    Came across your video and really enjoyed the laid back presentation. I've been EDC'ing a gold class proper with burgundy micarta scales and damasteel sheeps foot blade now for about 1 1/2 years now. It is everything I could ask for in a nice pocket knife..

    Instead of refining this knife, Benchmade has discontinued the Proper. A few can still be bought third party, but when those are gone, that’s it.
    Nice review!

      Just found out that it's discontinued, lost my proper a couple of weeks back. But luckily found it deep in the sofa the other day 😂. I was deep in mourning over its loss.

    I've carried a slip joint most of my life, mainly because in the south in the US they are as common as a sunrise. I've recently made the switch to more modern knives, but I still love a good slip joint.

    Good review my friend! I'm only 28yrs old, but the older I get the more I'm drawn to slip joints. I've thought about buying slip joints like Case, but this is the first slip joint I actually fell in love with. I think it looks great. Thanks again for the review!

    • @TobisTings
      @TobisTings  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think its a great slipjoint, even though a lot of people seem to hate it. If I'd lose it today I would buy it again in a heart beat.

      @@TobisTings People just nit pick at small things today and expect everything to be perfect. I'm not gonna cry about the slip strength being weak like a few people have pointed out simply because it's not the type of knife you pry with and stuff. As long as you use it right it's fine. Definitely gonna pick one up when my taxes come in.

    Very nice video. Well done! I've spent more on Benchmades than I care to think about. I've been on the fence with the Proper, but you've brought up some good points about this knife and I think one will be in my pocket soon.

      Awesome choice, and thanks! I got the Bugout 535 GRY-1. Love the knife, but its not legal to carry where I live. I hope benchmade will expand their line of slipjoint knives in the future. The 319 certainly was a great first try!

I sub'd immediately and look forward to learning many other things while watching them. I'm looking forward to being a regular viewer of your channel. I'm recording content to publish on my own channel in the coming months and will likely demonstrate products, restorations and modifications you'll enjoy as well. Wishing you the best!

    This was an awesome review! I love the chill pace of the video, enjoyable background scenes and the overall aesthetic of your videos! I pulled the trigger and picked up a carbon scaled proper slip join and can't wait to receive it. This is thanks to your review. Do you have any info on where (or if) there are aftermarket replacement screws? I'd love to make this knife my own with updated color options.

    Not the best ergonomics and litlle soft steel hardness. But I like it a lot.
    I added liners to be a little thicker and I is filling better in the hand.
    Maby I will round the corners on the handle in the feature.

    • @TobisTings
      @TobisTings  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah ergos are always subjective and could be improved on this one. Sounds like an awesome project though. Personally I like the softness of the steel. Not too soft, easy to resharpen and not prone to chipping. But again, that's just personal preference ;)

    There is one more thing: these slip-joint non - locking and two-hand opening knives are legal to carry in many european countries (that is at least true for Germany according to WaffG § 42a )

    Actually, most of the other modern traditional in the same price range don‘t have those function or fit and finish issues that can be found with the Proper (318 and 319 alike). Therefore, for me it doesn’t offer enough to justify its price. But that‘s just my personal opinion.

  • @dlysachev

    Nice watch by the way! Sinn as a wach brand has been a hidden gem for a long time. How accurate do they run? Have you considered the Sinn 556?

    I had the clip point version on micarta , the are very beutiful but overpriced in my opinion.
    Have you look at many wap? Les than half of the price of the proper , S90V steel with excellent heat treatment.

    Great Video, I have owned a proper for about the same amount of time and love it. Having said that I just picked up a LionSteel Thrill, and for the same price it is much better, has an integral frame, better steel, and a much stronger spring.

      M390 at 56hrc is not better than s30v at 60hrc

  • @samfletcher93
    @samfletcher93 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This or the Lionsteel roundhead?

    • @TobisTings
      @TobisTings  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a tough one! The Lionsteel is (imo) the better looking and the better performing knife overall. However, I much prefer Benchmades S30V steel over Lionsteels M390. The benchmade is fairly easy to resharpen and in my experience holds an edge better. The edge retention on the M390 is a pain to sharpen. So unless you are really good at sharpening your knives and have a sophisticated sharpening system I'd probably recommend the Proper. Also the Proper can be fully disassembled for cleaning and maintenance, so it might just be the better choice in the long run.
      ... or you could just get both 😅🤷🏼‍♂️
