    Again. Thank you for making theory understandable. Some videos I've watched, make it sound a lot harder than what it is. I've subscribed to your channel, and will be sending a link to my musical friends to join too. All the best. 👍

    Hi Ricky, Thankyou for this and I am very keen to learn the various licks that can be played like the one you played at time starting 4.03 for example (it was done very fast). Do you have a video where I can learn how to play various
    licks from these pentatonics?
    Thankyou so much.

      You need this video. Learn it and let me know how you got on! th-cam.com/video/PcnwxUOC8pc/w-d-xo.html
      If you get that run down then this next lesson connects to that idea. My voice sounds weird as my interface was freakin out. But. The info is solid

    Ricky, I need to start from scratch. Which is your first video? I have been winging it for years, but I have time now to get to really know my guitar. I would like to know how to play chord shapes all over the fret board without barring. Like, instead of playing G in its first position, where else can I play it, or F, or C, etc...I hope this makes sense. Barring is almost impossible for me, :(

    • @rickysguitar
      @rickysguitar  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What problems do you have with barring? Do your hands function normally or have you suffered an injury? 99.9% of lessons on barre chords make it overly complicated because they don't account for hand anatomy and ligament movement.

      Eyup John! It's a 1973 USA Fender Stratocaster. It's great but...21 frets....I need 22 or I lose the plot in the dusty end of the neck. It's weird. There's a video on this topic lol

    I see the frets numbers working in your guide…but doesn’t the diagram only work fully for the minor pentatonic? I.e. the root notes in the diagram are correct for Am pentatonic on the 5th fret…but AMaj pentatonic on the 2nd has the roots at different locations than the diagram. Am I wrong?

    • @rickysguitar
      @rickysguitar  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm a little unsure of your questions. All keys will have different locations for the root note of the box 1 minor pentatonic. Maybe an easier way to understand it is:-
      1. Decide the key. i.e: D Major
      2. Find the key tonic D on the thick E string.
      3. Drop down a minor 3rd to find the root note for the relative minor and bingo! that's where the comfy familiar box 1 minor pentatonic pattern lives. This is trickier for the keys of F#, F and E as you run out of frets to backwards (to the head nut) so what we do is transpose an octave higher F#=14th fret, F=13th fret, E=12th fret.
      EVERYTHING transposes on guitar! Hope that helps

    • @patjschmidt
      @patjschmidt 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rickysguitar I think you answered it in #3. The diagram shows R in red and then the list of frets to find the box. It makes it seem to me that the PDF indicates that the root will be in those red places each time, where in reality as you say for a major the relative minor’s roots are there with the major’s roots in other places. E.g. Cmaj roots for box 1 at 8th fret on low and high e + 5th fret on g string.

    I dont get this, what am I missing?
    ....if you are in the key of A major, just play an A minor pentatonic over it, why move about and use it's relative minor?

    • @rickysguitar
      @rickysguitar  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You'd think playing A minor pentatonic would work... It kind of does but it turns the A Major chord I into sonic mush because you essentially end up with 2 3rds (minor and Major) which are a semitone apart and they clash. If your phrasing is off it all sounds off! You also change the quality of the tonic (chord I) into a bluesy Dominant chord. That's cool if you want a bluesy sound. But what if you don't? Hmmm. Then you're stumped. By all means switch between to add flavour. But in my mind you need to be explicit in your notes choices. I have a video in mind which tackles this question deeper.
