    Appreciate your video. We have a serious groundhog problem with them undermining our concrete drive and the shed floor. We bought conibear traps and got 3 in the first 24 hours. Your help is much appreciated.

    I had a pest company come out because the critters were getting out of hand. That company charged a crazy amount. I am 70 and trying to live off my social security, which is under 900 a month. That company caught a raccoon and armadillo but they never caught the groundhogs which was the reason I called them in the first place. The groundhog had babies so now there are three living under my house and creating treacherous spots in my yard that have caused me to stumble. I can't afford the pest company again, so I ordered two cage traps from Amazon. I looked up on TH-cam how to set and bait them and now I am told that cage traps are not a good way to get rid of ground hogs. I used to enjoy nature but between the bugs, the critters and their tunnels, I barely get to enjoy going outside anymore. Oh well; such is life. . .

I use repellent spray, but i need him gone. Also he steals all the plastic bags i use to cover things; my firepit, box of logs, even the bag that holds my little gas can. I think i just need a cage trap with a wad of plastic bag in the rear, lol.

      You can buy conibears at most large rural hardware stores or from many sources online. In most suburbs, stores are afraid of negative reactions from non country folks. A 160 size is good for groundhogs. I like them because they are instant kill and the animal is less likely to suffer.

    If you use a reliable cage trap you can still catch without the worry about kids or pets. The best cage traps actually run at least as high a catch rate as footholds and conibears, probably better. I wouldn't tell people not to use a cage, just get the best, which is a wire trigger and powered door, Comstock Cages.

    • @buckaroooutdoors1794
      @buckaroooutdoors1794 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I wouldn't recommend anyone spend that much for a cage trap when a foot grip is like $10 and won't hurt a pet or kid if they get curious, worst case scenario a lesson is learned

    • @JamesComstockCages
      @JamesComstockCages 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@buckaroooutdoors1794 You totally missed the mark on that one buckaroo. Cages are preferable in ADC work especially in town. Yes, footholds do have the potential to hurt a pet, which is part of the reason for cage traps. When a pet is in a cage trap, no problem. When the public sees a pet in a foothold, not so good. Just common sense. Additionally our new cage traps are quicker and easier to set with few misses. Our best year was 142 caged woodchucks in positive den sets without the use of bait or lure. When trapping without lure the chances of catching non target animals is greatly reduced. Our trap and methods are endorsed by NWCOA. Over the past 60 years I've tried it all.

    • @buckaroooutdoors1794
      @buckaroooutdoors1794 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @JamesComstockCages dude your trying to sell your product I respect that but your trying to reinvent the wheel there's very few situations where a cage trap is preferable and part of that is my location I'm not in town I don't service any towns. For my purposes I've only used a cage trap once and that's because I didn't want to crawl under a porch with a skunk so I tied a cable to the trap to drag it away that's the only occasion where it was beneficial to use a cage trap

    • @JamesComstockCages
      @JamesComstockCages 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@buckaroooutdoors1794 First off sport, I am an advocate for whatever devices are superior, which is so many instances cages are. There is a huge multimillion dollar industry of which you seem to be unaware. I doubt you have much background from which to draw with cage usage. I have 40 years of conibears for beaver, footholds for predators and an overlapping of more than 30 years of cages. Before cages I trapped thousands of beaver with conibears and now thousands more with cages, which incidentally are superior in both versatility and function to conibears. Millions don't live in an environment that is suitable for conibears, period. Working in animal damage control, ADC, for years I wasn't satisfied with the equipment offered, so I made traps to use in my business, which are now used by thousands. I use what works best. Cost is irrelevant for those in the business as they recoup their investment on the first job. I'm headed out to set cages today for beaver after taking 2,006 beaver in our double double door, powered, swim through cages in 13 1/2 years, traps that will take otter, nutria, muskrats, turtles, gators, fish, bobcats, fox, coon and more. I use cages not only in urban areas, but everywhere. One trapper caught 2 beaver in our cage at once, a 56 and 61 pounder. Another trapper caught 5 otter at once, with 2 at a time common. Won't happen with conibears. Some have taken 3 and 4 woodchucks at once in our smaller traps. I know. I'm one of those guys. We are always available to help educate.
