One of the best written stories ever. This American fan , though late to the party, looked forward to Britcoms on my public TV station. Excellent story , characters and that British humor are very much missed. Bravo.

At 79, this remains one of my favorite tv shows of all time! Every member of the cast made their part come alive and, being someone who lost a dear one to war 55 years ago, this was a lovely fantasy with a very happy ending. Bless all the cast, on both sides of the Veil, and everyone who was involved with the production❣️
Top notch in every way. I watched this on my PBS Ch so much that I was learning all of their lines, I could almost have been a stand in. I always liked BBC comedies way more than stateside shows...they made me laugh without insulting my intelligence.
As Time Goes By is my very favorite British show. I have all the DVDs and watch them frequently. Every once in a while, something will happen my husband and I will look at each other and one of us will say "My life in Kenya?"
Another great British Comedy.Judy Dench is wonderful in her role as is all the cast.Judy Dench has played some wonderful roles in the movies.She was so good in her portrail of Queen Victoria.

OMG, it was over for me when Lionel told Alistair that he was retired and he was going to do nothing and do it very slowly. I use that line all the time now. That and "Rock On."🤣🤣
I absolutely loved the character interactions between Jean and Lionel. For me that WAS the entire program. It was outstanding in script and acting as well.

I liked how in this show, the characters were so sensitive of each other's feelings without compromising comedy effect. American comedy characters seem to get their laugh at the expense of each other.
I love this show! I don’t know how many times I have watched it now but if I can’t find anything decent to watch on tv I always go back to watching this again…. ☺️. I’ve looked for Butterflies but have yet to find it, I used to love that show too. 🙏🏻
A superlative production with extremely talented actors.Delightful story of human frailties well interspersed. Emotions very well observed and so natural in their portrayal....par excellence!
First saw this amazing series on Britbox. I was hooked and watched the whole series one episode every night. Was disappointed when it went off that service but I bought the DVD's and am enjoying yet again. Acting was first-rate from everyone. Seeing Judi Dench in her first major role was a revelation and Geoffrey Palmer (R.I.P) was so great an actor in his understated way he just had to look at the camera and do nothing else to make an impression. This was a laid back quiet series with no violence that anyone could watch - the type of series that no one makes anymore. Hopefully it attracted younger viewers as well as more mature ones, shall I say. Thanks for the wonderful video - going straight my viewing history and staying there.
First major role? She's been acting since her teens, predominantly in the theatre with numerous films to her credit now too. This is her 2nd sit-com, the 1st being A Fine Romance, with her real-life husband Michael Williams (in the 1980s I think). Agreed though, loved the entire series.
This show was my introduction to BritComs (as they're known here in the U.S. of A.) and I still watch the reruns when I can. I've become a BritCom addict and it's spilled over to the mysteries as well. The writing is so far above almost all of what is produced here, and the acting...well, it's in another class altogether. Thank you, ATGB, for all you've done for me.
Geoffrey Palmer was a great actor. I have seen him as a gangster, a money launderer for the IRA and he was also in Death Of An Expert Witness an Adam Dalgliesh Murder story. Not just a comedy actor as someone once said!
I absolutely adore this show. The characters are so well written, and so well acted. It seems like we are watching real people in real situations, not a t.v. show at all. The characters are all so warm and lovable, and full of human foibles. I especially love Jean and Lionel, as they find their way back to each other after so many years. Rocky Hardcastle (the late, wonderful Frank Middlemass) has such a zest for life, and a sweet twinkle in his eye. Dame Judi Dench is a universal treasure, and Geoffrey Palmer was a wonderful, understated actor. This show was utterly charming, and so very engaging, from the first episode to the finale. A true joy to watch.
In the episode where the American film crew are at Rocky’s house, one of the crew looks at Mrs Bale and says, “That face....it’s so Plantagenet “. A bit of foreshadowing there as Janet Henfrey played Margaret Pole, Countess of Salisbury in Wolf Hall (2015)

These programmes were produced at a time when comedy, drama etc was at its best. Unlike today when they are soooo boring.
