Windu gave Palpatine the chance to surrender. A Jedi in the Old Republic wouldn't have even hesitatated as long as Windu did and then followed through...
Two chances honestly, first time with the other Jedi. Second time after he disarmed Palpatine. It wasn’t until Palpatine went lightning crazy that Mace decided to finish him instead.
Mace Windu is an authority figure that people have a hard time understanding until they themselves carry authority. It's like becoming a manager at a job or a sergeant in the military; it's a massive difference in perspective from being just another worker with the boys.
The kind of mental gymnastics it takes to see Windu as a villian, and Anakin of all people, the guy who slaughtered innocent children. Twice. One of times, the children trusted him, looked up to him. Also, it's obvious Palpatine was still a major threat. Unlike Dooku, who had his hands cut off, and was actually subdued, Palpatine showed he could still kill without his lightsaber. He was still a threat, and the fight was not over.
Don't forget guys - Palpatine was the actual traitor. He was the one who orchestrated the war with enemy faction and in doing so consigned trillions to deaths. His whole speech about "treason" is just bullshit for the hidden cameras in his office. Mace Windu was the hero here. He knew about this duplicity of Palpatine, because the Jedi knew that Dooku had a Sith master. So the entire dillema of whether Windu is justified to kill legal head of the state is moot. Palpatine is not legal chief of the state - he is a traitor and a mass murderer. Windu was completely in his right to strike this man down.
Well no. Palpatine was still the legal head of state. He absolutely committed treason but that doesn't give Mace the legal authority to dole out summary executions.
@@Rj-pw7zs and this is why the Jedi needed to separate from the Republic. When you live in a universe where the only people who can shoot electricity from their fingers are objectively and maniacally evil (not true in the extended universe, but point being) the policy is stab first and deal with the fallout later
@@Rj-pw7zs Considering the fact that he resisted arrest by law enforcement officers (yes, Jedis have that role), refused to surrender more than once, killed a few officers with magic, pretended to be too weak to fight, then attacked again, indeed Windu was justified in his actions. Was it legal? No. But only because the devil himself that was Palpatine ensured it was not legal. Killing Palpatine was as legal as killing Hitler by a German Police officer would have been. It would have been the right thing to do.
@@mortalitydoesstuff8965 Which is something Windu was willing to do. This was his sacrifice and judging from his conduct he would have faced the responsibility. The fallout of this action would have split the Jedi from the Republic on its own.
If I were a youngling, I’d want Mace Windu as my master. As you’ve said, he’s the epitome of the Jedi code. He is unwavering in his conviction. He didn’t hesitate to speak directly to what he saw in The Chosen One, even after all the exploits. He is fearless. Despite abiding under the shroud of darkness for a decade & never having seen a Sith in battle, the second they identified the Sith Lord that had manipulated and subdued the entire republic, he though, “I’ll just go arrest him. He can’t f@(k with me.” He was powerful enough to beat Sidious in single combat. A truly remarkable character. And yes they have to bring him back. He deserves his own trilogy. The Shatterpoint novel was amazing & I’d love to see more Windu on his home world.
Windu had one failing. Oddly, it was the same failing Anakin had. He had attachments. Unlike Anakin, his attachments were (as this video established early) two organizations. The thought of the Republic, or the Jedi Order being destroyed (rightly) terrified him. In that one, pivotal moment, he allowed his attachments, his fear, the anger it brought, to lead him to violate his own personal code, as well as the Jedi code, and kill Palpatine instead of arresting him. Just as Palpatine intended.
My problem with Mace is that he is the epitome of Dogma, which is the core problem of the jedi order, rules without the why. D&D terms he is LN rather than the Force's NG, which puts him at odds with the Force
He’s also a bit prideful and not willing to admit when he makes a mistake. *cough cough* Ahsoka *cough* I mean he wasn’t wrong for being cautious about Anakin. But we never see him actually showing any belief that Anakin could become a great Jedi someday. You know, something a master on the high counsel should do for those lower ranking knights.
Even if we apply his so called.shatterpoint ability and him seeing Anakin as THE shatterpoint, why wouldn't he try to befriend Anakin and try to guide him and show him brotherhood. I would say Anakin's biggest weakness that Palps exploited is he was never treated as a equal by the order aside from Obi Wan, and later Asohka. If he was properly accepted from the beginning he may not have even pursued padme. He was looking for acceptance outside of the order because he never got it.
I find it absolutely insane, that Windu is treated as a villian, while the guy who murdered children, you just come up with one excuse after another. Blaming everyone around, except him.
Everything Windu was is what Anakin should've been as a Jedi. Anakin didn't like Mace because he was a living reminder of what he should be in the order. Mace even refused to teach Anakin Vaapad because of his mental instability and ease of falling to the Dark side. Of which he was correct. Had Anakin not been emotional and used the Force to guide him he wouldve seen through the lies. Helped Mace and kept his wife alive, thus saving the Jedi and bringing balance
Damn thank you for keeping Star Wars alive for us guys. The amount of information we can squeeze out from past stories is truly impressive, and it shows the depth they Star Wars can go to. It's refreshing to talk about that rather than how the newer stories suck and dissect the pitfalls of the writing. Keep up the good work activists!
