    10K cheaper than the MSRP Type R is only part of the story. It is really difficult to even find a Type R in my region, and I'm hearing about outrageous mark-ups at the stealerships. On the other hand, my closest Hyundai dealer had 3-4 of these on the lot, and was showing pretty close to MSRP. One color was about 1K more for some reason (everything else looked similarly equipped.) Great that both these cars exist.

    • @Mike.Macmyazka
      @Mike.Macmyazka ปีที่แล้ว +6

      They previously didn't charge extra for colors on Elantra (any trim), but some colors are now an extra charge...both white and performance blue for 23 are $400 more so that's possibly why one was more.

      I don’t know where you are at. But my local Hyundai dealership had a couple of these and I was really interested in buying one but after a test drive and about to work on buying it they told me there was a 10,000$ “market adjustment” and they had it listed everywhere online at the msrp price.

    I’m a Volkswagen fanboy, first car was a 1.4t Jetta, currently own a 1.8t 2015 Jetta. I’m looking to get a brand new car either spring, or beginning of summer in 2024 (currently going through breakup and transitioning to owning the apartment on my own so need to sort out finances) and this car is that car. I was torn between the GLI, and the golf R. For literally close to $10,000 less than its competitors, you get a better sounding, more features, crazy beautiful build quality, beautiful infotainment system and gauge cluster, the illuminated N’s in the seats is just wild, and this car is just awesome all around.

    Haven’t had the luxury of driving any type R but I can just imagine how great they are. I ended up purchasing a 2023 elantra N dct due to budget and the option of an automatic(I love dual clutches). I agree the type R is ahead in a few categories but I think saving 10k and then putting that money into the elantra N will put it right up there with the FL5. Surprisingly your biggest issue is my favorite thing about the car, the steering weight is so nice.

    • @xXYannuschXx
      @xXYannuschXx ปีที่แล้ว

      The best thing is, the heaviness doesnt feel artificial. There isnt that much feedback from the road, but the weight gives you a really good feel how much grip you still got. In a lot of other cars (especially VAGs) the heaviness often just feels dampened and doesnt give you any feel for the grip level.

    Can’t believe this is your first time getting your hands on an EN! I’m glad you finally got to experience one, especially the DCT, since like you said, it’s almost not fair to compare any other manual to a Honda CTR manual. I’ve had my 22 Elantra N DCT for 8 months and 13k miles. It’s been amazing. I downsized to 18” wheels with DWS06+ tires and installed a $40 engine bushing and with just those changes I ran a 12.9 @ 110mph 1/4 mile. The car is an absolute beast for $35,000. And you nailed it on the head when you said it evokes feelings of the Dodge Neon SRT4. I test drove one of those when they first came out. I was a poor college kid and could swing the gasp almost $25,000 asking price ha ha. But I loved the sensations that thing had, and as soon as I got in the EN I instantly time traveled back to that test drive and thought wow, this is just a more modern, grown up version of that car, which is a great thing. As far as the steering goes, yes, it’s heavy but you can customize it in the custom N settings, which I turn down to normal as well as the suspension, so you get the burbles and pops but smooth ride and easy steering. As always, love your POV drives and commentary!

    You haven't even felt the high boost setting in Elantra where you drive it for 10 mins going 65 and it gives you more boost, and that makes this even faster. It's in the manual booklet of the car, you can read it, it's called octane learning. Great video brother! Enjoyed it and was looking forward for you to drive this one! And I'm not upset that you didn't know about the Octane learning, I understand that its not your car, I'm just saying, if you think it's quick with 15psi, you haven't felt it with more boost after the car recognises that you're using high octane fuel!! Great video!!

      @@TedwardDrives by default the car does 15psi, what hes talking about with octane learning is after you drive it for a while it will sense you're using higher fuel albeit 93+ and it may give you 16+ psi people have seen 19-20psi that will give you more than the 276hp on paper spec... the NGS button is totally different in which it will give you +10hp for a short amount of time or rather an insta sport+ to give you passing power then back to your eco/normal mode if you use it for that, there is a cool down for it so you can use it again later and when temps are lower, once you tune it and such it does become kinda useless button. One thing to add is under N Custom you can dial down steering and suspension if you dont want it as stiff yet still responsive along with less bouncing in your seat.

If the Type R is a 10/10 driving experience, then I'd consider the N series a 9-9.5. They're super duper fun to drive, and I've yet to meet someone who has regretted their purchases of the cars, also if you've a Veloster, they are excellent conversation pieces since they're pretty unique in their own sense.

    One of my favorite cost cuts in this car is that they didn't even include a 60/40 split folding rear seat. The backrest for all three seats folds down at once, so all the rear seats cannot be used if you need to haul a long item. Of course, you've got the bracing to reckon with anyway, but it's still a funny detail to me

    The comment about the brakes was a bit of a miss. Realistically, it doesn't matter that much if you have brembo 20 piston brakes or simple 1 piston brakes, both are going to be able to provide enough force to lock up the tires and engage abs.
    The difference is mainly that the type r comes with significantly wider tires. Not that brakes aren't important, but "better" brakes will be able to manage heat better, not necessarily make you brake harder. The most important part about braking is how traction limited you are with your tires. With wider tires, the type r just has more grip to work with.
    In fact, the Elantra N actually comes with bigger brake rotors than the type r, with brake ducts and plenty of engineering to make their brake system track capable. The car isn't braking worse because Hyundai put less work into their brakes, even if their brakes were worse it wouldn't matter because the tires are ultimately the "bottleneck".
    I would imagine Hondas tuning of the break pedal to be better though honestly
