    These videos are so fun. You constantly remind me of earlier days. Boy, it's been awhile since I've thought about Jonathan Livingston Seagull! You are wise to get rid of that Andy Williams record, good teeth and all! I lived in the Bay area in the early 1980s (San Lorenzo/Hayward) and my daughter lives in Pasadena now. I laughed aloud as you read the insert from the belly dancing album! Another great video, Steph, and I love the glasses!

      Your comment really made me happy! I’m so glad you’re enjoying the videos and that they bring back memories of the past. It’s awesome that you lived in the Bay Area-I bet you have some great stories from that time! Glad you liked the belly dancing album insert; it was too fun not to share! And thanks for the compliment on the glasses. I was getting to the point where I couldn’t read the small print on the records anymore!

    I really enjoy watching these videos, Stephanie. We all have little stories and memories on how we ended up what's in our collection. I have a few Nina Hagen's as well, but have never seen her live. Wow...Human Sexual Response! I have not heard them mentioned in decades. 😎🎶

      Thank you so much! It makes me really happy to know that some of you find entertainment in my videos and take the time to watch them. I love that we all have unique stories behind our collections, and I enjoy hearing others' stories as well! Have a great weekend.

    Hey Stephanie, I think I’d have purged and kept the same records. In our more enlightened times and in the spirit of equality, I need to find a copy of How To Belly Dance For Your Wife. What a treat!

    I got that Nina Hagen album from the dollar bin cause it had a paint tranfer scratch across it. I was able to remove it with baking soda and dish soap. Plays great.

    Glad to some 999 on here. They were a cool band. I need to do this to my collection. I have so many albums I never get around to listening to.

      I recommend it! It’s been a fun process, as it really forces you to rediscover things you forgot about. It’s also interesting revisiting albums I haven’t heard in 20 years and seeing them through a different lens as an older adult. Our tastes definitely change over time.

    Jonathan Livingston Seagull- read by Richard Harris!MacArthur’s Park Richard Harris…. The famous actor.
    I’m just starting to think about developing the concept of a plan to someday go through the collection to thin the herd. The struggle is real.

      Hi! Interesting-I didn’t know anything about that album, so thanks for filling me in. I find that purging records in small stacks makes it a lot less overwhelming.

    So Unbehagen was a big favorite of mine at that time, "African Reggae" was such a great song. I have multiple copies of the single. The album version is longer. I've always loved Laurie Anderson's stuff, a highly talented artist. U.K.'s 999 were great, and "Homicide" is great, all part of that mod scene. The Ian Dury album has many different wallpaper patterns, some people try to get all the different covers. Great album. I used to see Blondie all the time at CBGBs before they were famous. Obviously a great band. Maybe one day I'll be privileged to see you belly dance for me. Still think you are awesome. Great taste. Human Sexual Response were from Boston!

    Hi Stephanie ! Definitely wish I had seen Mott The Hoople & did see Ian Hunter solo. Mott members were in a meeting to break-up when their manager mentioned that big fan David Bowie had sent a song callled All The Young Dudes for them. They wisely decided to stay together & record an incredible song of the 70's. I have purchased & traded in The Hunter twice ..perhaps I'll give it a third try ! Take Care ✌️

      Hi David. I had an Ian Hunter cassette at some point, and I remember liking it. He has so many solo albums; it might be time to start checking out his catalog. Have a great Saturday!

    I don't have that Nina Hagen, but it's got to be a keeper. That Ian Dury album is fantastic. There are dozens of different cover variations.

    With record prices being so high at the moment record purging, for me, has become a long and drawn out process. I go through and partially listen to records I’m going to purge and put into a pile. I later come back to the pile to see if I still feel the same way, if I do then I put in a sell pile.

    • @djstephwest
      @djstephwest  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @davidcurry8440 I feel the same way. With prices so high, letting go of records has become a careful process for me too. I like your approach of revisiting the ‘maybe’ pile to make sure-it’s a great way to be certain before selling.

    (1) Thus Spoke Zarathustra and (2) Also sprach Zarathustra are a book by Friedrich Nietzsche (1) and a tonal poem by Strauss (2) that also happens to be the leading track on the "2001 A Space Odyssey" Soundtrack album. And as these things go... it is the pop music that trumps the moment. Likely it is the Zarathustra track that is selling the LP in its day. The soundtrack album came out on June 1968. The story is that Stanley Kubrick (director) did not have a sound track for the animation (shot on film in those days) so he just used Strauss as a filler. Then, one day, the filler became the final choice.

    Perhaps those belly dancing LP's were created and accepted by couples as a great way to put some spark and fun cosplay into their marriage. Why is it that modern women have to immediately denounce it as Misogynistic !? Seems everything that worked without harm from both members in a relationship and supported a healthy sex life for both husband and wife is now in our extremely overly politically correct leftist society deemed Bad. Maybe this is why men dislike and avoid modern feminist thinking women. Most happy my wife of 26 yrs, two daughters, one son and I have avoided these destructive traps, life is great when one stops looking for the ugly in everything that's good.

    • @djstephwest
      @djstephwest  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You’re absolutely right. I mistakenly used the wrong word; instead of saying it was misogynistic, I should have referred to it as a bit sexist. Still, I love the album and I love men. Thanks for tuning in.