I just always assumed master windu was highly aware of the tolerance paradox and just like his lightsaber style, windu seemed to be able to ride the tight rope. I mean this specifically in his storming of palpatine’s quarters in revenge of the sith.
And instead of investigations into Palpetine or telling any other Jedi, he just stormed into a dangerous situation and triggered order 66 and made himself the symbol of Jedi failure
Also, Windu was so laser-focused on ending the threat Palpatine posed that he clearly did not consider the consequences the Jedi and the Republic would face because of his actions. If Windu struck Palpatine down, it's likely Palpatine would become a martyr because he was popular as Chancellor. With Palpatine dead and martyred as well as the Republic not able to function as it did before the Clone Wars, it is possible the Empire will rise anyway just without Palpatine in charge. Public opinion towards the Jedi was already suffering as the Clone Wars dragged on. Due to this, if Windu killed Palpatine, his actions would have turned the Jedi into pariahs across the Republic. Windu is a strong and capable Jedi, but I don't think he thought through his attempt on Palpatine's life.
I dont think he ultimately cared Remember the look on his face when he swung that blade to kill sidious. I think he realized "as long as he is dead? We can live with the fallout"
There could be a possibility that The Jedi could prove of Palpatines treachery. Some members of the Senate like the Delegation of 2000 was very concerned of Palpatines growing power. The Jedi could end up finding proof of Palpatines treason and being the secret leader of the separatists. Anything could be possible if Mace killed palpatine.
@@AhsokaTano1999Palpatine did have a hidden lair hnderneath the senate Chambers and Windu almost found but the battle of couriscant happen taking him away from that.
Mace's greatest mistake was that he was impatient. When Anakin told him that Palpatine was a Sith Lord, Mace should have realized he was being baited. He pulled a few masters with him to immediately confront Palpatine. Instead, he should have alerted the Jedi Council and then go deal with Palpatine, so the Jedi would be on guard if Mace failed.
@dorianjames9021 yeah panicked because he realized they had already given absolute power to the sith lord they had been looking for for years, he knew something like order 66 was gonna happen, and it was better to attack while they had a chance, what he didn't no, was how damn powerful sideous was, if he has known he was strong enough to kill three masters in less then five seconds, mace probably would have waited for more help
This was great man! Thanks for it! I 100% believe Mace did NOTHING wrong! At the end of the day, he was right about the needing to kill the chancellor, he was right about how dangerous he was, and he was right about Anakin. As much as I love Ani, he did turn to the dark side. Not only that, he turned his back on everything he loved including Padme, who wa the reason for it all! Mace gets an unnecessary amount of hate and he is still one of my favorites.
Its amazing how many people have such a deep love and amazing comprehension of star wars and what it truely is yet disney seemingly only ever hires people who have neither to write its new stories.
I did enjoy this video with you guys talking about mace. I have read the comics and the novels and not once was it ever stated that Mace Windu's body was ever found . If they were to bring me back I would like to see him in a pre Phantom Menace
In in this case, I believe that Miss Wu just shows tough love and believe me when I say you rather see him do the tough love and not master Yoda because whenever he gets mad, he even scarier than me Mace widu in fact in Gotham, penguin tempted gym to do the same thing to Azrael and someone had to push Anakin’s buttons otherwise we wouldn’t get dark Vader. God bless you and Jesus loves you.
There's a line in Attack of the Clones that sums up Mace's and Anakin's ideologies perfectly, and I'm referring to when Anakin says "If people can't be trusted to make the right choice, someone stronger should do it for them." Mace was never like that as a character in all rights he could of easily been able to follow that line of thinking, but ultimately he'd push people to make the right, moral decision and I want to say he did trust Anakin the look on his face when Anakin cuts his hand off that's not a look of anger, that's a look of confusion and bewilderment that can only really come from having trusted the person who just wronged you. But what do I know it's Star Wars maybe I'm over analyzing the scene.
I always liked Mace not my favorite but still had mad respect for him being untrusting of Anakin and being able to go toe to toe with Palpatine. I dont get the argument of Mace holding responsibility for the way Anakin turned out. He treated Anakin like he would any other jedi he didnt coddle him for being the supposed chosen one. Anakin was arrogant himself something the two had in common but where they differed is that arrogance led Anakin to break rules constantly one being marriage which was the REAL thing that turned. If Palpatine didnt have that to hold over his head i believe Anakin wouldnt have interfered with the execution. Maces arrogance was linked to his faith and confidence in the jedi he still obeyed there rules he simply was blinded to the possibility of sith returning. Yet he still was willing to face and capable of holding his own once there was no disputing there existence.
This is such a cool discussion! Thank you for the longer form video! When thinking of Mace Windu, I have long seen parallels with Vrook Lamar. Both are strict, borderline authoritarian, and have an inflexible relationship with the Jedi Code. Vrook‘s sternness and unforgiving behavior with Revan and the Exile is harsh but informed by firsthand experience. Vrook experienced a galaxy on fire and ravaged by the Mandalorians and the Sith. However, Windu lived most of his life in a period of relative peace when the Sith threat was believed to be extinct, with the Rule of Two era being either a secret or a boogeyman-style rumor. Doesn’t Windu’s (early) behavior seem extreme given that he is largely reacting to hypotheticals?
