  • Today, I take you through my naturally curly hair journey + transformation and share with you what it was really like growing up with big curly hair by showing my curly hair transformation throughout the years.
Growing up as a girl with big, frizzy, curly hair was definitely not easy. It has been a lifelong natural journey, and now I have the experience and knowledge to share with all of you.
I hope this video inspires you to start or continue your journey, reminds you to put down the hot tools and gives you some encouragement to embrace your curls! (and maybe give you a good laugh too)
    And I’ll just leave this here;
"Why fit in when you were born to stand out" -Dr. Suess ❤️
    Thank you guys for watching!!

Alright, well first I'd like to say your videos give me life LOL. Your humour definitely makes your videos enjoyable to watch and your detail and explanation of things are SUPER helpful. So yea, LOVE THAT! (just as everyone else who commented can agree). My hair is 2c/3a curl, or whatever it decides to be, you know mind of its own. I've had my share of bad haircuts, like just straight chopping it without any knowledge on curly hair, which led me to constantly where my hair up or slicked back with that bed head gel LOL (i can relate) or dippity do da day. Never liked to cut my hair so for a while my hair was longg with zero volume, but like you i got super annoyed with it. After watching many videos/tutorials/etc etc etc..I started to finally embrace the curl with all it had to offer. Long story short, I cut it much shorter than I would've ever wanted to in the past. Now I am on the hunt for some GOOD natural product. I've tried so much shit it's not even funny, there was a few that stuck around but I definitely think I can do better. Never knew aveda even had a curly line until I found you, SO THANK YOU, now I'm just dying to try it so my curls can be on pointttt like yours *hair flip*. Also, I think I need to visit you for a haircut. ANYWAYS. This ended up being way longer than planned. Love your work, can't wait for more. THANK YOU. Keep killing the curl game girrrrl.

Thank you Selina for taking the time to write this comment!! I love reading comments like these!! It’s truly amazing to look back at the mistakes we have made during our hair journeys!! Thankfully now we have the resources and experience to know better LOL but we still learn each and everyday. If you end up not wining the giveaway and are looking for a new natural product to try I would definitely give Aveda’s Be Curly line a look. I have been using their products for 2 years now and I love them. Thanks again for your comment and see you tomorrow with a new video 😘😝❤️

I've latched on to Fructis Curl Butter as my go to product. Just thought I would share. I can not stand hair products and this is the only one I use after shampoo and conditioner. It extends the drying process, but at least the curls look ok. I wear my curls in a short bob.

“Back when my mom used to brush my hair dry...” lolol sooo relatable. Only, my older sister was given hair duty for the only curly haired child in the family...me. I get my curly hair from my dad, and he cuts his short, so you cant even tell it's curly. My older sister kind of has wavy/frizzy hair, but has never really tried to care for it, so is also inexperienced in this relm. My hair used to be strait, then it went wavy, now it's curly, and I've got NO idea how to care for it, and it's a frizzy, dead mess lol. It's really annoying tho

I just came across your vlog and OH MY WORD you’re awesome. My hair was super straight when I was a kid. When I hit puberty life changed and so did my hair. I had no clue what was going on. It was the late 70s early 80s so curly hair products were few and far between. Not even my, who was a cosmetologist, knew what to do with my mane. So I decided I needed to chop it and do the white girl mullet (not a pretty look). Of course I let that grow out but I still didn’t know what I was dealing with. In my mid-20s I decided to embrace my mane and looked for every the moisturized. Leave in conditioner was my friend. Now in my 50s there are all these wonderful curly girl products and vlogs, like yours, to help a gal along. I’m still very youthful looking so I love rocking my curls and continue to learn the best way to tame the mane. Love you pr vlogs. Keep up the great work. 💕

So inspiring, oh my being a kid in the 90s with curly hair was such a real struggle. Living a hair lie, avoiding water, and trying to hide my curls from the world was my life. Wish I could say it stoped young however Until this week, I was still straightening my hair everyday. I found you, it's been three hard but freeing days. You inspire me so much, your beautiful curls inspire me. I am going to try to learn as much as I can and I hope to come out in the end of this curly journey finally happy in my own HAIRS!

