Finally, someone who can explain the issue without a bunch of craziness and repeating themselves over and over to make a ten minute video into a twenty minute video. THANK YOU
Exact lesson I was searching for. Someone recently advised me, one can never have enough strong grip, and since then I've been pulling my iron shots. I realize after this video, my problem was due club face being too closed due to overly strong grip. Thank you.
An overly strong grip is nothing but a temporary bandaid. Get a lesson from a good coach and work on the proper fundamentals and you will have a lifetime of golf enjoyment.
❤❤❤❤ Thank you, Thank you Thank you!!! When I saw your video, I immediately ran to the driving range and implemented it. Straight as an arrow!!!! Yes!!! Greens in regulation here I come!
If you are pulling shots it’s because you are delivering your power at the ball instead of at the target. Focus on swinging to the target not at the ball.
Thank You, I mainly pull a shot on par 3’s and approach shots. I think i need to hit this ball 80% or i need to hit it 100% etc and end up thinking i need to deliver the power to the ball.
Hardest thing for me to do. Have any suggestions for this? I’ve heard intermediate target but then I tend to swing down on the ball if I do that because I’m focused on that then.
Thank you. I've been moving the ball around. Trying many things. I'm definitely a "puller" of the ball. Damn they feel good, fly great, but left of everything good.
Simple & incredible at the same time. I love the fact that he spends a lot of time on the problem instead of just jumping to the solution. It really helps to drill in the “Problem” clearly so we can conscientiously try and avoid it!! Nicely done…
This was a fantastic lesson. I tried the suggestion moving the ball inside my stance a little while also simultaneously squaring my lead foot and opening up my right foot. IT WORKED! Certainly more practice is needed, but this adjustment was a revelation!
There's a lot to think about here, but after going through it a couple of times, I realized my issue with the pull was related closing the face too much. I have a tendency to be too hands-y and that's caused my body not to keep up. I swing from the inside. Great lesson.
Makes sense. I've been having problems with pulling the ball to the left, and since I tend to fade the driver and slice on occasion I'm pretty sure now that it's a path problem. I'll now have something to work with on my next trip to the range. Thanks, Hank!
I have ben struggling with a big out to in (over the top) club path since I started. I will try moving my feet this way at setup to encourage a more neutral or in to out path. Good instruction.
There's a reason Hank Haney is considered one of the best teacher's in golf, and this is a perfect example of why that is. I'm a "type 2 puller" (closed face) of the ball, and this has done wonders for me.
Brilliantly explained. I couldn't work out why my driver fades to the right but my iron shots pull to the left. Will definitely be working on not coming over the top now
This is a great video. I assumed I was swinging over the top, but couldn’t understand why. Turns out I was shutting the face! I put the ball further back in my stance as Hank suggested and goodbye pull! Thank you.
Good stuff. The 2 corrections are spot on what I would use to properly hit a draw (first one) and cut (2nd one). I've been hitting all very tight cut shots and mid to short irons have been great. With my new driver I'm getting the pull with a hook tail and sometimes creeping into tee shots with fairway woods. After a lesson I had been hitting some monster push draws on the monitor but trying to replicate in real situation has resulted in the big pulls off the golf course.
That is great advice moving that left front foot Moore Street I have a tendency to put my foot slightly open which allows my hips to open great point thank you
Great lesson. I have both of these problems depending on my fatigue and flexibility (I'm not as young as I used to be). Generally, on the front 9 when I'm fresh, I'm swinging from the inside with a closed club face, and on the back 9 I'm swinging outside-in. I'm aware of this and try to adjust my swing as needed. This is one aspect of golf that is much like life: making adjustments along to way to better play the game.
@@douglasmcintyre3297 I don’t think he’s using two swings on purpose. I have a similar problem after herniating my L4 and L5 years ago. My back starts to get really tense throughout the round and by the end, I’m just hoping to be able to finish. In the beginning, I’m very aware of my grip, stance, takeaway, etc., but by the 13th or 14th hole, I start forgetting parts of my routine as my nagging back starts getting more of my attention and I revert back to bad habits or what many would consider a more “natural” swing.
The best explanation on youtube. Nowadays, you can cheat and use trackman and it will tell you exactly what your 1)path and 2) clubface are doing at impact. Great video.