Because Anakin wanted power, and that’s not what the Jedi stand for. Mace Windu knew what it was like to want power, he could control and anakin couldn’t. That’s why he never trusted him and he wanted to test anakins mental stability and fortitude by denying him master and Anakin wanted power. Mace is heavily understood.
And sidious manipulation had a toll on anakin , because of the visions anakin was desperate now some Jedi during that scene thought that anakin was immature and all but sidious influence corrupted him which caused skywalker to influence for his dreams to come true
To be fair - Anakin should not have been a Jedi at all, at this point. You cannot be a Jedi and be married. So clearly even moreso he did not deserve the title of Master.
@@GeneralGreivous5you are wrong the Jedi do stand with power because if they didn't mace wouldn't have told Dooku not to draw his saber when he was interrogating the senator who killed the Jedi when he was young. Jedi who starred with power want to stand with those who openly commit murder against Jedi because they don't want to understand that people do things bad.
I completely agree with you. Anakin and Windu had many similarities. They wan same thing-peace,justice,honesty,unity. They just go about it different way. Windu served people not directly but he served them. He loved Republic but he didn't like or trust the Senate. This changes view about Mace. Windy had better understanding. I agree,if Anakin and Windu talked and work together they would undermine and destroy the Sith. May the Force be with you too😊
I don't like his treatment of Ahsoka, but he did nothing wrong as far as Anakin was concerned. Mace was completely justified telling Anakin to stay behind (considering his friendship with Palpatine) and he was justified in using lethal force after Palps murdered three Jedi Masters. He never hated Anakin, he just recognized that Anakin was emotionally unstable.
Exactly. People are always saying if they’d just let Anakin be a Jedi master then he’d have never fully fallen to the dark side…but that’s not the point. Quite the opposite. Jedi masters are supposed to be expert emotional regulators among other things and the council in general always said Anakin needed to learn to let go before he could be given the rank of master. Every time they said no, Anakin got more hurt and bitter. .. So then people say, “should’ve let him be master then he wouldn’t have fallen to the dark side!” But that’s no different than saying “you should just have let your child get whatever they wanted at the store…then they wouldn’t have thrown the tantrum. It’s your fault for telling your kid no so many times and sticking to the principle that your kid is now falling out having a fit in this Target” lol like make it make sense.
@Tuturial464 In the Star Wars universe, the title of Jedi Master is reserved for those who demonstrate exceptional skill, wisdom, and dedication to the Jedi Order. Both Mace Windu and Yoda, two of the most prominent Jedi in the prequel era, exemplify the qualities and achievements that justify their esteemed ranks. This essay explores why Mace Windu and Yoda deserved the rank of Master, focusing on their contributions to the Order, their personal qualities, and their role in the broader Star Wars narrative. **Mace Windu’s Exceptional Combat Skills and Leadership** Mace Windu's rise to the rank of Jedi Master is deeply rooted in his extraordinary combat abilities and strategic acumen. Windu was renowned for his mastery of the lightsaber combat form Vaapad, a highly advanced and dangerous technique he invented. Vaapad allowed Windu to channel his own inner darkness into a force for good, demonstrating a profound understanding of the dark side and its control. His combat skills were instrumental in numerous conflicts, including the Battle of Geonosis, where he led the charge against the Separatist forces and played a pivotal role in the rescue of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Padmé Amidala. Windu's role as a battlefield commander and his tactical prowess during the Clone Wars showcased his capability to lead and make critical decisions under pressure, qualities essential for a Jedi Master. **Yoda’s Wisdom and Longevity** Yoda’s ascendancy to Jedi Master was a natural progression from his unparalleled wisdom and longevity within the Jedi Order. Serving as a mentor for over 800 years, Yoda provided guidance and training to countless Jedi across generations. His deep connection to the Force and his ability to foresee the future were key elements of his role as a Master. Yoda’s wisdom is exemplified through his teachings, such as his famous sayings and his ability to offer profound insights into the nature of the Force. His role in the Council allowed him to influence major decisions and guide the Order through periods of conflict and peace. Yoda’s ability to maintain clarity and balance amidst turmoil demonstrated a level of wisdom and experience that justified his rank. **Their Role in the Jedi Council** Both Mace Windu and Yoda served on the Jedi Council, a position reserved for the most esteemed Jedi Masters. The Council’s role was to oversee the Order's policies, maintain peace, and guide the Jedi through the complex issues of the galaxy. Windu’s membership on the Council highlighted his ability to represent the Jedi Order's interests and to participate in high-level decisions affecting the galaxy. Yoda’s role on the Council was even more influential, as he often took the lead in Council meetings and acted as a mediator between the Jedi and the Republic. Their positions on the Council reflect their status as Masters who were trusted to uphold the values of the Jedi and to navigate the Order through the challenges of their era. **The Balance of the Force and Their Adherence to Jedi Principles** Mace Windu and Yoda’s adherence to the Jedi Code and their efforts to maintain balance in the Force are central to their qualifications as Jedi Masters. Windu’s commitment to the Jedi Code was evident in his stringent adherence to its principles and his readiness to confront challenges head-on, even when it meant making difficult decisions. Yoda’s dedication to the Code was reflected in his lifelong pursuit of knowledge and his efforts to teach and preserve the Jedi teachings. Both Masters faced internal and external conflicts with a focus on upholding justice and maintaining peace. Their actions demonstrated a deep understanding of the Force’s role in the galaxy and a commitment to the Jedi’s mission of defending the light side. **Their Legacy and Influence** The legacies of Mace Windu and Yoda extend beyond their lifetimes, marking them as Jedi Masters of exceptional caliber. Windu’s legacy is reflected in his combat techniques and his role as a protector of the Republic, even in the face of overwhelming odds. Yoda’s influence is seen in the training of future Jedi and his philosophical contributions to the Jedi teachings. Their legacies shape the narrative of the Jedi Order and serve as a testament to their status as Masters. Their enduring impact on the galaxy and the Jedi Order affirms their qualifications for the rank of Master, demonstrating that their contributions and examples continue to inspire future generations. **Conclusion** Mace Windu and Yoda’s ascension to the rank of Jedi Master was well-deserved, grounded in their exceptional skills, wisdom, and contributions to the Jedi Order. Windu’s combat prowess and leadership, Yoda’s profound wisdom and enduring mentorship, and their influential roles on the Jedi Council all highlight their qualifications. Their adherence to the Jedi Code and their lasting legacies further underscore their rightful place as Masters. Their characters embody the virtues of the Jedi Order and illustrate why they were held in such high regard by their peers and by the galaxy at large.
