Thank you!! WAAAAAAY more helpful than the video Mountainsmith put out. Thanks for taking the time to slowly show us the correct way for installation.

I agree 100 percent . I made a comment on the mountainsmiths video that it sucked and to make another one and I put a link top this one .

Thank you. I was struggling and trying everything I could think of to get the lower end of the straps to attach. I didn't understand that the toggle fit inside that receiver part behind the waist strap. I am so glad you posted this video

Thank you for this demonstration. I had bought the Mountain Smith lumbar pack and was about to chuck it until I saw a video about the strapettes but the demonstration was not at nice as yours as the demonstration was on a black pack and made it really difficult to see where to attach the bottom of the strapettes. By using a different color pack it made it much easier to see. I think I am going to like the new pack, now. Without the strapettes, the pack put way too much pressure, weight onto my hips.

A lot of people watching this video who have no idea about these lumbar packs don't understand the whole concept and the reason for a lumbar pack. I mean, if you need the strapettes, why not go for a regular pack with hip belts, right?
Well, it is not that simple.....
    1) You see, the best place to carry the weight is on THE HIPS, not the shoulders which would put some strain in your back as well on longer jaunts. A regular backpack with hip belts, while placing the weight mostly on the hips will also place some strain on your shoulders, you do have weight very close to them as well and you need to stabilize it so that it won't be flopping around so high up.
    2) Having all the weight down low on your hips will free your spine and shoulder and put the weight on the most heavy duty component of your body. The problem with a large lumbar pack is that it carries more weight than most other packs and therefore you will get up and down motions as you walk horizontally but more so coming down at speed from a mountain. So while you get side to side stability you don't have this vertically, ergo the strapettes will limit the pack downward motion past the horizontal axis of the pack.
    3) Having this pack so down low means the upper back is much more refreshed. Yes, the lower back will still get sweaty and you lose the ability to carry extra junk in your shoulders.
This pack is great for dayhikes or fast weekend/overnighters for those ultralighters. Yes, it is heavy with the strapettes at 2 lbs, but then the light stuff you are carrying already makes up for it and you can carry 1L bottles on each side and the hefty food as well. I am dialed in for late spring to summer to early fall at 6 lbs 10 oz without food and water. Add 4 lbs 4 oz for 2-1L Smart water bottles plus the requisite 4 lbs of food (first day you have a heavy breakfast BEFORE the hike, 3rd and last day you have a POST-hike huge dinner) and you are right at under the15 lbs (max recommended as per manufacturer) for a full 3 day/2 night hike! I have the OR Helium Bivy plus the requisite Thermarest and use anything from the Escape SOL bivvy to a 20 oz, 20 Degree Brooks Range Quilt for a sleeping cover, depending on the season.

At 2:22 does the hard plastic piece from the strapette just feeds into the plastic piece on the pack and lock into place or do you feed the strap through and loop it over and back into the strapette plastic piece .

How much does the set weigh?

I may have made an error. I should have watched this before I ordered strappettes, because my older model DAY doesn't seem to have the same attachment points. Dang.

Are you sure? Every generation of Day and Tour I've seen have provisions for the strappettes. It may be a slot though, not a buckle. You might want to look it over again just to be sure.
