Dave - ease up on your mechanics!! They do amazing honest work. Don’t embarrass them on camera dude!!
Yeah, not a fan of his attitude 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
It's all in good fun.
@@CULT539 What I mean is, that Dave's behavior is just how he is. He doesn't mean any harm in it. He just likes to give his mechanics a hard time sometimes to keep them on their toes. He didn't get where he is by being an underachiever.
I think that mechanics are quitting because the pay is poor, the respect is lacking and the job is getting increasingly difficult with all of the technology on modern cars.
@@CULT539 how do you know they're quitting lol?
They're not.@@TreyGoose
I feel bad for Tyson, just beginning a diag on multiple issues, getting a camera shoved in his face with the boss on top of him, pulling him different directions lol. My diag process differs from job to job, vehicle to vehicle. Considering the wisdom an experienced machanic has, give him an hour to give a report on his findings and results and data based on various checks.
They say you can’t be a good honest person and be in business, I think Dave and his entire crew prove different!👍👍👍
hey dave, i like people who talk loud. Im 77 and deaf, jet mechanic in the navy and a diesel mechanic.
I'm hearing youn brother
@@garyyoung-b2v could you speak up? I couldn’t hear you? My wife will say I’m talking in shop mode.
Nice to see Clint Eastwood doing great and running a successful shop!
You mean Michael Saylor from Temu?
2:50 "Why you talking so loud dude? Just talk." Cracked me up. Then... his voice slowly got louder again. 😂
I worked with a loud talker years ago, 35 yrs in heavy industry can do that to a guy. Problem was you go out for a couple of beers and the dude would talk even louder.
@@danaveye3977 😆
I love when we go from the Ryobi battery run to the real air gun and the difference is immediate. Long live air tools!
You guys are a treasure trove of knowledge and experience. I really enjoy watching folks who know what the heck they are doing.
Jag tech here. The jag is leaking from the lower timing cover bung, you can tell it’s an old style because it’s white, new ones come black. However these models do also like to leak from the rear main as well. The transaxle leak is from the RHS PTU seal and also can be a common concern.
Nice insight 💯
Any insight on how this guy treats his mechanics?
@@darrellgarrett2535 end of the day he’s the owner, but I do agree on video he shouldn’t be making the tech look silly or second guessing himself
Tyson deserves a raise.
best thing you can buy when drilling broken bolts is a "center punch alignment tool set" they're little cones that fit over different sized holes and align the punch dead center, pretty cheap too.
Problem is where do you get real drill bits
@@gulfy09 Norseman?
Mac or strap on
Hey Dave. You can get left hand drill bits. Often times, more times than not, drilling the broken bolt out with a left hand bit will back the broken bolt out.
Usually that works if the bolt was torqued
@@danaveye3977depends on if the bolt was stretched and/or if there's excessive friction from corrosion, now how much torque was applied.
@otterconnor942 not in my experience
@@danaveye3977 so if an m2 and and m20 are both torqued to 50nm. The m2 will obviously stretch and fail, and the m20 will not be stretched at all. Then if you grind off the head of the bolt. Do you still think the m20 won't come out with a left hand drill bit?
@otterconnor942 I said
I recently bought a (cheap) set of index drills from Harbor Freight and used them for the first time. I bought them because even when center punching I still sometimes had a problem with the drill bit walking. Amazing how well a centering index drill works.
That's a great tip. Thanks for sharing!
Cattywampus and perpendicular in the same breath is Dave magic!
I use left hand drill bits for this gets a lot of them out with out easy out
I am glad to know that your going to do the right thing on the Dirtymax ..most shops especially shops like firestone Midas they would replace every thing with oem and dont realize some engines you need to upgrade and waste teh customers money by not doing it right ..Good job ..good video
I always appreciate these videos, there is something special in this workshop going on. Mentorship and passing on skills. Besides they seem to have great fun.
Enjoy your videos, and you are right cavitation is bad. It will destroy pumps and such. But it is caused by fluid entering a pump (or in a pump inlet pipe) being drawn into vacuum. Harder the vacuum, the lower the boiling point of the fluid. Pump pulling a hard suction on inlet boils fluid creating bubbles. Then when these bubbles transfer to the high pressure side of the pump, they collapse, violently. When they collapse it creates very small high velocity jets of fluid which impact pump gears/pistons/vanes and cause the infamous cavitation damage you see.
I don’t think I’d want to work for Dave. Great mechanic with many years of experience, but I’m happy with my boss. I tell him what it needs.
Hola señor Dave …you guys have a lot of knowledge and experience to diagnose problems like that problem that anyone can never find when fixing a vehicle same thing happened to me few years ago with a fuel problem that four mechanic shop can’t figure out mean while I had to pay for their service 😢and at the end it was like a money pit 😢😢 and my catalytic converter was turning bright red so I decided to dump it and sold it as junk 😢😢😢cause I didn’t have the money to keep wasting and hoping that an old vehicle would be a smart idea to keep around 😢😢😢but now I understand that takes knowledge and experience to offer quality service to your customers…keep up the great content!!!!Saludos!!!👋😃👋
Appreciate you watching!

Love watching these videos, but geez Dave… back it down a notch and let your techs shine, instead of your insecurities. The passive aggressive beat downs are not called for.
If you’ve ever worked in a real shop you know at Dave meanest he’s still 99% nicer than most.
@AllTheBoost lots of real shops out there and the boss doesn't talk to them in a undermining way, especially whenputting them on camera.