If Mace Windu is alive, I imagine he will be a broken shadow of his former self. He had his sword hand chopped off, lost his lightsaber, and he was electrocuted before being thrown out of a building and falling several stories down with nothing to grab onto with his remaining hand. If he somehow survived, I imagine Mace Windu would be physically and mentally broken due to this series of traumatic experiences. Also, his lightsaber style Vaapad brought him dangerously close to the dark side. What if his mind snapped from being betrayed and nearly dying and he slipped fully to the dark side? What if what happened to him in Revenge of the Sith was his breaking point? What do you think?
Ah yes Mace Windu one of my favorite characters like dude is SUPER powerful I think people sometimes forget that, like think about it he has Vaapad and mastered it Wich is EXTREMELY difficult hes literally the only one who can use it properly without falling to the dark side AND he also has a rare super powerful Force ability Shatterpoint and he has very strong force powers like dude Force crushed General grievous lungs and defeated palpatine one on one (I don't care what anyone says he 100 percent beat palpatine)
Palpatine: Master Windu. I take it General Grevious has been destroyed. I must say you're here sooner than expecte.... Mace: Enough is enough! I've had it with these motherf**kin sith in this mother**kin senate! Palpatine: I am the senate!!
That is more hypocrisy on Anakin about killing Dooku! The count was unarmed and no threat to Anakin life. Mace was fighting for his life with Palpatine. He tried multiple times to kill Wndu. Only foolish people believe Windu was wrong for wanting to Palpatine. Remember, Mace sense a plot to destroy the Jedi aka order 66 after sending Anakin to report to Palpatine. From that moment to fighting Palpatine in his office, Mace force sense was intuned with everything. I believe he was seeing the future with Palpatine as emperor and etc. When, Palpatine wouldn't stop trying to kill him, he understood, Palpatine was too dangerous to be left alive becauce he had control of courts, senate and etc. At that the moment, Mace knew what need to be done which was to kill Palpatine.
Man I love Mace Windu. He is my favorite Jedi from the Clone Wars era. I definitely think he was more hard on people than most but that doesn’t make him a bad guy. At the end of the day he would’ve killed Palps right there if it weren’t for Anakin and if people think that killing the master of the Sith was a bad thing or was against the way of the Jedi yall crazy. George Lucas purposely made Mace the exact opposite of Anakin and it is shown beautifully. I think Mace was blinded but his faith in the Republic rarher than having faith in the Force. But he wasnt only one to do this that is why the Jedi fell.
What about Ahsoka trial that only Anakin rescue her about not being the Killer. Then when that was done Mace said to Ahsoka the force works in mysteries ways, which that is trash and Ahsoka could of died by penalty by death from the military.
I use to have a love- hate relationship Mace Windu when it came to his attitude towards other people(Anakin especially) even though he is one of my favorite Jedi. But I realized he's more layered than that and had reasons for acting the way he does. Even if his attitude annoys me sometimes, I still appreciate and love the character. Ironically for the past few years, Ki-Adi Mundi has taken Mace's place as the worst jedi of the clone wars era for his behavior in regards to the Jedi teachings. Especially if you take his EU lore into account.
Windu was right the whole time about their beloved anakin this is the era of no accountability of one's own actions who every they like can't be wrong no matter what they do.
Windu is a man of principles and he knows the temptations of the Dark Side, but he still stood against the evils of the Galaxy and defend the people who relied on the Jedi Order.
"Anakin's a good person." No he's not! Anakin murdered an entire village, including the women and children! Yes, he went to save his mother, but then he straight up escalated the situation, something police and military are trained not to do! He was unfit for the position of sword warrior in what was supposed to be a non repressive democracy. They should have set him and his mother up with a well pay textile job and maybe a basic education.
@@dwbi16 What, the dark side the Jedi are told to shun? If it took him over that just further proves the so called chosen one who was supposed to destroy the cancerous dark side and heal the force was in fact a dangerous farce unfit to be a knight of the republic.
