I think the purpose of Anne's sacrifice is more for the OP status of the stones. If just ANYONE can harness moon-destroying power blasts, that's a little dangerous. So the user has to be willing to give up everything to use it. They have to have a really good reason. Oh, and when Anne comes back from being dead, the shoe is on her OTHER foot.

Season 1 sasha was the big bad and the highlight of the season, even in the opening sasha was always there. Then season 2 marcy was the main focus and she was the new highlight in the opening. Finally season 3 goes full circle with Anne and her og family being the focus and anne was the highlight in the opening. I liked how thematically each girl sacrificed themselves in order to redeem themselves but both sasha and marcy didn't change after the fake out, however anne had changed throughout the story and her sacrifice was real
Self-sacrifice when you don't actually value yourself is ultimately an empty gesture, while loving yourself and choosing to put yourself in harm's way to protect others is deeply significant. Is that anything? Also working through my own thoughts on the finale.
Is that a general statement? In the context of Anne, she does value herself, she just values others & the greater good more. That’s quite the opposite of empty.

I've got an intrusive thought to add to the list I'm sorry but I'm burdened with it so I must have burden you with it. The 10-year later epilogue is on Anne's birthday but the TV also says that it's the anniversary of the invasion which didn't take place on Anne's birthday. I know it's probably just a writing oversight but of course my masochist brain can't help but think that maybe Anne 2.0 changed her birthday from the original Anne's birthday to the day the three stone deity created her. Have fun with that
I personally think they just rounded off to an even 10. As far as I'm aware Anne's entire adventure in Amphibia (First to Final Episode) took less than a year so it probably should say something like 9 years and 3 months later but that doesn't roll off the tongue as well.

The little detail that messed with my head the most is that, as stated in another comment, Anne's shoe is on the other foot after she dies, so the copy isn't an exact perfect copy which kinda messes with me, really hope we get clarification on that but also hey I guess the one shoe was important.
There’s no more clarification to have. Anne is dead. This is Anne 2, a perfect copy of Anne’s memory. They successfully managed to have their cake and eat it without nullifying Anne’s sacrifice too much.
Amphibia finale reaction and breakdown, why yes, I DID breakdown multiple times during the finale. Each part just hit me like a ton of bricks, ngl. Got my eyes all puffy too.
_About the sacrifice, I think it's all about change. It's literally letting your old self die. In my case, when I think about change I'm TERRIFYING of the unknown. Who I'm going to be if not who I always been? Before Amphibia, I wanted to stay the same as always, but after this finale and a lot of processing, I understood something. The old Anne die, so, is she enough now? Is this the moment when she doesn't have to change anymore? No, no at all. As she said it herself, she still imperfect. Even now, she is going to keep changing. In order to defeat the core ( the anxiety of not wanting things to change ), she has to sacrifice the person that she was (herself) in order to let the person she is now be born (save Amphibia, the place where this new person was born). She LITERALLY let the old Anne die, but that doesn't really change who she is NOW._ _The only moment when she is going to stop changing is literally when she stops living. When she dies. Then, and only then, she can be "god" or whatever, but for now, she is going to live. Nor happily or stressfully, she is just going to live. I'm just going to live._
I also keep thinking about Anne's death. I personally am absolutely convinced, that what we are to take away from it is, that the Anne we know is dead, replaced by a sort of clone (this is beautifully indicated visually btw, in that "original" Anne always wears her one shoe on the left foot, but after she dies, "clone" Anne has the shoe on the right foot - indicading that she's not in fact the same Anne) While it might seem sad, it's really not. Anne died happy and full of purpose, and everyone else don't have to experience the loss of her. The one I feel kinda bad for is the clone. She has to live her life knowing on some level, that all her memories of the first 13 years of her life aren't really hers and also knowing the age at which she will die - The Guardian was kind of a jerk for telling her. They could have kept her blissfully unaware and still made the same deal with her. A pretty interesting finale overall.
I love that the guardian is just a neutral neutral asshole. They basically allowed mass genocide by the users of the stones for thousands of years just so they could find a worthy successor.
I started this show a few months ago and i dropped it after a few episodes, dont make my mistake, it doesn't seem like much at first but this show was a JOURNEY, im so happy i gave it a second shot and i witnessed this amazing story with y'all. I hope i can make a story someday that moves people the way this show moved me, love yourselves and take care of yourselves ... hoppy trails
@@unvoicedapollo3318 tonally speaking i feel like it was pretty consistent throughout (true colours being the outlier in terms of hogwild-ness) including the first episodes, but the gratification of seeing anne & co grow throughout the seasons is truly where the show shines imo and maybe thats why it may seem a bit unremarkable at first or like its not going anywhere (thats setup i guess)

