- In this video I take a look at a LEGO Hobbit set based on the second movie while I continue looking at Middle Earth based sets. These two sets combined make Dol Guldur, one of the antagonist settings from the trilogy. I used to be harsh on this when I was younger but upon reflection, I actually really this thing for scratching that Castle itch so many of us have.

Man this brings me back. The very first gig I ever did for LEGO featured these sets. So I got access to them before they were even leaked. I got a big ol box from LEGO, opened it with glee, and found a bunch of bags with no instructions 🤣had to wait over a weak for them to send a pdf.
Oh my Gosh, I love your Middle Earth videos! They were one of the things that got me into this theme all these years ago :)
I can't imagine the struggle of waiting that whole time for the instructions when you actually have the parts in hand lol.
oh this skeleton still has the floppy arms!
Whoa, this hit me with a rush of nostalgia for 2013 and some of lego’s best themes
This time period is really special in LEGO's work honestly.
Witcher ost perfectly sits with this video! :D
Excellent soundtrack
As much as I can see the value and fun of the Helm's deep set, this set just doesn't do it for me. Add to that the fact that they are grossly overpriced in the aftermarket at this time and I see why the Hobbit sets are so much worse than the Lotr sets. I never liked the Hobbit movies to begin with, which probably relfects itself in the Lego sets based on it.
The redeeming factors here are definitely all the traps and playfeatures, with some of the minifigures being quite detailed too. I specifically like the hanging cage element, with the skeleton inside, that is probably the main detailing that stands out, as the rest of the wall feels bland. Thanks for showing us the set!
This might be the only time we actually got Sauron as a minifigure before 2024. Sort of.
At that time, we all thought we’d be getting a proper one in the next wave lol. But now 11 years later…
I also think that this is a really underrated set!The build is pretty decent and the minifigures are great!
Amazing Video👍
Keep it going😃
Thanks :)
So sad the orcs in these sets are not even acurrate. They are gundabad orcs where the orcs who were bred and guarded dol guldur were in fact, dol guldur orcs. Only the orcs tham came from Gundabad led by Bolg were Gundabad orcs.
And weird they were new for the line too but I guess it made it easy for LEGO to reuse them all throughout the other sets. Something we’ve become tragically used to now
@@RayLilySeries yeah exactly, like most in these sets they do not fit to the scenario.
I'm not hugely bothered with orc usage accuracy, but I do not like these figures. They barely work in the movies, with tons of money invested in the best practcal effects the world can buy. I think Lego could have gone for a more cartoony approach, make them cleaner and more fun. (like the orcs from Warhammer and 40K)
These designs are meant to look scary, but their faces are too cluttered and more silly than scary.