Anakin is fucking overrated as hell. Not saying he's a Terri or character, but people act like hes fucking perfect because "hes the chosen one" and all that shit. He's great.in terms of.power, but in terms of character, nope
Nah the phrase is still awesome, and the term is older than the show. So I personally wouldn’t have him change it, in my opinion. Even if the show sucks
the fans are harsh on mace. bc they followed anakin. relying on what he said after padma confronted him. the jedi can't save you, only my new powers can. he wanted power more than to save her. mace was in the right😊
Not quite, to a degree. Yes he has his faults and mistakes, but those mistakes showed the flaws in the Jedi order and their code. And why the dark times happened
Windu's inner darkness and the challenges he had to overcome due to it I think made him *very* wary of any darkness within others. Especially after his friend and fellow Form VII user fell to the Dark Side right under his nose
Windu has been one of my favorite characters for a long time. Windu, Plo Koon, and Qui Gon being my Top 3 favorite characters in the Star Wars prequels
You forget that politics are based off religion. So religion is politics and politics are religion. There rules that most be followed which is also known as Discipline or foundation. I believe anakin said that to windu to save palpatine for his need of him and nothing else. The light must defeat the dark so killing is apart of both sides just one focuses on not being lawless about it. The dark users are self absorbed and live in the past which destroys their future. Which why i believe make them hideous, just like the monster there are.
Yeah, i feel like a lot of people write windu off because he was just a dick to our boy Ani. Divulge in other shit besides the clone wars and go read some books. Mainly the shatter point novel, amazing read
Mace Windu could have treated Anakin better, but Skywalker shouldn't have been in the Jedi Order to begin with. It was sad he was a slave, it was good he was freed, free them all, but the boy was still dangerous. He needed therapy, not combat training and access to the energy field binding the galaxy together! It's Qui Gon's fault for making Obi Wan swear to train the menace with his dying breath.
Who stands with Anakin? Seriously from what I know he's one of the most hated characters in all of Star Wars. Me and most of my friends are Star Wars fans. I've never heard anyone say anything negative about Windu. He's one of our favorite characters. Anikin goes from whiny and emotional, to arrogant and careless, to downright evil. Seriously, how is anyone taking his side here?
I wouldn’t go so far as to call Mace a villain or a bad guy but I think he’s a bit misguided practically when it comes to Anakin. I think had he taken more time to interact and gotten to know Anakin things would be way different. That’s a common theme with “perfect Jedi” they all have the right mindset and intentions but they adhere to strictly to the Code that they ultimately become blind to the plights of themselves and especially others close to them when intervention or correction is absolutely necessary.
I do agree Windu is largely misunderstood chacter but he should at least be more kinder to Anakin as a child and served as well meaning stern understanding uncle figure. Anakin was someone who need a father, a brother, an uncle and a grandfather figure at the same time not just one them to help him be the best Jedi he could be. He only got older brother in Obi-wan while having the father figure in THE enemy and Yoda did at least have some grandfatherly moments with him but not enough while Windu in someway like the rest of the council at most very little to help part of Jedi Order.
People say Anakin need a father not a brother they are not internally corected he needed Qui-gon as the father, he also need Obi-wan as brother, but aside the original movie for the moment, why would the Force lead Qui-gon and Obi-wan to Anakin together why not just lead the master on his own? Qui-gon will teach Anakin how truily fallow the will of the Force while Obi-wan would do his best teach him to take a more grounded view of things.
Qui-gon would have been the best master for Anakin but his biggest problem was that he tursted the Force so much and lived in the moment he forgot to think on his own judgement in the long term reality. In way Obi-wan points this out when Darth Maul kill in their dual.
Anakin's actions in Episode II was why he was denied the rank of Master near the end of the Clone Wars? He led Padme from Naboo to Tatooine putting his mission and her in immediate danger? R2 had to save her in the Genosian droid factory? His attempt to rescue Kenobi on Geonosis was a direct disobedience of Mace Windu's order to stay on Tattoine.. this led to a failed rescue attempt as many Jedi died and were overwhelmed by the Droid armies and Grievous off screen
Jus so yall know i been waiting to see Windu get put on trial as a character for so long after hearing the arguments of fans that are coping don’t get me wrong Mace Windu is a really cool character undeniably but he was never really a likeable one in my eyes led alone relateable and i don’t think Windu being a Jedi Master to train Anakin would not be the best scenario they are literally opposites of one another they may not have been enemies but they sure as hell were rivals from start to finish
The idealistic conflict between Windu and Anakin thematically fits as a debate over the worth of the soul vs the worth of the whole. Where Anakin will value the individual good over the greater good, Windu values the greater good over the individual good. Even if Windu knew the details behind Anakin’s inner turmoil, he would have asserted that the loss of Padme is ultimately worth the survival of the Republic and the Jedi Order. Windu’s flaw is that he values the whole to a fault. If your emphasis on the greater good continually comes at the expense of each individual in need, eventually there will be no greater good left to serve.
People who hate Mace came up with this ridiculous notion that Mace was jealous of Anakin. This video is one of the few who show the respect he rightfully deserves. He's a flawed character but one who fought for good unlike Dooku and Vader.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Mace Windu's apprentice only fell to the dark side because she (if I'm not mistaken?) Wasn't strong enought to handle Vapaad?
