I certainly can't claim that there's a "MUST TRY" for anything in Japan, as different people ultimately like different things for all sorts of different reasons. We really enjoyed Hama Sushi. My opinion is that, Kura Sushi and Sushiro are behind with taste and price of Hama Sushi. Can't wait to go there again. 😀
The cost is perplexingly low. In the US, mid-tier sushi places charge twice and three times as much. Tamago at many US sushi restaurants is four times the cost of what is shown here.
Japan has been in a recession for like 30 years so the currency is weak so the prices start out lower and then conveyor belt sushi being so iconic has basically been optimized for this sole purpose. Like when McDonald's says they're replacing cashiers with computers, conveyor belt sushi has been doing that for decades. So weak currency and less workers and being an island, you get better locally sourced fish that you don't need to pay for transport