Now that amphibia is over and owl house almost is, I still think you would love Arcane; it has beautiful animation, amazing world building, and a heart wrenching interconnected story that deals a lot with relationships and mental health which seem to be your bread and butter. I have a lot of issues with the finale but the calamity trio power scene had me in tears. I mentioned it on another reaction but the fact the CORE of all things could understand what the trio had was toxic is really a nail in the coffin. They are the LEAST human thing in the entire show. Theyre intentionally cruel and take joy out of puppeting Marcys body. But they knew it was bad. It hits harder than it should. That and Sashas "I am not that person anymore" made me burst into tears
This finale made me sooo emotional 😭😭😭. I truly loved it. Btw Bill, you should really watch Craig of the Creek!!! It’s created by the head writers from Steven Universe if that tells u anything about the creativeness and the heartwarming aspects of the show. And I feel like it could be a soft, more easy going positive show to watch after the STRESS of the ending of amphibia and the stress of TOH at the moment lol
So I love this channel, and while I am prone to being emotional I am not typically as much as our favorite content creator here. That said I just finished Amphibia and am a TOTAL MESS and as soon as I realized I get to finish watching Bill's reaction my first thought was, "Oh hey, I get to watch Bill be ANNIHILATED WITH FEELS." My immediate next thought was "guess I have someone to cry with now."
I always thought the ending would have Anne Marcy and Sasha being able to travel back and forth as they please, but now seeing the finale I think this is much more in tune with the themes of the show. It’s much more realistic. But then when Anne gave her phone to Sprig I was really hoping they would be able to text each other at least. Part of me thinks that could’ve been a happy medium, and really cute, but I also know that would defeat the purpose of the ending. Anyway the ending provides such a great life lesson that just because things change doesn’t mean you can’t look back at the way things used to be in a positive light. Like things change and end and that’s okay. What an amazing finale and series that I will truly miss!
tbh I thought Andrias was blind at the end because of the grey eyes but, I loved the finale and seeing how everything ends so cohesively made me love it more. Just very enjoyable and dog I teared up so bad unu

I’m so happy both have be receiving the attention they deserve and it’s sad to see Amphibia go, but I was glad I was able to be part of the journey. I love that they dont try to make us like Andrias in his atonement. Just try to make us understand and accept what happened, and be ok with him surviving and trying.
i absolutely loved the finally i’m also happy they left the shipping open for the human characters but didn’t shut any doors also i love everything about the time skip and all the time skip designs also super glad the arm thing actually happened even if it wasn’t ann and i’d give the show an 8.5 out of ten and the end a 9.5 also gandalf andreas is an absolute treat
I love how all the girls grew up to be what they wanted to be. The principal says how Sasha will probably grow up to boss people around and how Marcy will like, solve world hunger or something. But they don't. Sasha chooses to stop trying to be in control of everything and instead help kids to resolve their issues, and Marcy has potential to be a scientist or something but she instead decided to become an artist. And Anne, the fact she used to do so bad at school but ultimately ended up going into a career related to biology and stuff because it made her feel closer to her friends and family in Amphibia. They chose their own path instead of following the one already laid out for them by their own abilities. It goes to show how skills can be learned and just because you're not good at something doesn't mean you will never be good at it. On a more unrelated note, apparently Marcy is confirmed as autistic, which is amazing to me as an autistic person. Makes the scene where Sasha and Anne fall asleep during the sleepover more powerful, she was so excited to share one of her hyperfixations with her friends but they just didn't get it, and also it makes so much sense how she went on to become an artist. She loves fantasy so much she picked a career that would allow her to stay in her happy little fantasy world while still remaining in the real world, and it even makes sense how she sent then to Amphibia on purpose! We don't handle change well, and as a fantasy fanatic and autistic myself, I have to say I too would love to go to another fantasy world if given the chance and live out all my fantasies.