Mace Windu: “The Jedi are keepers of the peace. Not warriors.” Palpatine: “I will not let this Republic that has for a 1,000 years be divided.” Goes on to discuss the why’s and how’s about starting a war and waging a war that didn’t need to be, of commandeering a clone army that was raised in secret under questionable circumstances, ignoring the ethics or how it contradicts the Jedi code, in order to launch a preemptive strike on a factory of a planet that lies outside of Republic jurisdiction where they are building a droid army in secret in case things breakdown into a war, which would be seen as an act of war and give the separatists reason to break from the Republic. And they do this despite learning more concerning issues about the clones and feeling the Darkside surrounding the Chancellor after learning that there might also be a Sith Lord within the Senate, that they are looking for,.. AND while knowing that a major war, a galaxy wide civil war would bring massive destruction, death and suffering across the galaxy. (Not to mention that the Chancellor seems to be confused about the history of the Republic, which has been around for 25,000 years, but the 1,000 year narrative plays into what a Sith views on it’s history.) Mace had every reason not to commit to war and to push for a diplomatic solution, and ignored that to go play general.
Most critiques of Mace is rooted in him being the main Jedi Master against Anakin's promotion to Master, yet few fail to realize Anakin's destiny wasn't changing and I'm sure through use of his vapad Shatterpoint capabilities he saw or felt this Anakin was always going to bring balance to the Force by ridding the many dogmatic Jedi whom dwarfed the Sith in influence at the time and (well pre-Disney) defeating Darth Sidious, whom expanded his Sith empire across the galaxy. Anakin likely would have defected from the Jedi like Revan and others or caused a split faction in the Jedi Order of those who rebelled against how dogmatic and even gluttonous the Jedi had become Mace not heeding Anakin's warning about Palpatine is a reasonable mistake most would have made because Palpatine's political and military reach already extended to all the known galaxy
I found a comment saying that Mace Windu is a black dad. A dad who is unshakable and unbendable to his responsibilities and to his duty, and wants the best for the younger generation, but will call out someone for being young and stupid.
I would say he’s an old school type. Strong, stern, and determined. Loving in a different way but the type of love that you appreciate more when you’re older or that person is no longer with you.
One thing I noticed about that duel was the fact that when Sidious is using his force lightning and trying to appeal to Anakin, it's the one and only time we hear Mace call him Anakin instead of just "Skywalker"
As the Jedi who is the most in touch with the dark side, it makes sense that he would hold Anakin up to unreasonably high standards. He understands the danger of training someone as powerful as Anakin, who constantly struggles with dark side tendencies.
There is a difference between holding someone to high standarts and holding them to impossible standarts, pronouncing them guilty until proven innocent and deliberately antagonizing a young child, while blaming him for reacting in a reasonable manner.
@@sasukehyuuga755 Mace definitely could have treated Anakin better, but I wouldn't say he went that far. Like they say in the video, Anakin was plenty rebellious himself, so the two just, unfortunately, couldn't vibe. Anakin had trouble dealing with attachments due to his dark side tendencies and late training. Mace had unreasonable standards because he understood the danger of training someone as powerful as Anakin. That's how I see it, anyway. They were just destined not to get along. Edit, spelling
@@Tuturial464 Yep, I don't disagree with that. All I'm saying is, I understand why Mace would have unreasonably high standards. Not saying that I agree with those standards, just that Mace's characterization and backstory tracks with why Mace would act in this way.
@@Ketooeythe problem is that have to state is how Mace conducted himself and was a follower to the Jedi Code instead of the force. Even Yoda and Obi Wan realized their mistakes albeit a little late. But somehow still make those same mistakes to a degree.
The council needed to ask themselves one question: Was it more dangerous to train Anakin or leave him untrained, with all his raw power, for the sith to find and train him instead?
If Qui Gon was alive, he would have left the Jedi Order to train Anakin. If the Jedi didn’t accept Qui Gon’s dying wish, Palpatine would have gotten Anakin much sooner.
There was no more desirable outcome with Anakin other than Windu immediately beheading Palpatine with no hesitation like Jango Fett. Eliminating Palapatine would have forced Anakin on an alternate path that wouldn’t have included becoming a Sith PERIOD. In fact Anakin may have even convinced the council to create space between themselves Nd the Republic to better serve the greater good. And do things like dismantles the Hut slave industry that almost ground Anakin into dust.
Windu gave Palpatine the chance to surrender. A Jedi in the Old Republic wouldn't have even hesitatated as long as Windu did and then followed through...
Yeah but they never would’ve had to explain killing the CHANCELLOR before
To his credit, he did win the fight...until anakin came over

@@joaquinperez4830or Palpetine was feigning for Anakin to turn
Two chances honestly, first time with the other Jedi. Second time after he disarmed Palpatine. It wasn’t until Palpatine went lightning crazy that Mace decided to finish him instead.
Mace Windu was not perfect by any means, but both his heart and mind were in the right place and this video explains that perfectly.
But he was wrong in many ways. Like how he handled Anakin and how he Jumpstart the way of handling Palpetine
I truly enjoyed this, Mace is my favorite Jedi and he has never been given due justice by the fandom
@@mortalitydoesstuff8965 oh I'm not saying Mace was wrong. I'm just pointing out the OP's incorrect to say Palpatine wasn't the legal head of state.