Oh my goodness, girl, I love you. I've been on a bit of a curl trip for about two years now. When I was in highschool I was fed up with my awful hair, no one in my family has curls and my hair was so damaged from heat treatments because I just could not wear it naturally with all the bullshit my parents and I put it through. So I just got a buzz cut. After simmering with the regret of that decision (short hair does not flatter my face) I stopped caring altogether, but low and behold as my hair grew out, natural, and virgin, my twirly locks looked bomb as fuck and I learned to embrace my curls. Since then I've been slowly growing it out more and more and blindly feeling my way through how to best take care of it. Your channel is a life changer, it's taking my curls from a solid eight to a ten, and I will forever be grateful. I'm on a curly girl journey now to realize the long princess hair I've always wanted, and it's coming along faster than ever thanks to you. Keep making content,
    Sincerely,
    A Formerly Frizzy Curly Girl

Thank you for sharing your journey in this video. I can totally relate. I was also bald until age 3, so my mom dressed me in pink and people still thought I was a boy. When my hair got longer we didn't know what to do so my mom also brushed my hair dry each morning (ouch!) and pulled it into a ponytail. Then in high school, college, and after college, I was all about flat-ironing/blowing out my hair as straight as possible because I thought it looked better. Finally last fall I decided enough was enough because my hair was starting to fall out from all the damage. I'm still transitioning but already have seen significant improvement after a couple cuts/trims and following advice such as yours about products and techniques. Now my hair is back to a 3a/3b pattern and is thickening up again. Your videos are so helpful. I can't believe how long I've lived with curly hair while having no clue how to care for it properly!!!!

I love my mom to death, but she has had straight hair her whole life, and didn't knew what to do with my head...so she did, what she normally did to her hair (brush dry, and used a round brush to try and get it tamed)
For so many years I just thought I had fluffy and frizzy hair (you know, the dreaded pyramid hair)...I'm 26, and just learning what to do with my hair, and truth be told, my hair's loving me every time more and more

Its crazy how evertones hair journey is different! I was also a bald baby lol until I was about two as well but my hair came out straight and by the time I was three, girl, there was no turning back,it was curly! It was a shock for me too and when I hit my teens is when I started straightening it and that was ny everyday routine...about 5 years ago, I made a commitment to myself to enter my curl journey and have been taking care of my hair and simply embracing it, and essentially who I am, an dits been amazing-my hair is healthy! Then this year I stumbled upon your channel a few months ago and I have to say thank you! You have been such a great person to learn everything hair from and simply a fresh of breath air to watch. I have grown and learned more about hair since watching you. Thank you for sharing your curly hair journey and for encouraging us to embrace our curls. I've always loved my curls. My curlies sprouted when I was around a year old. My hair has been straighted maybe 3 times in my life. Eh I'd rather rock the curls! My mom would spray no more tangles from Johnson and Johnson in my hair, brush it, and call it a day. I had beautiful ringlets! 6th grade came and my hair got frizzy. So so frizzy. I started using product in 7th grade. I've been watching so many videos and looking for tips on how to get the best from my curls. I'm hooked on your videos! I love your personality and your gorgeous hair! ♥️

This is totally relatable for me! I am just now really diving into this curly hair thing. Ive never know. What to do with my curls and neither did my mom! But now that I have my own daughter (13 months) I want to be able to have my own healthy curls and show her how to as well if she has curly hair as well. She is still “bald” kind of but what hair she does have if let alone and not brushed starts to curl up! So glad I found your channel!!

I can relate so hard to the terrible brushing and trying to keep my curly hair flat. It was only after high school that I really started to let my natural curls out and fell in love with them. I'm still learning and your videos are an amazing help to learning and understanding (and for laughing). Thank you Mell

It has taken me 50 years to find you. My mum also dry brushed my hair till my scalp bled. Not to mention the headaches from my heavy hair. It’s been short, long and for years I had a terrible short on top long at the back bowl style cut. I’ve tried all the so called experts, given away a fortune trying to find the right products but never did until I found your you tube channel. Very humorous you make my day. You have made such a difference to my life. I thank you for your work for the curly girls. Everywhere I go, I’m now complimented on my hair. You gave me hope to keep the search on finding the right product. Mine is “Eleven” from Australia I think and Olaplex. It’s amazing. I no longer wash every day to escape the friz just once every week or so.
My problem is that I’m now older and not sure I should keep my hair so long.

