJ, the whole look of the exterior gives it that timeless elegance you don’t find in many cars today and the interior packaging is so relaxing and cosseting. Couple all the looks with a ride that is supremely comfortable, yet still has that sporty feedback with the wonderful, silky smooth V6 makes driving the car a sense of occasion no matter where the road takes you.

    I have a silver 2001 CLK320 Elegance. Glorious looking car, just beautiful. It spent most of its life in a garage and had only done 35000 km when I got it in 2019. There were a few oil leaks and I've had to replace the fuel pump, aircon compressor and crank position sensor. The interior has some loose bits and the centre bin underneath the radio has cracked, but I still love it. You have to expect to do some maintenance and spend more $$ on an older car. It just trundles along in the suburbs but it comes alive on the freeway. It takes off over 100 kmh/60 mph and it's very smooth and comfortable, a real grand tourer. It is thirsty but fortunately I have a very short trip to work and I don't pay for fuel so that was a big bonus. If that was not the case you would have to give it a lot of thought. I think older, well looked after and little used Mercs are a great buy if you can find them. The style and class is hard to resist if you want something a cut above the mainstream brands. Not much else compares, especially to a CLK and Merc coupes in general.

    There are only two things I do not like about my -06 clk 320 cdi.
    The location of the cruise control lever is the first. The car is in storage through the winter, and on the first trips in the spring, I always mess a lot with the cruise control and turn signals.
    Another thing, clk is a quiet car, minimal with road noise, and the same with wind noise, but headlight dimmer switch makes twice as high clicks than the one sitting in the -96 Polo I drive in winter. I live in northern Norway, here it is daylight 24/7 in the summer, so I fortunately do not use it that often, hehe.

    • @JJonCars
      @JJonCars  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think I prefer cruise control controls to be on the steering wheel itself, but only if they are done the right way.
      My problem with the light switch is that in the dark, the symbols are not lit up, so you can only see the light switch dial itself and not what setting it is actually on! I hadn't noticed the loud click, but I bet I will now 😄
      Cheers Frode!

    • @davefrance3721
      @davefrance3721 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JJonCars I noticed that when I got the car. I thought there was a problem. I usually have the auto lights on, but you have to turn the switch to manual to get the fog lamps to come on if you need them.
      To make matters worse, if you turn the switch looking for the manual position and you turn them to OFF you think you have the lights in manual and a couple of seconds later the lights go off !
      Bloody frightening when you don't expect it.
      I have heard that early models had illuminated switches but after about 2004 they didn't.
      Whoever thought if that idea needs to be sacked.
      I don't always leave my lights in auto during the darker months, as the lights can come on during the day when going under a tree for example. Someone waiting to pull out of a junction further up the road thinks you have flashed them to let them out. !!!

    • @JJonCars
      @JJonCars  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@davefrance3721 If I do a video on things I don't like about the CLK, the light switch is going in there! And if they removed the lights after 2004, that's just very stingy of them!

    Not much I don’t like about my 07 CLK AMG Convertible. It’s a great all round grand tourer and smooth luxury day to day driver too. Still looks fab especially with the top down in nice weather. Great that you can take a couple of friends with you on a nice day trip with the top down and they are comfortable in the back. The only thing I don’t like is the safety warnings as soon as to start the car the flipping thing starts beep warning you about stuff such as to put your seatbelt on.

    • @JJonCars
      @JJonCars  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh nice car! I wasn't sure on what the leg room is like in the back of the convertible, so it's great to hear you can fit adults in the back.
      Cars are just getting worse in that regard, now they won't even let you steer or brake the car without giving their 'helpful' input 😄

      Where are you in the world ?
      I'm in the UK, My 07 CLK doesn't nag me until I am driving and get above 20 mph. The noise is pretty discreet at first, I fact I barely notice it.
      My wife's ford focus is practically raging at me if I drive off without the seatbelt on, then more warnings if I leave the lights on after switching off the engine and again if I leave the key in the ignition if I open the door.

    I've only had my licence for 10 months, bought a vw polo gti that the dealer lied about and is a death trap. Needed another car and one of these came up. I've only had a total of 3 months driving as the vw is off road under investigation. I was a bit taken back about how big it was in comparison. Now ive had it for 3 weeks, it's an absolute dream to drive. It feels like I'm prooerly driving as you do really need to plan ahead unlike the polo that could brake or pull away in an instant. Tax is mega expensive , £336 and insurance is high too. But I'd highly recommend one to anyone. My only gripe is that although mine is immaculate inside, it has this smell of an old damp unused dusty basement which that mould spores wreek havoc with my nose. I can taste it when i use the ac. Any way of getting rid of this? It's an 07 clk 220 cdi.

    Old video and I don't expect an answer but i'll try here: I didn't find anything very useful on the internet except lack of or bad coolant. I've checked my coolant and everything seems fine. I have a 2004 200 compressor and the engine gets hot. Like, Hot-hot. I can put my hand on it after a drive but not for more than 10-20 seconds. Oil stays at a steady 85c* but i just dont think it's supposed to get this hot ... Am i wrong? Other cars that i've had have had a warm engine but not hot. Is it dangerous to drive like this? And what can I do to troubleshoot?

      I shall reserve judgement until I drive a W208 - I do like them, I almost bought a black 320 with a red interior (red everything, plastic and seats!) at one point in time :)

      The sales numbers would disagree.
      And I think the enthusiasts would disagree.