I wasn't personally too fond of the use of the "unfounds your found family, everyone goes home, you never see them again" trope on my first watch, but your breakdown of the themes in this talk does help me see the plot choice in a different light. In the end, even if this trope isn't my favorite, I think it does fit the spirit of the story the Amphibia team wanted to tell here... a story about connection, about change, about how you may eventually drift away from people you love, but that this doesn't negate the very personal impact they had on your life and in the person you became.
Anne's new job should help her get to know about taking care of creatures in various enclosed worlds. Maybe she will be a bit more prepared to oversee planets full of life. I really like that her death has actual consequences, like her copy being slightly different than the version of her that died. The shoe is on the other foot, which is a clever play on the phrase. Otherwise, this death is similar to Star Trek style transporters, with the body being destroyed and a copy from the moments before that destruction is assembled on the other end. She has the memory of the encounter with the three stone deities. At best she has every memory before losing consciousness. At worst, a copy from just before absorbing the stones. She may be somewhere between those two extremes. Who knows.
I'll be honest i haven't watched a chunk of the other seasons and just started watching religiously a few episodes in season 3. And yet that finale still felt so climactic for me. I could only imagine what i was like for the fans that stuck since the start. Can't wait for what TOH has for me

Amphibia has been such a fantastic show! Especially the last two episodes - such a wild rollercoaster of emotions, but I thought it wrapped up things spectacularly. Of course there were small things here and there that can be nitpicked, but those barely detracted from the experience for me personally. First, thank you Bill for sharing your reactions with us! Amphibia started out fun and light but gradually became a very emotional experience. I have enjoyed listening to your thoughts and insight. When I began to watch the show I quickly realized that Amphibia was not just a colourful background for the characters to act out their wacky antics. Matt and his team gave us a living, breathing world that was a big part of the story! They went to great efforts to build scenes and sometimes entire stories to show us the beauty and danger of this world. On their road trip we were all introduced to other cultures and people, from the tiny town of terrifying frogs, all the way to the metropolis of Newtopia. I can honestly say that the payoff was certainly worth it. I think we all became really attached to this place and it was hard to say goodbye. I will admit that I was trying to be strong in those last few scenes, but that final moment between Anne and Sprig broke me. Such a wonderful story from start to finish!!!

This is me encouraging your big Amphibia video because yes pls. Also, a note, because Bessy & Joe Sparrow had at least three snirbs[as Matt dubbed them]. They're all adorable & I love them. UwU I...am very glad Matt also softened the blow of the finale on twitter before I saw this, or I'd have not been able to appreciate your video nearly as much, if only from sorrow for the ending. Your analysis of these shows is always brilliant to hear, even when I don't agree with them, it's great to get other perspectives. You may or may not have seen others mention Anne's shoe being on the opposite foot after Domino 3 creates the backup of her, but it is! I like to think she's been mirrored entirely & thoroughly. Because it's a fascinating thing to think about for me. As for what to call what Domino 3 did, I'd liken it to a literal file copy. Mirroring aside, Anne after the fight is EXACTLY the same, down to the smallest scar & strand of hair, as Anne before the fight, but is also not that one. Like a copy of a music file is EXACTLY the same as the source file, but not the source file. Not exactly cloning, since that has way more room for error, at least as far as humans know it. just seeing how much you thoroughly enjoyed amphibia especially the third season I would recommend you give The Adventure Zone: Balance a listen whether on your own time or for a video. its a D&D podcast and when I watched amphibia I got similar vibes and just loved it !!!
From a story standpoint, I still have some gripes with this ending. But the emotional and comedy bits were at an all-time high and, in the end, that's what I really enjoyed about Amphibia. I'll treasure my memories of this show forever.