I am so glad I stumbled upon your TH-cam channel. First off I love your sense of humor and you have given me courage to put my story out there to also help other curly haired beauties like you and I. I unfortunately was like you and was born bald, then blonde curls came but my parents did the unthinkable...they always cut my hair off at my chin and blew my hair dry and used a brush to straighten it. In fact my dad always chopped off my hair and kept it chin length because they didn’t know how to deal with the curl and frizz. In fact he dragged me kicking, screaming and crying after I had managed to grow my hair out past my shoulders (all one length which was horrible and I dried it straight cause it was the only thing my mom had shown me how to do (which made it frizzy and brittle) and cut it in short half inch layers from my forehead to my chin. I didn’t know I had naturally curly hair until I went on a band trip without my parents to Florida and had just showered and gotten ready for a concert and was getting all sorts of compliments and comments on it to the sort of “hey I like your perm” which was all the rage and I had wanted curly hair like spirals for ages. I looked at them all confused and said “ummmm first off my mom would never let me get a perm and my hair is straight so what are y’all smoking” and then I walked past a mirror and looked at my chin length hair in shock. It was ringlets. I had no idea what had caused my hair to spring up into curls but it was a head full. I figured out later it was the humidity. Since then I have been on my own natural hair journey and have been frustrated to the point of screaming to finally asking every person I saw with curls how they did it. I stockpiled tons of useful info from the age of 17 forward like diffusers and curl cream, mousse, gel, and leave in conditioner and started to grow my hair out. Now my hair is a mixture of ringlets and curls like your sisters is. And it’s finally long. I stopped washing it daily I would say when I was in my mid twenties cause I learned that I was drying it out too much. That helped a lot and it became healthy and shiny curls but getting the right cut and style was next on my list. I learned layers were good. And my hair went from blonde to dark like you but instead of being brunette I became a mousy reddish blonde on top of my head and auburn underneath. I helped it transition cause I was two toned for a while but finally went a full light auburn and it’s stayed that way except it’s now getting a few silvers and that mousy reddish blonde on top in the summer. But now it gets so tangled underneath like yours does. I liked your videos on how to wash, condition, use the right products and de tangle and so forth. I have been asked how I diffuse and when I watched your video I learned I was doing most things right but the scrunching and bouncing while drying with a diffuser was where I was wrong as well as doing it from the roots up. But here’s where I think I saved a lot of my curls from looking entirely bad which had gotten me compliments but also makes my styling and drying times so long ...I keep wetting the ends on my hair until the roots are dry. So I’m going to try your method of product application and also drying from the roots and see if that shortens my drying time (I know it will) and also keeps my hair from frizzing on like day 2 after washing it. Anyway, a huge fan already and can’t wait to see more. Plus I love the bloopers and the product links. How do you get paid to endorse products? I had numerous ones I would love to promote for a help in the financial area but also because they are good products. Any tips on keeping my hair from frizzing after I braid it while it’s wet and let it dry? My hair frizzes when I undo it but I want the curl I see straight or wavy haired girls get when they braid while wet and let dry and undo it for curls.

growing up i always had tight 3b hair. it not only was a tight curl pattern but it was extremely frizzy and dry because my parents had no idea how to care for my hair. it wasnt just my parents either, my whole family NEVER knew how to care for my hair. no one in my family had hair like mine. i am 20 years old today and let me tell you that i’ve been through the brushing your hair dry phase, heat damage phase, and just simply the phase of absolutely hating my hair because it wasn’t pin straight and long like every other girl in schools was. i did not know how to properly care for my hair until i was 17 years old ... crazy right? i went through my whole life and was never taught or shown anything to help me. let me just say though, discovering the curly hair world on youtube and actually being able to go to a store and see all these curl products is amazing. i’m so happy I invested my time into loving my hair because today, i wouldn’t trade my 3a/3b curls for the world 🤎

OMG...I went through the same thing except my mom’s solution was to shave my hair! And I was called “Puddle Head” in school. I started hating my hair. I did everything to get rid of it from relaxing to Japanese hair straightning and I still have curly hair except I have different pattern of curls.
I just discovered your videos last week and tried it. Wow! THANK YOU! You are amazing and I wished I saw your videos sooner before I could hate/damage my hair. THANK YOU and now love my curls!!! Muah!!!💚💛💜💙

I know this was a million years ago (or one. It was one.😂), but i have started to embrace my curly hair... I wore it curly all the time when i was younger and it was BEAUTIFUL. ltierally looked the exact same as yours as a kid, and the exact same way yours looks now. My mom never let me straighten it. Then i went to collage, and i straightened it. That’s as 14 years ago. I have spent the majority of the last 14 years straightening and coloring my naturally curly hair (I colored it brunette though... so at least thats some small consolation to the damage lol). My hair is super thin and super fine and the pics of you after you chopped your hair off are GORGEOUS. I LOVE IT. I have been using Curlsmith and trying to get my hair back beautiful again the last 3-4 days and watching this video desperately made me want to keep trying. I honestly felt like giving up this afternoon. But i know theres damage and i know if i just chill out and give it time to heal, I’ll be good. I’m 32 and STILL trying to embrace my natural curls! Thank you so much for inspiring me! Off to watch more of your videos!