Yall do a really good job of giving space to each other in the discussion. Good podding!😊
May the force be with you
Windu had one failing.
*cough cough* Ahsoka *cough*
I mean he wasn’t wrong for being cautious about Anakin. But we never see him actually showing any belief that Anakin could become a great Jedi someday. You know, something a master on the high counsel should do for those lower ranking knights.
Chaotic Good 4 life!
@KenpachiX420 he wasn't a villian, but he wasn't seen as a good person with how he treated people like Boba and Anakin
Mace Windu is still alive!
I dont think he ultimately cared
Remember the look on his face when he swung that blade to kill sidious.
Palpatine was always 10 moves ahead
Mace's greatest mistake was that he was impatient.
When Anakin told him that Palpatine was a Sith Lord, Mace should have realized he was being baited. He pulled a few masters with him to immediately confront Palpatine.
Instead, he should have alerted the Jedi Council and then go deal with Palpatine, so the Jedi would be on guard if Mace failed.
On the other hand... he gave Palpatine multiple chances when he could've just ended it.
One could even say he panicked a little bit
Best Mace Windu video I have ever seen from any TH-cam channel. Many thumbs up! Grateful you brought out such important points from the character.

Mace wouldve saved the galaxxy if stupid Anakin didnt betray him at the last second
still waiting for the yoda vs vader analysis
In in this case, I believe that Miss Wu just shows tough love and believe me when I say you rather see him do the tough love and not master Yoda because whenever he gets mad, he even scarier than me Mace widu in fact in Gotham, penguin tempted gym to do the same thing to Azrael and someone had to push Anakin’s buttons otherwise we wouldn’t get dark Vader. God bless you and Jesus loves you.
not "Miss Wu"😭😭
Best way to have saved Anakin. Go back to tatoeen and either buy or free his mom when Anakin was a kid
Omg you don’t know how many times I’ve said this
There's a line in Attack of the Clones that sums up Mace's and Anakin's ideologies perfectly, and I'm referring to when Anakin says "If people can't be trusted to make the right choice, someone stronger should do it for them." Mace was never like that as a character in all rights he could of easily been able to follow that line of thinking, but ultimately he'd push people to make the right, moral decision and I want to say he did trust Anakin the look on his face when Anakin cuts his hand off that's not a look of anger, that's a look of confusion and bewilderment that can only really come from having trusted the person who just wronged you. But what do I know it's Star Wars maybe I'm over analyzing the scene.
I just got a t-shirt that says "if people can't be trusted with freedom, how can they be trusted with power?"
Him & the Council didn’t grant Annie the rank of master.
He wasn't ready for it yet to emotional
Every time they said no, Anakin got more hurt and bitter. ..
So then people say, “should’ve let him be master then he wouldn’t have fallen to the dark side!”
But that’s no different than saying “you should just have let your child get whatever they wanted at the store…then they wouldn’t have thrown the tantrum. It’s your fault for telling your kid no so many times and sticking to the principle that your kid is now falling out having a fit in this Target”
lol like make it make sense.

In the Star Wars universe, the title of Jedi Master is reserved for those who demonstrate exceptional skill, wisdom, and dedication to the Jedi Order.
**Mace Windu’s Exceptional Combat Skills and Leadership**
Mace Windu's rise to the rank of Jedi Master is deeply rooted in his extraordinary combat abilities and strategic acumen.
**Yoda’s Wisdom and Longevity**
Yoda’s ascendancy to Jedi Master was a natural progression from his unparalleled wisdom and longevity within the Jedi Order.
**Their Role in the Jedi Council**
Both Mace Windu and Yoda served on the Jedi Council, a position reserved for the most esteemed Jedi Masters.
**The Balance of the Force and Their Adherence to Jedi Principles**
Mace Windu and Yoda’s adherence to the Jedi Code and their efforts to maintain balance in the Force are central to their qualifications as Jedi Masters.
**Their Legacy and Influence**
The legacies of Mace Windu and Yoda extend beyond their lifetimes, marking them as Jedi Masters of exceptional caliber.
**Conclusion**
Mace Windu and Yoda’s ascension to the rank of Jedi Master was well-deserved, grounded in their exceptional skills, wisdom, and contributions to the Jedi Order.

Yes! Awesome video!
Love me some Mace. Such a great character.
And a flawed man. He did wrong
One of my favorite Jedi, I wish he was in the movies more, but I get it.
He's literally the Sith's Chosen One. Mace Windu is built different.
You had me in the SECOND half ngl
Ah yes Mace Windu one of my favorite characters like dude is SUPER powerful I think people sometimes forget that, like think about it he has Vaapad and mastered it Wich is EXTREMELY difficult hes literally the only one who can use it properly without falling to the dark side AND he also has a rare super powerful Force ability Shatterpoint and he has very strong force powers like dude Force crushed General grievous lungs and defeated palpatine one on one (I don't care what anyone says he 100 percent beat palpatine)
Mace not bringing Anakin to arrest Palpatine ends up being his achilles heel.
Palpatine: Master Windu. I take it General Grevious has been destroyed. I must say you're here sooner than expecte....
Mace: Enough is enough! I've had it with these motherf**kin sith in this mother**kin senate!
Palpatine: I am the senate!!
That pat on the back from Mace was coming.
What you say is true, and you have earned my trust.