Great reaction! I loved the finale and it hit so hard! I almost cry every time I see it! I think that the only thing that slightly disappointed me was Annes death fake-out, but at the same time I am relived that they didn't commit to it! I think that the only thing that bothers me is that they never addressed the portal that they were able to open without the box, feels kind of like a plot-hole!
@@gettingbetterfromhere No, they needed the Blue power to open it wide enough to be able to walk through, but they were still able to open a small portal (that the mantis was able to stick its claw out off!). With that small portal they could have done quite a bit: establish an internet connection, trade rare resources and much more!

_About the sacrifice, I think it's all about change. It's literally letting your old self die. In my case, when I think about change I'm TERRIFYING of the unknown. Who I'm going to be if not who I always been? Before Amphibia, I wanted to stay the same as always, but after this finale and a lot of processing, I understood something. The old Anne die, so, is she enough now? Is this the moment when she doesn't have to change anymore? No, no at all. As she said it herself, she still imperfect. Even now, she is going to keep changing. In order to defeat the core ( the anxiety of not wanting things to change ), she has to sacrifice the person that she was (herself) in order to let the person she is now be born (save Amphibia, the place where this new person was born). She LITERALLY let the old Anne die, but that doesn't really change who she is NOW._
_The only moment when she is going to stop changing is literally when she stops living. When she dies. Then, and only then, she can be "god" or whatever, but for now, she is going to live. Nor happily or stressfully, she is just going to live. I'm just going to live._
I also keep thinking about Anne's death. I personally am absolutely convinced, that what we are to take away from it is, that the Anne we know is dead, replaced by a sort of clone (this is beautifully indicated visually btw, in that "original" Anne always wears her one shoe on the left foot, but after she dies, "clone" Anne has the shoe on the right foot - indicading that she's not in fact the same Anne)
While it might seem sad, it's really not. Anne died happy and full of purpose, and everyone else don't have to experience the loss of her. The one I feel kinda bad for is the clone. She has to live her life knowing on some level, that all her memories of the first 13 years of her life aren't really hers and also knowing the age at which she will die - The Guardian was kind of a jerk for telling her. They could have kept her blissfully unaware and still made the same deal with her.
A pretty interesting finale overall.
I love that the guardian is just a neutral neutral asshole. They basically allowed mass genocide by the users of the stones for thousands of years just so they could find a worthy successor.
Just to be clear, the skip-man belonged to Dr. Frakes (Dr. that Terri worked for). You can see how it got sucked through to Amphibia in S3E8b.

I started this show a few months ago and i dropped it after a few episodes, dont make my mistake, it doesn't seem like much at first but this show was a JOURNEY, im so happy i gave it a second shot and i witnessed this amazing story with y'all. I hope i can make a story someday that moves people the way this show moved me, love yourselves and take care of yourselves ... hoppy trails
Yeah it definitely starts out as what seems like a nothing show. But I see it as a clone wars/su thing where it grows up as it audience grows up
@@unvoicedapollo3318 tonally speaking i feel like it was pretty consistent throughout (true colours being the outlier in terms of hogwild-ness) including the first episodes, but the gratification of seeing anne & co grow throughout the seasons is truly where the show shines imo and maybe thats why it may seem a bit unremarkable at first or like its not going anywhere (thats setup i guess)
i have mixed feelings about the ending but mostly I’m just glad everyone got to a point where they were happy however long it took to get there

Now that amphibia is over and owl house almost is, I still think you would love Arcane; it has beautiful animation, amazing world building, and a heart wrenching interconnected story that deals a lot with relationships and mental health which seem to be your bread and butter. I have a lot of issues with the finale but the calamity trio power scene had me in tears. I mentioned it on another reaction but the fact the CORE of all things could understand what the trio had was toxic is really a nail in the coffin. They are the LEAST human thing in the entire show. Theyre intentionally cruel and take joy out of puppeting Marcys body. But they knew it was bad. It hits harder than it should. That and Sashas "I am not that person anymore" made me burst into tears

