0:49 Can we just take a moment to appreciate the delicate 'artwork' on Snoot-bot. He looks like a fine china cup. That is certainly what rich people would do if they had robots, make them aesthetically pleasing. NOBODY has ever thought of this and included it in their robot designs. All robots in movies are industrial and brutally functional in design, with cheap looking plastic and 8-bit color schemes. This is truly brilliant.
A unicorn is a mythical creature, the guy is saying that its of mythic proportions. Some great object of power or mystery. Awesome short. I would gladly pay to see this fleshed out to feature length.
Fantastic. Film does more in the first 20 seconds silently than Hollywood Sci Fi films can do in 20 minutes of endless dialogue. World building was spectacular. Bravo.
This is great. Short films don't need story or whatever to be entertaining/good and this short film is proof. This short film did without a proper story what most short films cannot do even with a story. Congrats to the makers, they did good.
The explanation of this masterpiece: It's all about progress vs conservatism. The assassin doesn't like the future he is living in. He brings the "gift", which is the key to all these inventions he is living in, to the rich family. The family is the successor of the inventor, who got rich from all the inventions. Only they know, how to activate the box. They have the hair with the DNA of their great-great-x-grandfather. The box only works with this DNA. The box is like a time travel machine or the knowledge to future technology. Now with the activated box, he can change the things. Actually by killing the father, he changed things. The spaceship of the police changed to ladas. So some time traveling of the father did not happen. The assassin get killed by a bus - something that was not there before and he would be aware of because eh already changed the world by killing the father. Now the robot saves the box. The robot is a symbol for the progress, the conservatism is hunting him down in their old ladas. It only takes the progress 1 time to look back and dont pay attention and the conservatism brings him down. But also crushed, the future is slowed down, but it will never stop. After the robot noticed, that their is no chance to escape, he hides the "gift" from the conservatism. Last scene: The young boy, he can be the assasin or he can be the time-traveling great-great-x-father. No matter how you interpret this short movie, "The gift" is a masterpiece
Godwin AUT Is that the official explanation given by the makers of this film, or is that what you projected from your head as the film's story? Either way, that theory/story has many flaws.

It's up to you. You chose it if it make sense or not. Everyone can come up with something of their own when they use their imagination. The seed is there, but you can make it grow by adding water and care. Consider this video as the seed, the kickstart of your imagination. Sometimes we have to use our brains to give something a meaning, rather than get it served. That's how your creativity develops too.
Amazing, professional science fiction work which so rarely can be seen in cinemas nowadays (good story, clean visuals) ... 9.5/10 (so you can still get better by making a full movie).
+Jason Railson Ha-ha This also made me laugh. Even now in Moscow police cars are much better. I think it was kinda joke in movie (along with old slyle clothes fashion)
🔵 The CG work and cinematography was TOP-NOTCH!! , truly FANTASTIC in EVERY detail!...... .....However, questions abound, such as: 1.) What is the Box? 2.) What is this about a unicorn? 3.) Who was the man who was assassinated and why? 4.) What was the metallic object the Assassin dropped in the street at 2:23 ? 5.) At the bridge scene with part of his face ripped off, why did the servant robot appear to have human teeth? 6.) If the box was so valuable that it was worth killing over, why was it disposed of and who was not supposed to get their hands on it?....... And SO many more questions, and yet,.... Apparently not even a HINT of an answer.....smh. Quite frustrating really,... But the visuals, Ahhhhhhh,.... The visuals TRULY raised the bar!!
It wasn't an actual unicorn. The phrase "it's a unicorn" is an idiom representing the rarity or uniqueness of a situation or object. Whatever was in the box must have belonged to one person however, since it required a DNA sample to open.
Such a magical bond of tires to snowy roads looks incredibly even for the future. The robot also looks like made in Russia - damaged badly after a small accident. There is a flaw in this movie - at 3:29 no ladas on the road, 1 second later they appear out of nowhere, and boom! ;). Besides that movie well done!
It's too bad that after all the time, effort and money that was put into the CGI, there apparently wasn't any left over to write a coherent script. A good story actually makes sense, it's not just a collection of random events thrown together.

I just want to point out that this is being presented by a VFX company. It's like a product add, it needs to be flashy and show off their capabilities. It wasn't created for the story.
While it seems clear that those two cars were empty, you have a valid point as to where those cops went. Regardless, they caught the robot not half a minute later. To me it seemed clear the bot wasnt helping that man, it was stealing the box for its own agenda.
*That robot is like C3POs cooler brother.* LoL Short was pretty good. While the motivation for the human could possibly just have been confirmation for whatever. Which he got the second before he killed. I felt the robot needed a extra scene or two to give him a logical motive to protect the box like he did. Like a scene were the old man and the guest (killer) said a few words with the robot watching and the old man saying how special this box was. Before they went upstairs and then later maybe have the "combine" like soldier tell the robot to drop the box or something, leading to the chase scene.
well to be fair the machine probably has worked with the old man for longer than a day, thus we can assume it knows a thing or three about what's going on.
it looks like two/three factions wanted this 'unicorn'.