Great video, I took a lot of these tips and it helped. Recorded my swing and it helps when you see it. However my miss is still to the left. Most times draw center but the miss is a duck hook. I put some lead tape on the toe of the club and now the misses aren't as bad. Really worked.
Too bad Hank got the shaft and was removed from the Golf Channel, Sirius Radio for telling the truth about the LPGA. None of the phonies on the Golf Channel stuck up for him. They were too busy hiding and covering their own @@@@@.
I can't remember any golf video that has provided as much useful information as this one. Absolutely fantastic. I pull the ball left and I think it is because of the club path issue. I'm not 100% sure but at least now I know what to think about and look for.
Thank you so much -- I had the dreaded "can I give you some pointers" golfer come over to me at the range and try to correct my entire swing because I was pulling shots. It was embarrassing and very frustrating. I did everything he was telling me to no avail and it took me a bit to shake off what he had taught me. This video was incredibly eye opening as I realize now that its totally a club face issue! Once again - thank you
Haha those guys🤦♂️🤦♂️ theyre usually cool and I don't mind em if they give me a pointer or 2 and leave me alone....but it gets weird when they keep watching you throughout the whole session and really try to coach you🤣🤣
I shot an 85 today my best round using the club face tip with the left foot turned out. My iron shots were way straighter going from a pull draw to straight what a game changer
Another reason you may be starting the ball left is because your ball positioning is too far forward, which can cause your club face to be closed at impact. This was happening to me so I moved the ball 1-3 inches back in my stance and now I’m starting the ball on the right line because the club face is square at impact.
I feel like I just found my new “closed face duck hook” community page. We all feel each other’s pain 😣 I am using a beginners set of offset upright irons. I go for an iron fitting tomorrow. Fingers crossed 🤞 🏌️♂️ My driver bombs straight but boy do I hate seeing my irons all hook left.
Surely for a straight pull it's path and club face by the same amount? If your path is 8° left but your face is at target you'll start left and fade it back, no? When he said about people who slice a driver but pull short irons it could easily be down to poor strikes with the driver (more out of the heel)
As a new golfer having pulling problems I sometimes Slice and sometimes hits Draws w/ driver, while pulling a lot with my irons, so that is my question, isnt it both issues, swing path & closed club face?
I use to have a nice drawl to center but when I put the left hand grip in fingers instead of palm I miss it to the left even though it feels better and I don't know how to correct this. I'm a right hand Golfer
Some of this video Hank is describing a hook as a pull. A Pull should be when it starts left but goes straight. A Pull Hook is when it starts left AND goes more left. It's even easier than he says. If it's hooking, that's a club head angle issue. If it's just starting left and going straight, it's a path problem. If it does both, you're over the top AND turning the face. Same for a Push and Push Slice. Push will start right but go straight on that path Push Slice will start right AND curve right.
THANK YOU FOR THIS. I was listening to him and was having a problem discerning my problem. I pull a lot, but sometimes slice and draw my driver so I was confused. Im a new golfer so Ive got much to learn.
I THINK this is my problem as well, I switched to a really strong grip which initially corrected my slice but now I’m pulling shots. Now if I neutralize my grip more it doesn’t feel comfortable and still slicing, so hard to find that happy medium.
I found the truth of this at the range this week. I assumed I was coming over the top but when I put a head cover in line with an over the top path I never hit it. Then on closer examination I face was closed at impact.
I was at the range today and all my longest shots were pulled to tge left. Like i hit my 8 iron 178 haha... if that goes straight thats a game changer.
Finally, someone who can explain the issue without a bunch of craziness and repeating themselves over and over to make a ten minute video into a twenty minute video. THANK YOU
🤯 Hank is a genius! He explained exactly why I'm pulling to the left!
Makes more sense than most of the videos I’ve watched. Plane simple language, thanks.
Exact lesson I was searching for. Someone recently advised me, one can never have enough strong grip, and since then I've been pulling my iron shots. I realize after this video, my problem was due club face being too closed due to overly strong grip. Thank you.
I am praying that's what is wrong with me too. Helped with the slice initially, but now its overkill.
Neutral grip is gold
An overly strong grip is nothing but a temporary bandaid. Get a lesson from a good coach and work on the proper fundamentals and you will have a lifetime of golf enjoyment.