What about Ahsoka trial that only Anakin rescue her about not being the Killer. Then when that was done Mace said to Ahsoka the force works in mysteries ways, which that is trash and Ahsoka could of died by penalty by death from the military.

Excellent debate. I'm for Mace all the way. Yes, he will be brought back and his role while brief will be integral somehow...
Very underrated character who gets too much hate from fans.
Hate? Who hates on him?
I use to have a love- hate relationship Mace Windu when it came to his attitude towards other people(Anakin especially) even though he is one of my favorite Jedi. But I realized he's more layered than that and had reasons for acting the way he does. Even if his attitude annoys me sometimes, I still appreciate and love the character.
Ironically for the past few years, Ki-Adi Mundi has taken Mace's place as the worst jedi of the clone wars era for his behavior in regards to the Jedi teachings. Especially if you take his EU lore into account.

Not quite, to a degree. Yes he has his faults and mistakes, but those mistakes showed the flaws in the Jedi order and their code. And why the dark times happened
Mace Windu LIVES!
Which why i believe make them hideous, just like the monster there are.
he did plenty wrong in overestimating his strength

Mace Windu could have treated Anakin better, but Skywalker shouldn't have been in the Jedi Order to begin with. It was sad he was a slave, it was good he was freed, free them all, but the boy was still dangerous. He needed therapy, not combat training and access to the energy field binding the galaxy together!
If you want to critique Mace for his desire to eliminate palatine then I demand you convict and imprison Anakin for what he did to Count Dooku
What about the murder of the Tuskens men? And Padme's affair? Those things are seriously against the Jedi Code
Thank you for this video, all the hate that Windu get is truly sad. He is still my favorite jedi with Luke coming in second 😅.
I really agree with you on that
Jus so yall know i been waiting to see Windu get put on trial as a character for so long after hearing the arguments of fans that are coping don’t get me wrong Mace Windu is a really cool character undeniably but he was never really a likeable one in my eyes led alone relateable and i don’t think Windu being a Jedi Master to train Anakin would not be the best scenario they are literally opposites of one another they may not have been enemies but they sure as hell were rivals from start to finish
In part but it was also because of what she experience on Harun Khal. The jungle planet broke her
@@BucketThinkTank14657Nerd Oh ok, thanks for the info. 💯✊🏾
Mace Windu:
“The Jedi are keepers of the peace. Not warriors.”
Palpatine:
“I will not let this Republic that has for a 1,000 years be divided.”
Goes on to discuss the why’s and how’s about starting a war and waging a war that didn’t need to be, of commandeering a clone army that was raised in secret under questionable circumstances, ignoring the ethics or how it contradicts the Jedi code, in order to launch a preemptive strike on a factory of a planet that lies outside of Republic jurisdiction where they are building a droid army in secret in case things breakdown into a war, which would be seen as an act of war and give the separatists reason to break from the Republic. (Not to mention that the Chancellor seems to be confused about the history of the Republic, which has been around for 25,000 years, but the 1,000 year narrative plays into what a Sith views on it’s history.)
Mace had every reason not to commit to war and to push for a diplomatic solution, and ignored that to go play general.
Really enjoyable conversation, I probably won't give him the chance to surrender if I was in mace's shoe's 👍
What a great look at a Mace. I do agree he was misunderstood
I'm taking refuge from the acolyte thank God we still have good content of Star wars being pumped out...life saver
Most critiques of Mace is rooted in him being the main Jedi Master against Anakin's promotion to Master, yet few fail to realize Anakin's destiny wasn't changing and I'm sure through use of his vapad Shatterpoint capabilities he saw or felt this
Anakin was always going to bring balance to the Force by ridding the many dogmatic Jedi whom dwarfed the Sith in influence at the time and (well pre-Disney) defeating Darth Sidious, whom expanded his Sith empire across the galaxy. Anakin likely would have defected from the Jedi like Revan and others or caused a split faction in the Jedi Order of those who rebelled against how dogmatic and even gluttonous the Jedi had become
Mace not heeding Anakin's warning about Palpatine is a reasonable mistake most would have made because Palpatine's political and military reach already extended to all the known galaxy
He listened to Anakin when it counted the most.
Windu was always right. Everything he says becomes true on the long run.
Those Star Wars theories make me a better men.
One thing I noticed about that duel was the fact that when Sidious is using his force lightning and trying to appeal to Anakin, it's the one and only time we hear Mace call him Anakin instead of just "Skywalker"
Gungan lifes matter
7:43 When did ballaba turn to the dark side? Because I thought she was a Jedi master by the time of order 66
In the novel Shatterpoint she fell but it was pre-TCW/Rebels. Rebels later retconned so she was Kanan’s master
@Ketooey but they didn't treat him fairly and didn't adjust his trainings
@@Vietmac1993 maybe
There was no more desirable outcome with Anakin other than Windu immediately beheading Palpatine with no hesitation like Jango Fett. Eliminating Palapatine would have forced Anakin on an alternate path that wouldn’t have included becoming a Sith PERIOD.
In fact Anakin may have even convinced the council to create space between themselves Nd the Republic to better serve the greater good. And do things like dismantles the Hut slave industry that almost ground Anakin into dust.
I feel jango fet did nothing wrong. Jest a simple man trying to make his way through the galaxy