Btw Bill, you should really watch Craig of the Creek!!! It’s created by the head writers from Steven Universe if that tells u anything about the creativeness and the heartwarming aspects of the show. And I feel like it could be a soft, more easy going positive show to watch after the STRESS of the ending of amphibia and the stress of TOH at the moment lol
So I love this channel, and while I am prone to being emotional I am not typically as much as our favorite content creator here. That said I just finished Amphibia and am a TOTAL MESS and as soon as I realized I get to finish watching Bill's reaction my first thought was, "Oh hey, I get to watch Bill be ANNIHILATED WITH FEELS." My immediate next thought was "guess I have someone to cry with now."
I always thought the ending would have Anne Marcy and Sasha being able to travel back and forth as they please, but now seeing the finale I think this is much more in tune with the themes of the show. It’s much more realistic. But then when Anne gave her phone to Sprig I was really hoping they would be able to text each other at least. Part of me thinks that could’ve been a happy medium, and really cute, but I also know that would defeat the purpose of the ending. Anyway the ending provides such a great life lesson that just because things change doesn’t mean you can’t look back at the way things used to be in a positive light. Like things change and end and that’s okay. What an amazing finale and series that I will truly miss!
tbh I thought Andrias was blind at the end because of the grey eyes but, I loved the finale and seeing how everything ends so cohesively made me love it more. Just very enjoyable and dog I teared up so bad unu

i absolutely loved the finally i’m also happy they left the shipping open for the human characters but didn’t shut any doors also i love everything about the time skip and all the time skip designs also super glad the arm thing actually happened even if it wasn’t ann and i’d give the show an 8.5 out of ten and the end a 9.5 also gandalf andreas is an absolute treat
I love how all the girls grew up to be what they wanted to be. The principal says how Sasha will probably grow up to boss people around and how Marcy will like, solve world hunger or something. But they don't. Sasha chooses to stop trying to be in control of everything and instead help kids to resolve their issues, and Marcy has potential to be a scientist or something but she instead decided to become an artist. And Anne, the fact she used to do so bad at school but ultimately ended up going into a career related to biology and stuff because it made her feel closer to her friends and family in Amphibia. They chose their own path instead of following the one already laid out for them by their own abilities. It goes to show how skills can be learned and just because you're not good at something doesn't mean you will never be good at it.
On a more unrelated note, apparently Marcy is confirmed as autistic, which is amazing to me as an autistic person. Makes the scene where Sasha and Anne fall asleep during the sleepover more powerful, she was so excited to share one of her hyperfixations with her friends but they just didn't get it, and also it makes so much sense how she went on to become an artist. She loves fantasy so much she picked a career that would allow her to stay in her happy little fantasy world while still remaining in the real world, and it even makes sense how she sent then to Amphibia on purpose! We don't handle change well, and as a fantasy fanatic and autistic myself, I have to say I too would love to go to another fantasy world if given the chance and live out all my fantasies.

I just finished watching the finale, and I have you to thank for that. I had seen eps from s1 whenever my niece and nephew were over, and I enjoyed it. And it was a show that I thought 'huh I should watch more of that sometime'. And just put it on my ever growing list, but then you started doing videos on the show, and I thought 'oh shit! I REALLY gotta watch it now!' I had taken a break between s1 and s2, so over the last week or so I've been making my way through s2-3 and watching your videos as I went along. So I just wanted to say thank you. Thank you for making these videos, even if you don't get the most engagement out of them, know that the people who do watch and enjoy them REALLY like and enjoy them. I appreciate the hell out of you for doing these. As long as it's what you want to do, and it brings you some amount of joy then keep doing it. It was fun watching you react to shows I'd already seen (Steven Universe and Adventure Time), but I really enjoyed watching something new along with you. Even though you finished a fair bit before I did, it was fun going into these having really just recently finished watching and seeing/hearing your reactions and your thoughts/feelings on things. I kinda like that the first two are fake-outs but Anne like actually dies in the last one. Like she came back (well like a copy of her) but she really died. It's so cool I love it, it was really a final sacrifice

I wasn't personally too fond of the use of the "unfounds your found family, everyone goes home, you never see them again" trope on my first watch, but your breakdown of the themes in this talk does help me see the plot choice in a different light. In the end, even if this trope isn't my favorite, I think it does fit the spirit of the story the Amphibia team wanted to tell here... a story about connection, about change, about how you may eventually drift away from people you love, but that this doesn't negate the very personal impact they had on your life and in the person you became.