I also tend to do this when I swing hard. Especially with short irons wedges
This clicked for me - thank you
Thank you. I've been moving the ball around. Trying many things. I'm definitely a "puller" of the ball. Damn they feel good, fly great, but left of everything good.

Legend of Teaching. Breaking it down simple. I will start filming myself swing to learn what to approach. Thank you.
Great tip. Thanks Hank. Sliced driver and pulled irons have been torturing me. Used the tip today and saw significant improvement
Thanks again 6:58
Simple, and too the point and corrected the problem giving me the power fade I was seeking
I am not sure how you don't have 1m subs. Thank you for this video (5 years after you made it)
Holy Crap. That was explained so clearly for me. Thank you.
Best video I’ve seen on this issue.

This is the Best Lesson you will ever get for the ball going Left.
THIS VIDEO IS AWESOME!!! Thank you Hank Haney!!!! I have been searching for this information stated in this way for a long time!
There's a reason Hank Haney is considered one of the best teacher's in golf, and this is a perfect example of why that is. I'm a "type 2 puller" (closed face) of the ball, and this has done wonders for me.
I needed this one. I always have 4-8 strokes a round because of a pull.
Very informative and fantastic video, really appreciate the lesson. Thanks
For years I've turned my left foot out to help with my follow through. I can't wait to get to the range to try this simple change to see the effect.
Thank you.
Actually he suggested moving it forward if you pull by shutting the face. But it worked, so all good.
Thanks for the video - I think I am club path pull - will work on this and see if it helps. Thanks for posting tips to help.
Good stuff. The 2 corrections are spot on what I would use to properly hit a draw (first one) and cut (2nd one). I've been hitting all very tight cut shots and mid to short irons have been great. Good tips will try this out tomorrow. Been struggling with pulls. Both woods & irons.
That is great advice moving that left front foot Moore Street I have a tendency to put my foot slightly open which allows my hips to open great point thank you
Wow, this is me. I knew i shoud put the ball further back. I had shanks a lot. Always short on approach. Good stuff.
Great lesson. I have both of these problems depending on my fatigue and flexibility (I'm not as young as I used to be). matsfreedom has
Just another lesson that the greatest game provides.
@matsfreedom with fatigue, eat a snack during the round. Personally I have GU energy gels
Matt. I suggest you just swing one way, from the inside.. This game is hard enough withot having to mast two swings!!!

Great video, always thought I was coming over top... now I believe it’s closed club face.
Thx
Great video Hank, this will help all my pulled shots, thank you very much.
I definitely have the clubface pull. Been getting low left shots with irons and also hitting behind the ball. Great explanation. Thanks.
This was very well presented. Thank you.
Hank, you absolutely nailed my problem, which was closed clubface. Great tips: ball forward, move left arm faster, keep clubface square. Thank you!
Great lesson. No dithering. Thanks.
The best explanation on youtube. Nowadays, you can cheat and use trackman and it will tell you exactly what your 1)path and 2) clubface are doing at impact. Great video.
Just found this after 6 years. Gonna try it next time I can get to the range
Best pull video I’ve watched.
Great video, I took a lot of these tips and it helped. Recorded my swing and it helps when you see it. However my miss is still to the left. Most times draw center but the miss is a duck hook. I put some lead tape on the toe of the club and now the misses aren't as bad. Really worked.
This was incredibly helpful.
Really helpful, I am working on a path improvement, I can reverse engineer from this to save me having to go on a track man!

Great video! It’s like looking in a mirror! Tried what you said and started hitting much better shots! Thank you!

My poor 5 iron nearly got snapped today because of this 😂. Thanks for the tips! 👍

Man I could kiss this guy right now. Everyone has been blaming my grip. PGA pros as well and he told me the answer in 7 min.
Don't let us stop you.

really good instruction on this point
Great stuff sir.
This is such a great post!
Great lesson. Thanks.
Terrific video!
This is exactly what I'm doing. I think my grip is too strong! Thanks for this video
This is a very good lesson for my son, his miss is to the left and I am not sure how to fix it. Now I know...
Great video, thanks
Great lesson thank you.

If I had seen this 2 weeks ago, this would save me the money for one lesson. Great content. But nevertheless I now know and work on it.
Wow that's me! Take it inside, shallow approach with a typical draw that sometimes turns into a pull hook.
Surely for a straight pull it's path and club face by the same amount? If your path is 8° left but your face is at target you'll start left and fade it back, no?

this video is GOLD
Thanks Hank. This is one of my problem.
Very helpful. Thx Hank.
If it’s both problems at the same time you get a shank which is awesome to try to fix.
thank you hank you fixed my swing
club face pull correction starts about 6:00. The rest is him repeating the same thing over about 20 times.
What if you do both??? Path and club face?
2 videos. 2 days. 2 epiphanies. Thank you!

Wow... this video is one of the best on this subject.
Mine is a club face pull for sure. I dont slice my driver
Another reason is the strong grip. Your wrist has more flexibility to flip.
wonderful advice.
Is this the same for 3 wood or hybrid? I'm pulling all my clubs except driver.
My problems have been too strong a grip. I neutralized it a bit and now hitting more consistently.
I THINK this is my problem as well, I switched to a really strong grip which initially corrected my slice but now I’m pulling shots. Now if I neutralize my grip more it doesn’t feel comfortable and still slicing, so hard to find that happy medium.

I must thank you! Fixed my iron shots 100%! Driver is something else lol
I'm a clubface puller but when ever I try to rectify it by hitting out to the right I end up hitting the hozel!
Your grip plays a big part in the clubface pull as well.
Great lesson
so wait, if my problem irons shots are pull and fat....does that make it more likely face or path? My divots are straight.
I used to slice my driver to the right now I don’t it goes straight are we bit left now but my irons always go left
I was at the range today and all my longest shots were pulled to tge left. Like i hit my 8 iron 178 haha... if that goes straight thats a game changer.
I would have thought a shallow approach pull would generate a spin and some draw. The over the top would be a true straight pull more often than not.
I'm seeing improvement by gripping the club more with my left hand so the club doesn't rotate left on impact.
Wouldn’t the club face issue cause the ball to hook more not just pull? My shots tend to go start left and stay straight
This is GOLD
Excellent! Thanks!