@kennethbrown8723 Not at all. I've lasted 20 years as a heavydiesel mechanic working in different parts of the world came across guys like this more than once or twice. If you let them talk to you in an undermining manner, they will keep it up. My point is why put it on camera to show the world.

@cliffordmontana4562 Yes,
@@cliffordmontana4562if we're going to be fair, trucks used to last forever, and now they don't. Companies should be making their vehicles, cars or trucks, to last at least 250k miles.

Dave I was thirty five years in the trades and I wince every time your men don’t use safety glasses.
The more I watch Dave's videos, the happier I am that I drive a 2012 Honda Accord that DOES NOT have direct injection.
6:50 I recently had to tell my desiel mechanic I needed a new primary water pump. After 3 days of testing and all he could find it. It never leaked for him. He put it under pressure, ran the motor, et al. I told him....
As it's leaking I bring it in and drag him away from what he was doing and he looked and said, "yep, it's the water pump." Ah, these young guys. Just listen o us old guys. We know sumpin'.
You make it look easy
Best advice he could give. Don't buy a new modern day electronic diesel unless you are getting paid for running it
Sounds like the MB-dealer wasn't up for the job. I've just found the bolt and bracket separately. That's a common issue, and I've changed a bunch of them.
For the Mercedes those turbo brackets are known to crack at the base, odd to see the bolts sheared off. Anyway, love the channel!!

Was that a heat tab on that Jag? Just curious as to why that plug is there to begin with? Great diagnosis, don't know of too many shops that would steam clean an engine once, let alone twice, to find a leak!
used engine!
Minor correction on liquid and compression: Liquid *does* compress, but it's such a small proportion of their overall volume that we colloquially state "liquids are incompressible." It's de facto reality, rather than a physical truth.
19:48 That’s predator blood 😂
1:35 with threads that clean and without load i'd just use a reversed drill to back the bolt out.
You can get the turbo bolts at FCP Euro
To center the drill use a carpenters door hinge screw centering tool, but you have to change the bit to metal from wood....dead center every time.....
If you use reverse drill bits, it could pull out the broken stud while drilling
2011 gm trucks. If you ever find multi codes and find a U code. this is a clear sign you shouldn't touch anything but start looking for modules going off line. Id never touch that fuel system. Steel bolt sheared off into AL?
I inherited a 2006 Bentley Flying Spur. It was my late fathers and I really wanted to preserver the car. W12 Twin Turbo. 54k so at first thought you would think a good car. Unfortunately, it sat for a few years not able to be driven and the car suffered from that but also repairs by a "so called expert" in these cars. I am very mechanically inclined, but this car is a very tough cookie to work on. It was a previously owned car by a limo company, and for some reason they painted it white ( I am sure they could have gotten it wrapped ) original color jade green. In total I was looking at over 24k in repairs and paint. Such a shame, but I had to let it go. Even if you have a car that sits in your garage. You need to drive it. Keep fresh oil and other fluids. Seals need to stay lubricated. But also if you buy a brand like AMG / Mercedes or Bentley... prepare for some real steep repairs if something breaks.
Jade green? Thats British Racing Green
@@danaveye3977 You are probably correct. I went off of visual rather than "official" color.
Forbidden glitter in that fuel filter
Nice diagnosis. We always start off with degreasing the engine. And then looking for leaks after a test drive. Depending on how bad or how many leaks there are. Nice analysis guys 😊
Oil leaking Jag sounds pretty standard to me. Feature keeping oil fresh with regular top ups 😂
Seems the diesels are falling out of favor, sorry to say. DEF and EGR nightmares are hurting the trades that need these to run EVERY DAY. Thanks, EPA.
Left hand drill bit ?
About how much does it cost to repair a vehicle that had the CP4 break?
Tyson!!!!😂
loving the new video!
Off centre with the cobalt drill isnt such a big deal compared to overworking the extractor and snapping that off in the bolt.
Hi Dave, I am looking towards buying an engine that is rare and expensive in my area for a swap that is a good price but it experienced piston to valve contact. Do you think it would be worth it to rebuild it at home and have a shop do the machine work or would it be too far gone? I have a head that may fit if the original is too gone and would like to keep the crank as they are very expensive and difficult to find. Thank you for your time,
-James Anderson
When water is cooled to ice the it expands due to crystalline structure (phase change). Nothing to do with incompressible media.
Water at 5000 bar may still compress a few percent due to dissolved gasses present in the liquid. But for all practical purpose liquids such as water, diesel are non compressible.
Drilling a bit in the center may still not work out as the fracture surface may not be perpendicular leveled with the threaded bore.
Ideally you need to use a guide bushing that centers the pilot drill during the drilling process.
This feels like an Episode of House.
Oo : Guess why this car leakes coolant ! 3....2.....1.....Waterpump!

Hey Tyler. Blink twice in the next video if you're in danger... Lol
You better be a good and knowledgeable tech in Daves shop. You better know your stuff.
Jaguar oil leak is coming from the blanking plug, very common
100% they all do that. Thankfully a cheap repair
They’ve only been making cars for 90 years. One day they’ll figure out how to make a half decent one.
Does the blanking plug leak because the engine gets too hot and sealant goes soft or metal expands at different rates? Given that a blanking plug doesn't do anything for the entire life of the car, it seems like a pretty stupid thing to have go wrong.