Anne's new job should help her get to know about taking care of creatures in various enclosed worlds. Maybe she will be a bit more prepared to oversee planets full of life.
I really like that her death has actual consequences, like her copy being slightly different than the version of her that died. The shoe is on the other foot, which is a clever play on the phrase. Otherwise, this death is similar to Star Trek style transporters, with the body being destroyed and a copy from the moments before that destruction is assembled on the other end. She has the memory of the encounter with the three stone deities. At best she has every memory before losing consciousness. At worst, a copy from just before absorbing the stones. She may be somewhere between those two extremes. Who knows.
This series has been such a great ride.
I'll be honest i haven't watched a chunk of the other seasons and just started watching religiously a few episodes in season 3. And yet that finale still felt so climactic for me. I could only imagine what i was like for the fans that stuck since the start. Can't wait for what TOH has for me

Amphibia has been such a fantastic show! Especially the last two episodes - such a wild rollercoaster of emotions, but I thought it wrapped up things spectacularly. Of course there were small things here and there that can be nitpicked, but those barely detracted from the experience for me personally.

First, thank you Bill for sharing your reactions with us! Amphibia started out fun and light but gradually became a very emotional experience. I have enjoyed listening to your thoughts and insight.
When I began to watch the show I quickly realized that Amphibia was not just a colourful background for the characters to act out their wacky antics. Matt and his team gave us a living, breathing world that was a big part of the story! They went to great efforts to build scenes and sometimes entire stories to show us the beauty and danger of this world. On their road trip we were all introduced to other cultures and people, from the tiny town of terrifying frogs, all the way to the metropolis of Newtopia. I can honestly say that the payoff was certainly worth it. I think we all became really attached to this place and it was hard to say goodbye.
I will admit that I was trying to be strong in those last few scenes, but that final moment between Anne and Sprig broke me. Such a wonderful story from start to finish!!!

I...am very glad Matt also softened the blow of the finale on twitter before I saw this, or I'd have not been able to appreciate your video nearly as much, if only from sorrow for the ending. Your analysis of these shows is always brilliant to hear, even when I don't agree with them, it's great to get other perspectives. You may or may not have seen others mention Anne's shoe being on the opposite foot after Domino 3 creates the backup of her, but it is! I like to think she's been mirrored entirely & thoroughly. Because it's a fascinating thing to think about for me.
As for what to call what Domino 3 did, I'd liken it to a literal file copy. Mirroring aside, Anne after the fight is EXACTLY the same, down to the smallest scar & strand of hair, as Anne before the fight, but is also not that one. Like a copy of a music file is EXACTLY the same as the source file, but not the source file. Not exactly cloning, since that has way more room for error, at least as far as humans know it. But still full of that existential dread. 8D

From a story standpoint, I still have some gripes with this ending. But the emotional and comedy bits were at an all-time high and, in the end, that's what I really enjoyed about Amphibia. I'll treasure my memories of this show forever.

I think that the only thing that slightly disappointed me was Annes death fake-out, but at the same time I am relived that they didn't commit to it!
I think that the only thing that bothers me is that they never addressed the portal that they were able to open without the box, feels kind of like a plot-hole!
Didn’t that portal only work enough to let them travel because the power of the blue stone was in Anne to power it?
@@gettingbetterfromhere No, they needed the Blue power to open it wide enough to be able to walk through, but they were still able to open a small portal (that the mantis was able to stick its claw out off!).
With that small portal they could have done quite a bit: establish an internet connection, trade rare resources and much more!
